OverviewIn this raw and real episode of the Embodied Baddie Podcast, I'm pulling back the curtain and letting you in on one of those "WTF am I even doing" moments we all try to hide. Spoiler: I'm not hiding. Instead, I'm sharing how I faced my feels head-on and turned a heavy, messy potential spiral into a breakthrough moment. Because let's be honest, emotions don't take a backseat just because you're running a business or living a “successful” life. Here's What You'll Take Away:Feel the Feels, Babe: Yeah, ignoring emotions might feel easier, but it'll bite you later. I'm talking about why emotional awareness is your real flex, not a weakness.Vulnerability Is the Ultimate Glow-Up: Nobody likes to feel exposed, but that's where the magic happens. I'm sharing how being vulnerable has been my shortcut to clarity, strength, and surprising freedom.Get Yourself a Hype Squad: We all need someone to remind us we're not losing it. I'll walk you through how my coach helped me unpack my chaos and why reaching out for support is a total game-changer.Progress Isn't Always Obvious: Let's talk about the quiet wins. Growth doesn't always look like fireworks; sometimes, it's just a whisper telling you to keep going. The Breakdown Before the Breakthrough: That soul-crushing moment? It's often the setup for your next level. Let me tell you why the messy middle is the place to find your power.Actionable Steps for You:Sit With It: Stop dodging your emotions. Get quiet, grab your journal, or just ugly cry in your car if you need to. Whatever helps you feel it.Find Your Person: Whether it's a friend, coach, or therapist, reach out. You deserve someone in your corner reminding you of your badassery.Practice Patience: Not every step will feel like a leap. Celebrate the tiny victories, even if it's just getting out of bed today.Show Up as You Are: Vulnerability is your permission slip to be unapologetically real. Share your mess; it's where connection lives. The Membership You Need:If this episode hits home, imagine how much further you could go with a community of women who get it. That's exactly why I created The SurTHRIVE Hive—your go-to space for tools, support, and the kind of real talk that helps you thrive without pretending you've got it all figured out.Listen NowPress play and join me as I unpack what it means to process emotions, lean on others, and find your power in the messy middle. This intimate and revealing conversation highlights the behind-the-scenes dynamics that have enabled Hot Tongue Pizza's success and Alex's own growth as a leader. A must-listen for anyone in the restaurant industry or interested in the power of strong leadership and teamwork.   - Effective management involves striking a balance between being hands-on and allowing staff autonomy. Learning to delegate tasks, listen to feedback, and let employees make mistakes are crucial for growth and building trust.   - Creating a positive restaurant culture requires a combination of open communication, respect for staff as individuals, and making work fun. Sarcasm and joking should be balanced with clearly communicating expectations and feedback. The customer is not always right.   - While hospitality is about serving people, managers need to know when to draw the line and stand up for their team in the face of rude or abusive customer behavior. Enabling this behavior ultimately hurts staff morale.   This Episode's Sponsors→

What does her experience - and her words about it - suggest about our own resilience and how we build it? Get Yourself to Take Action People often ask what steps are needed to increase productivity and get more done. That's easy. It always comes down to understanding how the action moves you forward. Like any good story, life IS a story. All actions have a beginning, middle, and end. Anything else is stumbling along - which is easy to do if you're not paying attention. Here's how you sum up actions in three steps: The beginning is “Access Actions,” which determine the steps needed to get your project moving. The middle is about momentum and achievement. “Advancing Actions” move you toward benchmarks and help you monitor your progress, and make iterations and adjustments. “Achievement Actions” are those steps required to complete your project with no loose ends. Taking action. It's not about getting things done so you can work more. It's about getting things done so you can play more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The proverbial expression, “you are what you eat” is one of the wisest and most profound health insights. The food that you eat literally creates the cells in your body, including your blood, your brain, and your skin. And at a time in history when we are surrounded by hyper-palatable ultra-processed foods, going back to the basics of human nutrition is critical for our overall health and longevity. No matter what your diet philosophy is, there are some main tenets you can incorporate to build a stronger body and brain.  On this episode, you're going to learn some key insights on how your diet affects a multitude of functions in your body, including your metabolism and weight, cognition and memory, and so much more. You're going to hear some of the studies that I referenced in my book, Eat Smarter, plus applicable takeaways you can use to create a well-rounded, health affirmative diet. This episode is my interview on Empire Podcast with Bedros Keuilian.  We're diving into specifics like fine-tuning your hydration levels, the science on omega-3 fatty acids, and why magnesium is essential for human health. I'm also sharing the framework behind Eat Smarter, and why it is intended to serve as a unifier for all. I hope you enjoy my interview from the Empire Podcast!   In this episode you'll discover: The science behind brain coupling.  Why you should consider the types of people you surround yourself with. How our bodies are literally made from the food we eat.  Why your diet impacts so much more than your weight.  What epigenetic controllers are and why they matter.  The definition of epicaloric control.  How side effects from pharmaceutical drugs can lead to more health problems. Why your microbes can dictate your weight.  How the function of the metabolism can change when we eat processed food. Why the human brain is hardwired to look for problems.   The impacts dehydration can have on your cognition.  A rough estimate of how much water you should be drinking.  The role that electrolytes play in human health.  What the number one mineral deficiency in our country is.  The link between omega 3 consumption and memory.  What neuronutrition is. The effects of DHA and EPA on brain health. Why basic foundational health principles are more important than following a diet.  Items mentioned in this episode include: Foursigmatic.com/model -- Get an exclusive 10% discount on your daily health elixirs! If you want to reach the goals that you have set for yourself, the answer is not more motivation, more confidence, or more self-discipline. Confidence is trusting and relying on yourself to do the things you said you would do. You can't build that trust and reliance until you start taking action, no matter how you feel. In this episode, we talk about how we choose our actions to live the life we truly want to live. We discuss what it takes to start making progress toward our goals. If you're ready to get serious about taking mindful, committed action in your life, based on what is most important to you, then listen in. We are continuing our series in which we are working to learn how to get ourselves to do the things we want to do, even when we don't feel like doing them. In episode 19 we learned how to accept our thoughts and feelings. In this episode we discuss the next step in the process, to choose a value-based direction and next step. We decide the person we want to be, we consider what is important to us, and then we choose our next right step based on these values, not on how we feel in the moment. This is a practice that we will need to work to improve over time. However, when we choose to live by our values and determine our success in life based on how well our actions align with our values we can feel more successful and fulfilled in our lives. Humans have around 6,200 thoughts per day. Some thoughts are helpful and some thoughts hold us back from doing the things we want to do. Our emotions also play a role in giving us the desire to do or not do the things we want. We have the ability to change our thoughts and feelings to help us do more of the things that matter to us. But we will still have some unhelpful thoughts or feelings that hold us back from living the life we want to live. This episode talks about how we can become more aware of our thoughts and feelings. This will help us recognize our power over our thoughts and emotions. We can accept our thoughts and feelings, we can change our thoughts and feelings, and we can also ignore our thoughts and feelings and still do the things we want to do, no matter how we feel. Perfect Copywriting Formulas for Your Email Marketing For this episode of our podcast, The Ecom Show, we're focusing on one of the essential cornerstones of great marketing... copywriting! This week we've got the privilege of speaking with one of our own all-star copywriters at Budai Media, Nick Marshall from Bournemouth, England! From teacher to content writer, and then journalist to copywriter, Nick has plenty to share with aspiring writers. And ecommerce business owners alike. He likes to focus more on marketing psychology and how people behave in groups to get great results and perfect his craft. Have a listen as Budai Media's founder, Daniel, and self-proclaimed “behavior economist” Nick discuss: ✔️ How to get started as a copywriter ✔️ AI and copywriting automation ✔️ Tried and true templates vs. experimentation and creativity ✔️ Who should hire a copywriter? ✔️ Great resources for understanding how to write compelling copy Where to Begin Ten years ago, Nick had no idea what copywriting even truly was. He didn't know any of the overused abbreviations like CTA or what a sales funnel was! People often misunderstand what it means to be a copywriter, and there is no correct way to set yourself up to become one. Nick spent most of his professional career as a journalist and a content creator, which he says often involves presenting information “as clearly as possible.” As a copywriter, he's learned to shift his focus to evoking an action or response, whether it be a sale or a page visit. Humans vs. Machines There's plenty of careers being automated in this day and age, but Nick says that “creativity is the last great advantage we have.” For example, automated software algorithms programmed to scan and replicate content can sometimes strike gold, especially with things like email subject lines. But they will never understand the deeper context, according to Daniel, or create something unique and original. In a career where you're supposed to connect on a human level with your audience, it feels like copywriter's jobs are safe for now! Learn the Rules to Break the Rules Nick has read plenty of books, taken courses, listened to lectures, but he thinks this will only take you so far. To be a true copywriter, you need to venture off on your own and experiment. If you do what is statistically proven to work every time, you might lose your audience's attention! It pays to break the rules once and a while. So long as you stick to the brand's character and voice, there is truly no limit to what you can do as a copywriter or advertiser. Get Yourself a Copywriter If... People often think they can write websites or email copy themselves and are surprised when their conversion rates are awful. It can be hard to relinquish your brand and enlist others to help serve as the “custodian of the brand,” as Nick puts it, but if you have a 5-star restaurant and your menu is riddled with spelling mistakes, will anyone actually take you seriously? If you manage to have the budget for a copywriter, the product pages and basic email flows are a top priority! Leave it to a professional, and don't assume copywriting is easy, just like you wouldn't assume graphic design or coding is easy. Top Resources for Copywriters Nick thinks it's best to have 2-3 resources you check every day, and even if you learn something, you always have to go back and rehash it every so often. He recommends sites like: Copy Hackers Very Good Copy Marketing Examples Have a Word Game of Conversions DaveTrott The best thing Nick recommends is simply to become more aware of the copy all around you. You're bombarded by advertisements each and every day, and Nick believes you can even learn something by sifting through your spam inbox and picking apart the worst emails you can find! We try to focus on a different aspect of ecommerce and advertising each week, and there is no denying how valuable copywriters like Nick are in this industry! “Give your people, the opportunity to do what they're best at, do it to the best of their abilities and the responsibility to get on and direct. And the trust to make that happen. They will bring you so much back.” Helen Joy.  Helen tells us about how in her first management role she was awful as she was afraid of being seen to be weak so she changed into this person she thought she should and for six years she was deeply unhappy in that role because it clashed with her values.  When she was given the freedom, autonomy and responsibility she knew that was her chance to do it right and be the person that she was inside. One of her bug bears is promoting people for their technical ability with absolutely no concern, focus or support given around the people side because it is setting people up for failure.  She reveals the #1 topic she gets asked about when delivering training to aspiring new managers.  And we talk about how the workplace is changing and how understanding yourself can make you a great leader.    Helen Joy's passion is Leadership and Management Development, particularly aspiring and new managers.
