Tune into our latest Coppercast as Shaun Fernando, Chief Risk Officer at Deribit, joins our series 'Exchanges that have nothing to hide - conversations with the ClearLoop network'. Simon Morgan and Fragkiskos Gonidis of Copper speak with Shaun about risk management frameworks, tokenisation, and the increasing efficiencies blockchain provides compared to the traditional market infrastructure.
In January of 2023, a headline from Boston Consulting Group read: The voluntary carbon market [VCM] is thriving. Their evidence? A 4-fold increase in the value of the market in the course of a year, to a valuation over $2 billion USD and growing. Nine months later, Reuters headlined a very different take: Carbon credit market confidence ebbs as big names retreat, citing the first dip in the number of credits used by companies in at least 7 years. What was causing such rapid growth in the VCM? What caused the decline? And, what is the chance of the VCM recovering? In the final episode of our 3 part examination of VCMs, we take a look at how these markets have evolved in terms of their growth and their efficacy, how they are operating right now, and what their future could look like. To shape our conversation, we are joined by a group of VCM buyers, sellers, consultants and skeptics: Katie Sierks (Microsoft), Laura Zapata (Clearloop), Dr. Colin McCormick and Alex Dolginow (Carbon Direct), and Dr. Joe Romm (Penn Center for Science, Sustainability, and the Media).Follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.Contact us at contact@climatenow.comVisit our website for all of our content and sources for each episode.

⭐ My guest today is Laura Zapata, Cofounder and CEO of Clearloop. Clearloop creates carbon solutions for organizations of all sizes, from global corporations to small businesses and educational institutions, to decarbonize the economy, expand access to clean energy, and accelerate the development of new solar projects in American communities where the greatest economic and environmental benefits can be achieved. Clearloops works in partnership with utility-scale solar developer Silicon Ranch, which acquired Clearloop in 2021. In addition, Laura is the former Head of Global Communications for Uber Eats, Press Secretary for Hillary Clinton's Presidential race in Ohio, and communications lead for other Congressional offices. ---
Laura Zapata didn't see anyone who looks, thinks, or talks like her in the renewable energy space, so she put herself there.Co-founder and CEO of Clearloop, Laura helps small and mid-sized businesses offset their carbon footprint by investing in solar projects in American communities where the greatest economic and environmental benefits can be achieved.Today Laura is sharing her mission to bring more people into the conversation about climate action, her journey through multiple careers, and how leaning into her unique voice, ideas and lived experience has enabled success.Listen to the full episode to hear:How Clearloop tackles the twofold issue of offsetting carbon emissions and bringing clean energy to underserved areasHow Clearloop determines where they build solar projectsWhy renewable energy is a social justice and equity issueHow Clearloop gets communities on board and involved in their projectsHow Laura's varied career experiences shape how she builds trust and relationships as a CEOHow Laura crafts communications that meet people where they are to bring them into the conversation about climate action Learn more about Laura Zapata:ClearloopLinkedIn: Connect with Laura, Connect with ClearloopTwitter: @LZapataTN, @clearloopUSTikTok: @clearloopusFacebook: @ClearloopUSInstagram: @clearloopLearn more about Mary Knox Miller:Thought Leader MediaConnect on LinkedIn

In previous episodes, we heard from Clearloop's founders, Laura Zapata and Bob Corney about how their company is helping businesses of all sizes reclaim their carbon footprint while also expanding access to clean energy to communities that need it most. In this episode, Laura joins the conversation again, this time with Brad Robison of the Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association and Joe Azar, Director of Economic Development for Panola County, Mississippi to discuss Clearloop's first two projects in the Magnolia State, and their mission to meet the energy and economic development needs of the communities they serve.
The power purchase agreement has done wonders for the deployment of clean energy. Corporations can offset their annual energy consumption with long-term offtake contracts for solar and wind farms. But what if that financial model doesn't work for every business—especially smaller ones that still want to make an impact? And does traditional clean energy procurement offset as much carbon as possible? There's a new player solar that thinks they can address both of those challenges. In Episode 12 of Factor This!, Laura Zapata explains the mission behind Clearloop. Show notes:-Subscribe to the free Renewable Energy World newsletter to stay up-to-date on the latest news in solar, wind, energy storage, green hydrogen, and more.Factor This! is produced by Renewable Energy World and Clarion Energy. Connect with John Engel, the host of Factor This!, on LinkedIn and Twitter.
How do you ensure a new renewable energy project is displacing fossil fuel production? How can we ensure clean energy is available to all communities, even those in the most rural areas? In the ninth episode of season three, TNZL explores the idea of emissionality (aka true impact) of a renewable energy project with Laura Zapata, CEO and Co-founder of Clearloop. During the episode Nathan and Laura discuss how she made the transition from corporate communications expert to climate tech co-founder and CEO, the importance of measuring emissionality when designing a renewable energy project, the lifecycle of a zero-carbon energy project and the math/carbon accounting behind it, and how she takes pride in representing her underrepresented community in a field traditionally dominated by white males. Laura Zapata is the CEO and co-founder of Clearloop Corporation, a Nashville-based startup that helps companies of all sizes—from established companies like Intuit and Vista Equity Partners to direct to consumer brands like Dropps—cut their carbon footprint and expand access to clean energy in the United States. Zapata made a career in crisis communications and reputation management having worked in Congress, political campaigns, and Uber. She's now helping companies reach their ESG goals with tangible climate action and ensure that the environmental, health, and economic benefits of new solar projects reach communities getting left behind. Zapata is a strong believer that solar can do more if we're intentional about the communities where we invest and is eager to work with more companies seeking to tackle their carbon footprint to tap into their growing economic power as we strive for an equitable clean energy transition. Zapata immigrated from Colombia, was raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and is a graduate of Dartmouth College. ClearLoop or ClearLoopUs on most social medias is for brands that want to reclaim their #carbonfootprint & expand access to #cleanenergy by building new #solar projects in the #USA ❌

A couple weeks ago, Elon Musk hosted Saturday Night Live, a gig typically reserved for A-list movie stars, Grammy Award winners, and stand-up legends. But Musk has risen to fame through his electric vehicle and clean energy company Tesla. Musk and Tesla have become a social, political, and cultural force in our country, driving an interest in environmental business, investing, and innovation. Through his company, Musk has put renewable energy on the map. His creations may be notoriously expensive, exclusive, and well beyond the reach of many Americans, but the movement he’s leading is growing. And mainstream investors are starting to put money behind it. When it comes to innovation and clean energy, there’s a wide range of players building new technology and sourcing terrains to scale renewables. Funding for those projects comes from a host of financiers, from banks to private equity firms to, perhaps, everyday consumers. In this episode of Connect the Dots, host Rob Verchick and his guests discuss the fiscal complexities of successfully transitioning to renewable energy and achieving energy justice. They note that the newfound drive to do so results from a dedicated consortium of political agendas, business prerogatives, and consumer demand. When the stakes get high, supply moves fast, and hopefully, it moves forward to a clean, equitable energy future for us all. Joining host Rob Verchick in this episode are: Lawrence Early, engineering graduate at Yale University Pete Hellwig, co-founder of Atmos Alice Kaswan, CPR Board Member and professor and associate dean at the University of San Francisco Hannah Wiseman, CPR Member Scholar and professor at the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and Institutes of Energy and the Environment at Penn State University Laura Zapata, founder and CEO of Clearloop
