We had the pleasure of interviewing Meghan Linsey over Zoom video! No. 1 Billboard recording artist, Meghan Linsey, recently released her latest single, "If You Need Me Don't." This project is bringing The Voice alum back to her soulful, blues-driven New Orleans roots. Linsey recruited a stellar lineup of musicians for the track.. The single was produced by Linsey's husband and GRAMMY-nominated producer, Tyler Cain (Gramps Morgan, Ashley Monroe, Aloe Blacc). About Meghan Linsey:With her soulful voice and unique ability to rattle the rafters with gritty vocals, Meghan Linsey knows no boundaries in the realm of music. Linsey captured the hearts of America along with the ear of Scott Borchetta, a judge on the CMT reality singing competition Can You Duet. She won the show and Borchetta, the head of Big Machine Records, immediately signed the country-soul duo Steel Magnolia to his label. Success came quickly after the debut single “Keep on Lovin' You” catapulted to the Top 5 on Billboard. The pair toured with superstar acts including Brad Paisley, Bob Seger and Reba and appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Linsey embarked on her solo career writing and releasing two EP's before getting a call in 2015 from a producer for NBC's Emmy award-winning show, The Voice. During her time on The Voice, Linsey landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian chart with her rendition of "Amazing Grace" and had multiple No. 1's across all genres of the iTunes chart. She was crowned the season eight runner-up and was the first contestant in The Voice history to perform an original, self-penned song on the show's finale. We want to hear from you! Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Aimee Mayo over Zoom video! “I encourage EVERYONE to read this book. It is healing in so many ways. (Aimee) is such a talented writer.” —TIM MCGRAW, Country music superstar and actor"Wow. I feel bad about getting married :) after reading this. It reads like a movie." — RICK SPRINGFIELD, Grammy Award winning musician, actor and bestselling author"OMG. Aimee's book is one of the best things I've ever read. Unbelievable writing, fantastic storyteller, and completely honest." —BART HERBISON, President of Nashville Songwriters Association International“All my greatest gifts have come wrapped in ribbons of pain.” With this tantalizing opening line, I’d like to introduce you to Aimee Mayo and her debut memoir, TALKING TO THE SKY: A Memoir of Living Your Best Life in A Sh*t-Show (Little Blue Typewriter Press; Paperback; December 1, 2020). Aimee is a Grammy-nominated songwriter and one of the few women to receive both BMI's Country Song of the Year, and BMI's Country Songwriter of the Year—putting her in the elite company of Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, and Loretta Lynn. Her tragic, yet triumphant story begins one Christmas eve in rural Alabama with the shocking news of her father’s attempted suicide when she was just eight years old. Aimee was gifted a journal that fateful night in which she began to record her mind-blowing experiences with her bipolar father, who drifted in and out of her life, an abusive stepfather, caring, but deeply wounded relatives, and a nomadic childhood.Aimee expertly invites the reader into her wild youth growing up in the deep south, switching schools, bouncing from one family home to the next, and accidentally burning down her house...and car. After a close encounter with death, at the age of 19, Aimee eventually makes her way to Nashville to pursue her dream of becoming a songwriter, and falls right into the arms of another abuser. Aimee must once again, with wit and unflappable humor, pick herself up and walk away.Aimee’s dream eventually became a reality, and now she’s ready to share her incredible story. Her fifteen-year writing journey produced TALKING TO THE SKY, a universal story of faith over fear and triumph against all obstacles. It’s a must-read for anyone trying to pursue their dreams despite it all.About AIMEE MAYO Aimee Mayo is a Grammy-nominated songwriter and author. Singer/songwriter Rory Feek has written multiple #1 country hits for other artists, including Collin Raye's "Someone You Used to Know,” Clay Walker's "The Chain of Love," Blake Shelton’s “Some Beach,” and Easton Corbin’s “A Little More Country Than That.” Other songs from his catalog that have landed in the Top 20 are Tracy Byrd’s “The Truth About Men,” Blaine Larsen’s “How Do You Get That Lonely,” and Jimmy Wayne’s “I Will.” Additionally, his songs have been recorded by Kenny Chesney, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Mark Wills, Waylon Jennings, Charley Pride, The Oak Ridge Boys, John Michael Montgomery, Terri Clark, and Lorrie Morgan. In 2008 Rory formed the duo Joey + Rory with his wife, Joey Martin Feek, for the CMT show Can You Duet. Their popularity led to an ACM award for Top New Vocal Duo of the Year, their own TV show, eight successful albums, and a handful of charting singles, including the self-penned songs “Cheater Cheater” and “That’s Important to Me.” Rory’s identity as a storyteller extends beyond his songs to include screenplays, TV scripts, and a popular blog, which earned a loyal following as he shared his family’s pain, triumphs, fears, and deep personal faith during Joey’s battle with terminal cervical cancer. The duo’s final album, Hymns That Are Important to Us, was released in 2016, less than a month before Joey passed away at age 40. It debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart, was certified Gold, and earned the duo a Grammy for Best Roots Gospel Album. Rory’s memoir, This Life I Live, chronicles his spiritual journey, his love story with Joey, and his disarmingly vulnerable musings on his role in what he calls “God’s larger story.”
When The Stellas took their first trip to Nashville in 2008, they were still a relatively unknown husband-and-wife duo from the Toronto suburbs, armed with little more than two voices, one acoustic guitar, and a catalog of smart, catchy songs. These days, The Stellas are songwriters who have written 90% of the material on their own albums, as well as songs for other artists. They’re parents of Lennon and Maisy, who star as Maddie & Daphne on ABC's "Nashville." For Brad and MaryLynne Stella, the turning point occurred during a short trip to Nashville. While there, they talked their way into playing an impromptu show at the Commodore Grill, which led to a second show the following night. A publisher was in the audience that evening, and he liked what he heard. The Stellas were offered a deal on the spot. A year later, they were on the hit CMT show "Can You Duet?", moved to Nashville and signed a record deal with EMI Canada. They took home the CCMA trophy for "Duo of the Year" in 2013. Back in America, one of The Stellas' biggest fans, Zac Brown, asked the duo to join his band for a series of sold-out shows. Brad and MaryLynne have also toured with Johnny Reid & Terri Clark. "Back when we first started our career," Brad remembers, "we came across a lot of musicians who had a 'woe is me' story. They used to live in their car, or they had to wait tables for years before signing a record deal. We had that story, too, but we didn't view it as a negative thing, we thought of it more like camping! We wouldn't trade it for anything.” "In some ways, we're making a first impression all over again," MaryLynne says of their new record. “This is the album we always wanted to make."
This week, the lovely, talented Meghan Linsey is on the show with Scott and I. She happens to be my awesome girlfriend, but she also has a really exciting career as a recording artist in Nashville. She went from winning the TV show Can You Duet on CMT, to putting out several hit country singles with her group Steel Magnolia on Big Machine and selling over a million downloads. She recently released her first solo EP and has been enjoying the success of radio airplay, praise from Rolling Stone, and touring the country. She talks about touring with Reba McEntire, Bob Seger, and the Band Perry, working at a karaoke bar when moving to Nashville, and navigating the music industry. Also, we do an acoustic performance of her song “Cocaine and Jesus” at the end, so tune in!

Voted one of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive” for 2003, Rossi Morreale is currently host of ABC’s “Dating in the Dark.” Previously he hosted the reality singing competition “Can You Duet” and “Temptation,” a half-hour syndicated game show based on the global game show hit, “Sale of the Century.” Prior to “Temptation,” Morreale hosted “Foody Call” for The Style Network, “Riding with Rossi” for The Travel Channel, where he helped celebrate the country's continuing love affair with the motorized vehicle. From monster trucks to classic car expos and motorcycle rallies, the series enthralled audiences with some of the most amped-up machines on the planet. A “good ol’ Southern boy” at heart, Morreale was born and raised in Arkansas, where he attended the University of Arkansas and was starting wide receiver for the Arkansas Razorbacks. An avid sports player and viewer, he soon found a home on the G4 network as host of “Sweat,” a feature-oriented sports show where he interviewed many high-profile athletes from Shaquille O’Neal to Tony Hawk. After “Sweat” he moved to TLC, where he became host of “Junkyard Mega-Wars,” followed by “On-Air with Ryan Seacrest” and Spike TV’s “Midnight Spike.” For the latter two shows he appeared as correspondent and host, rubbing elbows with Hollywood celebrities and music superstars. Morreale’s hosting abilities run the gamut from sports programs to geeky mechanic shows to hob-knobbing with Hollywood elite. A host with no bounds, he’s equally at home trailing Tony Hawk on a skateboard or sipping champagne on a red carpet.
