In 1989, Julie had a radical awakening. Her conscious experience changed indefinitely via shaktipat (energetic exchange of spiritual knowledge) in a lucid dream experience. She was gracious enough to join me on the podcast to share her fascinating experiences, heartfelt wisdom, and warm expertise. She's a spiritual coach, author, teacher, and she also supports people going through kundalini awakenings. She has a podcast and youtube show called “Talking True” - and she works with those trying to manage and initiate change or direction in life. Julie shares a wonderful series of stories that lay out her spiritual experiences as a seeker. We also talk about meditation, Julies book-writing process, synchronicity, the self, manifestation, dreamworlds, awakening, psychic phenomena, avatar encounters, profound teachings, awakening, kundalini, shaktipat, yogis, changes after awakening experiences, spiritual maturity, the future of spiritual teachings, Julies Podcast 'Talking True', and much more. “I was always looking for someone who I knew could speak to the truth of who I was beyond the story.”“We walked in the back of the hall, and as soon as I entered into this space - I saw a Yogi, sitting cross-legged on a low wooden tucket at the front of the hall he had his eyes closed, he was wearing a white loincloth, he had a massive belly. And I recognized him immediately as being the one I had been searching for my entire life.”If you dig the episode, hit like and subscribe - and checkout julies work here - Julies books on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Julie-Hoyle/author/B08LQPSVZ7?ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true'Enlightenment Myth Busting - Seeing Through The Lies That Bind''An Awakened Life - A Journey Of Transformation''Meeting the Shadow Finding Your Self - A Handbook On How To Transform The Dark Side Of Your Personality''Living An Awakened Life''The Shadow Work Diaries - How The Darkness You Fear Holds The Treasure You Seek''Wake Up And Say Yes! - A Practical Guide To Lucid Living & Lucid Dreaming'& 'The Sacred Wisdom Journal Series' (guided writing journals)Connect with Julie here:
Hypnosis is everywhere on the Internet- either covertly like ASMR or overtly, where people are enticed to learn hypnosis or NLP, a version of Ericksonian hypnosis. My guest is the lead editor of a comprehensive textbook on clinical hypnosis. Still, it also includes two chapters I co-authored with law professor emeritus Alan Scheflin on the dark side of hypnosis, which includes MK-Ultra. The newly published Routledge International Handbook of Clinical Hypnosis is a compendium of state-of-the-art neuroscience focusing on practice-oriented aspects of clinical hypnosis in healthcare settings. It contains the work of 90 contributors from the global field. Dr. Julie H. Linden, Ph.D., was the lead editor. Julie spoke about the continued increased interest in medicine surrounding clinical hypnotic techniques. We discussed how important and beneficial that could be when prescribing physicians and their ability to offer patients alternatives or integrative therapies for traditional pharmaceutical-based treatment plans, such as pain management.

Ever wonder what staying "dry" for years without AA would feel like? My guest on today's show is Julie H., a woman whom I've known for many years through a variety of meetings we've attended. As is often the case in many AA friendships, my knowledge of Julie's story was limited to her brief shares and a little chit-chat after the meetings. For better or worse, I assumed that her 38+ years of sobriety were indicative of consistent participation in the Program. However, when I interviewed her, I was surprised to find out that, after getting sober , she'd spent more than 22 of those 38 years only marginally involved in AA or sometimes not at all. Her infrequent interaction with the Program, plus self-will were enough to keep her dry, "so-dry-ety" a friend of mine calls it. But the happiness and enrichment of contented sobriety through AA eluded her. Dreadfully unhappy, yet dry, Julie finally came to the higher-powered realization that she needed AA on a regular basis if she was ever going to be able to really enjoy her life. As a result, she re-engaged with the Program through regular meeting attendance, sponsorship, book studies, and daily service work. Her renewed commitment to AA and the fellowship have helped Julie build a life of contented sobriety. Julie's story is especially important for anyone who has contemplated getting sober in AA and then dis-engaging after a period of time to just stay dry. The Big Book is chock-full of stories of people who left the Program and stayed dry. Their dry-a-logues are tails of eventually getting drunk, or living dry, desperate lives of discontentment and loneliness. But for many of them, like Julie, returning to the rooms and the Program restored the key to many doors of contentment in sobriety and enjoyment of every day life. I'm beholden to Julie for bringing us her unique story. It's one that both active and non-active AA members need to hear and share with others. It shows what life can be like if we let up on AA's vigorous Program of action. So, please invite a friend to join you for the next hour as you listen to the vital words of my friend and AA sister, Julie H. Check out Howard's Big Book Podcast, the complete unabridged audio version of the First and Second Editions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The Big Book Podcast is an engaging cover-to-cover, word-for-word reading of all 11 chapters and Personal Stories, many of which were left out of the Third and Fourth Editions. Or listen on https://bigbookpodcast.com [Disclaimer: In strict adherence to A.A.'s traditions, my anonymous guests and I speak for ourselves only, not for Alcoholics Anonymous at large. We share only our personal experiences with A.A. recovery. We acknowledge that AA's sole concern is the recovery and continued sobriety of those alcoholics who turn to the Fellowship for help. As members of AA, our primary purpose is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics achieve sobriety. – Howard L.]

She discusses that the principles and methods don’t change for the high school years but allow us to provide a feast of knowledge for our children.
"A primrose by a river's brim A yellow primrose was to him— And it was nothing more." I think if Peter Bell had been a "P.N.E.U. child" the primrose would have been something more to him—because fairy stories would have formed part of his education. Fairy tales are of the greatest importance in the early education of both the imaginative and unimaginative child. In the case of the first, they supply food for the child's eager fancy, in the case of the second they bring to life a very necessary quality.

When Toronto attorney Charles Vance Millar died in 1926, he left behind a mischievous will that promised a fortune to the woman who gave birth to the most children in the next 10 years. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll follow the Great Stork Derby and the hope and controversy it brought to Toronto's largest families during the Great Depression. We'll also visit some Portuguese bats and puzzle over a suspicious work crew. Intro: The programming language Shakespeare produces code that reads like a stage play. We didn't order them ahead of time, but often they had waters just sitting there waiting to be passed out or they would kindly get us a cup. The fire that fell from God’s presence onto the Old Testament altar is the same fire spoken of in the NT as the fire of purgatory which purifies, or sanctifies, us now on earth or after death (in the absence of mortal sin). Popes Gregory and Benedict XVI, along with such mystic Saints as Catherine of Genoa, Faustina, and John Paul II, have said the all-consuming fire of God’s presence, the fire of purgatory, and the fire of hell are the same fire: Trials on earth are bitter fire for the sinner, even as they purify the person of God. Life’s “fiery trials,” then, are the all-consuming, jealous fire of God probing and purifying us deliberately, deeply, and intimately, just as the altar fire once did in the OT sacrifices. If we offer them to God willingly in Communion with Jesus’ Cross, they contribute to our salvation to the degree that we can be wholly holy at death. When our trials are viewed this way, they become our sacred offerings of love, offered in participation in Jesus’ Cross. They “save” us. "Now, in Russia, they got it mapped out so that everyone pulls for everyone else... that's the theory, anyway. But what I know about is Texas, an' down here... you're on your own." This week April talks to writer/director Julie Hébert (American Crime, The Good Wife, ER) about the phenomenal feature debut of the Coen Brothers, Blood Simple. April and Julie delve into the genius of the directing duo and how they pulled off making such a complete movie on their first try. Julie talks about her directing style and how she likes to let the actors make most of the decisions in creating a character. She discusses working closely with Felicity Huffman. Plus, Julie tells April how she feels bad for actors auditioning, because she can actually smell the sweat of fear coming from the audition waiting room. Check out Julie Hébert's work in American Crime, The Good Wife, and ER. And if you haven't seen it yet, go watch Blood Simple. Julie Hébert is an award-winning playwright and a television writer, director, and producer. She began her career in the San Francisco theater world, and her plays have been produced across the country and won many honors, including two PEN awards for drama. But for the last two decades, Julie has worked as a writer, director, and producer on some of televisions most popular and influential shows: ER, The West Wing, Third Watch, Nashville, The Good Wife, and many others. She is currently the executive producer and a writer/director on ABC's award-winning show American Crime. In this episode, Julie and I cover a lot of ground, including what it's like to be a woman director in an industry still so male-driven. She shares one of her tricks for bringing instant authority to her role, and her opinion on whether this disparity is getting better. Julie patiently answers all of my questions about how a writer's room works on these large sweeping dramas, and how the cast and crew reacts to having a different director for each episode. She shares set stories from her days on The West Wing and ER, as well as the responsibility of making a show like American Crime. This is a GREAT discussion, informative and inspiring.
This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forebearers. It is my claim that the artists are the true revolutionaries, their work honest and filled with raw unedited passion. They are our true heroes. Ashay! 1. Today we have an opportunity to speak to playwright, Julie Hébert, and cast members: Susi Damilano and Carl Lumbly. TREE, directed by Jon Tracy, has its Regional Premiere at the San Francisco Playhouse, January 20th to March 7th, opens January 24, 2015. Winner of the Pen Award for Drama and Backstage Garland Award, Tree is the story of three generations divided by race, culture, and time. The play has contemporary resonance, posing questions about family and what it means to “be related.” “I set out to write a play about race and ended up writing a play about family,” said playwright Julie Hébert about Tree. “About the inescapability of family, of being known over time, of recognizing yourself in others, of continuing relationships after betrayal and suffering. We keep each other honest. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes painful – and so it is with this play.” The story explored in Tree unfolds when a southern white woman shows up at the home of an African-American man in Chicago and claims to be his half-sister, impelling them to confront a shared past. In their search for the truth, they must navigate the fragmented memories of the man's aged mother to discover where their roots intersect.
