This week, we continue our series, Beyond Fear, and turn to the call of Abram and explore how we might respond to God's call, not out of fear, but in trust of God's promise.
Today, we’re bringing you the best from the KUOW Newsroom First, residents of North Seattle along Aurora Avenue are on edge, after a recent surge of gun violence in a neighborhood that has been a longtime hotspot for human trafficking. City officials say they’re working urgently to close streets and assign police patrols Next, the latest from the paper mill disaster in Longview, where earlier this week, the names were released of the 11 people who died. The scope of the tragedy has sparked concerns about the lasting impact on this Southwest Washington town. Next, students and families in Bothell have been pushing back against a decision to not renew the contract of a popular school resource officer. And finally, typically when you spot a great blue heron in western Washington, you see one flying or fishing alone. In Redmond a huge group of herons have picked a place to nest - in an unusual spot. This Sunday, we welcomed Rev. Cruz Edwin Santos, Director of Hispanic/Latinx Ministries for the Pacific Northwest Conference of The United Methodist Church as we celebrated Pentecost Sunday! He shared how the miracle of Pentecost wasn't that everyone suddenly sounded the same. It was that God showed up in every language, every culture, every story — and didn't ask anyone to leave theirs at the door.

This week, we launch our post-Easter sermon series, exploring what it means to live as Resurrection People. In a world that tries to shape us by fear, how might we be challenged to embody living hope?
Happy Easter! This week, Pastor Joe reminds us that Easter is a call to resistance against empire. He challenges us to remember that resurrection is not only something we celebrate, but a way of becoming the people God calls us to be!
This week, Pastor Joe continues to focus on resistance as a theme for Lent as we journey with Jesus into Jerusalem on what is known as Palm Sunday. He challenges us to take a side: to either align with power and empire or to follow Christ into a new way of love, justice, and communal courage.

Washington, like the entire country, has been hit hard by fentanyl. in 2025, King County has recorded more than 650 overdose deaths involving the synthetic opioid, which can be 50 times stronger than heroin. 650 is a devastating number but it’s actually down from a peak in 2023, when more than 1,000 people died from fentanyl-related overdoses in the county. The drop mirrors a downward trend that we’ve seen across the entire country… But the crisis is still overwhelming many communities. A biotech company called ARMR Sciences is hoping to solve at least one piece of this very complicated puzzle: Instead of reversing these overdoses, they want to stop them from happening in the first place... through a fentanyl vaccine. This segment first aired in December of 2025. Also - We wanted to share a response we got from a listener about our update on Kratom. In case you missed it, Kratom is a plant from Southeast Asia that can have psychoactive effects. You’ve probably seen the signs for it - they’re plastered on just about every smoke shop in the city. We previously spoke with UW Medicine researcher Caleb Banta Green about what we know about kratom. And we replayed a short bit of that conversation last week in an update…. Because Spokane and Spokane Valley recently banned the sale of the substance. We also asked you to give us your thoughts on Kratom and whether it should be a banned substance. Erik from Bothell responded with a really interesting personal take on the substance, and its effects. GUESTS: Dr. Colin Haile, a research associate professor at the University of Houston and he’s also one of the co-founders of ARMR Sciences. This week, we continue our journey through Lent as Resistance and how we might resist death. Resurrection is not only about what happens later. It is what happens whenever life breaks through now. And if resurrection is happening now, then we can no longer accept what diminishes life as inevitable.
This week, we continue our journey through Lent as Resistance and how we can resist blame. We named how Lent invites us to notice how quickly we explain suffering by assigning fault, and how we can choose to live a different way by looking for the work of God in places we might otherwise dismiss.

This week, Pastor Joe launches our Advent Series titled Desperate Measures as we recognize that our world is not as it should be. How might we live into hope, not as optimism or pretending that everything will work out, but rather as a declaration that better days are coming?
This week, we wrapped our 140th Anniversary sermon series by turning to the story of the Israelites thirsty in the wilderness. God tells Moses: "I will be standing there in front of you on the rock." From that rock, water flowed; from hard places, streams emerge. As we celebrate 140 years, we're called to walk toward the rock with courage, trusting God is already there. The next 140 years begin now!
