Christina Anthony plays Denise on the ABC series “Mixed-ish.” She generously gives us a fascinating inside look at working on a sit-com from the point of view of an actor who is totally new to the process. She tells the story of sitting at a table read 90 minutes after being cast on the show following years of struggling through 100+ fruitless pilot auditions, talks about how her Chicago theater roots still pay dividends in her work, getting used to the idea of rotating directors, knowing when to speak up about issues with the script, and how she’s ready to be your next action hero. Plus much more! Follow Back To One on Instagram

Andrew and Tawny sit down with the incomparable Christina Anthony (Mixed-ish) to help listeners with their racism dilemmas-- When should you dump your white friends from high school? What are the best ways to confront racist family members? How do you know when you're ready to have a Día de los Muertos party? Got a question about racism? We're here to help: 323-389-RACE.
Little did we all know that Christina Anthony's life was about to be forever changed, when she agreed to be our second test guest back in March of 2019 and sit down for coffee with us. She had just shot a backdoor pilot for a new show called Mixed-ish, but no one knew if it would be picked up. SPOILER ALERT: SHE'S SO FAMOUS NOW! But back in that moment, Christina sat on her bathroom floor in her Hollywood studio apartment and dished out hilarity and wisdom about what it means to never quit, what she'd ask Barack Obama and Mr. T if she could take them to coffee, and how she came up with her nickname for Lin Manuel Miranda. ☕️☕️☕️ Who doesn’t want free advice from people that are wildly successful and probably more good looking than we are? In most careers, mentorship is a built-in part of the process, but as theatre people, Andrew (Hamilton) and Jess (Broadway Unlocked) always wished they had more opportunity and acess. Which is exactly why each week they’re taking you to coffee with some of the most incredible folx they can find, from Broadway to TV to YouTube to Sports to Historians to Entrepreneurship. We set up the coffee date and you become a part of the podcast as our guests answer your most burning questions. All without anyone having to leave the comfort of the internet (or put pants on tbh). If you’re like us, and wish you had more access to smart, funny people who can help inspire you, this is your podcast! Friends, we're ten episodes in and that means it's time for a BONUS WEEK! Gather round for a very special commentary track episode, wherein Andrew and Jess pull back the curtain and let you listen in to the very first episode they ever recorded, with NBC Diversity Scholarship winner and actor Jermaine Blackwell. Here's a hint: It was absolute chaos. It starts with a fire alarm going off and Andrew's apartment almost catching on fire. Go us!!!! Here's the good news: We're releasing the next two test episodes as more bonus yumminess for you, and they went much better. We got to sit down with actress Christina Anthony right before she was picked up for her new show Mixed-ish (shout out to Aunt Denise!) and we sat down with Jessica Jones actor Jay Klaitz right after he had a new baby! This episode we talk with Christina Anthony about her WORST roommate-- a ghost! Spoiler: He's a fuckboi. This ghost-dude will be in-between forever until he learns how to be less of a dipshit. He probably also has depression because he never comes out of his room.
