Watch this episode on YouTube Let's face it. Our culture values youth, beauty, and in the running world, speed. We train to get faster, stronger, and to cross that finish line just a little quicker than we did last time. The good news is that if you picked up running as an adult, even at an age where you are past your biological physical prime, you can grow muscle and run faster with good training and nutrition. And you can keep improving for years, possibly even decades. But if you've been running your whole life and were well-trained at your physical peak, you will eventually slow down with age. Paces that once seemed easy for you will become harder and harder. Race finishing times will get slower and slower. And you will find that recovery from training and racing takes longer and longer. It's enough to depress even the most upbeat masters runner into hanging up your running shoes and settling for life in a rocking chair. In this episode, we are going to have a conversation about running and aging exceptionally with master's runner Cynthia Miller. You'll learn: About how Cynthia started running in her first pair of waffle soled Nikes, How her passion for running has only grown despite the normal effects of getting older, and How changing her perspective about what's truly important in life and in running helps bring her joy and meaning, no matter what her race times are now. Cynthia shares moving and inspiring stories about how her running has evolved over the years and how it keeps her feeling young even at almost 70 years old. So if you plan to run as long as you possibly can, but are struggling with the downsides of getting older, this is one you don't want to miss. And you'll definitely want to check this one out on YouTube because you are not going to believe how youthful Cynthia looks. Welcome to the Planted Runner. "Why do people hate each other? Why do people kill each other?" These are the questions that a young Cynthia Miller was asking herself. Cynthia is an old mystic crone, a scribe, transmitting ancient secrets in everyday language. She has traversed an incredible expanse of collective trauma in her own body, and built a map that she used to reclaim her voice, her sovereignty, and her multi-dimensional wisdom expressed through her human form. Cynthia's maps hacks the deep neural programming as held in all 12 dimensions revealing both the depth of our human imprisonment in fear, as well as the way through to living our freedom. This interview is filled with background stories (she's lived a very colored life), a sneak peak at the map that was just released in her latest book The Inner REvolution. She speaks about the precipice we are standing on determining two fates for humanity. One is inclusive, fully dimensional and new. The other is a descent further into our separation and fear. Feel the possibility of moving beyond hierarchy into a inclusion on all dimensions through this informative and inspiring conversation. Christian nationalism is a kind of con game. And of all the authors examined in this podcast, the one most likely to appreciate that con would be Richard Marsh, author of the 1897 horror novel The Beetle. A one time con artist himself, Marsh treats the gender fluidity of his shapeshifting monster as a con game, a scam that defrauds God himself. Today, we're going to talk about how The Beetle's view of transgenderism illuminates the complex of hate, fear, and fascination with which Christian nationalists tell some of their most vicious lies: the ones about LGBT+ people. One out of every 10 young people between the ages of 16 and 24 is neither working nor in school. These “disconnected” young people face an uphill battle finding work and are at risk of economic hardship well into adulthood. Although there are many programs that aim to reconnect young people to education and employment, findings from evaluations of these programs have been mixed. The evidence base has grown substantially in the past several months, though, as studies of three programs — YouthBuild, Year Up, and New York City’s Young Adult Internship Program (YAIP) — have released new findings. MDRC’s Dan Bloom and Cynthia Miller recently wrote a brief that discusses findings from the new studies and their implications for youth programs.
