Desmond and Scott are live and ready to dissect the latest Netflix time travel flick, "Fresh." In this episode, they navigate the twists and turns of this teen slasher film, which takes audiences from 2024 back to the "retro" era of 2003. As they delve into the film's plot, the hosts share their thoughts on its depiction of time travel, cultural references, and the challenges of creating a compelling narrative in this genre. Desmond and Scott critique the film's portrayal of early 2000s fashion and technology, questioning the stark contrast drawn between the two decades. They also explore the film's attempt to blend a slasher story with a time travel narrative, debating whether the movie succeeds in delivering thrills or falls short. The duo doesn't shy away from highlighting the film's plot holes and missed opportunities, particularly in its handling of time travel mechanics. Throughout the episode, they compare "Fresh" to other time travel films, pondering its place in the pantheon of the genre. The hosts discuss the film's themes of sisterhood and personal growth, while also reflecting on the overuse of time travel tropes and the importance of a well-executed plot. Whether you're a fan of time travel movies or just curious about Netflix's latest offering, this episode promises a lively discussion filled with humor and critical insights. Join Desmond and Scott as they attempt to make sense of "Fresh" and its contribution to the ever-expanding world of time travel cinema. In Episode 2, we mourn the loss of Gene Wilder, who recently passed away at age 83, by discussing our favorite comedy movies and the TV shows and films that shaped our sense of humor, along with others we just enjoyed and would recommend. Before we get into comedy, we start by talking about the Misfits reunion, a documentary about extras in the original “Star Wars” movie called “Elstree 1976,” “Blood Punch,” “Pokémon,” remaking “Susperia,” and the upcoming “Phantasm” sequel. We cover a lot of comedic ground throughout the show, starting with Gene Wilder and moving into Monty Python, Kids in the Hall, “The Simpsons,” “Ghostbusters,” “Count Duckula,” “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” Kevin Smith’s movies, “Troll 2,” “Dead Alive,” “Trainwreck” and other Judd Apatow movies, “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil,” Weird Al’s “UHF,” “Microwave Massacre,” “Pee Wee’s Big Holiday” on Netflix, and more! Cult Personalities is a brand new podcast dedicated to all the geeky, underrated, unusual, and offbeat movies, music, TV shows, books, comics, collectibles, beer, and more that we’re passionate about – basically anything that may have a cult following that influenced and shaped us into the irreverent weirdos that we are today. Hosted by beer writer and blogger Derek Warren, former co-host of the Beer Geeks Radio Hour, and Rich Howells, founder and editor of NEPA Scene and co-host of the NEPA Scene Podcast, this weekly show is our way to geek out and share our passions with fellow nerds and nerf herders, discussing big franchises and obscure gems while sharing our honest opinions and personal stories in a fun and relatable way.

This week on BEHIND THE LENS, debbie welcomes some very eclectic filmmakers talking about very unique – and fun – films. First up, director Madellaine Paxson joins debbie live to talk about her first feature film, BLOOD PUNCH. What makes Paxson's choice of BLOOD PUNCH even more interesting as her feature directorial debut is that her prior work, and that of BLOOD PUNCH writer Eddie Guzelian, has been as screenwriter for such terrific kids programming as "Power Rangers RPM", "The Tigger Movie", "Go, Diego, Go!" and more! From kids to comedic horror. And Madellaine explains it all! Then writer/director Phil Allocco is live talking about his latest rom com charmer, THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES; and when I say charmer, I do mean charmer! And listen to some powerful excerpts of debbie's exclusive interview with RACING EXTINCTION director, Louie Psihoyos, as they talk about one of the "Must See" documentaries of the year. Plus, in the last segment, you'll hear a little bit from debbie's exclusive director Scott Christopherson and former Utah Sheriff Dub Lawrence for some insight into the documentary PEACE OFFICER. In these troubled times post-Ferguson and continuing allegations of excessive force by police around the country, Dub Lawrence brings his personal story and personal tragedy to us with insight and objectivity. http://behindthelensonline.net http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

This week we chat with the team from Blood Punch Eddie Guzelian (Writer & Producer) & Ari Boyland (Lead Actor).
My guest today is Madellaine Paxson! She is making her directorial debut with the movie Blood Punch. It is available now on VOD, DVD, and iTunes. It has won several awards on the festival circuit, and I highly recommend it. The story grabbed me in the first two minutes, and did not let go until the end credits. Madellaine told me how she and the cast worked together on the 17th season of Power Rangers RPM, and her work as a writer at Walt Disney TV Animation. Blood Punch is quite the departure from that side of her career, and it was very interesting to learn about what inspired her to create it. Learn more at www.bloodpunchmovie.com. If you reach out to Madellaine, please let her know that you heard her here first. Enjoy! If you are looking for an easy way to support this show that won't cost you anything extra, please click through this LINK whenever you shop at Amazon. It goes a long way in keeping the lights on around here. Thank you in advance!
