Being the owner and driver of a sports car team during the heyday of sports cars racing in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s can be challenging, but also very rewarding. Competing part-time in both the World Sportscar Championship and IMSA GT Championship. During 1978 he accomplished a win at the Sebring 12 hours and along with veteran racer Brian Redman and Bobby Rahal, our guest Bob Garretson won the 24 Hours of Daytona. Despite not winning another race that season, He won the first ever awarded World Endurance Championship for Drivers title in 1981. He sold his team and retired from racing shortly thereafter… but that's just the beginning. Returning to co-host this episode is Mike Carr, who some of you might remember from our Randy Lanier episode.

All of us fans of motor racing are very lucky that Brian Redman ever sat behind the wheel of a racing car. Not just for his undoubtable skills and the success he found during the most dangerous and daunting era of the sport, but for the extraordinary ability he has to recount details of the many moments in his life in such detail it makes you feel like you were there yourself! Widely appreciated and in demand for his storytelling abilities, Brian is a most entertaining man, a true gentleman that brings light to everyone he meets. But that is the modern day Brian Redman; And one that contrasts with the single minded, tough competitor that he was in his prime! From Formula One where he had 12 starts and one Podium, Brian really forged his niche and reputation in the sportscar series, where he achieved wins in the Targo Florio, Daytona 24 Hours three times and two class victories at Le Mans (and a whole lot more!). I am lucky to call Brian a friend and to actually sit down at his house in Vero Beach and spend a couple of hours together was very special. And yes. We did have soup. JBDon't forget to check out the signed limited edition portrait I took of Brian now available at www.lifewithlegends.com

The Mecum October Takeover is in full swing with two live auctions in the books and the third on the horizon. There's lots to discuss about the recent Chattanooga auction, but before diving in, On the Move hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman have quite a bit of car news to share. John gives his full report from the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada, where he learned the ins and outs of piloting the C8 Corvette and was able to push the car to near its limits. Meanwhile, Matt also has impressions to share on the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival, which took place in concert with Mecum's auction. Both Matt and John were nearly shocked by a Toyota SR5 truck that crossed the block and brought more than six figures. The pair go into the details, pulling out the pop culture reference that helped it bring top dollar. From there, it's on to discussion of Ford's tease of the upcoming off-road focused Bronco Everglades and Acura's hints of the upcoming Integra hatchback sedan. Then, John shares what he thinks will be the biggest bit of October car news: the reveal of the 2023 Corvette C8 Z06, set to debut October 26. Up next, Matt is joined by Chattanooga Motorcar Festival Concours Director Ken Gross. The three-day automotive celebration took place concurrently with the Mecum auction and featured everything from competitive racing and scenic road rallies to evening street fairs full of live music. Top automotive personalities were on-site including Ray Evernham, Linda Vaughn, Tanner Foust, Wayne Carini and Brian Redman. It all culminated in a Sunday Concours d'Elegance, the focus of Matt and Ken's discussion. Ken shares some of the behind the scenes planning and intentionality that went into producing the event, while Matt also wants to find out about the high level judging at the event and how a Ferrari 275 came to be crowned Best of Show. From there, Ken changes gears to discuss another historic vehicle he's connected with: the 1951 Bob Hirohata Mercury set to cross Mecum's Kissimmee auction block in January. Ken shares his earliest memories of the vehicle and why the custom design work that went into it decades ago by famed brothers Sam and George Barris has truly stood the test of time.
Brian Redman is The Grand Ambassador of the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival, a three-day event that includes a Rallye, Grand Prix, and Concours d'Elegance. Brian participated in 358 races in his professional career.

Withe release of his superb book Daring Drivers, Deadly tracks, Brian Redman talks with Henry Hope Frost on 9th May 2016
John Surtees has a lot of fans. That much is clear from how many questions and good wishes were submitted when we announced we were recording a podcast with him. He's also amazingly sprightly and his memory is far better than mine. At the end of the podcast below I fired a completely random question to him about racing around the streets of Madrid in the late 1950s and within a matter of seconds he was into a story about the crowds and Francisco Franco sitting in a dangerous place. Astonishing. We talk through the 2016 Motor Sport Hall of Fame shortlist (below) and John gives his view on who he'd like to see victorious in each category. What's more, we take as many questions as possible. The shortlist, as voted for by you, is: Formula 1 – Mike Costin and Keith Duckworth, Gilles Villeneuve, Professor Sid Watkins, Sports cars – Derek Bell, Brian Redman, Pedro Rodríguez, Motorcycling – Joey Dunlop, Mike Hailwood, Valentino Rossi, Rallying – Richard Burns, Sébastien Loeb, Hannu Mikkola, US racing – Dan...
