The image might paint a picture of success: traveling for work, commuting to prestigious cities, climbing the corporate ladder. But behind the suits and government consulting facade, I was drowning in stress, unhappiness, and burnout. Here's a little origin story of Classy Career Girl. The Struggle Within: Miscarriages chipped away at my hope, and the pressure to conform took its toll. I was overweight, unhealthy, and desperately seeking something more. The corporate world had squeezed the life out of me. A Leap of Faith: Deciding to prioritize my well-being and happiness was scary. I put motherhood aside (temporarily!), committed to getting healthy, and chased a burning vision. Nights and weekends were spent pouring myself into my blog, building a course, and dreaming of a different future. From Part-Time Hustle to Thriving Business: Going part-time in the corporate world felt risky, but it opened space for new possibilities. Event hosting, network talks, and 1-on-1 coaching sessions started popping up. The monthly revenue, initially a trickle, slowly grew into a steady stream. This Wasn't Just About Money: It wasn't just about financial success. I was building a community, connecting with people, and sharing my passion. Every webinar, every coaching session, was a tiny victory, a step towards the life I envisioned. Finding Balance: My journey wasn't always smooth. There were bumps, doubts, and moments of uncertainty. But the key was learning to find balance. Balancing my growing business with the joys of motherhood, carving out time for self-care, and embracing flexibility became my mantra. My Message to You: If you're feeling stuck, unhappy, or burnt out, know that change is possible. It might not be easy, but with courage, commitment, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone, you can create a life that nourishes your soul and sparks joy. My journey from the corporate ladder to career coaching and motherhood taught me that the most valuable pursuit is not defined by titles or external validation, but by the pursuit of happiness and fulfillment on your own terms. After 8 years in corporate, I was stuck. I knew I wasn't in the right career for me but had no idea what to do next. So I started a blog sharing what I wish I would have known when I first started my career. I blogged and blogged and blogged until I decided enough was enough. I was quitting my job and had to start earning some money with my side hustle. So I experimented with online courses, membership sites, books, speaking, events, sponsored posts, consulting and website advertising. And the one thing that I loved most was Career Coaching. I could make an impact on other women, answer their questions and schedule my work around my soon to be growing family. Because I was pregnant and was planning to quit my job after maternity leave. August 1, 2014 I submitted my resignation letter and the rest is history! I created my dream job and in today's podcast episode, I'm sharing WHY I love career coaching so much. You'll learn the mindset behind becoming a career coach, what a career coach does and what career coaching sessions look like. You'll also learn the fastest way to get started as a career coach and how I recommend getting your first clients. I'll teach you the tools I use to accept payment and set up my calendar. I'll also share some tools you can use to hold your career coaching sessions. Make sure you add your name to the waitlist and apply for my Career Coach Certification program so you can get the quickest start to creating a career you love where you get to impact others and work from home. A common misconception is that if you want to start a business, you have to quit your day job. But, the truth is you don't have to quit without the income coming in consistently. I worked on Classy Career Girl for 3 years before I quit my day job. At the time I quit, my business income had reached my day job income so I was safe to make the leap into entrepreneurship full-time! I built up my business as a side hustle and worked on my passion project in the evenings and weekends. I even quit after 6 weeks of maternity leave and built my business with a baby on my lap! :) One thing I learned very quickly is that when I had my day job, I needed to be able to generate multiple revenue streams quickly because I had very little time to work in my business. So today on the Classy Career Girl Podcast, I'm outlining the steps I took to create multiple streams of revenue so I had consistent income to quit my day job. In today's episode, I am sharing why creating multiple income streams is important. You'll learn how you can plan your launches for the year and how to prioritize your product ideas so you know which one to start with first. Your content will attract your ideal clients. It's about quality over quantity and knowing what your message is first. There is so much noise right now. You need to stand out. You have to put more time and thought into making it great. Why is this important? You want to elevate your brand above the rest. This will allow you to charge the price you are worth. In the beginning, it's about getting that first post up. Just start somewhere. But, if you have a post up already, I want you to be more thoughtful about your next post. Maybe take a couple more minutes to make it great rather than ok. Now you can think about it more. In the beginning, it's just getting it up and make it work. Now you might be ready for a rebrand. When CRP started, branding wasn't even a module. Now I'm at a point in my business where I know how important it is. No one else is out there doing what I do because of my brand. Brand is what will help me reach my dream and goal.

Through hard work, dedication, passion, and happiness, you can create a small empire that supports and lifts you up! It’s totally possible, even if it might seem out of your grasp right now. But that’s just what my guest, CEO of Classy Career Girl Anna Runyon, has done. When Anna left college, she started with the first job that came along, but after 8 years of consulting, she knew that something was missing. That’s when she started writing a blog… and her entire life changed. Nowadays, online business is a pretty saturated market. But it’s still possible to stand out from the crowd by being uniquely you. And it’s so important to remember that people aren’t buying what you’re selling because it’s there, they’re buying from you. Classy Career Girl has changed since Anna launched it in 2010. For her, regularly evaluating how happy you are with your business is vital for success. Because if you’re not happy, that’s going to shine through. In the same vein, that’s why you should always be passionate about what you’re doing; passion leads to confidence. Anna has built Classy Career Girl from the ground up, experimenting with different social media sites and deciding which ones work best for her. Once she established an audience and business, she created a membership site that has let her have a lot more freedom as an entrepreneur. Building a business around your family life is challenging. Anna gives us some of her best tips for balancing raising small children while creating an empire. She also lets us in on what it’s like working with her husband. What are you passionate about? How can you take imperfect action today? Do you know where your ideal audience hangs out online? In This Episode: How you can stand out from a crowded market by being yourself Why you should always be evaluating your happiness levels with your business What social media sites you should be on How you can gain and build your own confidence through passion How creating a membership site allows you more freedom as an entrepreneur What are some ways of building your business around having a family How you can balance your business and romantic relationship with your husband or loved one   Quotes: “Nothing happens overnight. It’s a lot of imperfect action and baby steps along the way.” (5:06) “Confidence really comes from also being passionate about what you’re doing. So being fulfilled and finding that career fit, too.” (16:54) “I think there’s always more fulfillment and there’s always more happiness. And there’s always more purpose that I’m exploring, too. So I don’t think I would want to be 100% fulfilled right now because then I wouldn’t know what else to do.” (31:08) Links Join the CLASS by Classy Girl Waitlist  Find Anna Runyon Online Follow Anna Runyon on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | Pinterest   Sign Up for My Free Webinar: The 5 Step Framework to Building Your Profitable Service-Based Business Join From Side Hustle to CEO on Facebook Keep up with everything Women In Business Follow me, Dr. Cortney Baker on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | LinkedIn KidsCare Home Health   Are you a female millennial entrepreneur who wants to start or scale your service-based business but not sure where to start? When I first started my blog, ClassyCareerGirl.com, in 2010, I wanted to create a place to share what I wish I would have known when I graduated from college. I was a few years out of college and feeling stuck at work and stressed out. It didn't help that I was also in debt, overweight and miserable.  I needed change badly.   I remember what it was like when I was stuck in a job I hated. I wasn't happy and fulfilled in my career and it was keeping me up at night.  I was so stuck and I would apply to jobs over and over again online with no luck. Monster.com and it was my best friend at that time even though I absolutely hated online job searching. I just didn't fit in my job.     I would literally come home crying to my husband and some weekends I just couldn't relax because all I could think of was work and how I needed to get out of there and how much I dreaded Monday and didn't want to face what was on my plate on Monday morning. I knew I had more potential than my day job.

My Website Growth Story I have been blogging at ClassyCareerGirl.com since 2010 but it wasn't until I really made the commitment to grow my website that I started to see the results. I committed to making my website no longer a hobby. Instead, it was a business. That was a big commitment I had to make and I encourage you to do the same. In 2015, our TOTAL page views for the entire YEAR were only 442,000. Right now on December 28th, 2016 average page views PER MONTH are 500,000 at Classycareergirl.com. How was I able to turn the traffic that I got in an entire year into now what I get in a month? This blueprint shares everything. I focused a lot on page views this year and still will continue to focus on this as my goal for next year is to get to over 1 million page views per month. As I write this, we hit another goal of most page views in one day of 31,641.

Do you have a clear vision of where you want to go with your career? If not, you may be wasting precious time, as tasks related to job searches can become overwhelming. Today’s guest expert, Anna Runyan, says there are three main obstacles for job seekers searching for their dream job. They are: Time: Consider what job searching tasks can be batched to save time. Plan out priorities on a calendar. Put extra effort into networking. Fear: Job seekers may fear of applying for jobs they don’t think they are qualified for. Job seekers should surround themselves with supportive network groups such as Facebook, Masterminds, and industry forums. Job Seekers need to get over the fear of networking with people they don’t know. Direction: Figure out your ideal career fit. i. Look at your previous career experiences. ii. Make a list of things you love doing, and things you do not want to do. Determine your ideal work day, and then map it out. Pro Tip — Informational interviews with people already working in the field you want to work in, can help you determine the next steps of your job search. Anna Runyan Bio Anna Runyan is the founder of Classy Career Girl, named by Forbes as one of the 35 most influential career sites of 2014.  She helps women design and launch their dream careers, businesses, and lives. Here is every action we took in our business in July 2016. What worked and what didn't work and all our lessons learned. I would love to hear and if you are enjoying this Classy Career Girl podcast, please leave a review for us on iTunes as well. I would really appreciate it, thank you!  Why am I doing this? There are a lot of bloggers out there sharing their income reports. I have decided to start a different type of monthly post, an action report. Everywhere we look online these days we hear about someone's six figure launch and how someone else made a million dollars on a course, etc. Am I the only one completely fed up with this? I have been growing an internationally recognized online career platform for 6 years. Telling you what I earn after 6 years of growing my business in detail isn't going to help you as you start a business. Why? Because the only way my business has grown each year is through ACTION and self-reflection. That's why I want to help you take the action you need to take to create the dream business for you.Your ideal business is not what I have created here. My business is created just for me. I have my own purpose, strengths, passions and mission. But, I can tell you exactly what actions I am taking to grow my business and HELP people. I can tell you what actions are working and what actions are not working. I can tell you about the struggles I am facing and what I am 100% enjoying in my business.

Today I‘d like to introduce you to one of the top digital experts that I had the pleasure to interview a few months ago in my Corporate Rescue Plan membership community. I wanted to open up this special interview with you all on the podcast because I was blown away by the amazing content she shared.  So ladies, it's my pleasure to introduce you to Vix Reitano today.   What Vix shares in this interview really helped me figure out how to better create our own social media content for our entire Classy Career Girl team, how to decrease our overwhelm by scheduling our content in advance and where to find amazing content ideas for our blog and social media. Creating your digital presence is so very important whether you are job searching or growing your own business so that is why this interview will help you unleash your digital superstar.   And since I didn't mention it in the actual interview, I wanted to also make sure that Vix wants to invite you to her next upcoming webinar and you can learn more about that at creativixmedia.com/cc-fix/ And I'll also have that link on the blog as well if you stop by and look for episode 50.
