In this exciting episode of the Holistic Wealth podcast with Keisha Blair, we're discussing “Tips for Arthritis Pain Management”, with special guest Dr. Ken Redcross. More than 350 million people globally suffer from arthritis. In the United States, it's estimated that one in four adults, or about 58.5 million people, have been diagnosed with arthritis and suffer from arthritis-related joint pain. Pain management can be challenging due to medication side effects, contraindications, and inconveniences, such as dosage, texture, and smell. If you suffer from arthritis, you may find it harder to walk, move around, and enjoy physical activities. When your joints wear down over time, the cushioning provided by the cartilage erodes, resulting in pain and stiffness. To manage the pain and make things more bearable you can follow a few simple tips to improve your quality of life. Physical health is a critical part of Holistic Wealth, and millions of people globally suffer from chronic pain and disability due to inadequate pain management. In this special two-part series of the Holistic Wealth podcast with Keisha Blair, our special guest is Dr. Ken Redcross and we are sharing tips and strategies to navigate cold and flu season. In Part 1 of this two-part series, we focussed on adults, and specifically people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and those undergoing cancer treatment during cold and flu season. In Part 2 – we are focussing on kids – and how families and parents can protect their kids during cold and flu season. Children's hospitals across North America have reported significant surges in patients, which led many to cancel major surgeries to redeploy staff to help in overcrowded emergency departments and intensive care units. The situation is exacerbated by low and sometimes non-existent supplies of children's pain and fever medications. In this episode, Dr. Redcross also outlined that there are more than 50 different species of cockroaches and in urban areas like New York City many urban dwellings have homes with cockroaches and they can also cause respiratory illnesses. Cockroach droppings, saliva, and decomposing bodies have proteins that can trigger allergic reactions and asthma attacks. On inhalation, the proteins from the cockroaches can inflame and constrict the airways, leading to wheezing, coughing, and difficulty breathing. Tune into Part 2 of this transformative special featuring Dr. Ken Redcross, where we delve into essential strategies and tips to not only prepare but thrive through the upcoming cold and flu season. A kiss can be very powerful. It can make you feel wonderful and connect you to a person – or it can really mess things up. This episode begins with some interesting intel about the power of a kiss, both good and bad. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-we-kiss/ Change is sexy and exciting – and it can also be your worst enemy. On the other hand, there are some things that never change. You can count on them. And perhaps paying more attention to things that stay the same can be a huge benefit to your life and well-being. It is likely better than trying to predict what changes are coming since humans are particularly horrible at such predictions. Here to make the case for embracing things that stay the same is Morgan Housel. He is a partner at The Collaborative Fund and author of the book Same as Ever: A Guide to What Never Changes (https://amzn.to/3SwWn6u). This is a conversation that will bring you a new perspective on how the world works and how people live. Complaining about the healthcare system is easy. Many people feel it is really hard to develop much of a relationship with their doctor when visits are so short and it's often hard to get an appointment. So perhaps it is up to us – the patients - to squeeze out as much as we can from the healthcare system to get better care and a stronger doctor/patient bond. Joining me to explain how to best do that is Ken Redcross, MD. He is author of the book, Bond: The 4 Cornerstones of a Lasting and Caring Relationship with Your Doctor (https://amzn.to/461Zh6l) and founder of Redcross Concierge, a personalized medical practice designed to enhance the patient-doctor relationship. Listen and you will be much better equipped to interact with the healthcare system. Having little kids is actually good for your immune system. In fact, the more kids the better. How can that be? Lisa is joined by Ken Redcross, MD who talks about blood sugar. His focus on developing the patient-doctor bond is a unique characteristic of his concierge services that allows for a more strategic and customized approach to each patient's healthcare plan.Blood sugar is an essential part of our overall well-being, but when it's out of balance you could face serious health risks including diabetes, heart disease, stroke and kidney disease. Having too much sugar in the blood, known as hyperglycemia or high blood glucose, is a health risk often associated with diabetes. It occurs when your body has too little insulin (the hormone that transports glucose into the blood), or if your body can't use insulin properly. A fasting blood sugar level (glucose) greater than or equal to 126 is considered too high, but not everyone will recognize the warning signs, which could damage blood vessels that are responsible for delivering blood to vital organs such as your heart, kidneys and eyes.Four easily missed warning signs that your blood sugar may be dangerously high: • Feeling Tired • Extra sugar (glucose) does not mean more energy. • The body is not able to use the excess sugar to fuel what your body needs for extra activity. • Increased Thirst • The kidneys are unable to filter excess sugar in your blood and respond by attempting to remove it — which increases the amount of time/frequency you urinate and puts you at risk for dehydration. • Trips to the bathroom may not be related to prostate health • Extra Trips to the Bathroom • Trips to the bathroom may not be related to prostate health • Changes in Vision • Elevated glucose levels can lead to damage and blockage of the blood vessels that form behind the eye (retina). • The eye tries to create new blood vessels, but they don't develop properly and can lead to a risk of becoming blind.Dr. Redcross will share three moves you can make to get high blood sugar under control including: • Taking 2-min. stroll after dinner • Walking as little as two to five minutes after a meal can lower your blood sugar, according to a 2022 study in the journal Sports Medicine. • The study found standing after a meal can help, too, but not as much as putting one foot in front of the other. • Consuming certain herbs and spices • Traditional herbs and spices are commonly used for control of glucose. • Cinnamon is a spice that consists of the dried inner bark, and is brown in color and has a delicately fragrant aroma and a warm sweet flavor. • Research has shown that adding the spice cinnamon to the diet can help to lower the glucose level. • Berberine is an herbal supplement made from a chemical compound that naturally occurs in the roots and bark of a wide variety of plants such a

Dr. Redcross shares his nearly 20 years of experience and breaks down the four cornerstone qualities that are essential to creating a life-long patient-doctor bond. Meet Dr. Ken Redcross "I discovered my passion for medicine and science in high school and thought I wanted to be a veterinarian, until I took a Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy class. I've always loved animals, but at 16, the Anatomy class was my awakening moment, and I realized it was people I had to treat." While I enjoyed working at medical practices and clinics, something was missing. Having to rush through every patient-packed day with a mere 5-7 minute time slot for each of them felt unfair to my patients and to my purpose. It took some time for me to realize that I'd have to work within a different model – or create my own — which is how the concierge concept emerged: Strategic Health Services ™." "I am a board-certified Internal Medicine physician, and I completed my medical training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in 2001. I provided care at my first job in Oxnard, California, then transitioned to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills. I launched my Concierge practice in 2007 and established Redcross Communications, Inc., under which I provide medical education through the media." Connecting. Active listening. Kindness. Accessibility. Patient-centric. "Collectively, these actions and attitudes create lasting bonds with my patients. By building a safe and trusting space, the doctor-patient bond is reinforced, opening up more opportunities for healing." Bond: The 4 Cornerstones of a Lasting and Caring Relationship with Your Doctor Why would you want to trust your life to someone with whom you don't have a personal relationship? How strong of a bond do you have with your primary doctor? Have you ever wanted to ask your doctor a question but didn't because you felt uncomfortable? Dr. Redcross is concerned that the patient-doctor bond is now on faulty ground and that healthcare happiness is much more difficult to attain. No relationship can survive for very long without trust, healthy communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to be empathetic on both sides of the stethoscope. Dr. Redcross shares his nearly 20 years of experience and breaks down the four cornerstone qualities that are essential to creating a life-long patient-doctor bond. If just one person in your household comes down with the flu, it can just take a few hours for it to spread to everyone. Can you believe it’s already time to prepare for another flu season? It feels like we just wrapped up the last one, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says it’s time to prepare for the 2018-2019 flu season now, especially coming off of a horrible season that killed more children than any other non-pandemic year on record. Dr. Bond's guest, Dr. Ken Redcross, board-certified internal medicine physician and author of Bond: The 4 Cornerstones of a Lasting and Caring Relationship with Your Doctor, says if just one person in your household comes down with the flu, it can just take a few hours for it to spread to everyone. In fact, it only takes one sick person’s cough to spread 2,000 virus-laden droplets into the air.Having a strong immune system is key to protection and keeping it clean from the inside out, including your environmental surroundings, can make the difference in whether or not you will catch flu. Dr. Redcross joins Dr. Bond to explain how tackling influenza room-by-room in your home can keep those unwanted house guests (aka: germs) from invading your space and thus lower your chances of getting sick this season. He also provides tips on what you can do to prevent the flu in the kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom (e.g. flu-fighting foods, natural disinfectant and antibacterial wipes, one-use paper towels and bedding).
