Hosted on Acast. In this week's episode, Caley, Jonny, Kit, and Dane dissect Mark Cavendish's recent "retirement" from professional cycling and the unbroken kayfabe (the practice of pretending staged events are real) of his final "race."Then the crew explore the uncertain future of Astana, which faces potential relegation. The hosts discuss Astana's recent hiring of Alex Dowsett as their aero expert, noting a growing British influence within the team. This leads to speculation about whether Cavendish might join Astana in a non-riding role, further fueling the team's "British invasion."Plus! The ongoing controversy surrounding a spectator who threw beer on Eli Iserbyt during the Koppenbergcross race. Iserbyt is pursuing legal action against the individual, sparking a debate about appropriate fan behavior and the boundaries of sportsmanship. And the crew discuss the challenges teams face in nurturing young riders while also maximizing their competitive potential and preventing burnout.

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Noah and Issam talk about the worldcup in Antwerp! They go over the dominant win of Van der Poel, the panic in the Belgian media and a decent Eli Iserbyt! They also talk about the potential of an unbeaten season for Fem van Empel in the womens category after she beat Brand and Pieterse.
Noah and Issam discuss the 6th round of the Cyclocross Worldcup in Flamanville where Lucinda Brand and Eli Iserbyt took the win! Furthermore Noah gives a quick lesson in season planning The Dutch word of this week is Fietswissel which means bike change.
Presentatie: Ron Lemmens
The two subjects we're discussing on episode 66 of the road.cc Podcast are arguably chalk and cheese, but equally as interesting we hope you'll agree! In part 1, Jack and Ryan are joined by Jack Gebhard, Chief of Staff for the Conservative MP for Worcester, Robin Walker, about cycling's curious relationship with 'wokeness'. With 'woke' having morphed from a term to describe those who are alert to racial prejudice and discrimination to a catch-all associated with a whole host of issues such as race, politics, gender and the climate – and often used in a negative way by those that use it – where did the link between cyclists and woke come from, and is it even true in the slightest? In part 2, Ryan is speaking to Lidl Trek's Lucinda Brand and cyclocross specialist Eli Iserbyt at the recent Cyclocross World Cup even in Dublin, before sitting down with Jamie to discuss how ‘cross fits in to the modern pro cyclist's schedule. After UCI president David Lappartient's recent comments suggested that riders would have to take part in cyclocross World Cup events if they want to race at the event's World Championships, does this mean we're approaching the end of the multi-discipline era where the likes of Pidcock and Van Der Poel regularly appear at the biggest cyclocross races? At the time of broadcast, our listeners can also get a free Hammerhead Heart Rate Monitor with the purchase of a Hammerhead Karoo 2. Did you know that Eli Iserbyt could speak more than 4 languages, and that he studied law in school? On this episode, we chat with the 2021-22 Overall World Cup Winner. Eli tells us how he got into cyclocross after pursuing football in his youth.
The Cyclocross worldcup has started with the first round in Waterloo Wisconsin. Eli Iserbyt won the mens races after a display of class. He held off Sweeck who who missed his start, and a bunch of exciting Trek Baloise riders. The womens races was won by Van Empel after a great race with Alvarado and Brand in the mix! Listen to the recap and our thoughts on the racing in this episode of the cyclocross social podcast!
The Cyclocross Worldcup is starting this weekend with the world cup in Waterloo. Noah and Tom take a look ahead at this worldcup. They discuss the calendar and the main contenders. Will someone be able to beat Eli Iserbyt? Vanthourenhout, Sweeck and Van der Haar look to be the main challengers. But when does Mathieu van der Poel start his season, and could he be a factor? Will we see more from Brand and Van Empel on the womens side? Will those 2 battle it out for the overall win, or can Worst and Betsema do something? And when will the likes of Persico and Vos start their cross season? Listen to this and much more in this episode of the cyclocross social podcast!
After the season opener in Kruibeke, the cyclocross season continues in Beringen! The course on the 'Avonturenberg' provided us with some amazig racing to talk about. In the mens race Eli Iserbyt took his first win of the season, beating Vanthourenhout and Van der Haar. The strength of Iserbyt is discussed, aswell as the improvements seen at the end of van der haar. Meanwhile there was a pack of young riders ending behind the top 3 that certainly deserved some attention. Ronhaar put in a great effort to end 4th, but Meeussen, Nys, Michels and Kamp all deserve credit for their race. In the womens race, the racing was a lot more tense. Brand an Van Empel were equal to each other and despite some bad luck were able to distance the rest. In a sprint Van Empel won, which was pretty unique. The battle was analyzed, whilst there was more to say about some other riders like Schreiber, Kastelijn and Betsema. Finally, there is attention for the situation around Mathieu van der Poel and the Bronze Medal for Silvia Persico in the womens race! Listen to it all in the second episode of the cyclocross social podcast! You can email us at noah@cyclocrosss.com

Behind that Pim Ronhaar did a phenomenal job, ending third. He became the third youngest podium sitter of a worldcup. We also look into the performances of Meisen and Orts. For the womens race we mainly talk about the second place of Rochette, who got her first European worldcup podium. Ofcouse Brand her wins also gets attention, just as the rest of the riders in the top 10. We mainly zoom in on the great ride of Katie Clouse, and her teammate Clara Honsinger. The cyclocross social podcast is back for the 2021-22 season! Today Noah is joined by Twan and Issam to talk about the Worldcup in Koksijde! Todays main talking point is the win of Eli Iserbyt, who took another win. How did he do it this time, and how did he beat sand specialist Laurens Sweeck? Could Hermans and Aerts have done anything to prevent this victory? And what did Van der Haar do in todays race? We also touch upon Vincent Baestaens who is out contract, and Hendrickx who put in a great performance. For the womens race we talk about the first win in a long time of Annemarie Worst. Where did she find this form, and how did she claim the win today? We also look at the race from Betsema, Alvarado and Brand. After that we focus on some riders outside of the top 10. We end with a small touch upon the race in Hittnau where Haussler ended 4th. He has a short word on his race for us aswell.

Who can beat Eli Iserbyt, and how? Those are the 2 main questions for the mens race. Can Toon Aerts do it? Or Lars van der Haar? And who are the other contenders for the podium? For the womens race the main question is if Vas can beat the Dutch women again after her win in Overijse. How will the Dutch women play the race, will we see team tactics? Will Brand be better than Betsema? And what can Kastelijn and Worst do? The final part of the podcast goes in on the youth races. The cyclocross social podcast is back for the 2021-22 season. In todays episode Noah, Twan and Issam talk about the first round of the X²O Badkamers Trofee which took place on the Koppenberg. There wasnt a lot to say about the mens race, as Eli Iserbyt was just simply a cut above the rest. So, the focus isnt on that, but more on where he stands against the big 3. We also discuss the comments about Pauwels Sauzen potentially becoming Pro Conti to ride a Grand Tour. As usual there is time to talk about some other riders in the top 10, like the duo Meeusen Loockx from Hens Maes and Michael Vanthournhout who didnt have a great day. There was much more to discuss about the womens race, with the win of Clara Honsinger being the main topic of the day. Also attention for the strange news around Alvarado and Worst, who have had strange reports about their injuries. The podcast ends with a look at the U23 race and the other races in Europe. Listen to this and much more in this episode of the cyclocross social podcast!
The cyclocross social podcast is back for the 2021-22 season. In todays episode Noah, Tom and Issam take a look ahead at the first Belgian round of the worldcup, Zonhoven. First they talk about the mens race. Can anyone beat Eli Iserbyt? Quinten Hermans looked strong this season, but is Zonhoven really a parcours for him? And whats up with Toon Aerts, he has had a lot of ups and downs this season. Of course there is also competition from within Pauwels Sauzen. Sweeck and Vanthourenhout have been doing good this season. For the womens race the main question is if anyone can compete with Brand and Betsema now Vos and Vas arent here. Can Alvarado do it on her comeback? Or perhaps Worst and Pieterse are names that can do it. Listen to this, and much more, in this episode of the cyclocross social podcast!

The cyclocross social podcast is back for the 2021-22 cyclocross season! In this episode Noah and Twan talk about the fourth race of the season: The Ethias Cross in Meulebeke! The mens race in Meulebeke was a different one compared to the weeks before. No Eli Iserbyt win to talk about this time, but a win for his Teammate Michael Vanthourenhout to discuss! Behind him Aerts fought out a major battle with Sweeck and Hermans for the remaining podium places. We express our opinions on that aswell as on the 5th place of Eli Iserbyt. Behind that there was a lot of exciting talent ending in the top 10 to talk about. The womens race was also very exciting. Belgian champion Sanne Cant started her season with a win, but she needed to fight hard for it. Fresh world champion U19 on the road Zoe Backstedt didnt make the life of Cant easy. They fought hard, but ultimately Zoe had to settle for second. Her teammate Schreiber ended third, which is also impressive. After discussing the rest of the top 10 we go across the other races in Europe to talk about the results. Listen to it all here!
The cyclocross social podcast is back for the 2021-22 cyclocross season! In this episode Noah, Twan and Issam take a look ahead at the first round of the Superprestige in Gieten! For the mens race the big favorites are discusses. Who can beat Eli Iserbyt? Can Toon Aerts do it, after taking a week of rest? Or can his team mate Lars van der Haar do it, as he has been on good form this season! Of course Laurens Sweeck and Quinten Hermans can't be forgotten. We also discuss our expectations for Thibau Nys and Joris Nieuwenhuis, who both start their season in Gieten. For the womens race the big question is: What will world champion Lucinda Brand do at her return to cyclocross? Can she immediately compete with Betsema and Kastelijn who have been on fine form throughout the season so far? And what about Worst and Alvarado? Will they be able to bounce back after a start to their season which wasn't great? Listen to it all here!
The cyclocross social podcast is back for the 2021-22 cyclocross season! In this episode Noah, Twan and Issam talk about the third race of the season: The Ethias Cross in Bredene! On a warm autumn day in September the cyclocross field gathered in Beringen for the third race of the season. It was Eli Iserbyt who again took advandtage of the fact that Pauwels Sauzen bingoal had the strongest team. He took his third win of the season after playing the teamgame. Sweeck and Vanthourenhout completed the party, by making it a 1-2-3. We also discuss Quinten Hermans who started his season with a 4th place! The womens race was more interesting, so there is also more talk about that. How did Piterse, Worst and Alvarado do on their first race of the season compared with Betsema and Kastelijn? And what does Pieterse doing rappid bunny hops tell us for the rest of the season? Finally we also discus the Road Worldchampionships in Leuven as there was a lot of cyclocross success there. En wie is er eigenlijk ‘the best of the rest': Toon Aerts of Eli Iserbyt?
