Hun eerste single 'Have You Ever Been Mellow' werd meteen een nummer 1-hit.

In another engaging webinar with NXUnite, Jeff Porter is joined by Lauren Batterby, founder and CEO at Life Events Staffing, Scott Roseveare, president and co-founder of Risk Free Item Shop, and event consultant Tony Banks. These expert fundraisers share knowledge gained from decades in the nonprofit and charitable event industries, ensuring that your event will be engaging, profitable, and unforgettable.Several common themes emerge on key elements for a successful event. Events need a clear, realistic goal communicated effectively. Highlight the impact of donations to engage donors emotionally. By leveraging technology and compelling storytelling, we increase donor engagement. Recent years have taught us the power of remote outreach and inclusive events accessible to all audiences. Event organizers must be open to redefining traditional event norms as donor demographics continue to change. The best way to increase net profitability at an event is by focusing on what will bring in the most money versus cutting costs. As we embrace the lessons from recent years and chart a course towards inclusive, technology-driven, and emotionally resonant experiences, we unlock the potential for events that not only capture hearts but also elevate the impact of charitable endeavors.Main Topics Key elements of a successful fundraiser (02:35) The evolution of events since 2020 (09:55) Making events more engaging and profitable (16:48) Keeping fundraisers cost-effective (30:00) Offering a variety of auction items and price points (39:15) Online bidding software vs. paper bid sheets (45:20) Episode Links https://lifeeventstaffing.com https://www.riskfreeitemshop.com https://thinkcs.org/people-tony-banks If you enjoyed this episode please subscribe and leave us a review in the Apple podcasts app.Listen, rate, and subscribe!Apple PodcastsSpotifyGoogle Podcasts
In this special episode, listeners have the opportunity to tune into an insightful webinar on the trends for fundraising in the nonprofit sector moving into the new year. Moderated by Colleen Carroll, lead of NXUnite from Nexus Marketing, Jeff Porter joins the discussion with AJ Steinberg of Queen Bee Fundraising, Jennifer Rubin from 360 Philanthropy Group, and Tosha Anderson with The Charity CFO. This powerhouse of professionals with various experience in the nonprofit world delivers an abundance of information packed with wisdom and practical strategies for planning and executing successful events. Some of the key considerations for nonprofit fundraising for 2024 is to plan events at both a macro and micro level, clarifying the objective and integrating it into every aspect of the event. When it comes to long-term planning, it's important to take into account diverse donor populations, technology developments and economic trends. Detailed yearly plans provide a holistic view so that events aren't negatively impacting the success of other fundraisers. Working with board members can be both enriching and challenging. Clearly communicating an event's objective to the board is an effective way to redirect less than helpful ideas and input. Finally, utilizing analytics from each event is a strategic way to make necessary adjustments for future events. As the traditional gala is on its way out and new generations of donors seek more meaningful experiences, the approach to event planning must change. Building in flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing times provides the best environment for hosting an unforgettable fundraiser. Main Topics Key considerations for nonprofit fundraising for 2024 (04:00) Building a multi-year event plan (11:50) Lead time for event planning (19:00) Collaborating with board members in event planning (29:10) Role of data analytics (36:55) Fun ideas for Millenial or Gen Z events (42:40) Future projections for nonprofit events (48:40) Episode Links https://nxunite.com/webinars-and-panels/ https://www.queenbeefundraising.com/ https://360philanthropygroup.com/ https://thecharitycfo.com/ If you enjoyed this episode please subscribe and leave us a review in the Apple podcasts app.Listen, rate, and subscribe!Apple PodcastsSpotifyGoogle Podcasts

Jeff Porter has spent his years in Los Angeles furthering the ingenuity, creativity and drive which guided him through his collegiate career at UNLV, during which he founded the non-profit Music and Film Development Center which teaches youth about music and film production, as well as the business behind it. His passion for film, in its myriad facets, has exposed him first hand to the blood sweat and tears of running a set from the ground up as well as the countless hours spent as an editor for many projects. It is what led him to Los Angeles, working his way up from scouting films to to selling them. It was there, in a kind of baptism by fire, which Jeff learned about the distribution and financing side of film, working his way up from film scout to president. In the process; finding distribution and or financing for over fifty plus films, managing a team of film scouts, as well as a team of acquisitions executives, overseeing the logistics of several theatrical releases, in addition to cultivating relationships with all of the major domestic and international distributors. Jeff's drive and focus have been much fed by the unparalleled satisfaction of being able to help filmmakers and producers find distribution and audiences for their opuses. True to the ethos which was the impetus for his non-profit, a part of the job that brings Jeff great satisfaction, has been traveling to the different film festivals and sales markets around the globe to provide a voice and audience for independent filmmakers, as well as educating them on the nuances of film distribution, finance and business development - via panel discussions and workshops. www.porterpictures.com www.instagram.com/porter_pictures Connect with your host Kaia Alexander: https://entertainmentbusinessleague.com/ https://twitter.com/thisiskaia Produced by Stuart W. Because of their training and experience, CPAs are rightly considered the foremost providers of tax services to taxpayers. Some CPAs also serve the taxpaying public at large — with appreciation for Congress's task to enact equitable tax laws and the IRS's job to diligently and fairly administer them — by recommending improvements to both. They can do so in many ways, but in this episode, we'll explore two paths: the AICPA's volunteer tax committees and a council directly advising the IRS's top leadership — from the experience of a longtime trailblazer, Jeff Porter, CPA.

When Jeff Porter's wife Claire died of an aneurysm, his world imploded. As he spent time with her in the hospital and started to wander that imploded world after she died, he talked to her, carrying on a conversation they had shared for 27 years. He also started writing and analyzing his experience with grief. This writing led to the publication of his newest book, Planet Claire: Suite for Cello and Sad-Eyed Lovers. MJ's guest is seasoned sommelier, wine educator and founder of Volcanic Selections, Jeff Porter. Jeff has been featured in numerous major food and wine publications, such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, Eater and The Financial Times. Jeff's sommelier career began in Napa Valley, where he worked at Tra Vigne Ristorante in St. Helena. He joined the Bastianich Hospitality Group in 2009 at Osteria Mozza under the auspice of James Beard Award winning chef Nancy Silverton. In 2011 he moved to New York to become the wine director for Del Posto. In 2014, Jeff became the Beverage Operations Director, overseeing the beverage programs for Babbo, Del Posto, Esca, Lupa, Otto, Babbo Pizzeria and more. In 2019, Jeff left the Bastianich group and began his consulting career and a web series about wine, life, and culture called Sip Trip. And in 2020, Jeff opened Volcanic Selections, an import and distribution business. Outside of beverages, Jeff is an avid at-home cook, doting father, passionate traveler, and a lover of all things barbecue.Jeff's passion for food and wine comes through, literally, in this episode. Jeff is the first guest to bring a meal - burger and fries - to accompany his wine selection of A 2019 Dolcetto D'Alba and a 2013 Henskens Rankin of Tasmania Brut Rose'. Neither disappoint. Originally from Texas, Jeff understands a good meal, and it wasn't until his college days - working at a German restaurant as a dishwasher - did he start to understand wine and all its beauty and complexities. MJ and Jeff have only just begun with this conversation, tackling items one by one such as how Jeff went from a small suburb north of Dallas to the inner city of Los Angeles working as a teacher for Teach for America, right out of UT-Austin. Jeff talks about the inspiration he gained from his father who gifted him WINE by Hugh Johnson; his time at Tra Vigne Ristorante and how he learned he had one job: make people happy; essentially throwing a party each and every night. It's Part 1 with Jeff Porter, and it's a juicy one. A huge thank you to Jeff Porter! What made the internet angry this week?Jeff Porter from Fear of Science joins the podcast. Jeff tells us about his podcast and some miniatures he's been working on. The Suez Canal is blocked by the giant ship Ever Given and it's jamming up global trade. Did you know Cargo ships aren't made with the ability to reverse? Jeff and Dale trade conspiracies theories about the cargo ship. All of our stock tips are for entertainment purposes only. Jensen Karp found shrimp tails in his Cinnamon Toast Crunch and then was dismissed by the company and once the posts went viral on twitter Karp got milkshake ducked. You'll never work in this town again. No-one gets away with a dickhead past in the internet era. The editor of Teen Vogue got shit canned for tweets she made when she was 16. How long should we be held accountable for our past bullshit and is there a road to redemption. Dave Dobrik got cancelled for his shady shitty past. Man in China claiming to be Taoist master offering breast implants with ‘mind control' and witchcraft has authorities worried. Talk of Iowa host Charity Nebbe speaks with Jeff Porter, author of the new memoir "Planet Claire: Suite for Cello and Sad Eyed Lovers"
Can we ever understand the place a spouse holds in our lives? Often, that understanding comes only after the sudden and terrible loss of that person. Jeff Porter's wife, as it turned out, was the planet around which his life, in some ways, orbited. Her sudden death threw him into outer space, careening into memories, unmoored and trying to make sense of the un-sensible. His attempt to grapple with how his life would go forward without its center point led him to unexpected reaches of his own inner self. In an ongoing conversation with the brilliant, loving and solid person his wife had been, he must come face to face with what he did, didn't do and could never change about their relationship. Still in love with her, he kept the conversation going by writing Planet Claire, a memoir about his loss and the power of their life together.

Missionary Jeff Porter has spent more than two decades loving and serving the people of South Africa and Zimbabwe. I wanted to have this conversation with Bro. This was the first interview recorded for the Great Commission Conversations podcast. I appreciate Bro. In Episode 73, we welcome Jeff Porter and Barbara Schelhorn from the financial planning group, Sullivan Bruyette Speros & Blayney. We start with Jeff’s background. He was a contemporary of Meb’s at the University of Virginia. The guys share a laugh recalling running out of class to check stock quotes back in the Dot Com boom. As the conversation turns to investing and financial planning, Meb asks about changes in the industry – with the rise of robo-advisors, indexing, target date portfolios, and so on, how does Jeff, as a financial planner, continue to add value on the investment side? Jeff tells us how the aforementioned products can be great for many investors, but less so for others. For investors who need more handholding, and/or have more complex financial situations, advisors can add significant value. What follows is a great discussion on questions Jeff asks his clients as he seeks to evaluate the right market strategy for them, as well as the right implementation. There are myriad issues: what’s the best asset mix? Do you add hedges? Active or passive? Factor tilts? And so on. Jeff looks to understand what his clients need from a return perspective in order to reach their goals, as well as their ability to handle risk. This includes variables such as when will the client need to take withdrawals. This leads to an interesting conversation about those risky years shortly before and after retirement begins. If luck is against you, and the market is down in those years, it can make a huge difference in your portfolio’s balance and therefore, your retirement lifestyle. Jeff tells the story of how retiring at two different points in time led to two very different outcomes. Another question Jeff asks clients is what percentage, or dollar value, could they accept as a temporary loss in a bear market?” He tells us another story about a husband/wife client who realized they had very different answers to this question. Meb asks what’s the average answer to “how much can you stomach being down?”. Apparently, most clients say they can handle about 15-20% declines. Meb then brings up how portfolio creation and management is just one part of a person’s entire financial picture; therefore, as Jeff and Barbara think about risk and a client’s holistic financial view, where do they begin? Barbara answers this one. She tells us one of the most important things she does is help clients organize their financial lives. She accomplishes this by asking three questions: Who? What? And how much? She goes on to give us great details on what really goes into these questions. In essence, she’s helping clients gain far greater control over their financial lives. You’ll hear Meb sound a bit overwhelmed in response, noting how simply the organizational side of getting someone’s financial life in order can be massive – and that he could personally use the help. The conversation drifts toward allocating cash and savings. But one of the problems is that many investors have way too much cash sitting in accounts earning nothing. At a minimum, they could use that cash to pay down various debts or mortgages. Meb makes the point that countless investors are bad at optimizing the cash/debt equation. He says there are simple techniques to easily turn cash earning 0% into cash earning 1% per year. Meb continues to steer the conversation toward traditional financial planning topics: Social Security, retirement benefits, health and liability risks, and so on… Barbara provides some wonderful information on insurance and long-term health care. As an interesting aside, she tells us that most of her male clients don’t want to waste their money on long-term health care, while her female clients find it to be more of a need. Barbara says the reality is somewhere in between. This hardly even begins to scratch the surface of what’s covered in this episode. (It’s our longest to date!) You’ll hear about umbrella insurance policies (and why Meb could use one for some property he owns in Colorado)… The importance of proper titling of your assets and how it can protect you from litigation… Gifting loved ones with stock rather than cash to get around big capital gains… Effective financial strategies using tax bracket trends… SEP IRAs versus 401Ks vs Roth IRAs… When to start taking Social Security… And way more. And of course, you’ll hear Jeff and Barbara’s most memorable investments. While Barbara’s is interesting, Jeff’s involves a huge market loss thanks to a bad tip from a certain college friend (you guessed it – Meb was to blame). What was Meb’s bad investment advice that cost Jeff thousands? Find out in Episode 73.

In this episode, Contributing Editor Mike Schachner riffs with New York City beverage directors Pascaline Lepeltier and Jeff Porter on whether popular wine terms help or hinder our understanding of what’s in the glass.
Joe Campanale kicks off the new year in style on a brand new episode of In the Drink. He’s joined by one of the most important New York wine figures, Jeff Porter, Beverage Director at B&B Hospitality Group. Jeff was born and raised in Texas. He became interested in wine at his first restaurant job in Austin. To learn all that he could about wine, Porter eventually took a stocking position at one of Austin’s best wine shops. He excelled there and was soon buying wine for the shop and traveling throughout Europe. Porter then moved to the West Coast where he first worked for a wine distributor in the Bay Area and then served as Wine Director at Tra Vigne Ristorante in St. Helena, where his passion for wine and hospitality took off. Most recently, Jeff held the positon of Beverage Director at Osteria and Pizzeria Mozza in Los Angeles. He moved to New York City in March of 2011 to head up the beverage program at Del Posto. He is recognized as an “Advanced Sommelier” by the Court of Master Sommeliers and is currently a candidate for the “Master Sommelier” designation. This program was brought to you by Michter’s. “I always call Italy the newest oldest wine region in the world. Obviously they’ve been making wine forever but they had to figure things out. Post World War II, Italy was super poor – even through the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. It wasn’t until the 90’s that people started seeing money in wine.” [19:00] –Jeff Porter on In the Drink

About An Open Letter to a Fussy Woman at a Toll Booth Toll collection is the second oldest profession. In Greek mythology, Charon the ferryman (one of the oldest service workers) required that a toll be paid to carry souls across the rivers between here and Hades. Souls unable to pay were left to wander around for eternity searching for the damn place. This is the story of a nightmarish customer who felt entitled to a free ride across the river Styx. What it is like to work in a tollbooth (That, above, was hyperbole.) In 2005 I was in school and working at the parking ramps. I bugged them for weeks to hire me because the idea of being paid to sit alone in a booth seemed absurd and amazing. Up until then all my income was made through doing magic shows for birthdays and banquets, and I was ready for something that felt a little less exposed. Parking seemed to accommodate the level of introversion I was seeking and provided some spare time to work on a few media projects. Here is a video from that time. Personally, I feel that paying for parking is a fool’s errand, but I am also a cheapskate and have burned whole tanks of fuel hunting for a free place to ditch my car. I did not blame any of my customers for valuing convenience, however. I produced this piece in 2006 through a course in the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. The group was led by Jeff Porter, who helped me to focus in on the specifics of my fascination with the tantrum I had witnessed. This was not intended to be a strong commentary on socioeconomic separation. At the time, my perception was that the low wage working class was rather small, and that we, the members of it, were simply biding our time until becoming doctors and professors, or wealthy and imbued with clout by some other means. This was simply the affect of the times in a liberal arts town like Iowa City, and the basis on which many of us were funneled into school. Dedication I have always felt a bit of sympathy for the woman in this story. I have to assume that this was not one of her proudest moments. Perhaps she went on sabbatical to Tibet following this experience, and is a much calmer person now. Who knows? While the story is about her, it is certainly not for her. Instead it is a love letter to my friends in the service industry: the overeducated under employed, and the undereducated over employed. It is dedicated to anyone who can state, without looking, how many dollars and cents are in their wallet and bank account. To people who accept work in stations vulnerable to deprecation and demoralizing treatment. It is to any barista who has made me a beautiful design in my latte as thanks for a tip. It is to the bussing crews at buffets who turn tips over to lost and found. To the messengers and foot soldiers who show up, stand all day, and then walk to job number two. Mainly, it is to the ones who share themselves with the world, rather than assuming the world will be privileged to receive them.
