WOW.. this one hit me hard… right in the heart.  It came from liminal (@Liminal1988) and it's a note that is titled “Dear Younger Me.”  It starts out “You didn't know many things. You didn't know how life would turn out, or why certain things were happening to you. And that's ok….” and the last couple of lines “.... You're still learning, still healing. There's always something good in you. There was always something special about you. Then, and even now.”  This got me thinking about my younger self and how that part of me (all the parts of my younger self) is still with me. The saying of how our past is our best mentor still rings true. I think it becomes even more valuable and special, when we are able to connect it to the memories, feelings, emotions, etc., of our younger self(s). Make sure you look this one up & take it to heart to make changes that you can connect with for your life!  Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.

Forgiveness is a gift. Not just to us from God, but for us to exercise in our own lives. We aren't meant to carry around all the times we feel we've been wronged, and forgiveness allows us to let go of that baggage. As we wrap up "Dear Younger Me," we see Joseph making the ultimate choice to forgive his brothers because he knew God's plan was greater than their intent to harm him.

We've all experienced pain. Not just physically, but emotionally. And sometimes those emotional wounds feel like they'll never heal. But what if our purpose is on the other side of that pain? In Week 3 of "Dear Younger Me," we see God take Joseph from slave to royalty after being abandoned by his brothers.

Dear Younger Me, I see you.  You feel alone and unprepared right now.  Your helpless, precious child has been diagnosed with a severe food allergy and you're now living with food allergies.  You've already seen the power this disease has when your sweet child became swollen beyond recognition with hives, redness, and itchiness.  You're told it could have been much worse and you're thankful but fearful of the next time.  Your mama bear instincts are in overdrive. You don't know exactly why your baby has food allergies, just that it's more real and scary than you ever imagined.  The doctor says to keep your LO away from one of your FAVORITE foods, yet you have NO idea exactly how to do this and feel resentful that you have to.  After hours of searching the internet, it gives you a small amount of hope, but nothing compares to the injustice you feel right now.  You have so many questions.  Well younger me, I'm hoping to put your mind at ease… This isn't just for when you're newly diagnosed, but also in the first 5-7 years afterwards too.  Here's my loving advice for my younger self, and for you too. This is the start to our "between the seasons season" that we have affectionately called "Dear Younger Me..." In the break between Life Group seasons, Karen and Brooklyn are going to discuss things they wish they knew when they were younger. But, this episode is devoted to getting to know them better. Even though you might not be meeting with your Life Group over the next three months, we encourage you to keep listening and get together with a friend (twice a month) for coffee and to chat about whatever we discussed! Don't let the break from Life Groups mean a break from meaningful relationship! Here are the questions we discussed...talk about them at coffee with your friend! What’s a skill you want to learn? What is the biggest risk you ever took? What is your favorite joke? What was the last book you read? What is your pet peeve? What phone app do you use the most Would you run a marathon? What did you want to be when you grew up? What situations make you feel most anxious? Have you ever been close to death? Would you rather give up eating or sleeping? Take away: Brooklyn is not 13 :) Brooklyn and Karen are "real" people with real feelings and real fears. Action step: Set up coffee with a friend and discuss the Getting To Know You questions!

About Karen Deis: When she began in the mortgage business, she never imagined that she would become a pioneer and an advocate for women in the mortgage business. In her small town, she was the first woman closing agent, the first woman loan officer, the first woman branch manager, and ultimately the first women-owned mortgage company with an all-female staff. Then something happened: her sister, co-owner of our company, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She couldn't go on in the business without her, so they sold the company at a profit because of their huge client database and consumer-direct marketing strategies, which are still relevant today.Rather than going back to working as a loan originator, she realized her desire was to share and mentor other loan officers on how to increase THEIR mortgage business. She knew that she could help them be successful and make more money than they ever could have imagined. So she built and created online and live events for loan officers and she has been doing them for the last 22 years. Karen was the first woman contributing editor for Mortgage Originator Magazine. She also built and created Loan Officer Magazine in 2002, online seminars in 2004, Mortgage Girlfriends membership group in 2007, Mortgage Currency in 2008, and Mortgage Women Speakers Bureau in 2020. She has also written several books for mortgage loan officers, which include Little Book of Mortgage Scripts, Little Book of Mortgage Seminars, No Shiny Objects – 29 Timeless Mortgage Marketing Strategies, Dear Younger Me: 68 Women Share their Mortgage Business Advice, and more. Today, she considers herself semi-retired as she is still involved in speaking and coaching clients. She is a Junior Achievement instructor and Volunteer for Dress for Success, South Dakota. Her husband and children are all engineers and she has 3 beautiful grandchildren. In this episode Steve and Karen discuss:Putting your mind in a toward state It's still important to have personal connections Connection rather than competition Engaging people in social mediaKey Takeaways: When our mind is in a “toward state,” meaning we are moving toward something, we become more creative, more thoughtful, and even smarter. Our prefrontal cortex works and we reduce cortisol and stress. Many things have changed over the years, but what hasn't changed is that it's still important to have personal connections with people. Technology has made it possible to converse with people a lot easier but it's better to go beyond that and engage people personally on a deeper level. People you do business with should become friends. Instill a spirit of camaraderie and collaboration with people. Encourage connection and not competition. In social media, ask questions that generate conversations. Reply back to those who comment individually. If it gets a little more involved, tell them you're going to send them a private message. “Take care of your people. You have the ability to read how your people are feeling and what they're thinking - you react to that as well.” - Karen DeisConnect with Karen Deis:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KarenDeis Website: https://karendeis.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karen-deis-7b91a66 Connect with Steve and Jason:LinkedIn: Jason or SteveWebsite: Rewire, Inc.: Transformed Thinking Email: grow@rewireinc.comShow notes by Podcastologist: Justine TallaAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. John is a Marine Corps veteran of Desert Storm, a former football coach, and a professional fitness coach who saw his life radically transformed by his complete surrender to God, and I can't wait for you to hear his redemption story.   We talk about the super-storm of John's life that led to him completely surrender to his Heavenly Father, and how that experience taught him that trusting God and becoming vulnerable are the only way to true freedom. We also talk about him meeting Bart Mallard, the lead singer for Mercy Me, and how the song, Dear Younger Me, inspired the final chapter of John's book.   In his book, “Broken and Redeemed”, John shares a story of beautiful, authentic brokenness that rests in the redemption only found in God.   Be sure to check out the links below to connect with John on social media, visit his website, and get your signed copy of John's new book (and a discount!!).   Website: https://brokenandredeemed.com/ Use Promo Code: TITUS 3:3-7 when you order from the website to get 20% off and have your book signed by John!   Facebook: John Jarman Instagram: @john_brokenredeemed Twitter: @broken_redeemed     Thank you for listening! What would you write if you had the chance to pen a letter to your younger self? What changes would you make? Would you try to avoid bad decisions? Would you direct yourself to lucrative investments? Okay, cool. But what if it risked what you have now? Would it be worth it?We are going to dig in on all of those questions today. To help guide us through, we will be reading and considering the lyrics from the Mercy Me song, "Dear Younger Me." I have added the lyrics to the song below. It takes a surprising, and somewhat humbling honestly, turn at the end that has me thinking through a lot of things. I hope it has that affect on you as well.A pursuit into changing the past can make us feel worse about our life today. You know, wishing we could change things but having to live with the fact that we cannot. But there is a much, much better outcome available that will - spoiler alert - seed everything great thing in knowing Christ!Dear younger meWhere do I startIf I could tell you everything that I have learned so farThen you could beOne step aheadOf all the painful memories still running thru my headI wonder how much different things would beDear younger me,Dear younger meI cannot decideDo I give some speech about how to get the most out of your lifeOr do I go deepAnd try to changeThe choices that you'll make cuz they're choices that made meEven though I love this crazy lifeSometimes I wish it was a smoother rideDear younger me, dear younger meIf I knew then what I know nowCondemnation would've had no powerMy joy my pain would've never been my worthIf I knew then what I know nowWould've not been hard to figure outWhat I would've changed if I had heardDear younger meIt's not your faultYou were never meant to carry this beyond the crossDear younger meYou are holyYou are righteousYou are one of the redeemedSet apart a brand new heartYou are free indeedEvery mountain every valleyThru each heartache you will seeEvery moment brings you closerTo who you were meant to beDear younger me, dear younger meYou are holyYou are righteousYou are one of the redeemedSet apart a brand new heartYou are free indeedYou are holyYou are righteousYou are one of the redeemedSet apart a brand new heartYou are free indeedYou are holyYou are righteousYou are one of the redeemedSet apart a brand new heartYou are free indeed

Sometimes I find myself comparing how I look to how other people look and it's one of those thoughts that just pop up here and there but this week I realized that I do that a lot. I would always think "yeah I'm cute but I'm not beautiful" or "I look good when I have make-up on" or "why I can't I look like so-and-so?" And there's this part of me that wishes I had someone else's face because they're prettier. And I usually dismiss these thoughts as normal but the Lord has been telling me that they're not. They're not in line with His truth and therefore are lies from the enemy. Dear Younger Me, the advice that I would give you is your beauty comes from your value and your value comes from God deciding you are valuable. You are not valuable because you're beautiful. But rather it's the other way around. Hey everyone! My name is Jamie and welcome to Dear Younger Me. Dear Younger Me
how to overcome fear and anxiety

Dear Younger Me

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 8, 2021 23:07

Anxiety can also show up in the form of controlling things, needing things to be a certain way. Otherwise there'll be havoc in the world. It can also show up physically. Your heartbeat rises. You feel like you're holding your breath. Your muscles tense up. Your brain is full of what-if scenarios. You're always preparing for the worse. You have 5 different back-up plans for each decision in your life. And you might even find yourself obsessively eating or cleaning. In our culture nowadays, we've accepted anxiety as a normal part of our lives when really it is a flight or fight response and we're not meant to be anxious all the time. Dear Younger Me, don't let anxiety rule your life. It is not from God and there is a way we can be free from it. What to do when you're fearful and anxious: 1. Ask Holy Spirit to give you peace because it is a fruit of the Spirit and to walk in step with the Spirit so that your desires to control everything will be released. If you do one, you cannot do the other. 2. Understand who God is and His characteristics. He is good, knows everything, has good plans for you and is with you all the time. 3. Work through trauma with the Holy Spirit. There might be traumatic experiences in your life that impact the way you function. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what is causing you your anxiety? What are the fears that are holding you back? 4. Speak God's truth over your life. There's a reason that the Word is our weapon. It's the sword of the spirit that can cut through lies. There's power in speaking bible verses 5. Do a social media fast. All of these social media platforms are designed to make you compare yourself to others and make you vie for what you don't have. Don't use social media to replace real human interactions and create a digital world where you live in. You are going to be disappointed with the real life you're living. Hey everyone! My name is Jamie and welcome to Dear Younger Me. This podcast is dedicated to giving advice to my younger self in hopes that it'll also help other people who might be going through similar things. Growing up I didn't really understand who God was. My relationship with him never felt personal to me. When I prayed, it felt like I was talking to a blank wall. I'd never hear anything back. I wasn't sure if God was even listening. It just felt like He was some man in the sky. My earthly father also passed away when I was 2 so I didn't even know what growing up with a dad did feel like. And I think that probably made God the father feel even more absent in my life. A year ago, I started writing out different attributes to God the father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit because I felt like God wanted me to know the different roles they all had. The concept of three persons in one is also known as the Holy Trinity. Today, I'm going to talk about who each of those distinct persons are and their different attributes. Dear Younger Me, the advice I'd give you is to dig deeper into understanding who God the Father is, God the Son is, and God the Holy Spirit is because only then will you understand your relationship with each one of them. Here what my roommate Kayla has to say about the Christian sub-culture. Dear Younger Me is a podcast talking about the advice that I wish I could've given my younger self. I wish when I was going through elementary school, the awkward years of middle school and the transformative ones of college, that I had an older mentor who could teach me so many things and help me avoid pain. But since I never got that, I hope that this podcast can be me being that older sister giving helpful advice to all the young people (and maybe even older people) out there. In these episodes, I will be talking about everything ranging from how to not be shy in elementary school, how to take better care of my body physically and mentally in high school, all the way to how to build genuine friendships with people.

Health, Life and More for Women Podcast

As I near my 40th birthday I want to invite some reflection on the version of ourselves that we envisioned versus the version of us that actually exists. In this episode, this is what you’ll hear from me: The much younger version of me envisioned the life I would have at 40...wow, it looks totally different. I look totally different.    Have you ever talked to the younger version of yourself?  What about writing a letter to that version of yourself? Maybe there are things you need to let go of or forgive from that version of yourself. What would you tell the younger version of yourself?   Things that kept you stuck yesterday do not have to keep you stuck today.    Have you done this?  Maybe it’s time.   There’s power here.  There’s freedom here.    Grad some pen and paper and start “Dear Younger Me,”   Free “Am I Really Hungry?” E-Book Found At: www.healthcoach4life.com Want to dive deeper into your health and life goals?  Want support and accountability? The Golden Spiral Media stable of podcasts has busted out with a lot of time travel goodness, especially with this season of television. “The Flash” on the CW and the Central City Underground podcast, hosted by Tony and Joe have been dealing with time travel for a couple of years now. We have two new shows now based on time travel, the Remaking History podcast for the NBC show “Timeless,” hosted by Karen and Doug and the Radio Static podcast for the CW show “Frequency,” hosted by SILY's own Barb and her cohost Steve. I'm also loving “This Is Us” which isn't time travel based, but whose storytelling, much like LOST, depends on keeping up with many timelines at once. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that there is a lot of television, especially genre TV, which is Golden Spiral Media's wheelhouse, that is giving us as the audience a lot to dive in and think about what might happen when our timeline could go a little wonky. Have you ever had a moment or three in your life that you wish you could go back and have a “re-do?” Usually I'm thinking about this when I wish I could go back and come up with a pithier comeback to something someone has said to me. I'm not exactly fast on the fly that way. But lately, with all of the time travel goodness I'm watching I'm finding myself facing some much larger experiences that I would like to rethink.Read More...
