Inspired by summers spent with family in Hickman, Kentucky—on the banks of the Mississippi River and at Reelfoot Lake—his work captures the essence of the wildlife and landscapes that shaped his childhood. In this episode, recorded during the opening reception on February 27, 2025, Discovery Park's senior director of exhibits and collections, Jennifer Wildes, conducts a brief interview and Q&A with Dunn. He shares the inspiration behind Reelfoot Critters, his creative process, and insights into his distinctive style. Listen in to discover how Dunn transforms metal into expressive sculptures, infusing a sense of place and nostalgia into each piece.

In this exciting episode of Talk on the Wild Side, Rob heads to the stunning Pegwell Bay to chat with Adrian Pierssene from National Grid about their ambitious Sea Link Project. This multi-million-pound initiative aims to supercharge the Grid's renewable energy capabilities by connecting Kent and Suffolk with an underwater cable. But there's a twist—plans for a massive converter station at Minster Marshes, a cherished Local Wildlife Site, and a landfall point at Pegwell Bay, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, have Kent Wildlife Trust sounding the alarm.Adrian shares National Grid's vision of boosting biodiversity as part of the project, but can cutting-edge infrastructure truly coexist with nature? Tune in for a candid conversation as we dig into the details, debate the possibilities, and explore the balance between progress and preservation!Update: Since the recording of this episode, the proposed mitigation site has been revised. On this update, National Grid states:“Following ongoing discussions with stakeholders including local authorities and Natural England, we have removed the wetland from our proposals. Instead, we have identified an area of existing arable farmland, approximately 10ha in size. In this new location, it is proposed to adapt existing arable farming practices in a way that is beneficial to important bird species such as golden plover. This will include measure such as maximising the amount of time that bare ground is maintained over winter, so that the foraging environmental is enhanced. We are also proposing skylark plots in these areas, which are unsown areas within arable crops, providing skylarks with access to nesting habitats throughout their breeding season.” Kent Wildlife Trust remains concerned about the suitability of this mitigation, saying: "The new site is situated near a busy A-road, with considerable noise and light pollution from the bustling Discovery Park. Furthermore, it lies outside the flight range of the Golden Plover, a species that thrives in large numbers at Minster Marshes. As a result, the Trust remains doubtful about its suitability as a refuge for wildlife." Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Prosecutors allege Cox, 69, struck Pugh in a marked crosswalk after leaving a holiday party. Cox refused sobriety tests, admitting to drinking “three beers” and taking medication. Police noted signs of impairment but no slurred speech. Evidence presented included bar receipts showing multiple beers ordered by Cox's group earlier and testimony about the catastrophic brain injuries that led to Pugh's death. Defense attorneys questioned the receipt's accuracy, highlighted poor visibility at the crash scene, and argued Cox's demeanor did not indicate intoxication. The trial, criticized for its slow pace, continues amid debates over evidence admissibility and witness questioning. STORY 2:     Church Street Park Opens in Marietta Church Street Park has opened in downtown Marietta, transforming a former parking lot along the Mountain to River Trail into a vibrant community greenspace. Developed by Bridger Properties, the park features landscaping, seating, swings, bike racks, and a turfed area usable by nearby restaurants. The space complements the Church Street development, hosting businesses like Contrast Artisan Ales, Bom, and 7 Tequilas, with Gianni & Mac's Ristorante and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams set to open soon. She highlighted differences between smoothbore and rifled cannons and their impact during the Atlanta Campaign. Visitors learned about the Confederate Army's high-ground advantage and viewed artifacts from the battle. History buffs and families, including those visiting from Estonia, praised the educational experience, emphasizing the importance of understanding history to shape the future. STORY 5:  First Stretch of 100-Mile Trail Project Opens in South Cobb The first segment of the Chattahoochee RiverLands trail, a 0.7-mile stretch at Discovery Park at Riverline in Mableton, was unveiled and hailed as the start of a 100-mile greenway connecting 19 cities along the river. This ambitious project, born from a $1 million investment by Cobb County, aims to improve river access and foster economic development, community connection, and environmental preservation. Over $43 million has been secured for the RiverLands in Cobb, including $25 million in public funding. Future plans include extending the trail to Mableton Parkway by 2026 as part of a decades-long effort to complete the entire network, transforming the region with expanded green space and recreational opportunities.   We'll be back in a moment    Break: Ingles Markets 9 STORY 6:  47-Home Midway Road Subdivision Proposed The Cobb Planning Commission will review Poston Properties' proposal for a 47-home subdivision on Midway Road near Lost Mountain Park. The plan features traditional and craftsman-style homes with at least 2,200 square feet and two-car garages. The developer seeks open space community zoning, which would preserve 50% of the 48.67-acre property as permanently protected open space, including walking trails and park areas. A mandatory HOA and a 100-foot buffer from the neighboring Broadlands subdivision are also proposed. Previously delayed in October, the plan aims to balance development with conservation while enhancing the community. STORY 7:  UPDATE: Man Killed in Smyrna Hit-and-Run Cobb County Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident in Smyrna that killed 30-year-old Jose Ortega-Dominguez early Saturday morning. Around 4:30 a.m., Ortega-Dominguez was struck by a westbound vehicle while walking outside a marked crosswalk on Pat Mell Road, near Green Acres Elementary School. There seems to be another wicked virus going around and I seemed to find (or, more accurately, it found me) during my trip to Seattle. Luckily, I had packed my BioBlue Leuco! So while it was a miserable experience consisting of intense full-body aches, zero appetite, extremely low energy and the inability to sleep because of those aforementioned symptoms, it provided me with an amazing methylene blue, or in this case leucomethylene blue, anecdote. Compared to the typical recovery time of 4 - 7 days or more, getting back to my normal self in 48 hours was nothing short of astounding. So I felt compelled to share that story with you guys today. For quite some time now, I have been working on a concept that is predicated on all of the information I have been absorbing for the past 5+ years about optimizing health, wellness and longevity. And based on my synthesis of all of this information, and information I continue to learn on a daily basis, it has become abundantly clear that the lowest hanging fruit and the ultimate root source of our health and vitality is (surprise, surpirse): mitochondrial function. With that being said, in today's episode I reveal my conceptualization: The Mitochondrial Triad. As the name implies, there are three pillars to this triad. Listen to find out what they are! I hope you enjoy the information in today's solosode. Mark Levine of Atlanta Home Shows joins the podcast to talk about all the great exhibits you can see at the Atlanta Home Show this weekend at the Cobb Galleria.  Plus: A Kennesaw State University economist told businesspeople Tuesday that he's optimistic that steps taken by the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation will stabilize the banking sector in the wake of two regional banks collapsing. In response to the failure of California-based Silicon Valley Bank and New York-based Signature Bank, authorities announced a new instrument through which banks whose balance sheets are hobbled by high interest rates will be able to access liquidity in the form of Fed loans against their affected assets. The Treasury Department, meanwhile, announced Sunday that customers of both banks would not lose their funds, including those who had funds exceeding the $250,000 federal insurance limit. President Joe Biden said Monday taxpayers would not bear the costs and the money would instead come from fees that banks pay into the federal Deposit Insurance Fund. He also said the collapse of the banks would not spiral into a larger crisis, as occurred in 2008. Those steps, Tutterow said, provide a “backstop” against what happened at Silicon Valley Bank, which he described as an “old-school bank run” where customers rush to withdraw their money in a panic. Tutterow said that banks like SVB invested heavily in longer-term bonds when interest rates were low. But then the Fed began raising interest rates to combat inflation, which lowered the value of the bonds. But to combat inflation, the Fed raised interest rates several times over the past year, lowering the value of the bonds. One audience member asked Tutterow if he expected more interest rate hikes, in light of the recent bank collapses. Tutterow said he thinks the hikes will continue. Another factor in the rapid collapse of SVB, Tutterow said, was technology. People can, with a few taps on their smartphone, move money between accounts, meaning banks are run quicker than they used to be. A Miami man wanted for questioning in a south Florida homicide was arrested after a police chase in Cumberland Monday, according to authorities. Gustavo Alexander Aviles (Ah-Veel-Lez) was arrested around 2 p.m. Monday at the corner of Cobb Parkway and Akers Mill Road while attempting to elude police, according to jail records. Aviles (Ah-Veel-Lez) is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer for a felony offense, a felony, as well as numerous misdemeanors related to traffic violations, per jail records, and he is being held without bond. This weekend hunt opportunity is available only for youth 16 years of age and younger, or hunters that are mobility impaired. The season bag limit for turkeys is one gobbler per hunter per day and a season total of two gobblers. Resident youth hunters under age 16 will not need a license. Hunters age 16 years or older, including those accompanying youth or others, will need a hunting license and a big game license unless hunting on their own private land. One can get a license at GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com, at a retail license vendor, or by phone. The 2023 Georgia statewide turkey season opens April 1 for Private Land and April 8 for Public Land. With approval from the Cobb Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, construction is expected to begin next month on the first phase of a trail along the Chattahoochee River in south Cobb. The first 1.2-mile stretch of the Chattahoochee Riverlands project, a trail in and around Discovery Park at the River Line, will begin construction sometime in April and is expected to take two years to complete, per the $3.4 million contract with Excellere Construction approved by commissioners in February. The trail segment along Discovery Boulevard is the “pilot” portion of what is hoped to be a multi-jurisdiction, 100-mile network from Lake Lanier to Newnan. The commission on Tuesday approved the final hurdle in the process to start construction on the first phase of the pilot portion. That last step before construction was confirmation from the Atlanta Regional Commission that the first phase of the project is consistent with the regional plan for the Chattahoochee River Corridor. Commissioners approved ARC's certificate of compliance by a 4-1 vote during their regular meeting Tuesday. Local business leader and author Kevin Paul Scott recently brought together leaders who have inspired him throughout the years to publicly dedicate his latest book and thank those who have impacted his life. A highlight of the book launch event was Scott's presentation to Barbara Dooley, wife of the late Coach Vince Dooley. Scott's new book, "Inspired Every Day," provides a path for individuals to find their passion and live a fulfilling life. It's only fitting that Scott dedicated the book to Vince and Barbara Dooley, after their mentorship and friendship for more than 15 years. Sadly, Coach Dooley passed away only weeks before the book was published. Scott doesn't just write about inspiration, he lives it out. The name of his company is ADDO, which is Latin for "Inspire." The global firm works with companies like Coca-Cola and Chick-fil-A to provide strategies, resources and programs to develop leaders. The book launch was somewhat of a full-circle moment because ADDO's inaugural event took place in Marietta more than a decade ago when Dooley and Reighard joined then-Sen. Johnny Isakson and Dr. Betty Siegel to host leaders.
