At the age of 18 he received critical attention from audiences and critics alike when he made his debut feature, My Pure Joy. One to push boundaries, James followed up with the bold and unapologetic Hate Crime which forced audiences along for a brutal home invasion, the first found footage feature ever to be made in the style of having no cuts. The entire film plays out painfully in real time. It was promptly banned in the UK for its fearless story telling, one of three films to be banned in the last 25 years and remains so to this day. Ahead of his time, he then started the To Jennifer series, the first feature film to be shot entirely on the iPhone 5. He produced the next three instalments. The prolific filmmaker refused to slow down completing seven more features including Pernicious, 13-13-13, and Blood Lake, starring Shannen Doherty and Christopher Lloyd, which made James the youngest director to ever direct for television. After writing and directing the haunting Bethany, James shifted his focus to producing. He has now produced forty-eight features including releases for Lionsgate and Cinedigm and is a member of both the PGA and SAG/AFTRA. His impressive body of work has won him numerous Best Picture and Best Director awards on the film festival circuit. James has achieved all this at the age of 29 and refuses to slow down as he continues to push the envelop and make films no one thought possible. His most recent features include Beyond The Law, starring Steven Seagal and DMX along with Survive The Game and Fortress which star Bruce Willis and Chad Michael Murray. He also just completed photography on the feature Hot Seat starring Mel Gibson, Kevin Dillon, Shannen Doherty and Sam Asghari. Cue the laugh track, maniacs! We're bringing a deep cut to the table as part of A Comedy Of Horrors with the 1988 shot-on-video cult flick Woodchipper Massacre. Tune in as we discuss the movie and other topics such as receiving packages in the mail in the 90s, adding a new phrase into our vocabularies, and probably the most anyone has talked about The Ground Round in decades. Time for a story, maniacs! We're in the midst of Anthology Month and this week finds us recording live at the Riverside Drive-In during their April Ghouls Monster-Rama, where we discuss the highly expensive 1987 shot-on-video anthology Tales From The Quadead Zone. We're also joined spontaneously by frequent guests during these drive-in episodes, Josh Allshouse and Jamie from Neo Trash Video. While we uncover some factoids about this deep cut, we also discuss topics such as fancy Kool-Aid pitchers, the sounds of a ghost child, and what the hell is a quadead anyway??? A FULL HOUSE DIVIDED. Everyone (Adam, Joey, JP, JD, and Apocalypse) are here for the DIVISIVE EXPERIENCE of BLOOD LAKE. A movie made over a water skiing vacation in Oklahoma that is either perfect or abysmal. This episode runs long as we try to hash it out. A movie so so stupid, yet… just well crafted enough to count as a film. It's truly special… in a variety of ways. Live from Pawnee: A Parks and Recreation Fan Rewatch Podcast
This week Mark and Allen break down the Episode that shows us the origin of Tom's "Rent-A-Swag" business idea! When Diane Lewis invites Ron to go trick or treating with her and her daughters, he initially declines, but an excited Andy wants to join them, and gets Ron to agree. That night, Ron and Andy go trick-or-treating with Diane and daughters Zoe and Ivy, but in the middle of it, Diane gets a call about some sort of "vice-principal emergency". Fortunately, Andy assures Diane (to her relief) that he and Ron will continue taking the girls trick-or-treating while she deals with the emergency. Unfortunately, Ron's attempts to provide direction and counsel for the young girls goes ... let's say poorly ... ruining their Halloween. Diane leaves Ron an angry voicemail, causing him to reflect that ... maybe ... he isn't ready for an entire family. Meanwhile, Leslie (with bestie Ann as support) is viewing houses in preparation for she and Ben to move in together when he returns from DC. In DC, Ben announces the campaign he's been working on is complete, and they have won! April leaves immediately because, why not, while Jennifer Barkley talks to Ben about what he's doing next, and offers him the opportunity to work on another campaign. When Ben relays this to Leslie, he promises that nothing is set in stone, and everything is still preliminary ... but Leslie still feels like everything is now topsy-turvy, the future is very uncertain, and has no idea what will happen with her and Ben. Finally, Chris announces to the gang that for Halloween, the City Manager's office will be throwing a scary movie night in the courtyard, specifically a screening of the 1986 horror camp classic, "Death Canoe 4: Murder at Blood Lake". Excited about just receiving a "Most Improved Patient" award from his therapist, Dr. Richard Nygard, Chris has become more introspective, and has decided to "face his fears", so to speak. For Chris, this means attending the scary movie night dressed up as his greatest fear. During the scary movie night, Leslie talks with Ann regarding Ben's situation, and Ann tries to cheer up Leslie by having them both scare Tom when he comes out of the bathroom. They do so, but instead surprise Jerry, apparently causing him to have a mild heart attack. Jerry is rushed to the hospital, where Ann confidently assures everyone Jerry will be fine, and Jerry is in a good mood, except a bit worried about the medical bills. To help out Jerry, Leslie arranges for the Parks Department to hold a garage-sale-slash-fundraiser to help pay hospital expenses. As always, we tackle the tough questions, such as ... Will Jerry really be okay? Can this be the end for Ron and Diane? Does Leslie end up leasing the house? What is Chris' greatest fear? What items does the gang bring to the fundraiser? Is there some sort of gift Ron can bring for the girls? Will Ben take the job in Florida? Why did Dr. Richard Nygard give Chris his "Most Improved Patient" award? What is the deal with Ann's "ex-boyfriend" boxes? Loyal podcast viewers, Season 5 seems to keep getting better and better ... will this episode continue the trend? Only one way to find out - tune in and see how we score it! Many thanks to our amazing sponsor, The Pawnee Mystery Closet.

It's that time of year again, in that it's time for a New Year and SLASHER ONE-AND-DONES(THE ONES WE'VE DONE)!!! Continuing our tradition of brackets on brackets, this year we've pitted slasher movies without sequels(that we've covered on the podcast) against each other to determine which one is our favourite from Blood Lake to Bay of Blood and Blood Rage! As always, this is just for fun - and just our opinion! Happy New Year!
Hey guys! This week we're joined by a very special guest. One of my best friends came up from New York this week and did this episode with me! In this episode Audrey covered the Betty and Barney Hill Incident, the first recorded alien abduction. Adde talked about Blood Lake and the dark history behind it. You're getting two tales in one!
In the eight episode of Cultpix Radio WCPX 66.6 we count down one week left of VIP only membership, so join now while it is still cheaper, before the site opens to everyone. We discuss what developments you will see on the site in Phase 2 (Chromecast support tops the list); lots of films and TV shows coming to Cultpix after we completed a bunch of transfers from Digibeta; restorations and films delivered to us by the Swedish Film Institute (SFI) and the British Film Institute (BFI), as well as Nikkatsu starting restoration of our secret project. The use of A.I. and machine learning (ML) for restoring, up-converting, colorizing and enhancing footage that is over 100 years old captures our attention as one of the leading online adult sites makes its AI watch 100,000 hours of porn to learn how to do it - hopefully not going blind or getting hairy palms in the process. So which of our own films would we consider for this treatment? Grandma will never have looked so good in the buff!Bernard Hermann's strings announce our Theme Week look at Slasher Killers. What was spawned by Hitchcock's Psycho and Powell's Peeping Tom had an interesting pre-history of all the tropes of a classic slasher film being pioneered earlier, as well as early examples of the genre like Coppola's Dementia 13. Andy Milligan's The Ghastly Ones, a.k.a. Blood Rites (1968) pointed the way with its low budget, single location, excess gore is interesting in being a period slasher film. In The Horrible House on the Hill (1974) the slashers are kids, while Drive-In Massacre (1976) have some of the fattest cops you've seen in a horror film. Killer Workout / Aerobicide (1987) is such a by-the-numbers slasher that of course it has a shower scene, but at least a novel deadly instrument (oversized safety pin). Six teenagers, a weekend by a lake, one bloodthirsty maniac all makes it a Blood Lake (1987). Lastly Effects (1979) is a very meta slasher film as the film crew discusses viewers' appetite for seeing grissly scenes on film.New films this week include two from the Nordisk Tonefilm archive, with almost 50 films that we will be sharing on Cultpix in the coming months, which we also hope to make English subtitles available for. The Starlost is the 'lost' Canadian television series that could have become the new Star Trek if it had not been cancelled early. Finally New Faces (1954) sees Mel Brooks trying out ideas that would later come back in The Producers, while Eartha Kitt sings MONOTONOUS:Everyone gets into a dull routineIf they don't get a chance to change the sceneI could not be wearierLife could not be drearierIf I lived in SiberiaI'll tell ya what I meanI met a rather amusing foolWhile on my way to IstanbulHe bought me the Black Sea for my swimming poolMonotonous...

Welcome to an extra special BONUS EPISODE of Genre Grinder. What you are about to hear is a digital mixtape compiled and mixed by Tracks of the Damned creator Patrick Ripoll. It includes themes, complete songs, and various clips from the films we’ve been discussing throughout Genre Grinder’s shot-on-video horror series. Be aware that, in most cases, Patrick or myself had to rip the audio from the films themselves, so the sound quality will be uneven to say the least. Then again, that’s kind of the point isn’t. So, sit back, relax, and let the SOV horror vibes take you away. Complete track listing: 1a. WREX Station Identification 1b. 20/20 Report: "VCR Horrors" 1c. Sledgehammer (1983) opening credits 2. That can’t be right. Oh, yeah, this is a four-part epic now. Gabe and special co-host Patrick Ripoll (who did most of the research) break down 21 more shot-on video horror movies; nine of which one or both of them have been able to actually see, including ‘classics,’ like the Polonia Brothers’ Hallucinations (1986) & Splatter Farm (1987), Jeff Hathcock’s Night Ripper! (1986), Chester Novell Turner’s Tales from the Quadead Zone (1987), and Gary P. Cohen’s genuine cult classic, Video Violence (1987). Some people have asked for a list of the films covered in the description (which I failed to do last time), so here you go. All of the movies we were able to watch are now marked with a †, while the others are discussed, based on available information/reviews: Hallucinations (1986) † Night of Terror (1986) Spine (1986) † Splatter: Architects of Fear (1986) Black River Monster (1986) Night Ripper! Returning from imprisonment abroad, a lunatic and his fellow podcasters band together to battle bloodthirsty demons (or were they zombies?) in feudal Massachusetts. It’s our Shot-on-Video episode! Today we’re talking about three super low-budget 80’s horror movies. First up, we’ve got 1986’s Terror at Tenkiller starring Stacey Logan and Michelle Merchant, this movie is about two friends spending their summer at a lake house when they’re pursued by both a killer and a douchebag ex-bf. Everybody talks very bizarrely. Second, and probably the lowest budget of the three with a light sprinkling of homophobia and misogyny we’re talking about 1987 slasher Blood Lake starring Doug Barry & Angela Darter a group of teens are stalked by a mysterious, cowboy-booted killer while at a cottage and finally we talk 1989 Ozploitation film Houseboat Horror, a lacklustre Friday the 13th rip off with way too many characters and too much going on.
