Combatting Burnout Talk less and listen more. First and foremost listen to yourself and what your body is telling you even if your mind is trying to push you harder. This was one of many powerful insights by Elizabeth Rosenberg, Founder of the appropriately named, Good Advice Company, who joined Jennifer Hill and Brandon Maslan to share her good advice. She shared that after winding up in the hospital she finally got healthy and started listening to herself. We so often put too much pressure on ourselves and the best thing for our careers is to take it easy so we can go harder later. Finally, she shared a great tip for starting meetings by asking others to check in on a scale of 1-5 on how they are doing mentally today and then adjusting your approach to meet them where they are. Be sure to check in with yourself on that same scale and if needed share with others where you are.

Communication Jennifer Hill and Brandon Maslan discussed the importance of clear, authentic, and concise communication in one's career. When you are excited and passionate it is easier to elicit that same reaction in a listener. Be sure to ask questions about how a person is doing on that day and what matters most to them. We all have the ability to better understand one another, we just have to be willing to be authentic. In seeking to be understood you should always seek to first understand.

Impostor Syndrome Jennifer Hill and Brandon Maslan delved into why Impostor Syndrome is linked to one's success. When your doubt is the loudest it can show up in interviews and in fact, often results in you not putting yourself up for promotions or raises. By naming the ways you sabotage yourself, you are able to stop it. This can be done by reaching out to others for support and discovering how you help them. At the end of the day, you are ready for the job before you think you are ready. Be confident about what you bring and be excited about it, then talk about that in interviews internally and externally. Then you will conquer your impostor!

Toxic Environments Can Lead To Healthy Outcomes Jennifer K. Hill and Brandon Maslan discuss what makes a toxic environment and offer tips for coping with them. They discuss various types of toxic personalities and how shifting one's stance or perspective can shift the perceived toxicity. Hill emphasizes that creating healthy boundaries is the key to enduring a toxic environment or individual. Maslan explains that the more you build yourself up the less likely you are to be broken down by those who might seek to cause harm. Ultimately, it is important to know that even environments that may feel detrimental to our egos can still serve a purpose of confidence building, the key is to leave before they can do any permanent damage.
