If you are not familiar with Toxic Positivity is the idea that you're happy no matter what, that you portray this image of positivity no matter the circumstances. You just choose joy. I believe it even goes so far that you deny other emotions and you minimize what you're really feeling just be happy.  The truth is that's not how we were created to be as humans we actually are created to experience the entire emotional spectrum.  If you're not sure if you're seeing toxic positivity let me give you a few clues. iIf you notice there is a hiding of true feelings or masking those feelings. If you feel guilty that you feel anything but happiness or if you even notice a minimizing of other people's experiences with just telling them oh just “be happy”. if you've ever heard someone just give the perspective that “it could be worse” instead of really validating what you're feeling.  If anyone's ever just brushed off things that bother you or if you've been chastised for expressing anything but positive emotions these are sure signs of toxic positivity. If you are on social media, you are experiencing it. This is not just a highlight reel, I'm actually talking about this message that you should be positive or that you should just choose joy.   I want you to consider, because of this culture of toxic positivity I believe there is an increase in shame. There’s a belief that I'm not doing enough, I'm not enough, I can't just be happy, I can't just choose joy. It's directly leading to an increase in negative self-talk affecting all areas of our life.   Listen to the full episode for what you can do today to combat Toxic Positivity. I have experienced adult peer pressure as have many women I have spoken with. It’s not the “have a drink” peer pressure, though I have definitely experienced that as someone who does not drink very often.  No, this comes on when you decide to make a change in your life. When I decided to make my health a priority it made my friends and even some of my family uncomfortable.  They shared unexpected feedback that I didn’t need to change.  I should be happy with where I was.  I should not want to change. People don’t want you to change and it’s stopping you from making changes. There could be several reasons they don’t want you to change.  Maybe it’s because your changes highlight something in their life they are struggling with.  Maybe they believe that by you changing it’s going to change your relationship with them.  No matter the reason, it’s not actually about you, but it is preventing you from making the changes you want to make. I want to change, shift, grow and stretch.  I want to do things for myself that make that possible.  What if it were highly valued to be someone who keeps evolving and growing?   Dive into the full episode of the podcast to hear more of my thoughts about what to do when others don’t want you to change.    To Connect with Your Host Jennifer D’Amato: Private Consultation: https://www.healthcoach4life.com/requestsession/?sid=3 Follow Jennifer on Instagram at www.instagram.com/jennifer_lifeandmindsetcoach Follow the Podcast: www.instagram.com/healthlifeandmoreforwomen  Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/lifecoachjenniferdamato/ Pinterest at www.pinterest.com/jenniferhealthcoach4life/ For questions about the podcast, to submit and idea for discussion Email Jennifer: jenniferdamatopodcast@gmail.com

Health, Life and More for Women Podcast

Today I am talking on the podcast about trust and specifically about broken trust. When we have trust in relationships we may not actively acknowledge it, but if trust has been broken we are very aware of it.  You feel it deeply and our actions, choices and decisions reflect the awareness of broken trust. It can go so far as affecting other relationships and other areas of our life. You can question yourself. Doubt yourself.  And of course it can be the thing that leads to negative self-talk.   I want you to take a look at a specific relationship where you may be experiencing broken trust.  First acknowledge that you are in a relationship with food. Whether it’s a healthy relationship or an extremely toxic one you are in a relationship.  How do you know if you have broken trust with food?  If you have deemed a food “bad” and restricted yourself from having that food for a period of time. And then you finish the end of the period of time, or “give in” and have it...and then over consume or feel guilty for having it.  You believe you have no “self control”.  You beat yourself up and believe you can’t trust yourself around the food.  Broken trust.  When was the last time you thought about your relationship with food? Most people never think about their relationship to food.  They have not healed their relationship to food.  They can lose weight and still feel like garbage.  They can be eating the healthiest and best foods for their body and still fear food.  This is exactly why in my practice we have to address the relationship to food and the broken trust.  When you carry the weight of broken trust the physical weight does not matter.  To help you start healing this broken trust you can start by downloading my free eBook at https://www.healthcoach4life.com/selftalkebook/ To walk through the process with Jennifer as your Life Coach start here by booking a one-time kick-start session at https://www.healthcoach4life.com/kickstartsession/?sid=21 Or, if you want to go deeper and really do the work on your thoughts and habits then book a consultation today at https://www.healthcoach4life.com/requestsession/?sid=3  Follow Jennifer on Instagram at www.instagram.com/jennifer_lifeandmindsetcoach Follow the Podcast: www.instagram.com/healthlifeandmoreforwomen  Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/lifecoachjenniferdamato/ Pinterest at www.pinterest.com/jenniferhealthcoach4life/ For questions about the podcast, to submit and idea for discussion Email Jennifer: jenniferdamatopodcast@gmail.com

Real Habit Change Needs This

I absolutely love talking habit change and breaking things down for you. A lot of the work I do as a Life and Health Coach is about habit change.  I believe in my core that if we can change our habits, then we can completely change.  I am a product of my coaching.  There was a time that I did not write gratitude every morning, or drink my water and workout as part of my morning routine. How did I make this a daily reality?  It is habit change, small steps over time leading to the result I wanted. Now, was it easy=peasy lemon-squeezy?  Heck no!  I believe that we all want to believe habit change is easy.  Give me 21 days and I can make or break a habit.  I wish it was that easy, but the reality is that it’s not. Habits are hard to break and hard to create. To create an established habit it takes months and months. You might struggle to stick with creating a habit and find yourself frustrated.  But let me assure you that habit change starts with being aware there’s a habit you want to change, not when you start to make or change the habit.  The awareness is making connections in your brain, which is what leads to really habit change.  Listen to the full episode for all the details and why awareness is the most important party of habit change.  Private Consultation: https://www.healthcoach4life.com/requestsession/?sid=3 Follow Jennifer on Instagram at www.instagram.com/jennifer_lifeandmindsetcoach Follow the Podcast: www.instagram.com/healthlifeandmoreforwomen  Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/lifecoachjenniferdamato/ Pinterest at www.pinterest.com/jenniferhealthcoach4life/ For questions about the podcast, to submit and idea for discussion Email Jennifer: jenniferdamatopodcast@gmail.com

I am an Instagram girl and I love using filters on my stories!  Do you?  Well, it’s those fun filters that inspired this episode, and not just because I like playing virtual dress up as a 40+ year old woman!  We use the process of filtering all the time in our life.  We see things the way we see things.  I know this is mind blowing...LOL!  Ok, maybe not mind blowing but a truth.  We all have our own filters-like glasses we put on to interpret how we see our life and our future. Some filters are amazing (just like those one on Instagram!).  Unfortunately, some are not. They are pixelated, skewed.  Experiences in our lives affect our filter. And our filters can even get in our way.  Sometimes we need someone who has a clearer filter than we do. The benefit of having a life coach is a coaches filter is so much clearer than ours. A coach can bring in a clear filter to see the situation as it is.  It’s powerful, it’s why I need to be coached and what I am able to bring to each session as a coach to my own clients. Do you acknowledge your own filters?  Are they clear or skewed?  It might be the best decision to make to work with a life coach who can help bring in a new perspective.  A clear filter. In that coaching relationship you can tap into this objective filter. Book a private consultation with me today to start working together and inviting in an objective filter.

I know, we usually only talk about Vision Boards at the end of the year (or the week of January 1st), but I am going there in June.  Did you create one in January?  A pretty visual or collage online?  Maybe a list for the year or lifetime?  You may have decided to say “pass” on making a vision board...and you may have done that because you do not currently have a vision for yourself or your future you. It’s practically impossible to make a vision board without a vision.  If you can’t see yourself moving forward you are not going to have any need for stacks of magazines to cut images for your vision board. You don’t have to be crafty (or even own craft supplies!) to create your vision -or vision board. Thank goodness, because that is not my jam.  I do have a vision-for myself, for my business and for my family.  It’s written down.  Yeah, pen to paper! No glue needed! How can we evaluate if we are headed in the right direction if we don’t have a vision of where we are headed? Whether it’s at the end of this year or the end of your life, you need a vision to know if where you are headed is in the right direction.  Dive into this episode to help you get a mid-year surge of energy to reconnect with your vision or create one now. Health, Life and More for Women Podcast

We are not little kids anymore asking “why?” all the time -and subsequently driving our parents bonkers crazy, however I believe “why?” is important.   Yes, we are grown adults, but if we don’t have a why then we have a why bother.  That “why” is our solid reason for why we show up, why we do something.  We need clarity on the why.   You may hate or be in total avoidance mode for a particular task or job and it might be because you don’t have a strong “why” behind what you are doing. There are things in your life that you don’t have a deeply rooted why, leaving you with a why bother.  For years in our home it was family dinners.  It wasn’t until we got really clear on why we were doing them 3-4 times a week that they became consistent and no longer a why bother. Have you found yourself asking yourself “why” with something? Is it leaving you with a “why bother”?  Then, it’s time to either get clear on your why or consider that it’s time to let it go. 5 Steps to Stop Negative Self Talk

This episode is directly from my work as a Life Coach.  Things you say to yourself about yourself that are reeking havoc on you. I want to not just address this topic but give you a step by step process to start working through negative self talk. As a life coach to women, I not only hear negative self talk from my clients, but it is something as a woman that I have struggled with.  “Your thighs are so fat” “You don't know anything” You are absolutely going to fail at this” “Look at the rolls on my stomach” Your sentences might be different, but because you believe what you are saying it is hurting you.  But, is it really your voice saying these things?  Maybe it sounds like you, but I challenge that it really is you.  I want to help you start the process of removing negative self talk using my 5 step process below. This is not a one and done. You are literally changing your thoughts. Some deeply rooted and deeply WOUNDING thoughts. You can see that having a safe space and guidance for this type of work can not only help but provide support you need. Book a session with me today HERE to work together through this and more.  Start with these steps I walk clients through: Do a brain dump for 2 minutes writing ALL the things you say about your body. Now reread the list and choose the top 2-3 things you say that you want to change now. Highlight them. Taking each negative thought/belief you chose you will now rewrite what you want to believe instead. example: my client’s negative thought “my thighs are fat”  what she chose to believe instead “my legs are strong” (this was what she wanted....it’s always about YOU) Write the 2/3 NEW thoughts. Set a time(s) each day you will practice saying them out loud to yourself everyday. Preferably in the mirror (but not required)⠀ BONUS: Set up an anchor to remind you of this new practice. * for my client it was when she put her watch on every morning. It reminded her she was PUTTING ON these new thoughts. Spring Cleaning Gives You More Than Space

It’s the end of March which means spring is here...or at least coming soon depending on where you reside.  I can remember as a kid spring cleaning was a big deal. Spring cleaning isn’t the same living in Arizona as we don’t change out entire seasons of clothes. However, I love opening up the windows around the entire house.  I feel like I am letting out all the winter air and adding fresh spring air in.  It’s like a surge of energy and excitement. Similar to that feeling as a kid clearing out those winter clothes anticipating shorts, tank tops and swimsuits. Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be just in the spring though.  You can actually have that lighter feeling that feeling of space that accompanies spring cleaning all the time.   I coach others to clear the clutter.  Spring clean the clutter in your life anytime.  No matter where you start clearing clutter it’s important to start.  I don’t believe you can have clutter and clarity at the same time. Whenever I notice a feeling of overwhelm or ideas stop flowing for me I take a look around...clutter. This is true in our closet, our purse, our kitchen and our mind.  Our mind often is filled with clutter. We never clear it out. Remove the junk mail from the past, the beliefs that don’t fit us any longer, the things we just don’t need anymore…when we remove the clutter from our thoughts we have space.  A spring cleaning that gives us clarity. Clarity in our thoughts, peace in our mind. Take this spring to clear the clutter and give space for clarity! I believe being intentional with our morning can be a game changer.  It can change the end of our day just by how we start our day. I am living proof of it, but I also hear it time and time again from my clients who make simple shifts in this area.  Not all at once, but over time feeling high levels of satisfaction from start to finish of their day.   Remember, at one point I had to make a choice.  It wasn’t always easy to get up before the sun and workout.  Heck, it’s not always easy now..it’s just a deeply rooted habit now.  Like anything we truly want to make a habit there has to be a transformation.  I had to transform my thinking and my nighttime routine to make my morning routine a success.  So, what’s your morning like?  Is it where you want it to be? If not I made a one page morning checklist for you.  Maybe you are most of the way there but you want to up level it to fit in more to your mornings. And it wouldn’t be a parenting podcast episode in 2020 if we didn’t touch upon social media and how we deal with our disagreement on this topic.  We do give some time to discuss the belief that parents do not understand their teens from both of our perspectives and the one point we can both agree on about it.  We talk about the importance of family dinners and I nudge my peacemaker enneagram Type 9 to answer the question, “What is something that is not going well in the parent-child relationship?”  Her response won’t surprise you, but how we approach it might. Don’t worry, she also answers what’s going well too! Lots of laughs on this episode and one we both hope encourages conversations in your home with your kids and teens! How Do You Define Success?

In this episode I talk about success and more specifically I dive into how you are defining success in your life.  First let’s reflect on the goals you set for the new year. Maybe you’ve lost sight of them.  Did you write them down? This is a key step in being successful. Don’t skip it! Take the time to write them down. Then ask yourself: Am I making steps towards those goals? Am I taking action? Making progress? Next, let’s take a broader look. We set goals for our life all the time.  We have dreams, we have desires and not just for the end of the year, we set these things all the time even if they're a little project at work or we have a goal as a parent, or a goal as a business owner. You define success in those goals. You are the one setting what success looks like for your goals.  So the question is, how do you define success? The only way to know if you are successful, or have been successful, is if you have defined it.    Grab your free copy of “The Beginner’s Guide to Understanding Your Hunger”: www.healthcoach4life.com Book a Free Consultation with Jennifer at https://www.healthcoach4life.com/requestsession Everything You Have Ever Wanted from Jennifer: www.healthcoach4life.com Follow Jennifer on Instagram at www.instagram.com/jennifer_healthcoach4life Facebook at www.facebook.com/jennifercoach4life Pinterest at www.pinterest.com/jenniferhealthcoach4life/ For questions about the podcast, to submit and idea for discussion Email Jennifer: jenniferdamatopodcast@gmail.com

We've been on both sides of that conversation. You've been the girl who's asked, “how are you doing?” and you've also been a girl who has responded with “fine” but you're not fine. You're not fine at all. The answer really is “I'm overwhelmed”, “I'm completely stressed out to my max right now”, “I'm sad”, “I'm feeling lonely”, “I'm frustrated with everything and everyone around me”. You're not fine. We have this compulsion to answer I'm fine. We hide behind “fine”.    We have a fear of judgement if you answer truthfully. If we answer truthfully we will also have to accept that we are not fine. In addition to those reasons, we don’t believe those that ask us are not truly interested. It’s not just the end of a year, but the end of another decade! 2019 is ending really well for me, but it wasn’t always this way.  Why? When I never set a direction or goals for the year I leave it way to open.   What’s different this year?  I wrote all my goals down, but I didn’t stop there.  I reviewed them throughout the year. Are they still goals I want?  Have I achieved them? Have they shifted?   I also review my calendar (thank you Google!). I want to review and evaluate where and how I spent my time over the past year.  If this is completely foreign to you, it’s ok let’s get started with 2020!  But don’t worry, sit down with those you spend most of your time with and involve them in the process to help you start evaluating this past year.  This is not about judgement, but about moving forward. It’s an opportunity to get curious.  Lastly, let’s end the year FULL of gratitude.  Not just full, like totally overflowing! I include gratitude as I close out the year. It's this idea of what we say about ourselves to ourselves. We are hearing our echo all the time and it’s affecting all areas of our life. And it’s not just the echo we need to consider, it’s also the reverb.  The things we say about ourselves to ourself are bouncing off of others. Affecting others.   To change the reverb, we must change the echo.  To change the echo we must change the words we are saying.  To change those, we need to do the inner work to change our thoughts. Anyone out there ever had to pivot?  You know, totally change directions. I struggled with the fact that I spent a lot of time and money on college and then I became a mom and never used it.  Talk about a pivot!  It may not be from college to being a mom that is your big pivot, but you have had to change directions and struggled with doing it. You know, it’s not the way you thought it was going to go.  And then to add on other people’s thoughts and opinions to add to the conversation already going on in my head.  I didn’t understand the benefits of pivoting.  I didn’t understand that there was something to learn from the pivot.  Want Jennifer to be your coach? As I near my 40th birthday I want to invite some reflection on the version of ourselves that we envisioned versus the version of us that actually exists. In this episode, this is what you’ll hear from me: The much younger version of me envisioned the life I would have at 40...wow, it looks totally different. I look totally different.    Have you ever talked to the younger version of yourself?  What about writing a letter to that version of yourself? Maybe there are things you need to let go of or forgive from that version of yourself. Do you ever see the estimated time on the navigation and think, “I can totally beat that?” Yeah, me too! Challenge accepted! However, are we also taking this approach to life and parenting our kids?   In this episode, this is what you’ll hear from me: Sometimes we approach parenting seasons with the same idea - to get out of this season we are currently in as fast as possible.  Parenting seasons don’t last long though and I want to hold space for each season though. Whether it’s toddlerville or teenageville.   We are missing the scenery though when we do this. Instead of rushing through instead what if you create a proactive parenting plan?
