Welcome to another hilarious episode of the TruVue Podcast! This time, we're tearing into Netflix's "Locked In," a movie that tries to be a thriller but ends up being a comedy goldmine for all the wrong reasons. With our TVP rename being "I Hit Yo Mama With My Car," we clown this mess of a movie and leave no stone unturned in our barbershop-style roast. "Locked In" follows a supposedly gripping story of a woman trapped in her car, trying to survive against a mysterious threat. But let's be real: the plot holes are bigger than the Grand Canyon, and the acting? Let's just say, if wooden performances were an Olympic sport, this cast would take gold. We dive into every ridiculous moment, from the laughable dialogue to the absurd plot twists that made us question our life choices. Join us in the barbershop as we break down the most cringeworthy scenes, highlight the funniest moments, and share why "Locked In" is a must-watch for all the wrong reasons. We'll bring our usual mix of jokes, NSFW banter, and brutally honest commentary. Remember, it's not just about the review; it's the conversation with the crew! In the second segment Jill and Tom welcome David Schneider of Harman Internation to the show. David walked the hosts through the portfolio of premium-audio brands the company manages, and what is involved in allowing a carmaker to use specific audio brands, including Bang & Olufsen, Harman Kardon, JBL, Mark Levinson, and Revel. David explained how Harman works with manufacturers to produce in-car audio experiences appropriate to each Harman brand. In the third segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Fake Concept Car” quiz, which includes a “fishy” bonus question. The hosts wrapped up the show discussing the Ram 1500 Classic, a previous generation Ram pickup truck still offered for sale a lower cost than the current-generation model.
From brittle speakers to fuzzy reception, older car radios can present some vexing problems, so we sat down with our pal Joe Rock from RetroSound to talk all about some basic troubleshooting and install tips for these vintage jamboxes. We also discussed a handful of solutions for folks that want to add modern audio capabilities to their classic car—without chopping up or otherwise upsetting the vintage aesthetic of their dash.

Vehicle audio is equipment installed in a car or other vehicle to provide in-car entertainment and information for the vehicle occupants. Until the 1950s it consisted of a simple AM radio. Additions since then have included FM radio (1952), 8-track tape players, cassette players, record players, CD players, DVD players, Blu-ray players, navigation systems, Bluetooth telephone integration, and smartphone controllers like CarPlay and Android Auto. Once controlled from the dashboard with a few buttons, they can now be controlled by steering wheel controls and voice commands.Email the show: auto@mpbonline.orgRecalls: Check for Recalls: Vehicle, Car Seat, Tire, Equipment | NHTSANews: Insurance Company Retroactively Cancels Man's Policy After A Crash Because He Has Teenagers At Home Hosted on Acast. Mark Eldridge is a living icon in the car audio industry, having been involved in it since he was 16 years old. He purchased his first vehicle, a 1974 Chevy Blazer, and installed an audio system in it. From that point forward, he was always upgrading the system for better sound. After college, he worked at General Dynamics and joined the Air Force, where he discovered a car audio magazine that taught him about cars, audio, and competition. He started competing in 1993 and went on to win his first world championship in 1995. Mark enjoyed going to shows and showing off his car while getting critiqued, but has since moved his focus to education. He continues to be passionate about teaching people how to make their audio systems sound the best they can. He teaches two-day classes where he covers everything related to music, the auditory system, and the interior of the car. His classes have grown from seven to eight people to as many as 20-24, and he expects to hold at least 6 classes this year. Apart from car audio, Mark also runs Artisan Customs, a business that creates custom exotic wood pieces such as guitar hangers, stands, and tables. He has been doing this since 2015 as a retreat from car audio. Being a musician also helps him in the car audio industry, but he believes that anyone can learn to be a better technician by simply understanding how different instruments sound live and knowing a little bit about recording. What You'll Learn: What the ultimate goal of Mark's classes is. How being a musician makes Mark a better car audio technician. Why speaker placement is the most important part of the audio system. And much more! Favorite Quote: “For me, from day one, it has always been about making it sound as good as it can.” -Mark Eldridge How to Get Connected: Facebook Artisan Customs

Dave MacKinnon got started in car audio while in high school at the age of 17. He participated in a co-op program where he volunteered at a local shop regularly. He loved knowing how stuff worked, and learned a lot from trial and error. After high school, Dave went on to try many different roles, from sales to tech rep, but it was a gig as a writer that really caught his interest. His first writing job fell into his lap when he got an email from a friend back in 2000 asking if Dave wanted to be his technical editor for a car audio magazine. Formally trained as an Electronics Technician, Dave had the expertise to successfully explain how mobile audio components work. Reviewing more than 450 products, Dave was passionate about sharing his knowledge. He says that's how something that started as a side gig turned into an 11 year career. With no formal training as a writer, Dave simply loved telling stories. His next and current writing job would come in 2015 as Head Writer for 1sixty8 Media. Publishing 3 direct to consumer articles a week, Dave educated people about technologies and upgrades to make their vehicles better. When Covid hit, for whatever reason, car audio exploded. Already owning bestcaraudio.com, they began to put a lot of their car audio content on there, and somewhat accidentally started an online car audio magazine. He wants all consumers to be well educated so that they can ‘do it once, and do it right'. What You'll Learn: Why more power doesn't mean better sound quality. How to turn consumers into regular customers. How car audio has evolved over the last 20 years. And much more! Favorite Quote: “Every rep will tell you their product sounds great, I want them to prove it.” -Dave MacKinnon How to Get Connected: Facebook

Today I am joined by James Smith to discuss the importance of foundation in every aspect of our lives! Find James at Therealjamespsmith.com .
In this episode I discuss some of the basics when it comes to planning car audio.
This week's episode delves into how in-car audio and sound management technologies continue to evolve with the megatrends of electrification, connectivity, and shared mobility. To meet the challenges arising from electrification and lightweighting, automakers are looking for audio systems that allow significant savings in terms of weight and space as well as more flexibility in terms of cockpit design. Automakers now cater to a wider range of car buyers by employing a selective audio sourcing approach and creating subtle variations in the quality of audio systems they offer. Software has become indispensable to the car today and active sound management applications are no different, be it use cases like engine sound enhancement, conversation enhancement, or various signal processing algorithms. We also discuss how consumer electronic technologies have spilled over to the car cabin, with Active Noise Cancellation and Surround Sound in particular becoming the hallmark of premium audio experience for automobiles. Speakers: • Vivek Beriwal, connected car and vehicle experience analyst, S&P Global Mobility • Riley Winton, Senior Manager, UX Concept, HARMAN We'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode at our autology@spglobal.com email, and you can find out much more across the autotechinsight.ihsmarkit.com website.

Car audio has changed so much since the 90s. Jason Ewing got in on the ground floor, doing car audio, security systems, and remote start since 1990. Working in a small shop while he was still in high school, Jason didn't get paid, instead he worked for product. Sweeping floors and putting tools away, Jason earned his first audio system piece by piece, and fell in love with the craft. Moving to Pittsburgh later down the road, Jason found a place at a shop called Audio Communications. The owner there took Jason under his wing and wowed him with the things he was able to build. From there, Jason would go on to work for another auto center that worked closely with dealerships. He found himself installing audio systems in Cavaliers before they hit the lot. In addition to that, Jason rented out a funeral home garage to work on his friends cars at night. Now, Jason's main gig is working as a tech support rep. He's always happy to help other installers with any issues that may arise. Hoping to expand his reach in the industry, Jason has been working on creating training videos for fellow car audio enthusiasts. What You'll Learn: How car audio has changed since the 90's. How the Power Probe can be an extremely valuable tool. What kind of training videos Jason is working on. And much more!! Favorite Quote: “Sometimes it just takes two of us banging our heads together.” -Jason Ewing

Brandon has his long time friend, Derek, in the studio to talk about his history in the car audio industry. Growing up with a car-loving father that was a senior engineer at IBM, Derek was destined for great things. One of the first electronics projects Derek built was a radio jammer. While he was learning, Derek admits to making a lot of mistakes, and even starting a couple fires. He eventually found some really good people that mentored him, and taught him the proper way to do things. Derek was a good fabricator, but a great troubleshooter. He was noticing that a lot of car audio was focused on looks and volume, but lacked sound quality. As cars progressed, car audio became more complex, but Derek rose to the occasion. Starting with sweeping floors, Derek worked his way up to VP of a manufacturing company. Surviving a recession and Covid, Derek has proven to have great business sense. What You'll Learn: What Christmas present got Derek interested in electronics at age 8. How car audio has become more complex. How the car audio industry survived a recession. What type of company Derek was able to successfully start during Covid. Favorite Quote: “Every effort in my career was not a solitary effort.” -Derek
What does the future of car audio look like? To answer this question, Kevin and Willie welcome John Myers of Kicker back to the podcast. Noting that the OEMs “do stuff to that audio signal that would just make an audiophile cringe,” Myers explains, “you're really not buying car audio; you're buying emotion.” Understanding the nuances and complexities of sound dynamics is the key. “You don't know what you're missing until you hear what you're missing and then you gotta have it!” Learn more about your ad choices. Want to know more about Car audio? Today we, along with our special guest, Living Loud with Andy tackle that subject.
This week we have a special guest! Master fabricator JT from High Voltage Car Audio.
Hackaday editors Mike Szczys and Elliot Williams have found a critical mass of projects this week that wouldn't be possible without 3D printers. There's an absolutely astounding model roller coaster that is true to the mechanisms and physics of the original (and beholden to hours of sanding and painting). Adding sheet material to the printing process is a novel way to build durable hinges and foldable mechanisms. Elliot picks out not one, but two quadruped robot projects that leverage 3D-printed parts in interesting ways. And for the electronics geeks there's a server rack stuffed with Raspberry Pi, and analog electronic wizardry to improve the resolution of the WS2811 LED controller. We wrap it all up with discussions of flying boats, and adding Bluetooth audio to old car head units. You know you want to read the show notes!
