In the eight episode of Cultpix Radio WCPX 66.6 we count down one week left of VIP only membership, so join now while it is still cheaper, before the site opens to everyone. We discuss what developments you will see on the site in Phase 2 (Chromecast support tops the list); lots of films and TV shows coming to Cultpix after we completed a bunch of transfers from Digibeta; restorations and films delivered to us by the Swedish Film Institute (SFI) and the British Film Institute (BFI), as well as Nikkatsu starting restoration of our secret project. The use of A.I. and machine learning (ML) for restoring, up-converting, colorizing and enhancing footage that is over 100 years old captures our attention as one of the leading online adult sites makes its AI watch 100,000 hours of porn to learn how to do it - hopefully not going blind or getting hairy palms in the process. So which of our own films would we consider for this treatment? Grandma will never have looked so good in the buff!Bernard Hermann's strings announce our Theme Week look at Slasher Killers. What was spawned by Hitchcock's Psycho and Powell's Peeping Tom had an interesting pre-history of all the tropes of a classic slasher film being pioneered earlier, as well as early examples of the genre like Coppola's Dementia 13. Andy Milligan's The Ghastly Ones, a.k.a. Blood Rites (1968) pointed the way with its low budget, single location, excess gore is interesting in being a period slasher film. In The Horrible House on the Hill (1974) the slashers are kids, while Drive-In Massacre (1976) have some of the fattest cops you've seen in a horror film. Killer Workout / Aerobicide (1987) is such a by-the-numbers slasher that of course it has a shower scene, but at least a novel deadly instrument (oversized safety pin). Six teenagers, a weekend by a lake, one bloodthirsty maniac all makes it a Blood Lake (1987). Lastly Effects (1979) is a very meta slasher film as the film crew discusses viewers' appetite for seeing grissly scenes on film.New films this week include two from the Nordisk Tonefilm archive, with almost 50 films that we will be sharing on Cultpix in the coming months, which we also hope to make English subtitles available for. The Starlost is the 'lost' Canadian television series that could have become the new Star Trek if it had not been cancelled early. Finally New Faces (1954) sees Mel Brooks trying out ideas that would later come back in The Producers, while Eartha Kitt sings MONOTONOUS:Everyone gets into a dull routineIf they don't get a chance to change the sceneI could not be wearierLife could not be drearierIf I lived in SiberiaI'll tell ya what I meanI met a rather amusing foolWhile on my way to IstanbulHe bought me the Black Sea for my swimming poolMonotonous...
We're coming out of our shell this week as we explore “For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky"!Author Greg Cox returns to the show this week to discuss an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series that is full to bursting with innovative sci-fi ideas. The Enterprise has discovered an ancient civilization living in a hollow asteroid generation ship. Can Kirk and crew save the unknowing inhabitants from their fate or will they---and Dr. McCoy---see their journey end in destruction? The short run of the Original Series was marked by unbridled creativity, with many episodes presenting multiple, original premises that made the nascent universe of Trek feel living and lived in. Supported by the work of contemporary sci-fi authors and creators, Star Trek delivered prime-time escapism that challenged the existing paradigm of sci-fi television. On this episode, we discuss the way in which TOS reflected the unbridled creativity of '60s sci-fi, what makes a TOS story, layering multiple premises into a single episode, the attraction of generation ship stories, using religion as a mollifying social force, the technological status quo of the Trek galaxy, and the Original Series' real opinion of utopias. We also discuss adding cyborgs to TOS, whether or not Catwoman can fly a helicopter, the lack of CPR in Trek, getting married for the hospice care, "have typewriter, will travel", thumbing your nose at the Nuclear Age, classic full-sentence episode titles, pandemic storytelling, an "evenness of difference", having Trek as your only credit, VHS board games, fascinating failures like Lynch's Dune, "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex", how to tell your congregation your god is just a computer, and once again we play the Starlost game!Never promise to marry the alien priestess!Get Greg's new novel, "A Contest of Principles"!https://amzn.to/3gbm2hWLearn the story behind your favorite Trek stories with BackTrekking!http://www.twitter.com/backtrekkingHide out with us on Facebook and Twitter and the Just Enough Trope Discord!http://www.facebook.com/eistpodhttp://www.twitter.com/eistpodhttps://discord.gg/ATMBeUDBuy us a new god on Patreon and Ko-Fi!http://www.patreon.com/eistpodhttps://ko-fi.com/E1E01M2UASubscribe to the show on iTunes!https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/enterprising-individuals/id1113165661?mt=2

Don't bother to bring your stinking badges 'cause we're looking for "The Sword of Kahless"!Musician and podcaster GooeyFame is back on the show this week to discuss an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine that sees our heroes leave the safety of the Federation to go on a dangerous treasure hunt. After years of searching, Dahar Master Kor believes he has found the location of the great Sword of Kahless. But can Worf, Jadzia, and Kor reach the sword before Toral, son of Duras, and will their victory mean the end of their friendships . . . and their lives?Worf (and Worf actor Michael Dorn) is one of the unsung figures of the Star Trek Franchise, having appeared in 3 Trek series and 5 feature films. The strength, gravity, and unintentional levity he brings to his character make him one of the most appealing characters in the franchise, and his portrayal of Worf as a man in conflict with his past, his family, and his legacy has been the font of many a great Trek story (and hopefully more to come). On this episode, we talk about the history and legacy of the character, Wor's unwavering commitment to honor, why so many of his victories seem like defeats, the impressive lore of the Klingon racer, the impressively long character arc of Kor, and Trek's rock-solid bench of side characters. We also discuss the nature of veganism in Trek, the unbelievable career of stunt man Tom Morga, innocent god swords, "Korf" is Worf's Wario, #SpockHelmet, blue crystal razors, another(!) Starlost shout-out, the 3 sacred treasures of Japan, Neutrogena T-Gel money, caves caves caves, making Christopher Plummer be in your PC game, Sisko as the "cool teacher", a little Picard talk, some Trek news, Gooey is waiting for that Worf show, and Kal's got mad Gowron love!GIMME THAT TREK STUFF!Follow Gooey on Twitter and check out his other podcasts!https://twitter.com/gooeyfamehttps://twitter.com/VitrtualTheaterXhttps://twitter.com/PWRVPodcasthttps://twitter.com/BackTrekkingLearn the story behind your favorite Trek stories with Backtrekking!http://www.twitter.com/backtrekkingSTUN EVERYONE with us on Facebook and Twitter and the Just Enough Trope Discord!http://www.facebook.com/eistpodhttp://www.twitter.com/eistpodhttps://discord.gg/UeytGNPBuy us a new sword on Patreon and Ko-Fi!http://www.patreon.com/eistpodhttps://ko-fi.com/E1E01M2UASubscribe to the show on iTunes!https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/enterprising-individuals/id1113165661?mt=2

Celebrated sci-fi author Harlan Ellison created a show Amish people who learn they're living in outer space, in a ship containing everyone on Earth as they flee an uninhabitable Earth! It's the very ambitious and extremely cheap TV series THE STARLOST, starring Keir Dullea from 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY! If you're excited about this episode of MONSTER PARTY, give us a CHEKOV SCREAM!!! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD, welcome a true science fiction legend... WALTER KOENIG!!! Mr. Koenig is probably best known for his role as PAVEL CHEKOV in the original STAR TREK television series, but his amazing career didn't stop there! Walter had a recurring role in the TV show THE STARLOST, starred in the feature film MOONTRAP, and went on to appear in six of the STAR TREK motion pictures! As a writer, he created the character of ENIK on LAND OF THE LOST, and wrote "The Infinite Vulcan" episode of STAR TREK:THE ANIMATED SERIES. Of course Mr. Koenig truly blew all of our minds with his role as Psi-Cop ALFRED BESTER in the critically acclaimed television series, BABYLON 5! WALTER KOENIG provides us with a thoughtful and often humorous look at the world of show business, and the ups and downs of being a cultural icon. This episode is a MONSTER PARTY essential! So we expect you to download it before you can say, "Nuclear wessels."
Episode 55 we look at The Starlost ( okay we never heard of it either ). This 1973 show stars Keir Dullea ( 2001's Dave Bowman ( this show is not full of stars )). Foreseeing the destruction of the Earth, humanity builds a multi-generational starship called Earthship Ark, 50 miles (80 km) wide and 200 miles (320 km) long. The ship contains dozens of biospheres, each kilometres across and housing people of different cultures.
Ken Johnson from Hoodwinked Studios joined us this week to talk about his game Starlost. We asked Ken about what it takes to design a game for mobile and taking the traditional tower defence formula, and turning into something unique. You can find the Alpha version of Starlost on Google Play. Nothing inspires gamers more than a mystery. There is something about a digital treasure hunt, that brings players together and fosters community. We’ll be exploring the games that are littered with hidden content that require players to go the extra mile for the spoils, and the obscured mysteries that capture the attention of players. Just like all good things games have always had the possibly misused, in recent time sadly some people have been using certain in-game economies to launder illegal money. By buying and selling in-game currency cyber criminals to “clean” real money than can be then used to fund other damaging assets. Gamers are often the targets of these scams, as reports show they aren’t that careful with their online habits. You can find us on social media, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, YouTube and Steam. Just search for "pixelsift"!

Greetings! It has been way too long since the DHA blog was updated, but we hope this update will make up for all this time. The Deep House Archives podcast celebrates it's 3rd anniversary since it's revival, with a mix that deviates from the usual DHA style, but stays true to the spirit of constant search for new sounds, fusions and ideas in contemporary electronic dance music. Voyage of Discovery, mixed by Theo Zanos, explores the nu-disco genre and the incorporation of deep house elements, creating a style that is not limited to re-edits of original-era disco songs but serves as a full-fledged continuum of the 70s space and 80s italo disco. Named after the pilot episode of Canadian-produced, early 70s sci-fi tv series Starlost, but also a very fitting wordplay, the latest DHA issue might have lower BPMs than usual, but won't have any problems operating in the dance floor realm. Special thanks go to Allard One, who provided the photo art for this mix.As we mentioned earlier, this update serves also as a (belated) 3rd year anniversary issue of the Deep House Archives podcast. Revived in March of 2007, the blog has served it's mixes to more than 25k unique visitors and quickly became one of the most popular deep house podcasts. The 24 sets featured 360 different songs (no song has been featured twice in this blog). Most popular labels in here are Plastic City (18) and Nitegrooves (11), while most popular artists are Ananda Project (6), Timewriter (5) and Nick Holder (5). Throughout these years, the blog has received overwhelming positive response, both from old faithfuls as well as new listeners. To all, a warm thank you for your kind words.Don't forget that you can also join the deep house archives mailing list to receive alerts about updates. Here's the tracklisting for the mixdolle jolle - balearic incarnation (todd terje’s extra doll mix) - permanent vacationtensnake - holding back (my love) - running backi:cube - falling - versatilejay shepheard - absolute voltage - compost black labelnufrequency feat ben onono - fallen hero (motor city drum ensemble remix) - rebirthatmosfear - dancing in outer space (the revenge rework 2) - wolf music recordingschateau flight - baltringue (the body language remix) - get physicallindstrom - another station (todd terje remix) - feedelitylinkwood - barely eagle - firecracker recordingstrusme - good god - prime numbersrainer trueby - to know you - not on labelnick holder - feeling sad - dnhdamian schwartz vs mountain people - Holloway 005.2 (theo’s live mashup) - oslo / mountain peoplechris lattner - sick - fear of flyingmymy & emika - price tag - aus musicEnjoy!(stream at 192kbps) - (download at 192kbps) - (cue file)(front cover jpeg) - (back cover jpeg)
