On SEO Conspiracy, we will keep on pounding about Domain Authority as one of the biggest myth about Search Engine Optimization for Google. Everybody knows it was a score invented by Moz.com, but the issue is a little bit more complicated than that. If you deal Domain Authority, your analysis will be flawed. Even if you want to use magic potion by SEO druids, please don't do it on the domain level. Everything happens on the page level. Once a SEO starts to put in motion a mindset around this simple shift, amazing things start happening. Take the Web, take Google, take SEO URL by URL and you will start to understand how things work. Who is in relation to what and why is the key, but it's not happening on a domain level. There are signals of authority and trust analyzed by Google, but we are getting into entity territory. Certainly not anything to deal with Domain Authority. At least, if those guys would have some kind of scientific approach, it could be interesting. Cloaking is not strictly a Black Hat SEO tactic. Of course, there is a Google Guidelines compliant way to use cloaking and the other way. Cloaking is a simple technique that allows to present a different page, depending on the user. Traditionally, it is use to present one page to the human user and another one to GoogleBot and other Search Engine Crawlers. As long as you don't touch one comma of the content, it's not possible to receive a Google penalty for cloaking. Even if you do modify the content, it will be fine. Since I started doing SEO in 2004, .Edu and .Gov domain extensions always were targeted by SEO. Supposedly, they are better valued by Google. IMO the Domain Extension is not related to the potential power of the website. Since the websites that use a .Gov and .Edu are most likely to receive quality backlinks, I guess the magic of SEO myths did the rest. Latent Semantic Analysis and Latent Semantic Indexing are very interesting algorithms. However, we know they are not used by Google for the Search Engine. They are in the Core of Adsense algorithms, but they are not relevant for organic search. Moreover, they are not made to extract "keywords" in any way shape of form. Some SEO Tools came out with the concept of extracting LSI Keywords, in order to improve your content if you include them into the text. Backlinks analysis is part of the data we must explore. The tool you choose to analyze backlinks will determine how well you can put the right Search Engine Optimisation strategy to rank on Google SERP. This is only my opinion, but my choice goes to Majestic.com. I have been using Majestic since it was born. Especially when it comes to backlinks, many SEO tools invent metrics like Domain Authority. Since Domain Authority is a pure SEO myth we covered with Dixon Jones on SEO Conspiracy, I can't advocate a tool that uses some magic sauce invented by an SEO Tool. On the other hand, Majestic focuses on Pagerank, which is a real algorithm used by Google. Furthermore, Majestic has been crawling the Web for a very long time. Domain Authority is a SEO Myth. Nothing backs up the idea that authority signals are linked to a domain. Since Google interprets the Web from a URL level, it makes no sense to analyse anything on a Domain level. Change the perspective. Analyse everything from a URL level. Dixon Jones with Jason Barnard at BrightonSEO September 2019 Dixon Jones talks with Jason Barnard (The Brand SERP Guy) about the bias in the Knowledge Graph. Jason and Dixon Jones are sitting in two comfy armchairs, looking at the sea in Brighton. We start with a chat about machine learning in Google's search algorithm, PageRank and then onto the Knowledge Graph. There are less entities in the world than webpages. So Google's job is easier. But the Knowledge Graph is biased – the seed set for google's understanding is a bunch of librarians (aka Wikipedia editors) who have little in depth knowledge on the topics they edit, especially in anything that is not within their culture. We happily grab examples from the surrounding environment. Piers become a central point, and piers in Ethiopia in particular. We move onto fan sites, that are not necessarily accurate, and perhaps people believe that William Shatner is a space man. Errors such as that at the start of a seed set will mean learning is biased and perhaps inaccurate… and can quickly spiral out of control. They are building on what Dixon calls ‘areas of light', but that is biased too. One problem is that genuinely good new ideas are going to have trouble surfacing because of the bias against ideas that are not popularly held belief. We move onto loops of truth and self-fulfilling prophecies. Fake news gets a look in (of course). As does bad fact checking. Then we finish off with InLinks – Dixon's super new SaaS for automatically building internal knowledge graphs and writing scheme.org structured data on the fly. I ask a trick question, and Dixon deals with it rather well. And we end by coining the phrase ‘The Wikipedia model'.
