No, really, he means it. Father Christmas is busy, and so is Professor Tolkien, as Christmas of 1925 approaches. Holding down two jobs, writing the beginnings of Middle-earth mythology, moving house, and being the father to three boys ages 8, 5, and 1. Whew, I'm tired just writing that. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5854727/advertisement

Over the weekend was the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla. It was a day long ceremony that included all the pomp and circumstance you'd expect. The British monarchy is basically only exist because the main source of tourism for the country. As we watched everyone dressed up in their Halloween costumes, droning on for hours and hours, we wondered…is the royal family this most boring thing people say they care about???

Closing out the year in grand style as I deliver the final podcast of 2022. Make sure you get your sports fix right here as this is what's on deck: (3:25) There were a lot of interesting developments over the past few days in the NFL leading up to the final Sunday of 2022. Carson Wentz has been inserted as the starter again in Washington with destiny in their hands for the postseason. Will he be able to push the Commanders into the NFC playoffs? Nathaniel Hackett was fired after the Christmas debacle in LA vs. the Rams. No surprise there as he was awful from day one. Derek Carr has been benched by Raiders coach, Josh McDaniels for the remainder of the season. Is this the end for the Vegas quarterback? JJ Watt will retire at season's end from the NFL. A future Hall of Famer? Yes. An automatic top defensive lineman of all time? Hmmm. I'll go through the intriguing matchup of the weekend (i.e. Miami-New England, Carolina-Tampa Bay, Minnesota-Green Bay, among a few others) and share some thoughts on what could take place as we're ten days away from the end of another NFL season. Dreadfully, I'll go through my over/under win totals for the year, which wasn't anything to write home about. In fact, one of my picks was an embarrassment! (28:39) We finally get to the College Football Playoff, which will kick off on Saturday. Does TCU have a shot to upset Michigan? Is this Michigan's year, based on their semifinal loss last year? Can the Georgia machine be slowed down? What about Ohio State and their chances to dethrone the defending champions? I'll preview both games, what to possibly expect and predict who'll play for the National Championship Monday, January 9th? (38:59) Don't look now, but the Brooklyn Nets are the hottest team in the NBA. Kevin Durant is playing at an MVP level. Kyrie Irving has been huge in some fourth quarters lately. They've been healthy recently. Is this the team that we've come to expect to being close to or at the top of the Association? There were a couple of big time blown leads over the past few nights. The Clippers came back and won, trailing by 14 with three minutes to go in Detroit. And the Mavericks had to overcome a nine point deficit with 33 seconds to go on the back of Luka Doncic's historic triple double (60 pts., 21 rebounds, 10 assists). Devin Booker is out of the lineup for at least four weeks with a groin strain as the Suns try to tread water without their All-Star guard. (49:09) The Bruins continue their torrid play on the ice. They're on pace for 60 wins and 130 points as they disposed the Devils last night. But the Hurricanes are also hot, winners of nine straight. And the Capitals have also gotten in a little groove in the Metropolitan Division as they've been streaking on the road (six in a row) and have won 10 of 11 overall. (52:16) What is the latest with Carlos Correa officially becoming a New York Met? I have some thoughts on when we can possibly get some closure on this. Plus a couple of signings (Nathan Eovaldi, Corey Kluber) and the Braves sign Sean Murphy which reinforces how Atlanta is building their team...the right way! (56:34) I send a shout out to YOU! I thank you all for supporting and following me throughout the past year. It goes without saying, how important your participation is and will be moving forward. Nothing got past the beady-eyes of the censors, who decided a book about literary celebrity was indecent. The vigilantes who policed the bookshops were equally sharp, initiating a prosecution when ‘Cakes and Ale' was on sale openly. It's subtitle was ‘The Skeleton in the Cupboard' hinting that it is about a dirty shameful secret. It's a great tease isn't it – what is the skeleton and who's keeping the cupboard under lock and key?Apparently, Hugh Walpole recognised himself immediately in Alroy Kear. He sat up all night reading it, in tears, with one sock on.In August 1931, C. O'Keeffe a Cork bookseller, was summonsed for ‘exposing a prohibited book for sale'. Ever wonder what staying "dry" for years without AA would feel like? My guest on today's show is Julie H., a woman whom I've known for many years through a variety of meetings we've attended. As is often the case in many AA friendships, my knowledge of Julie's story was limited to her brief shares and a little chit-chat after the meetings. For better or worse, I assumed that her 38+ years of sobriety were indicative of consistent participation in the Program. However, when I interviewed her, I was surprised to find out that, after getting sober , she'd spent more than 22 of those 38 years only marginally involved in AA or sometimes not at all. Her infrequent interaction with the Program, plus self-will were enough to keep her dry, "so-dry-ety" a friend of mine calls it. But the happiness and enrichment of contented sobriety through AA eluded her. Dreadfully unhappy, yet dry, Julie finally came to the higher-powered realization that she needed AA on a regular basis if she was ever going to be able to really enjoy her life. As a result, she re-engaged with the Program through regular meeting attendance, sponsorship, book studies, and daily service work. Her renewed commitment to AA and the fellowship have helped Julie build a life of contented sobriety. Julie's story is especially important for anyone who has contemplated getting sober in AA and then dis-engaging after a period of time to just stay dry. The Big Book is chock-full of stories of people who left the Program and stayed dry. Their dry-a-logues are tails of eventually getting drunk, or living dry, desperate lives of discontentment and loneliness. But for many of them, like Julie, returning to the rooms and the Program restored the key to many doors of contentment in sobriety and enjoyment of every day life. I'm beholden to Julie for bringing us her unique story. It's one that both active and non-active AA members need to hear and share with others. It shows what life can be like if we let up on AA's vigorous Program of action. So, please invite a friend to join you for the next hour as you listen to the vital words of my friend and AA sister, Julie H. Check out Howard's Big Book Podcast, the complete unabridged audio version of the First and Second Editions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Big Book Podcast is an engaging cover-to-cover, word-for-word reading of all 11 chapters and Personal Stories, many of which were left out of the Third and Fourth Editions. Subscribe for free on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Or listen on https://bigbookpodcast.com [Disclaimer: In strict adherence to A.A.'s traditions, my anonymous guests and I speak for ourselves only, not for Alcoholics Anonymous at large. We share only our personal experiences with A.A. recovery. We acknowledge that AA's sole concern is the recovery and continued sobriety of those alcoholics who turn to the Fellowship for help. As members of AA, our primary purpose is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics achieve sobriety. – Howard L.]

Do you enjoy a good challenge or do you prefer casual experiences? Are you the type of person that pumps the difficulty to the highest settings or do you bump it down due to time constraints? Have you ever bounced off a game because you simply couldn't progress? We've all experienced the effects of a developers decision to provide difficulty options in video games, for good and for ill. In this week's episode, I chat with three people with unique perspective on this topic using Metroid Dread as a starting point for the conversation.Starring: Blue Williams aka @wrytersviewAndrew CraigJoe Coiro

Tonight's special guests are is Steven & Meghan Bratcher from Owensboro, Kentucky, loving parents who are at their wits end over what to do about the institutional abuse their two young boys have experienced. Steven says, "I am reaching out to the public in a desperate plea for help as my entire life has unraveled before my eyes." Meghan tells us they ".. want to end the systematic corruption in family court and CPS. When loving parents have their children removed from them we cannot protect them as we would or should be able too." What happened to them is a parent's worst nightmare. One day Meghan slipped and fell while holding their youngest son. Dreadfully, she landed on top of him. The ER found the child had suffered a skull fracture. Both boys were removed from the family. "The state refuses to return my oldest son to me because I am a veteran," Steven says, "and they are not sure of my mental capacity to father them right now. I do not suffer from PTSD." Neither does Steve have any mental disorders. "My oldest son Daniel has had several bruises and questionable injuries since being in the care of foster parents and CPS." The younger boy, Ethan, was medically cleared of his original injury but he'd been incubated using an adult size ventilation tube. It resulted in him having to have a trachea and feeding tube. He also endured a broken femur in medical care, yet they are pinning that on Steve's wife as well. "This is my cry for help," he says. "I just need someone to help me, where I seemingly cannot help myself."

It all started with family for Bill Vanderheyden, the Co-Founder and Lead Engineer of Iron Will Broadheads. His grandfather and father had long been telling of the adventure to be found from within the Wisconsin woodland. Bill’s love of the outdoors paralleled his affinity for math and science, especially physics, which led him to become a mechanical engineer. He has earned a total of 50 patents throughout his career. All the while, his passion for the outdoors continued to grow, with ever more time spent hunting and exploring remote locales. Since moving to Colorado in 1999, Bill began supplementing his whitetail hunts with backcountry elk hunts. Finally, in 2004, after many years of hard work with no payoff, it all came together and he shot a nice bull. Dreadfully, the broadhead apparently hit the back edge of the shoulder blade and penetrated only a few inches and the bull was never recovered. This incident led to wanting more out of a broadhead. The pursuit began by analyzing the physics behind every aspect of the shot and reading scientific studies. Current broadhead offerings were researched, purchased, and thoroughly tested. Bill was looking for a broadhead that would achieve maximum penetration, pass through bone undamaged, maintain a razor sharp edge, and fly great at long distances. Every broadhead tested fell short in one or more of these areas. Frustrated with the offerings, he decided to engineer his own broadhead. Over 7 years later, numerous field tests, computer simulations, material tests, all resulted in a long-range shooting broadhead that maximizes penetration, durability, and lethality. A broadhead we all now know as Iron Will. In this episode we cover: Bill’s Story Time line from idea, to drawing, to actual product in hand Broadhead accuracy Performance in wind Decision to go with bleeder blades What is up next for Iron Will And A lot more More From Bill: Instagram: @ironwilloutfitters Website: ironwilloutfitters.com More From US: YOUTUBE: ‘Archery Maniacs’ Our YouTube channel consists of ‘Hunting’ videos, ‘Gear Reviews’, ‘How To’ videos, ‘Bloopers’, ‘Kill Shot Compilations’, and more. Do we see, or witness, or experience, a wave of God’s grace and immediately run off to spend it? Do we respond to a prompting of God’s spirit by jumping into action, running off to Home Depot for lumber or to Target for Christmas gifts or to the kitchen to clean up, or make a casserole? I wonder if we might be cutting off the Holy Spirit, if we might be curtailing God’s hand. Not that we wield so much power as to derail almighty God, but like toddlers, I’m afraid we might get up and start running around before the conversation is over, before God is finished speaking.

Greetings, Ghost Team, Go! listeners! It is I, the ever-silent and ever-present audio engineer, Phileas. Jack & Nick have gotten themselves lost in time and space once more, so this week we're re-releasing an old episode to bring in the new year! Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? I agree, but it's not my problem, I am merely the engineer/resident skeleton vampire of this incredible podcast. So get ready to get back on the weekday grind as Jack & Nick interview Devon and Devon, two ghostly businessmen who are way cooler than them. What is a CPA? Is mixing cocaine and opium safe? And how hard is Mega Man 3? Find out on this double-ghostly episode of Ghost Team, Go! Jack & Nick will be back with a brand new episode next week. Dreadfully yours, -Phileas T. Ombstone FEATURING Josh Rosen (@JoshRosen1) as Devon and Pete Mutino (@PrisonPete) as Devon.
Greetings, Ghost Team, Go! listeners! It is I, the ever-silent and ever-present audio engineer, Phileas. Jack & Nick are out of commission, so this week we're re-releasing what is, in my opinion, truly the most horrid episode of this truly horrid podcast. That's right, it's the hideous return of "Live from a Blizzard," the episode where Jack & Nick interview the ghost of a mime. To you, the listener, it might even sound like they couldn't get a guest at all! Personally, I find this episode extremely offensive. If they were willing to interview a guest who can't talk, I'm right here! I'm not a ghost, but surely they could interview me on a bonus episode? I've been doing every episode with them for almost two years, and half the time it feels like they and their guests have forgotten I'm even here! Anyway, I digress. If you've heard this episode before, get ready to revisit the horror. If you haven't heard it before, get ready to be taken into the heart of a blizzard, where Jack & Nick interview a dead mime and learn all about survival skills and snow-stuff. If you've never listened to an episode of this podcast before, please, please, don't start with this one. Start with last week's! Jack & Nick will be back with a brand new episode next week. Dreadfully yours, -Phileas T. Ombstone
Episode 5 now available! Featuring Chapters 7 & 8, The Mad Tea-Party and The Queen's Croquet-Ground
In Episode 43 of For All You Kids Out There, we have some Spring Training news to round up, so round it up we shall. Amed Rosario is getting some early positive buzz, as is Marcos Molina. Michael Conforto sure looks healthy, which means he is probably good again. Jay Bruce is playing first base. It's real, not just Terry in March (although it is technically still Feburary).
