I love Delta Air Lines. It's my favorite airline. Please understand that. Now, that said, when I was a kid, their tagline was ‘We love to fly and it shows.'I would see the tagline on TV ads. I would see it on giant posters in the airport. And then I would get on the plane. And even as a kid I could tell…the people working on the airplane, are not the ones that wrote the jingle. So I love this lesson from a podcast guest application – Your brand is only as strong as your frontline experience. To hear the story behind that lesson, along with many more lesson-filled stories, I sat down with Melissa Archer-Wirtz, CEO, Century 21 Circle [https://c21circle.com/].Lessons from the things she madeYour brand is only as strong as your frontline experienceChange management isn't about being right – it's about being clearPeople don't fear change – they fear confusionCulture is built through relationships, not policiesYour integrity is your most valuable assetYou don't have to be the loudest voice in the room to be the most effective leaderDiscussed in this episodeAdvertising and Brands: Details matter, know when to quit, …be nice (podcast episode #27) [https://marketingsherpa.com/article/interview/advertising-and-brands]Marketing: It's not about you, and when you make it about you, you are never going to succeed (podcast episode #53) [https://marketingsherpa.com/article/interview/marketing-not-about-you]Cybersecurity Marketing: You don't need to scare people to sell them security (podcast episode #136) [https://marketingsherpa.com/article/interview/cybersecurity]500 Mangled, Stretchy Rubber Guys: Make sure you have the right marketing partner for your super creative plan – Podcast Episode #3 [https://marketingsherpa.com/article/interview/direct-mail-podcast]Adaptive Leadership: It's never too late to reinvent yourself (podcast episode #90) [https://marketingsherpa.com/article/interview/adaptive]Transform your intellectual property into a revenue engine…in just daysHow I Made It In Marketing is brought to you by MeclabsAI, MarketingSherpa's parent company. In just 21 days, you can pilot your first AI-powered product with MeclabsAI [https://meclabsai.com/]Subscribe for more tactics that turn content into closed businessSubscribe to the MarketingSherpa email newsletter [https://www.marketingsherpa.com/newsletters] to get more insights from your fellow marketers. In a fiery segment, Sal and BT dissect the flaws of both the Yankees and Mets, despite a recent Yankees' win. They argue that both teams are "busted" and a "mangled mess" of poorly spent money, with a staggering $640 million payroll between them. The discussion also touches on the absurdity of a Muppets exhibit as a metaphor for the state of New York baseball, and BT questions the significance of Pete Alonso breaking the Mets' all-time home run record, which he sees as more a reflection of the team's historical futility than a true milestone.
About a week ago, a team of engineers and fishing enthusiasts debuted a new product on Kickstarter with modest expectations. It's understandable; a little more than 40% of projects launched on the crowdfunding platform reach their funding goals, and about 15% fail to raise a single dollar.

Host by Brian Jacobsen, Chief Economist.
In this week's episode of Urban Valor, we sit down with U.S. Army veteran Denny Giamazzo, who was raised in Worcester, Massachusetts, Denny faced unspeakable abuse—abandoned by his drug-addicted mother, burned with cigarettes, and left alone for days as a young child. After entering foster care, he found brief moments of hope, but the scars of his past never left him.Denny opens up about nearly dying during Army basic training after a routine wisdom tooth extraction went horribly wrong, landing him in the ICU. He later deployed to Afghanistan, where he was forced to pull mangled bodies from trucks and survive gunfire in exposed overwatch positions. Now a mental health advocate, Denny speaks candidly about his struggle with PTSD, self harm thoughts, and how he's working to rebuild his life through veteran brotherhood and mentorship.

Well, Danny* has been on our minds lately, somewhat due to working this past Venice Film Festival Immersive as a World Hop tour guide and the cacophony and fun chaos around being an Immersive Tour Guide. Our pal, Manglebird, is the programmer in chief for the Venice Immersive World Hops, primarily on the social VR platform VRChat. VRC allows artists, creatives and Devs to create and publish worlds and experiences to the VRChat global community. From DJ-driven club scenes, deep, immersive, otherworldly environments, and extra-terrestrial realms to physics-breaking realities! You name it; it can likely be found on VRChat. So it is also likely no coincidence that Manglebird's primary avatar is the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland....just a bit demented, looking like they've spent too much tea time with the Mad Hatter. ;) VRChat psychedelia - also known as Shaders, VFX are wild, like taking psychedelics without the nausea and hangover. Anywho, Nanotopia here playing with Euclidean rhythms, sub-harmonics and the lovely Shakmat Dual Dagger filter with the System80 Jove filter. Here is our stab at some form of Psy. Enjoy! *Danny and the Camberwell Carrot from Withnail & I :) released October 18, 2023 on Bandcamp

Send us a textThis week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, Former Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters was finally sentenced for breaking into her own county's election equipment to try and prove the big lie; was justice served? The Vice Presidential debate was the veep of debates; we ask, “Will it matter”? Maybe one of the answers is “only if the president ends up looking pretty old!” Then, SURPRISE! it's October! With only 30-ish days left in the most important election of our lives, what effect will a new, damning indictment of Donald Trump have on the election? And, we dig into the most competitive congressional race in Colorado just a few weeks before voters get their ballots in the mail.

Thundering repetition of muzzle flashes, shattered glass and motorcycles roar. Bodies leap and roll, defying gravity. Mangled storylines cut and paste, cloth made to fit the boy. A rare spice. Across the ocean, hungry bank accounts smack their lips and wonder how to get a taste of that exotic recklessness. It will not be. "Give a guy a gun, he thinks he's Superman. Give him two and he thinks he's God."

Noah Presgrove, a 19-year-old, was found by the roadside on Hwy 81 in Terral, Oklahoma on Labor Day 2023. Initially deemed a hit-and-run, the authorities quickly shifted their focus to a suspicious death investigation. Noah had been at a 4-day party when he died, and both authorities and his family have been told conflicting stories about the events of that weekend. His manner of death is currently undetermined and the search for the truth is ongoing. In S2E1 we met Rogan Taylor, author of The Death and Resurrection Show a book which traces a path from popular entertainment to the darkened yurts of our nomadic ancestors. After writing this book Rogan went on to pioneer the world's first post-graduate ‘football' degree and write many books on the subject. During our conversation he talked about football in relation to myth, ritual, suffering and community. It's a unique and fascinating perspective on the sport that will stay with you.

Gregg Jarrett, author of Trial of the Century and a Fox News Legal Analyst, covered, and was a correspondent in 2001 during the Second Intifada…reporting from Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank. Gregg covered many of the worst Palestinian attacks and bombings by Hamas. He went on to interview the parents of a suicide bomber who told him how proud they were of their murderous son. They pointed to their younger child and boasted that he, too, would soon be a dead bomber who will kill Israelis. Jarrett was there during the tragic events at Ben Yehuda Plaza immediately after twin homicide bombers blew up 11 kids and wounded 188 young people. Mangled bodies and rivers of blood running down the cobblestones. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Bible Reading: Ephesians 4:29; James 3:5-10"Look what Otis did!" Maria showed her father her soggy, torn slipper. "I scolded him and put him outside.""I'm sorry, honey," Dad said as he took the mangled slipper. "I can see that little puppy needs a lot more training."Mom spoke from the doorway. "Maria, Iris is on the phone for you." She held out her phone.A few minutes later, Maria's voice boomed from the kitchen. "You always want me to do all the work, Iris. You're so lazy! I'm never doing a school project with you again.""What was that about?" asked Mom when Maria returned her phone. "I thought Iris was your best friend.""She…she just caught me at a bad time," mumbled Maria."Did your sister catch you at a bad time too?" asked Mom. "I heard you yell at her this morning."Maria blushed. "She always bothers me when I'm tired. But I told her I was sorry." Maria brightened. "I'll call Iris back and apologize to her."Just then Otis whined at the door. "I think Otis wants to come in and apologize too," said Dad, handing the chewed-up slipper to Maria.Maria looked at it. "Don't let him in," she grumbled crossly. "My slipper is ruined because of him."Dad nodded. "You know, Maria, even if you forgive Otis and let him in, it won't fix your slipper. That's mangled for good." "I know that," said Maria. "That's why I'm mad at him!""Well, feelings can be mangled just like your slipper," said Dad. "Once you've said something, it really can't be taken back. You can be sorry and say so, but the words have already hurt. Often there is no way to repair the damage.""That's right," said Mom. "There are several people you need to apologize to, but even if they forgive you, you've still hurt their feelings. You need to be more careful to control your tongue and not say hurtful things in the first place.""But I…I don't know how," said Maria."Think before you speak," said Dad. "When you feel angry, count to ten before you say anything. Most of all, remember that Jesus gives you the ability to love others the way He does. Trust Him to help you speak in love, not anger." -Harriett A. DurrellHow About You?Do you say things you don't mean? It's so easy to do. The Bible has a lot to say about how much trouble your tongue can cause. It also gives the cure--let the love of Christ in your heart control what you say. If you've had trouble controlling your tongue, apologize to those you've hurt. Then use your words to encourage others and solve problems in a loving way.Today's Key Verse:The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. (NIV) (Proverbs 12:18)Today's Key Thought:Use your words in a loving way
This phrase popped up early in our conversation as we poked around the dumpster fire of David's livestream efforts in last week's podcast. It may be a bit insensitive. But we took a few moments to unpack it anyway since…well…it seemed like a pathway we could enjoy giggle-skipping along in the company of Jesus. After all, as Irish poet Nick Laird wrote, "Time is how you spend your love."
