If you're going through something difficult take courage from this quote that came across my path last week. "Most troubles are not as black as they seem if you pull them into the sunshine and shine the light on them." - Robert Alden. Here's yet another quote that came across my path while playing a game on my phone. “A single Sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.” St Francis of Assisi (as well as my Word Cookies game). What if the crowd isn't always right? From a time when handwashing was mocked to when tulips were worth more than houses, history reminds us that popular opinion can miss the truth. In this episode, we walk through Holy Week—from Palm Sunday to Easter—uncovering powerful, everyday lessons about faith, purpose, betrayal, perseverance, and hope. This isn't just a story about what happened then—it's an invitation to rethink what you believe now, stand firm when the crowd shifts, and discover how even the darkest moments can lead to resurrection. A couple of quotes from today's episode. "Sometimes we get so busy focusing on the physical that we forget the rest of it all." "Wondering and pondering are vital to really living." This is especially true if we want to live a Happy Life. One of the easiest ways to get to wondering is by wandering. Giving ourselves space to just walk. Not to think. Not to do. To just be. Because we wonder as we wander, but we don't wander when we wonder. St. Patrick's Day, International Day of Happiness and the Paralympics so eloquently tell us that we are all on the same team, team human being. Paralympic snowboarder, Brenna Huckaby's parents told Brenna, “We just want you to find happiness in who you are because you are the gold, and we love you.” Jason Brown, Olympic figure skater said, "When you can embrace and see how much you're supported and loved, that's winning." Welcome to Glenn Robison's Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can't not tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and '30s. Do you know who this lovely lady is? Her name is Kristi Turner. She’s not a composer, lyricist or musician, so why is she featured in the playlist of this week’s Rapidly Rotating Records? Kristi is the co-founder, along with her husband Ross, of Guided Discoveries, where I had the pleasure of working for more than a quarter century. Ross passed away unexpectedly last October and I dedicated a segment of the November 2 show to him. Kristi passed away just two months later and today, February 15, her family, friends and co-workers are gathering for a celebration of her life. In the first segment of this week’s show, you’ll hear little bit about Kristi and a number of records about a couple of her interests, dude ranches and horses. In other segments, Jimmy Durante gets a birthday segment and we’ll hear from Fred Spinelly. In the third segment, we’ll have our cake and listen to it, too! There's lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era. Just click the link above to listen streaming online and/or download for listening at your convenience. THANKS FOR LISTENING! ENJOY THE SHOW! “What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving them” - Henry David Thoreau. So, what kind of a person would you like to become this year? Many rely on New Year's resolutions to help get them there. Unfortunately, resolutions don't work for a lot of people; search online and find out for yourself. The statistics are staggering. When our resolution attempts fail, we tend to stay the same person year after year. The good news is, WE HAVE A SOLUTION, UP YOUR RESOLUTIONS. Say "so long" to New Year's Resolutions and Upgrade them instead. So up your resolutions and become the person you desire to be this year. Here are some past episodes that go into more detail on how to create a New Years Theme. So come and Linger with us and bring in the New Year correctly. A Cosmic Comedy of Questionable ChoicesWelcome to this episode of The Most Excellent 80s Movies Podcast! Hosts Krissy Lenz and Nathan Blackwell are joined by special guest Robert Fata to dive into the 1988 sci-fi rom-com My Stepmother is an Alien, starring Kim Basinger, Dan Aykroyd, and a scene-stealing debut from Alyson Hannigan. When scientist Steve Mills accidentally sends a signal to another galaxy, he inadvertently attracts the attention of gorgeous extraterrestrial Celeste, who arrives on Earth with a mission—and a magical purse named Bag. What follows is a whirlwind of awkward romance, questionable parenting, and enough '80s excess to power a small planet. The trio explores how this film—written by approximately everyone in Hollywood—manages to be simultaneously charming and deeply uncomfortable. Robert, who loved the movie as a child, confronts it with adult eyes and discovers layers of subtext he definitely wasn't picking up on at age seven. Kim Basinger's committed performance shines as she navigates everything from eating cigarette butts at parties to learning about intimacy through instructional videos provided by her alien AI companion. Meanwhile, Dan Aykroyd plays a widowed scientist who somehow seems less concerned about his daughter's emotional wellbeing than about getting remarried within 48 hours of meeting someone. The conversation delves into the film's bizarre pacing, where a three-day romance feels like both a lifetime and five minutes simultaneously. They discuss Alyson Hannigan's powerhouse crying scenes, John Lovitz's relentless commitment to being turned up to 300%, and the film's curious decision to spend entire minutes on sequences that could have been trimmed while rushing through major plot points. The hosts also grapple with how this movie might be viewed through a modern lens—particularly its treatment of relationships, consent, and the uncomfortably enthusiastic daughter who tracks her father's romantic activity like a sports statistician.Additional Highlights:The scientific accuracy (or lack thereof) of brass buttons creating intergalactic signalsKim Basinger's inexplicable obsession with Jimmy Durante as the pinnacle of human achievementWhy pre-pubescent Seth Green was already fully formed Seth GreenThe film's journey from a pitch about "a dark allegory for child abuse" to... whatever this becameRobert's ratings: 10/10 as a child, 6.5/10 as an adult; Nathan's more critical 4.5/10; Krissy agrees with the 6.5Ultimately, the hosts land on My Stepmother is an Alien being an enjoyable, if deeply flawed, time capsule of '80s comedy excess. It's a film that asks the important questions like "What if rom-coms were made exclusively by and for men?" and "How many writers does it take to make a box office bomb?" The answer to both: probably too many.Deep Cut Recommendations: The hosts share their picks for films that echo themes from My Stepmother is an Alien—from the disturbing art film Under the Skin to the Mike Myers comedy So I Married an Axe Murderer, plus the late '80s TV gem Out of This World.Want more? This Holiday season we have been tapping into two main things to make our Holidays Happier. Thanksgiving (the Holiday as well as the mentality) and our inner child. The last several episodes we have been focusing on the Thanksgiving side. So this episode we will be getting back to our inner child as we talk about that Holiday classic, and one of my favorites, The Little Drummer Boy. We will also be talking about my favorite Drummer Boys as well. Listen and share, and bring out the inner child in yourself as well as someone else. It's been said that Strong people stand up for themselves, but stronger people stand up for others. We all need someone who will fight for us. Someone who will stand up for us. When someone sticks up for you it says that you are valuable. It breeds confidenceThis is a perfect theme for Veteran's Day because that's exactly what Veteran's do. and this is what makes our world better, our country better, our lives better. Our confidence increases and so does our outlook. In fact, I think it's difficult to live a Happy life without this.Special thanks to James Kocian, for the use of "Mission". Maybe you should hold off on that. The song we used for the intro was "Are You Happy" by Primitive Radio Gods.
