Desmond and Scott are live and ready to dissect the latest Netflix time travel flick, "Fresh." In this episode, they navigate the twists and turns of this teen slasher film, which takes audiences from 2024 back to the "retro" era of 2003. As they delve into the film's plot, the hosts share their thoughts on its depiction of time travel, cultural references, and the challenges of creating a compelling narrative in this genre.  Desmond and Scott critique the film's portrayal of early 2000s fashion and technology, questioning the stark contrast drawn between the two decades. They also explore the film's attempt to blend a slasher story with a time travel narrative, debating whether the movie succeeds in delivering thrills or falls short. The duo doesn't shy away from highlighting the film's plot holes and missed opportunities, particularly in its handling of time travel mechanics.  Throughout the episode, they compare "Fresh" to other time travel films, pondering its place in the pantheon of the genre. The hosts discuss the film's themes of sisterhood and personal growth, while also reflecting on the overuse of time travel tropes and the importance of a well-executed plot.  Whether you're a fan of time travel movies or just curious about Netflix's latest offering, this episode promises a lively discussion filled with humor and critical insights. And you guys should be aware, if you (10:05) I'm kind of on the fence with all the dramedies right now (11:49) This movie is another one in the heyday of time travel movies (14:32) A woman from Miami decides to solve time travel in order to go back (18:44) The film follows MIT intern who goes through a loop of time travel (21:49) The film is set in a quantum realm where time works differently (25:15) There's a scene where Rachel visits Mark's son and he's dead (29:58) There is a subplot of this story that we need to discuss (35:09) And again, if this is the first time, like, she should have found the pills in the hospital (36:22) This is one of those films where time travel is not the focus (40:54) Let's see how other people feel about this movie. There are not enough audience reviews yet (42:47) This movie takes you through a life of a wonderful woman (45:19) So average those scores out and figure it out. Join Desmond and Scott as they dive into the chaotic world of "Mega Time Squad" from 2018. This 86-minute New Zealand comedy offers a unique take on time travel, filled with dry humor and a plot that spirals into delightful chaos. With a bracelet that allows limited time travel, our protagonist, John, finds himself in a loop of clones, crime, and comedic misadventures. In this episode, we explore the film's humorous take on time travel mechanics, the cultural nuances of New Zealand comedy, and the complexities of tracking multiple versions of the same character. Desmond attempts to unravel the tangled web of timelines, while Scott contemplates the film's thematic elements, including the recurring motif of "growing nuts."Join the conversation as we discuss the film's strengths and weaknesses, from its low-budget charm to its sometimes confusing narrative. We also debate the portrayal of folklore within the movie and whether the film's humor lands for audiences outside of New Zealand.(00:00) This is time pop, a podcast that discusses time travel and pop culture (02:24) So today we're gonna talk about mega Time squad from Mega Time Squad from 2018 (04:25) This movie is number 55 on Barry's list of best time travel films (07:07) Barry gives everything a number, and then he divides by 100 (09:14) Megaton is a New Zealand comedy with dry New Zealand humor (10:41) We gather quickly that these guys work for a New Zealand crime boss (13:00) The symbolism of nuts is major, uh, in this film (13:32) John takes money and then he gets the bracelet. So we're gonna get into this real fast (14:20) Scott: This movie is so small. There's no timeline on online (15:05) John travels back in time only, but not in space (18:59) This film feels like it was made in, like, the late nineties (23:45) There's a love interest with them. One of them becomes the demon later (27:55) Obviously, movies handle this where people try to kill other versions of themselves (31:45) In the end, there is two. So is what, the folklore is met (34:38) This film plays with the idea of making copies of yourself with time (39:14) Desmond: The movie is highly praised. Critics, too. It's a cult film (43:39) Low budget comedy with laugh out loud humor that peters out towards end (44:46) Scott: God, is this better or worse than my greatest hits (46:37) Desmond: I give this movie a mid the middle rating (49:09) Scott Lifton: We're still live right now, Desmond McNeeseMore FREE Podcasts at whatsoundsawesome.com/ or wherever you find fine, free podcasts.Show notes created by https://headliner.app Show notes created by https://headliner.app

timepoppod@gmail.com YouTube: @whatsoundsawesome Welcome, Chrononauts! This episode of Time Pop dives into the record-breaking film "Deadpool and Wolverine" (2024). Join Desmond and Scott as they dissect the film's chaotic blend of time travel, multiverse madness, and relentless humor. With a star-studded cast including Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and a slew of surprise cameos, this movie has already shattered box office records and left audiences buzzing. Tune in for a deep dive into the film's plot twists, character arcs, and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (00:00) This is Time pop, a podcast that discusses time travel and pop culture (02:36) Scott: Disney and Hulu are now combined. This is gonna change Disney forever (04:26) I thought this film set the record straight, set us toward the future (07:08) Sony owns Spider man and all the Spider man related stuff (07:31) Did you like the film? I. I did, yeah. I enjoyed it very much (11:26) When I saw the film, too, the Chris Evans mislead was so solid (12:09) At the end of Deadpool two, he goes to alternate versions of himself (15:42) Peter thinks he's Logan when Logan died in old man Logan (17:48) We get a nice montage of logans. There was at least, like, seven (21:04) The movie opens with a big fight scene, but nothing happens (23:41) So they're taking a cassandra nova, the twin sister, Charles Xavier (25:45) The Honda Odyssey is the most unique product placement I've ever seen (28:10) So in talking to them. They asked for help, uh, to help. So they want Logan to join. They feel like they were heroes (31:08) Paradox is trying to get rid of Earth 1005 through paradox (34:35) This is a Wolverine out of his timeline, and they don't care (36:34) Everyone knows in this universe that Logan is dead, so they know (37:54) The film ends with a really touching send off to the Fox universe (41:01) Logan was set in the future when it was released, right (43:28) This film involves time travel, but it's mostly multiverse jumping (47:14) I loved this movie, but it's one of those movies where I was like (48:35) Too many references to inappropriate sexual behavior in Deadpool and Wolverine (51:49) What did we give Deadpool two after this conversation (53:59) What's your rating on Avengers: Infinity War? 1035 (54:35) Even in the next episode, we could take a few minutes to discuss some theories (57:25) We're watching revenge of the nerds tonight. That's our new podcast (59:59) Our plan going into the fall is to do this podcast live

Then they discuss a long list of time travel movies as they each struggle to decide which to call their favorites. Next Keith talks about being a Guest of Honor at BatesCon #1 and other work stuff, then Andy talks about the new Chrononauts expansion, changing the name of the Winnie the Pooh version of Fluxx, and playtest #7 of Starbase Armstrong. Lastly they discuss media including the new Doctor Who, a couple of time travel books, and after the Spoiler Curtain, the Whistespeak episode of Star Trek Discovery.
