Listen and subscribe at www.JustProWrestlingNews.com I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Wednesday, June 16, 2021. This update is brought to you by the Wrestling Mayhem Show. Check out the new episode right now wherever you get your podcasts.. (STINGER: WWE) Samoa Joe is back in WWE...and back in NXT. He showed up at the top of last night's show - where he agreed to assist GM William Regal...and got in the face of NXT Champ Karrion Kross. Later, Joe broke up a backstage shouting match between Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly...by choking out Cole. Regal made a match between Cole and O'Reilly for the Great American Bash special on July 6th. Joe also had a staredown backstage with Pete Dunne. Joe was among a group of wrestlers released by WWE right after WrestleMania back in April. O'Reilly's night didn't end with Cole. He showed up to challenge Kushida to a match on next week's NXT. Kushida had just successfully defended his Cruiserweight Title in an open challenge against the debuting Trey Baxter - the former Blake Christian. LA Knight's coronation as the new Million Dollar Champion ended with Knight punching out Ted DiBiase. Cameron Grimes ran off Knight and saved DiBiase from the potential of any further harm. Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher beat the Grizzled Young Veterans in a Tornado Tag in last night's main event. Breezango beat Imperium. Tyler Breeze surprised Fabian Aichner with a rollup to get the pin. Imperium got their revenge and laid out Breeze after the match. The NXT Women's Champion Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai beat Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter. After weeks of promo vidoes, we're told The Diamond Mine opens next week. Also, there were some very quick videos that simply showed a charging battery icon. Sheamus tweeted Tuesday that the Celtic cross he wears during his entrance was among the items stolen from the home of the ThunderDome - the University of South Florida's Yuengling Center. The thief was caught on camera during the break-in on June 5th...but remains at large. (STINGER: AEW) On last night's AEW Dark...Dante Martin beat Sonny Kiss. Later, Kiss confronted Joey Janela backstage and it appears their tag team is over. Also, The Acclaimed beat Dark Order's Colt Cabana & Alan “5” Angels...and Billy & Colten Gunn beat Chaos Project. A reminder...there's no Dynamite tonight. It's pushed back to Friday once again this week. (STINGER: ROH) The latest man to advance in Ring Of Honor's Survival Of The Fittest tournament is...Chris Dickinson. He advanced by submitting O'Shay Edwards with the STF in a match that premiered on ROH's “Week By Week” YouTube show on Tuesday. On last night's NWA Powerrr...JTG won a 3-Way National Title Qualifying Match - beating Fred Rosser and El Rudo - better known as Sam Adonis. MLW confirmed Tuesday that Cesar Duran - formerly known as Dario Cueto in Lucha Underground - will be at its Battle Riot III show in Philadelphia on July 10th. (STINGER: Impact) Impact Wrestling is indicating that “a dangerous stipulation match is in the works for Slammiversary”...with an official announcement coming at Noon on Thursday. Finally, best wishes going out to former TNA & Impact color commentator Don West. He announced Tuesday that he was “diagnosed with a brain lymphoma and will begin immediate treatment.” That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Wednesday, June 16. Sarray and Stark were having a nice moment of sportsmanship after the match, but Toni Storm interrupted that...and took down Stark. The new Cruiserweight Champion Kushida issued an open challenge. It was answered by Oney Lorcan. Kushida submitted Lorcan. After the match, Kushida was jumped by Legado Del Fantasma. MSK ran in for the rescue. I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Thursday, January 14, 2021.. This update is sponsored by IndyWrestling.us. Results from last night's AEW Dynamite, NXT and MLW Fusion are straight ahead in this update but first… (STINGER: WWE) A major title match set for today's NXT UK - WALTER will be defending his United Kingdom Championship against A-Kid. Also, Tyler Bate will be in action against Sam Gradwell. The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is underway. THREE first-round matches on last night's NXT. Earlier in the day, WWE announced we'd see the debut of a new team - called MSK. It turned out to be the team formerly known as The Rascalz - Dezmond Xavier & Zachary Wentz now known as Wes Lee & Nash Carter. They advanced with a win over Isaiah "Swerve" Scott & Jake Atlas. The Grizzled Young Veterans beat Ever-Rise...and Adam Cole & Roderick Strong got past Breezango. But they needed a little backup to do it. During the match, Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch attacked Kyle O'Reilly at ringside. That drew out NXT Champion Finn Balor returning the favor to the Undisputed Era, who saved him from Dunne, Lorcan and Burch earlier in the show. The first-ever WOMEN'S Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will not wait until the men's edition is complete. That tournament will begin on NEXT week's NXT - with Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter vs. Toni Storm & Mercedes Martinez. Two other teams also announced last night - Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell..and Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon. But the full tournament bracket is still being kept under wraps. Two first round matches in the men's Dusty Classic also announced for next week - Kushida & Leon Ruff vs. Johnny Gargano & Austin Theory....and Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner vs. Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado. We'll also finally get Tommaso Ciampa vs. Timothy Thatcher in the FIGHT PIT on next week's NXT. (STINGER: AEW) Now, let's dig into last night's AEW Dynamite. Darby Allin is still the TNT Champion. He survived an offensive onslaught from Brian Cage, then got a late assist from Sting when Team Taz got involved. For a few moments, it looked like Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks would team up for a 6-man tag. But Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows snuck in to take the Bucks' spots. Omega and the Good Brothers beat the Varsity Blondes and Danny Limelight. After the match, Jon Moxley tried to beat the odds. When he was overwhelmed, Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero M came to the rescue. When Mox got Omega back in his sights, the Young Bucks came out to stop him...but Fenix and Penta surprised the Bucks with a pair of superkicks. The show opened with Pac beating Eddie Kingston. Miro soundly defeated Chuck Taylor. That means Chuck must now serve as Miro's “butler” for the next month or so. Serena Deeb beat Tay Conti to retain the NWA Women's Championship. Some key matches set up for next Wednesday. Hangman Page says he'll again team with the Dark Order..and promised to give the group an answer to their offer for him to join them. Also made for next week, a tag team triple threat involving most of the Inner Circle - Santana & Ortiz vs. Chris Jericho & MJF vs. Jake Hager & Sammy Guevara. Again, that's next Wednesday. And a match made for AEW's Beach Break special on February 3rd - Dr. Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa. (STINGER: Impact) Impact Wrestling is giving its announce team an overhaul. The new team of Matt Striker and D'Lo Brown will debut at Saturday's Hard to Kill pay per view. Josh Matthews is being promoted into an off-camera position. New tag champs in Major League Wrestling - The Von Erichs were dethroned by Los Parks. It did not come easy. It took interference from Salina de la Renta and persistently nefarious officiating by special guest referee FILTHY Tom Lawlor. Also, on Wednesday's Fusion - former Lucha Underground champ Mil Muertes made his MLW debut with a dominating win over Brian Pillman Jr. A title change in Dragon Gate early Wednesday. We have new Open The Triangle Gate champs - Kzy, Susumu Yokosuka & Genki Horiguchi. They dethroned Takashi Yoshida, KAZMA SAKAMOTO & SB KENTo. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Thursday, January 14. Our next update comes your way tomorrow morning. Please rate, review and subscribe so you don't miss a thing. Or simply tell your smart speaker to play the Just Pro Wrestling News podcast. I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Thursday, January 7, 2021. This update is sponsored by IndyWrestling.us. Results from NXT, MLW and New Japan's New Year Dash shows are straight ahead in this update but first.. (STINGER: AEW) Let's unpack the end of last night's AEW Dynamite..where the Kenny Omega/Impact Wrestling saga turned into a full fledged North American Bullet Club reunion. Omega beat Rey Fenix to retain his AEW title. He then revealed Eddie Kingston, The Butcher and The Blade had attacked Penta El Zero M and Pac backstage. Omega vowed to end Fenix, but Jon Moxley came to the rescue, armed with a barbed wire baseball bat. Mox got a few shots in on Omega before Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows - the Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions - showed up to save Kenny. Their attack on Moxley eventually drew some of the wrestlers at ringside to get involved, but they were little help. Finally, the Young Bucks came out and ended up helping Omega. The final shot was the Bucks reluctantly joining Omega, Anderson and Gallows in a “Too Sweet”. The Bucks opened the show teaming with SCU to beat The Hydrid2 & The Acclaimed. After the match, Christopher Daniels made it clear that SCU is aiming for the Bucks' tag titles. Also last night, Cody Rhodes had Snoop Dogg in his corner as he beat Matt Sydal. Serpentico and Luther tried to jump Rhodes and Sydal after the match but were turned away and Snoop dropped a top rope splash on Serpentico. Hikaru Shida beat Abadon to hold onto the AEW women's title. And Wardlow hit the F10 and beat Jake Hager. The two exchanged a mutual respect fist bump after the match. Chuck Taylor said Trent will be out of action for 4-5 months with a torn pec. Taylor will face Miro next week, and if Chuck loses he has to be Miro's “young boy”. Also added to next week's show: Serena Deeb defending the NWA Women's Title against Tay Conti...and Eddie Kingston vs. Pac. (STINGER: WWE) Finn Balor is still the NXT Champion. He beat Kyle O'Reilly via submission on last night's NXT. Raquel Gonzalez beat Rhea Ripley in their Last Woman Standing match after Gonzalez choke slammed Ripley through the entrance stage. Karrion Kross beat Damien Priest. And Santos Escaor retained his cruiserweight title against Gran Metalik. The FIGHT PIT match between Tommasso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher was pulled from last night's show due to an injury for Thatcher. Also, the next NXT TakeOver special on the WWE Network will be on Valentine's Day - Sunday, February 14th. Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic begins next week with a pair of first round matches: Adam Cole and Roderick Strong vs. Breezango...and the Grizzled Young Veterans vs. Ever-Rise. NXT also announced the first-ever WOMEN'S Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is coming soon. The only title change on Wednesday was the MLW World Middleweight Championship. Lio Rush dethroned Myron Reed. MLW's Court Bauer says the league is in talks with at least two “major” networks about expanding its programming. (Bauer MLW TV Talks) Bauer speaking with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp. (STINGER: New Japan) New title challengers coming into focus at New Japan's New Year Dash show Wednesday. The main event mult-man tag match setting up NEVER champ Shingo Takagi vs Hiroshi Tanahashi...and HIromu Takahashi defending his junior heavyweight title against SHO. On the undercard, El Phantasmo pinned Yoshinobu Kanemaru after a suspiciously powerful superkick. That puts ELP and Taiji Ishimori in line for a shot at the jr tag titles held by Kanemaru and El Desperado. The Empire laid waste to Hiroyoshi Tenzan to the point that he was stretchered out of the arena. Kazuchika Okada now has his sights set on EVIL. As for Jay White...He was pinned by Tomohiro Ishii - as CHAOS beat Bullet Club in a 10-man tag. White was carried to the back, but there was no further follow-up to his post-Wrestle Kingdom comments that he's “done” in New Japan. Ring Of Honor announcing Amy Rose has re-signed with the company. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Thursday, January 7. Our next update comes your way tomorrow morning, so be sure to subscribe to this feed. Robbie and Carrabis are joined by “Prince Pretty” Tyler Breeze this week to discuss FCW life vs NXT life, favorite NXT memories, how Breezango came about, and the Fashion Files! Before he's in studio, the boys break down all of the news this week including a possible Batista return to the ring, Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks selling out a 10,000+ seat venue, and a Women's Royal Rumble match. They also recap the week in wrestling which includes WWE's first ever Starrcade. Cream of the Crop is favorite faction name.
Kyle is on vacation this week, but Alasdair decides that's no reason not to talk wrestling, especially when the deeply strange Battleground pay-per-view is tomorrow. So he's joined by Jim (@MrDeCoyote), fan of the podcast, reactor from the Fine Brothers web series, and creator of his own YouTube series "The Theory of Wrestling." He recently cut a promo in which he gave WWE an intervention for its reliance on xenophobic tropes, which the Cena-Rusev and Orton-Mahal angles are just marinated in. Alasdair and Jim analyze why WWE loves this kind of story so much and why some wrestlers are able to be interesting despite it (Kevin Owens!) while others aren't (sigh... Jinder). All that plus some general thoughts on Battleground, where legit the most intriguing thing might be who on earth could be behind the Breezango attacks. For lack of a better option, we're rooting for the Club.

Much to Kyle's delight, we completely skip Raw this week and focus our attentions on NXT Takeover: Chicago, which was great, and Backlash, which was... hey, did you all see NXT Takeover: Chicago? We jump straight in with huge praise for all things UK Championship, with Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne putting on a damn match of the year candidate. We consider what kind of match would best showcase Shinsuke Nakamura, then look at the improving state of the tag division in this beautiful Breezango-driven world. But then we have to mourn the end of DIY, and a week later we're still not really ready to face it. Oh, and Jinder Mahal is champion. Um. Yeah. So, you see NXT Takeover: Chicago?
Yeah, we both liked the House of Horrors match. Don't worry, this is (probably!) still worth listening to. We explain why we enjoyed the glorious trainwreck of Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton's final (surely, right?) encounter, then get into why A.J. Styles and Sami Zayn connect with us more consistently than similarly talented dudes of roughly similar stature like Seth Rollins and Finn Balor. We pay tribute to the last chapter of the JeriKO saga, then take a moment to recognize the brilliance of Breezango and the Fashion Files. All that and Kyle's preview of his upcoming trip to Ring of Honor and New Japan's joint War of the Worlds show in Toronto, featuring Kenny Omega!
Alasdair and Kyle talk about the upcoming PPVs Payback and Backlash, assuming they can tell the difference. (There's one point in which Alasdair legitimately can't.) Kyle discusses how WWE could go about building a better go-home show, then we take a bunch of questions from listeners on Twitter. We discuss the best and worst possible visions of the House of Horrors match, how to keep Braun strong even if he loses to Roman, and the awesome hilarity that is WWE actually naming a PPV Great Balls of Fire. That's amazing. Plus we pay tribute to Breezango, number one contenders!
Coming in a little late this week (i.e. it's now next week), but no matter! Alasdair and Kyle have some fun breaking down the possibilities for the Survivor Series teams, but not before Alasdair assures everyone that Slater and Rhyno wrestled a PPV-worthy match against Breezango on the last Main Event taping. Are the world's two most beautiful wrestlers going to fill out the SmackDown tag team side, and who on earth is even going to join the New Day on the Raw side? What is Baron Corbin doing in the main match, and which combination of wrestlers are we most excited to see face off? (The answer must surely be A.J. Styles vs. Seth Rollins, if we're going strictly by in-ring stuff.) Plus we just barely remember to talk about Hell in a Cell, with Kyle going to bat for the women's main event, wonky ending be damned.
