Bass artist Jaenga had a clear philosophy from day one, music should not be limited by industry standards or genre boundaries. Erupting onto the scene in 2015, Jaenga distinguished himself in the festival circuit early, with his signature purple school bus and electrifying bass sounds. Jaenga and the “renegade bus” are renowned for hosting some of the biggest names in the electronic scene, attracting top talent such as Griz, Space Jesus, Eprom, Slushii, and Buku with its collaborative environment and creative energy. Joining the lineup of Electric Forest, and Camp Bisco, he has defined his live shows by immersing audiences in the world of Jaenga. A bass purist with retro sensibilities, Jaenga integrates live guitar, drums, or even just a pair of CDJs into his experiential performances. His new EP, Toulambi Tribe, released in the fall of 2018 on Zeds Dead's Deadbeats label, featured the signature bass-heavy sounds and ambient soundscapes that have become synonymous with Jaenga. Taking inspiration from the ideologies of the Toulambi tribe, human technological syncretism, and his own nomadic spirit has enabled Jaenga to created a timely piece that accurately reflects and questions the current zeitgeist. Along with his EP, Deadbeats released a Jaenga remix of the Zeds Dead's track “Kill Em” in October 2018 alongside featuring his single "Gold Rings" on an original Deadbeats compilation.

Hailing from The City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia's expansive music scene brought ZíA to where she is now. Born into a Russian family with a love for classic rock, blues, and jazz albums, ZíA was often found singing along and discovering her favorite sounds. Punk, alternative and metal tunes put her ear to the ground and sparked her passion for music. From the moment she came across Excision and Skrillex's diverse catalogues, she knew she was hooked. ZíA delved deeper and deeper into the bass music community, finding artists such as Skream, Benga, Caspa, Rusko, Joker, Liquid Stranger, Zeds Dead and Ganja White Night. They were constantly in her headphones, and unbeknownst to her, shaping her future sound. ZíA's passion for music motivated her to become more involved. She began working behind the scenes in the industry, and was lovingly nicknamed “tour mom.” Such proximity to the chaos of the spotlight inspired ZíA to tap into her creative side. She jumped in head first and hasn't looked back since. In 2018, ZíA stepped behind the decks at Camp Bisco. She spent the summer smashing renegade sets and steadily winning over hearts with her signature dark and dynamic mixing. ZíA was happy to accompany Subtronics and Blunts & Blondes on their Up in Smoke tour, consistently saturating the crowd with wobbles and wubs. Her ultimate goal as an artist is to resonate with her fans and move them on the same level music has shaped her. ZíA has played prestigious festivals such as Electric Forest, Lost Lands, Moonrise, Hard Summer, Okeechobee and more, and has released music on major labels such as Bassrush and Deadbeats. Stranded on a chairlift atop Montage Mountain in Pennsylvania, the Tale Time Crew recount their splendid (and drunken) vacation weekend at Camp Bisco 2019.  Despite the fact that the festival ended two weeks prior (leaving our helpless hosts isolated until the mountain reopens come winter) their spirits remain as high as their unfortunate chair-lifted quandary.  Luckily Andrew, Jake and Dan never leave home without their podcasting equipment, giving them ample time to record episode 10.  This week's tale is titled: "Stories They Won't Tell".  It's a riveting true tale of one family's haunting memories of the Lebanese Civil war.  The account is written by the talented poet/writer Ashley Bouchahine and appeared in Salon Magazine back in 2011. Ashley is a 28-year-old first-generation Lebanese American figuring her shit out in California. She writes stories about her family's experiences as refugees and immigrants to the United States, and about her own experience of home as a moving target. When she's not writing, she enjoys knitting, rock climbing, pottery, and traveling. At the time of this reading, she is in La Serena, Chile for the solar eclipse. She has two cats, Fred and Milkshake, both of whom she's infinitely proud of.

Subset on The DJ Sessions presented by Covert Bat Productions 5/17/20 About Subset - You can never be completely sure what you're in for when you see Subset perform - even he isn't too certain what to expect. Honing his craft over the past six years in the demanding and eclectic New York City scene, Subset has soaked up the variety of music NYC has to offer and developed his unique sound by finding ways to weave all of these loose threads together. From his weekly bass music party at Webster Hall (BASSment Saturdays) to his renegade sets at festivals around the country to massive sets at Holy Ship!, Camp Bisco, and Burning Man, Subset knows just what to play to set the perfect tone, no matter the setting. Subset has made his name and built a following in an unconventional manner. The usual formula for DJs is to lock themselves away in their studios and become antisocial while their hone their craft. Subset decided to flip the status quo and go hyper-social instead. He has spent the last six years building communities and developing close, personal relationships with those who enjoy his music. BASSment Saturdays, the legendary bass music weekly Subset hosts and curates at Webster Hall, has become a home and a family for electronic music fans all around the Northeast. Some fans travel hours to be there every week, not necessarily for the headliners, but for the family and the vibes that inhabit that space. Subset has also been an integral member of the Holy Ship! community known as Shipfam. For years, he has thrown countless preparties, afterparties, renegade sets, and meetups. In 2015, HARD recognized his aptitude for curation and event planning, and tapped him to curate his own stage at all Holy Ship! official preparties. In 2016, HARD recognized the demand that he had built over the last four years, and gave him sets on both Holy Ships. As his reach expands, Subset is seeking to use his platform to continue and expand his curation, launching a monthly livestream series based out of TPA Studios in Manhattan as well as collaborating on new monthly parties around the US. Subset is also diving into the studio on the heels of his wildly successful collaborative remix of Destructo & Bot's SHIPFAM anthem. Expect more projects and a lot more new music in 2016! In Episode 24, we sit down with Ted Wampole (Wilkes-Barre DJ Newpy Hundo), Nate Miller, and Richard Roani of Funkstronaut Productions, who are organizing the first-ever Satellite Ranch Music & Arts Festival at Mountain Sky in Jermyn on Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2 with intelligent dance music, house, techno, dub, disco, hip-hop, electronic fusion, and jamtronica, along with light and art installations, workshops, yoga, and silent disco. Before and during the interview, we crack open some crowlers from Beer Boys in Wilkes-Barre. They support local just like we do with NEPA breweries on tap every day, so this week, we try Front Street Wheat by Berwick Brewing Company, Sippin’ Time by Benny Brewing in Wilkes-Barre, and Pimp My Rye by North Slope Brewing in Dallas – all great session beers packed with flavor that go down easy. We talk about the origins of the inaugural festival, convincing Mountain Sky to host Satellite Ranch and how the location informed its name, what the different members of Funkstronaut Productions brought to the table and how their experiences and musical tastes helped shape the festival, the positive and negative effects that Camp Bisco in Scranton has had on the local perception of electronic music, defining “intelligent” dance music and how it stands out from typical EDM, the funny story behind the Newpy Hundo moniker, what a “silent disco” is, expanding musical horizons and creating good vibes, how they chose the artists in their diverse lineup, Lord RAJA and Adult Swim becoming an unexpected outlet for electronic artists, the future of Funkstronaut, and more. We close out the show by pointing out some of the weird and funny names of the artists playing at Satellite Ranch, which leads to some interesting stories and highlights of the festival, including some notable local acts. In Episode 18, we chat with Moscow artist, illustrator, and Jeweled Moon owner Patrick Kwiatkowski. Before the interview, we drink some crowlers of Sunny Spot by Susquehanna Brewing Company in Pittston courtesy of our newest sponsor, Beer Boys in Wilkes-Barre, and this is a different version of the summertime grapefruit shandy that you can only get at Beer Boys. This one is dry hopped with Citra, cask conditioned, and served at 55 degrees, giving it a much more natural, juicy, and fresh taste. Then we talk with Patrick about drawing as a kid and picking it up again later in life, developing as an artist, how jam bands like the Grateful Dead and Phish have inspired his work, taking music and turning it into art, following bands around and being a part of jam band culture, the importance of family-friendly venues like Mountain Sky in Jermyn, his relationship with his young daughter and her role in his work, creating his own original comic book, selling his art through Jeweled Moon, dabbling in local theatre and what movies are missing today, working in the local electrical workers union, the Church of the Latter-Day Dude, and more. We also answer some questions and comments from live viewers. In The Last Word segment, we discuss the ongoing controversies surrounding Camp Bisco in Scranton, debating its pros and cons and whether its issues with drugs and other crimes are overblown by the media or if The Pavilion at Montage Mountain should not agree to host the EDM music festival again after three years as we read and react to comments we received from readers.
