Join us as we sit at the table with Michael Doubler to discuss his book “Dixie Dewdrop,” the amazing story of his great grandfather, Uncle Dave Macon. As one of the earliest performers on WSM radio in Nashville, Uncle Dave became the Grand Ole Opry's first superstar. His old-time music and energetic stage shows made him a national sensation and fueled a thirty-year run as one of America's most beloved entertainers. Known as the “Dixie Dewdrop” Uncle Dave Macon learned the banjo from musicians passing through his parents' Nashville hotel. After playing local shows in Middle Tennessee for decades, a big break led Macon to Vaudeville, the earliest of his two hundred-plus recordings and eventually to national stardom. Uncle Dave—clad in his trademark plug hat and gates-ajar collar—soon became the face of the Opry itself with his spirited singing, humor, and array of banjo picking styles. For the rest of his life, he defied age to tour and record prolifically, manage his business affairs, and mentor up-and-coming musicians. Dr Francis Valloor is an author, international speaker and professional trainer who creates and conducts mindfulness and awareness workshops, seminars and courses in Ireland, India, the UK and USA. He is the author of ‘A Dewdrop in the Ocean – Wisdom Stories for Turbulent Times' (2009) and ‘Seeing Your Face Without A Mirror – Mindfulness Stories of Self-Realisation' (2018). Much of our discussion will gather ideas and momentum from these two books. However, Francis is a prolific writer; his other books require the same esteem and rigorous exploration. Although his lifelong quest has brought him in contact with many outstanding spiritual teachers, friends and several masters and sages, one, in particular, Anthony de Mello, is credited with setting him on the path of awareness. Following the death of his mentor and guide, Francis worked as the director of Sadhana Institute in Lonavla, India, for fourteen years before spending two years as a visiting scholar at the University of Notre Dame. Today, he resides in Dublin, Ireland, where he works as a Clinical Psychologist in private practice, primarily focussing on individual and group psychotherapy, psychological and neuropsychological assessments, relationships and mindfulness. Given the diversity of his background and work, there is so much that Dr Valloor has to offer our audience from an incredible range of personal and professional perspectives.

Floki leads Sir Parrik and Fjori against the gnolls who have overtaken Eldergrove, and a nighttime battle ensues! Additional gnolls are picked off by guerilla warfare and Young Norbert is tracked to the Feywild Portal. The group travels down to the Raided Farmstead and encounters a child zombie on the way. The zombie farmstead is dealt with and burned and evidence is discovered that the Church of Shar was somehow involved. Fjori meets a playful young griffon in the night, and then the group explores west of the Thorn River the following day. An unusual fey is encountered with an unusual request: he'd like his failed warlock taken NE of Oleg's and delivered to the Abyssal Outpost, where he will be traded for a troop of berserkers and tribal warriors. Sir Parrik accepts the quest and they head that direction, encountering bizarre weather along the way as the Drewdrop Man reminds them of their oath. On the northern side of the Delimbyr River for the first time, Floki encounters the bones of his draconic ancestor Mornagauth, slain by the fang dragon Incyzor and some druids of Talos. At the Abyssal Outpost, the trade is made with a friendly Babau demon and then the small army makes its way back to the Dewdrop Man for delivery. By the end of 14 days of adventuring, the party is back at the Raided Farmstead just in time for the hirelings they sent for to arrive!

We turn to the TV meteorologist for the forecast, but if you miss the news you might try listening to the crickets or observing the birds. Explorer Tristan Gooley joins host Krys Boyd to talk about the subtle — and not so subtle — signs nature gives us to interpret the wind, rain, snow and sun. His book is called “The Secret World of Weather: How to Read Signs in Every Cloud, Breeze, Hill, Street, Plant, Animal, and Dewdrop.”
When you're deciding what to wear in the morning, or on the viability of some activity for the weekend, you'll likely turn to a weather app to see what the forecast holds. My guest today would suggest supplementing that habit with another: actually going outside, looking at the sky and feeling the air in order to engage in an ancient and satisfying practice and build a more intimate relationship with the weather and the world around you. His name is Tristan Gooley and he's a master outdoorsman, expert natural navigator, and global adventurer, as well as the author of The Secret World of Weather: How to Read Signs in Every Cloud, Breeze, Hill, Street, Plant, Animal, and Dewdrop. Tristan and I begin our conversation with how modern meteorological science is incredibly useful, but has also disconnected us from the weather signs right in front of our faces, as well as the different microclimates that can exist even on two different sides of a tree. We then do a quick review of some of the basic scientific/meteorological principles that underlie understanding the weather, before turning to the concrete, research-backed, field-tested, signs you can observe in your environment to predict the weather, like the shape and height of clouds, and why you should check those clouds from lunchtime onward. We discuss whether there's truth to the old saying, "red sky at night, sailors' delight; red sky in morning, sailors take warning," and what changes in plants and the behavior of animals can tell you about the coming forecast, We end our conversation with how to get started today with predicting the weather using natural signs. Get the show notes at aom.is/weather. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Episode 554 of On Screen & Beyond takes us back to 1971 and the hit song "Chick-a-boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It)" by Daddy Dewdrop! His real name was Richard Monda and he joins us this week to talk about that hit and he was also a child actor! Richard talks about working with Tony Curtis in "The Midnight Story", James Dean and acting and singing in "The Eddie Cantor Story" at the age of 13! If the Evil Squid Ink doesn’t steal the Great Magician’s story magic, Ink Fairies just might deliver a book to your beside from the Timeless Library. When the Great Magician in the Kingdom of Reynes runs out of ink in his jar, he calls the Ink Fairies for help. Like all magicians, the Great Magician has a special gift that distinguishes him in the kingdoms—his is storytelling. In fact, whether or not people know it, he is responsible for writing all the stories in every kingdom of the world. After he writes the masterpieces, the Ink Fairies take his work and put them in the Timeless Library, where all stories are saved despite space or time. Then, when an author or scribe needs a story, the Ink Fairies deliver the book to his or her beside at night. When they wake in the morning, the story has been inscribed in their memory through the Magician’s spell. Of course, only the Great Magician and the Ink Fairies know this secret. If humans knew of the Magician’s power, they would be jealous and covet his magic, which they already think is their own. As Pherenice the Fairy drops off the latest batch of fairy ink, the Great Magician checks off the names of the Ink Fairies as they deliver their full ink jars: Blossom, Cherry, Dewdrop, Euclea, Flutter, Glimmer, Moonshadow, Songbird, Twinkle, Veil, and Wonderspell. Upset about a threatening letter from Evil Squid Ink at the bottom of Lake Doom, the fairies tell the Magician that their enemy has been plotting to steal the magic ink and take over the Ink Press and Timeless Library. In preparation for a long battle against the Squid Ink Army, the Ink Fairies secure the Ink Press and call for the neighboring fairies to come to their defense. However, the Magician decides he must write about what’s happening in a story, so it gets published in the human world, then they can know the lies of the Evil Squid Ink. If the story gets published, the Evil Squid will stay at the bottom of the Lake Doom in hiding, fearful that the humans will destroy him. The story must make it to the Timeless Library by midnight of the last day of the month for it to be available to its author in the current season. Otherwise, it has no chance to get published until next year, so the Magician has three days to deliver the story to the Timeless Library and its author. The Evil Squid Ink only wants to use the Ink Press and Timeless Library to promote his own meaningless and dark stories. As Pherenice and a group of fairies from neighboring kingdoms fly through the window to pick up the masterpiece “The Story of the Evil Squid Ink,” the Evil Squid Ink blows open the front door of the Great Magician’s chambers with an especially potent ink bomb. While the fairies take off to the Timeless Library with the manuscript, the Evil Squid Ink wrestles the Great Magician on the chamber floors. The Evil Squid Ink almost strangles the Magician with its tentacles until the Magician stabs him with his feather pen. The beast crawls away before the Magician can kill him, and it shrinks back into Lake Doom with his army.

Richard Monda - known to music fans as Daddy Dewdrop - had a Top 10 hit in 1971 with Chick-A-Boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It),But there's a lot more to his story than just one hit. He's been in entertainment almost of his whole life, including roles in major movies when he was a teen in the early '50s. His biggest role was as a young Eddie Cantor in the The Eddie Cantor Story. Dick has got a lot of great stories to tell. And we’ve got some of them right here, including...His experiences in the movie business and why he left it.Starting out in music in record promotion, later becoming a producer and songwriter. The TV cartoon show and the joke that inspired Chick-A-Boom.Seeing his name in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What he got out of his hit (and what he didn't).What his life is like now.And much more!.

There was a man who searched constantly for the perfect dewdrop, feeling that when he found it, his life would be complete. However, no matter how many dewdrops he stared at, there was always something missing. None matched the image he held in his mind. He rejected so many dewdrops. Like him, we search and search for that which will make our lives complete, rejecting or judging most of what we see. Yet, as we engage in Zen practice, little by little we come to realize, that each dewdrop, each person, each moment is truly perfect as it is. How thrilling.

In this episode, we explore the territory of this perennial conundrum: since the teachings say again and again that you are inherently a buddha, awakened, and that you just as you are is it, then why is it necessary to engage in practice? A short, to-the-point response: it is effective, and it helps. And yet, a bit of a non-explanation and catch-22 of sorts: in order to understand why it is necessary to practice, and to discover for yourself how it is effective and helpful, you must practice. And it is indeed paradoxical: engaging in practice that may seem somewhat foreign compared to what you're used to, breaking up your usual routines and habits, developing a structure and discipline as a means of replacing naturally-developed ways of beings with different ways of being that don't come so naturally, all in the service of getting more directly and intimately in touch with your authentic, genuine being - the being that has been there all along, from the beginning, regardless. So yeah, strange and mysterious and wondrous for sure. And worth looking into, investigating, and discovering for yourself. So please, dive on in!Support the show (https://www.paypal.me/apalmr)

Whipperginny By Robert Graves Narrated by Erin Louttit and Denis Daly This collection of fifty-three poems was written by Robert Graves between 1920 and 1923. Many of the pieces display a pastoral character and were composed in an effort by the poet to distance himself from the trauma of the First World War. The title, which is that of the first poem in the collection, refers to an obsolete card card game. Audio edited by Denis Daly This recording may be freely downloaded and distributed, as long as Voices of Today is credited as the author. It may not be used for commercial purposes or distributed in an edited or remixed form. For information about other titles in the Voices of Today catalogue please visit voicesoftoday.org
Things happen for a reason, and I really believe that, you'll understand why when you'll start listening. Simina is a BI at one of the Big Four and she loves it, but she's also a brave mother that loves to travel with her husband. She's been using essential oils for years now, and she's sharing with us how an urgent situation got her to start using them for her son and how she's been using them ever since along with her whole family. I'd really love to be able to give you a few bottles to experience the smell and the feelings you get by using the oils, it's divine. Since we joined, everyone on the team was so generous with us, especially with my love, Andrada, every oil that "called for her", found its way to her one way or another. The fact that we're doing this together makes me the happiest and I always found out, sooner or later, that Andrada's intuition was right, these oils really are amazing. You can join our team here: www.georgianbenta.com/premium We opted for the Premium Starter Kit, with the DewDrop ultrasonic diffuser, but in the States, there are so many possibilities. Feel free to contact me, or Andrada, if you have any questions whatsoever: hello@georgianbenta.com cocriua@gmail.com Or on Instagram http://instagram.com/thegratitudepodcast/ https://www.instagram.com/andrada.cocriu.photography/ We'd love to help out as much as possible and we'll continue to share our experience with the oils! Tias’s unique and skillful approach enables students to find greater depth of understanding and awareness in their practice, both on and off the mat. His approach to the practice is inter-disciplinary, passionate, intelligent, innovative and full of insight. Tias synthesizes years of study in classical yoga, Sanskrit, Buddhist studies, anatomy, massage and trauma healing. Tias began studying the work of B.K.S Iyengar in 1984 and lived in Mysore, India in 1989 studying Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Pattabhi Jois. Thus his teaching brings together precision of alignment, anatomical detail and a profound meditative experience. Tias is a licensed massage therapist and his somatic studies include in-depth training in cranial-sacral therapy. His practice and teaching is influenced by the work of Ida Rolf, Moshe Feldenkrais and Thomas Hanna. Tias is a long time student of the meditative arts and Buddhist studies beginning with Vipassana and continuing in Tibetan Buddhism and Zen. His teaching style is unique in being able to weave together poetic metaphor with clear instruction filled with compassion and humor. Tias earned a Master’s degree in Eastern Philosophy from St. John’s College Santa Fe in 1998. Tias is the author of three books, The Thread of Breath, Meditations on a Dewdrop and Yoga of the Subtle Body.
In this 4th episode of 5 on Zen master Dogen's Genjokoan (written in 1233), I discuss the image of the moon reflected in a dewdrop (ultimate reality reflected/realized by a limited person), and the metaphor of different experiences of the ocean (the nature of relative and absolute truths).
Genjo Marinello Osho gave this Teisho on the last day of Rohatsu, 2016 This case examines death poems, how to face death and why anyone would agree to be abbot of a Zen temple. What three ingredients are essential for Zen training? Who is responsible when the student/teacher relationship falls apart?
The cast and creator of the Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company's new Off Broadway production, Soul Samurai, join us for a wine induced and fun filled evening. What's Soul Samurai about? Cooler than Kill Bill, hotter than Shaft! Soul Samurai is the story of Dewdrop and her fight through the mean streets of a post-apocalyptic Brooklyn. After avenging her lover’s murder in the heart of Coney Island, Dewdrop now must make it back home to the Lower East Side before the shoguns of Kings County find her. In a play that mixes hip-hop culture, blaxploitation, and the martial arts, this production dials it back old school with this seventies-inspired samurai story. This is one slick slice with a sharp sword and a score to settle! How's that for an enticing description? Jimmy saw the show and loved it. Joe plans on seeing it soon. Listen to the cast talk about acting, inspirations for the show, movies, TV, comics, music, fight choreography, accidents, and more. We also give them a nerdy musical quiz to test their geek fu. Do they pass? Tune in to find out! Meanwhile, if you're in the NYC area, book your tickets for the show. It's getting rave reviews and selling out fast. They give a special promotional code to use for $20 tickets. You save $5! For more information, visit the Vampire Cowboys Theatre site.
There are two general types of inks that you can use, referred to as Pigment inks, which we talk about today, and Alcohal or Dye inks, which we saved for our next podcast in two weeks. The main difference between the two is that pigment inks stay where you put them, and dye inks "bleed" and tend to dye whatever clay is around them a new color. Pigment inks are created with ground pigments, much like the pigment powder we discussed last week, and a wetting agent or "binder." The simplest binder is water, but the company creating the ink decides what else to put in the ink to create it's many properties- such as how long it stays wet, how flexible it is, how opaque it is, and whether or not you need to heat set it. Most pigment inks need to be heat set on polymer clay so they won't smear. That makes using them with clay very convenient, since you have to bake it anyway! You can use pigment inks on top of uncured clay, you can mix it in to change the color of the clay, you can partially mix it in- which creates a marbled effect, you can use a stamp to make an image, you can use the stamp pad, your finger, or a brush to put ink exactly where you want it. You can put it on the raised areas of a design, or you can paint it into the cracks of a textured design. You can even use it as a mold release instead of water or cornstarch. You can stamp onto a baked piece of clay if you want to see the stamped image clearly. You can brush or smear it onto baked clay to create antiqued effects or to highlight a portion of a design. Pigment ink is so versatile with polymer clay you will never run out of ways to use it. Be sure to come back and watch Polymer Clay TV next week, when we will demonstrate everything we discussed in our podcast. Special thanks to Tsukineko- they sent us a box of goodies to try out and we selected DewDrop inks in metallic and pearlescent colors to feature in this episode, and also in Polymer Clay Classroom- our downloadable full length project tutorial where you can watch, learn, and create along with us as we make two different light switch covers using polymer clay and DewDrop inkpads. I'm publishing early tonight- Harry Potter 5 is calling and I must answer the call! I will never grow up...
