Send us a textSummaryThis episode kicks off a compelling three-part series featuring John Huber, founder of Customer Success Architects, who brings two decades of experience building CS functions across five different SaaS companies. The conversation centers on the fundamental question every growing business faces: how do you launch a customer success function that actually drives results? John shares his battle-tested approach, emphasizing the critical importance of aligning CS initiatives with company-wide strategic objectives rather than jumping straight into tactical execution. Through a fascinating case study involving a massive platform transformation for enterprise pharmaceutical and high-tech manufacturing clients, he demonstrates how proper alignment enabled a successful four-and-a-half-year migration from on-premise to cloud infrastructure without losing a single customer. This customer success playbook episode provides essential groundwork for any organization looking to build or rebuild their CS foundation.Detailed AnalysisThe discussion reveals several strategic insights that challenge conventional CS wisdom. Rather than immediately focusing on hiring CSMs or implementing technology platforms, John advocates for a "strategy-first" approach that ensures every CS initiative ladders up to broader business objectives. This methodology becomes particularly powerful when managing complex transformational projects, as evidenced by his experience migrating enterprise clients from legacy on-premise systems to modern cloud platforms. The episode highlights three critical success factors for new CS functions: strategic alignment with three-year company vision, cross-functional collaboration (especially with legal and finance teams), and allowing significantly more time than initially estimated for complex transitions. John's approach to contractual restructuring during platform migrations offers valuable lessons for companies navigating similar transformations, particularly the importance of providing financial incentives and flexible contract structures during transition periods. The conversation also underscores how customer success professionals must evolve beyond traditional support roles to become strategic business partners. John's team successfully positioned platform limitations as innovation opportunities, demonstrating the communication skills necessary to maintain customer relationships during potentially disruptive changes. For CS leaders and executives, this episode provides a practical framework for launching CS initiatives that deliver measurable business impact while maintaining strong customer relationships throughout complex organizational changes. Now you can interact with us directly by leaving a voice message at https://www.speakpipe.com/CustomerSuccessPlaybookPlease Like, Comment, Share and Subscribe. In this Brand Story episode, hosts Sean Martin and Marco Ciappelli welcome Lebin Cheng from Imperva to discuss the ever-important topic of API security. As the head of the API security team at Imperva, Lebin Cheng offers a nuanced view into the challenges and solutions involved in protecting sensitive data facilitated by APIs. A central theme of the discussion revolves around API security's complexity due to APIs' role in digital transformation, cloud migration, and data integration. APIs act as a gateway for data interaction and integration, offering flexibility but also introducing significant security risks.Cheng underscores that as APIs provide open access to critical data, they become prime targets for sophisticated cyber threats. These threats exploit vulnerabilities in API deployments, making robust security measures indispensable. Cheng highlights the importance of securing APIs not as a one-time effort but as an ongoing process. He discusses how Imperva employs real-time monitoring and behavioral analysis to enhance API security. By establishing a baseline of what constitutes normal behavior, Imperva can quickly detect and respond to anomalies. This approach goes beyond traditional, static security measures, which often fall short against dynamic threats that evolve alongside technology.Additionally, the conversation touches on the notion of 'security by design.' Cheng advocates for integrating security considerations from the earliest stages of API development. This results in more resilient applications capable of withstanding sophisticated attacks. The discussion also notes the growing trend of DevSecOps, which emphasizes the collaboration between development, security, and operations teams to embed security throughout the software development lifecycle. Real-world applications of these principles are evident in various sectors, including open banking.Cheng explains how open banking initiatives, which allow smaller financial institutions to access larger banks' data via APIs, highlight the necessity of strong API security. A breached API could expose sensitive financial data, leading to significant financial and reputational damage. The hosts and Cheng also explore how Imperva's innovation in API security involves leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning. These technologies help in identifying and mitigating potential risks by analyzing vast amounts of data to detect unusual patterns that might indicate a security threat. In closing, Cheng emphasizes the importance of continuous innovation and vigilance in the field of API security. He invites organizations to adopt a proactive stance, continuously updating their security measures to protect their data assets effectively. It can often be more than just migrating systems, so a lot of people have started to talk about cloud transformation. However, in some cases, this is just a migration. A lot of companies just lift-and-shift their databases into the cloud, along with various other services. While this is a quick way to get into the cloud, it isn't much of a transformation. If you review and right-size the resources you've provisioned, maybe there is a bit of a transformation, but not a lot. Read the rest of Cloud Transformation

The managed services market in the U.S. is a dominant force globally, as reported by IDC. Accounting for over 45% of the global contract value in the managed services sector, the U.S. outperforms regions like Western Europe. This underscores the strong presence and significant contribution of U.S.-based managed service providers. The data also indicates a steady increase in enterprise technology spending in the U.S., leading to a rise in managed services deals. Despite a decrease in the total number of deals compared to the previous year, the average deal size remained consistent, demonstrating the stability and maturity of the U.S. managed services market. Furthermore, the emphasis on AI and cloud technologies in major managed services contracts in 2024 signals a strategic shift towards cutting-edge technologies and innovation within the U.S. managed services sector. This trend positions the U.S. as a key player in driving technological advancements and delivering high-value services globally.McKinsey revealed limited non-IT benefits from cloud migration, challenging the common belief that cloud computing technology can enhance business agility and drive new revenue.
