Rob Collins of FOX4KC joins the guys to preview the Super Bowl and discuss what Super Bowl No. 2 would do for Patrick Mahomes' career trajectory. Later, the guys give their final thoughts on Illinois-Rutgers and make their predictions.
Growing up, Cam dealt with academic and social challenges. Bullying and anxiety led him to join a boxing gym to protect himself. Cam had tried out but was unable to make any teams he tried out for. Boxing was the only available choice since no team had to be made. Cam quickly fell in love with the sport. He realized his potential to be great and dedicated every waking moment to be the best boxer possible. Cam's mental toughness served as his superpower in the ring. Within 2 years in the sport in 2008, Cam won the National Championship claiming the title as the #1 Super Heavyweight boxer in the country. Cam holds 4 Golden Gloves Championships, 6 US Championships, 3 PAL National Championships, 6 Ringside Championships, and 3 Olympic Trials. Cam holds the title as the Winningest Boxer in USA Boxing history. Cam's accomplishments are impressive but pale in comparison to the losses he has accumulated to reach this point. His story of resilience is so inspiring it's featured in the NETFLIX Original documentary COUNTERPUNCH. During his motivational speeches he shares how he faced adversities in and outside of the ring with a Championship Mindset. Boxing is the greatest metaphor because everyone is fighting their own battles. This is what makes Cam's message so relatable. "If you can fail without being discouraged, success becomes inevitable" is a quote that Cam lives by. Cam's secret to remaining resilient through ups and downs is keeping a positive mindset through practicing gratitude. Cam has been featured in several print and internet publications and digital media outlets, including: ESPN, Sports Nation, ESPN's Highly Questionable, Washington Post, Yahoo! Sports,Team USA, Bleacher Report, Rolling Stone, SB Nation, Kansas City Star, SI.com, ESPN Radio, Fox4KC, Mashable.com, Boxing News Online, The Sweet Science, news.com, Viva La Vegan, National Post, among many others. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for November 20, 2022 is: extirpate EK-ster-payt verb Extirpate means “to destroy completely,” and is often—though not exclusively—used in reference to plant and animal populations. It can also be used to mean “to pull up by the root” and “to cut out by surgery.” // Despite the years-long effort to extirpate it from the landscape, purple loosestrife continues to thrive in the town's wetlands. // The district attorney is vowing to extirpate political corruption from City Hall if she is elected mayor. See the entry > Examples: “Peregrine falcons were once extirpated from Missouri due to pesticide damage to eggs and habitat loss. They have been on the state's endangered species list but are being considered for removal, thanks to a cooperative program by Midwestern state and federal wildlife agencies. Re-introductions and nest boxes placed high on tall buildings in cities or power plant smokestacks have boosted their numbers.” — Brian Dulle, Fox4kc.com, 8 July 2021 Did you know? You don't have to dig too deep into the history of extirpate to discover that its roots are in, well, roots (and stumps). Extirpate grew out of a combining of the Latin prefix ex-, meaning “out,” and the Latin noun stirps, “trunk” or “root.” Among the earliest definitions of extirpate in English were “to uproot” and “to clear of stumps,” as well as the broader meaning of “to destroy completely” or “wipe out.” While today we often encounter extirpate in relation to plant and animal species that have been regrettably removed from a specific region or in total, intangibles such as evil or prejudice, for example, may also be extirpated. We hope this helps but if you find yourself stumped the next time you encounter extirpate, just remember we're rooting for you.
Four teams remain, with one of them set to be crowned the champions of Super Bowl 56 in two weeks. But first, they have to get through this week, which is set up top be quite the encore for last weeks madness. Can it be even better? Might be an impossible task, but needless to say I am HYPE for these games! Thumbnail courtesy of Fox4KC
Fox 4 and the Kansas City Star have a regular roundtable they share on their websites. Here's a long piece of my appearance with former co-workers John Holt and Dave Helling. It was fun, but serious at times. I'm so honored they asked me to join them! To hear it all or see the complete video, visit Fox4kc.com or Kansascity.com.
The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the most dynamic young quarterbacks in all of football. And they have recently made certain he isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The Chiefs and Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes have reached agreement on a 10-year contract extension that ties him to Kansas City through the 2031 season, the team announced. The contract is worth a staggering $450 million over the 10-year period and could be worth up to $503 million. The extension includes a $140 million injury guarantee, as well as a no-trade clause. With the massive deal now behind him, is there increased pressure on Mahomes to repeat as a champion next season? What sort of impact will the contract have on the Chiefs and the league going forward? Harold Kuntz is a Sports Anchor/Reporter at Fox4kc he joined me this week to go over the numbers, the impact of the contract and more. You can follow Harold on Twitter @HaroldRKuntz3
Singer-songwriter Katie Pruitt is exploding across the United States with her first album, "Expectations." The 25-year-old Georgia-native’s debut album is a coming-of-age story about her life, sexuality and experience growing up in the Christian-South. While the novel coronavirus is sweeping across the country, Crazeology will not be featuring the long-form interviews like in the past. Hear songs from Pruitt’s new album above, or wherever you get your podcasts.
After last years terrible floods, many folks who were directly affected want to know if this spring will be a repeat. This podcast with Scott Watson, a hydrologist with the NWS, talks about the the differences this year compared to last year and why we can't let our guard down right now.
As COVID-19 continues to affect nearly every aspect of American's lives, we sat down with emergency medical specialist Dr. Michael Shafe to separate fact from fiction. Listen to this ER doctor give real answers about this sickness that has caused a world-wide pandemic, and find out what you should be doing to prevent its spread.
Last year was one of the most devastating years for flooding throughout the Midwest. For more than 270 days in 2019, parts of the surrounding Kansas City area were under flood warnings. Scott Watson, a hydrologist from the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, talks to Joe about the setup to last year and what made the flooding some of the worst in history.
Nixa, Missouri-native Tyler Giles has an ability to quiet rooms and make you feel like his songs are about your own life. He attributes his musical stylings to listening to honkey-tonk growing up, but his music is far from just a simple version of country. Listen to the artist talk about his life, music and influences, including two previously unrecorded songs, in this episode of Crazeology.
Three races into the NASCAR Cup Series 2020 season and we have three different winners with three different teams. The restarts have been amazing and 7-time champion Jimmie Johnson is even making a couple top 10 finishes. Sam and Brian are in the FOX4 Racezone to talk about the racing so far this season and what drivers need to start stepping it up. Also a big talk this week has been the Next Gen car announcement with NASCAR going to a single lug-nut design.
If you run a private business, especially if you rely on specific weather information to either make or lose money, there is a weather service based out of Kansas City that can help you stay ahead of the competition. I talk to Sara Croke from the private weather company "Weather Or Not" based here in KC about her business and her career. Some of you may remember that she was on TV back in the day.
Denny Hamlin wins his third Daytona 500 victory and days after being involved in a horrific lap on the last lap, Ryan Newman is walking out of the hospital. Safe to say it has been one insane start to the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season. Sam Atwell and Brian Dulle are back in the FOX4 Race Zone to break it all down.
Many music experts would agree, the modern era of blues started with Robert Johnson. He inspired generations of musicians, and his signature sounds can be heard sometimes coming out of the guitar of J.D. Simo. Hear Simo talk about his roots of a guitarist from Chicago, Illinois, to his days now traveling around the U.S.
No polar vortexes? We’re about halfway through the winter season, and we’re seeing some strange things happen. FOX4 meteorologist Joe Lauria discusses odd temperatures in Kansas City mixed with changing snowfall across the country (what’s up with all the snow in Texas?). All of this, plus an uneasy feeling about flooding predictions come this spring.
FOX4KC's Harold Kuntz is a guess on this week's show. The women's revolution turns 5 years old so we take a look back at some of the highlights, but we also discuss some wrestlers who were in the divas' era that would have done well. Also, we look at the road to WrestleMania as it is shaped today. Do we have that feel-good story? Can Drew McIyntre really beat Brock? Finally, we preview NXT Takeover Portland. For the first time in FOX4 Weather history, we have five full-time meteorologists on staff. No other station in KC has that. This podcast introduces you to our newest team member, Alex Countee. He's from Kansas City, and that makes his career move even more special... getting to do what he loves in the town that he grew up in.

A way to communicate his struggles with mental health. Listen to Dieden talk about his music and life in this episode of Crazeology. Warning: This podcast has curse words and content some may not find suitable for children. Discretion advised.
2019 has ended, and what a year it was in the weather world in the KC area. Sure there were the usual nice days, but there was a tremendous amount of active weather... ranging from blizzards to flooding rains and a lot of other events in between. Meteorologist Michelle Bogowith sat in on Joe's Weather World as they discussed the Top 4 weather events (and other stuff) of 2019!

How did Pierpont's get its name? And what does it have to do with Jingle Bells? FOX4's Nick Vasos sat down with the restaurant's strategic marketer Stephen Valenti to talk Union Station fun facts, booze trivia and the incredible food they serve. What started off as a seafood restaurant is now a full-blown steakhouse that often features new seasonal dishes. KC Originals is a monthly series where we talk to members of the KC Originals restaurant group, a group of restaurateurs who all started in the metro.
As part of my continuing podcast series regarding the changing climate, Jimmy Adagoke, a professor of Geosciences from UMKC, stopped by for round 2. We talked about some of the changes taking place now, not only here, but regionally and globally. We talk about the strengths of climate models and their weaknesses and also reveal what they show for the future. Also I wanted to ask about how climate change affects the land and oceans differently. For more general information on climate change, listen to "Climate Change: How It's Different From Weather."
Taylor Swift was doing her thing. Before her concert started, she stood backstage, greeting fans and posing for photos. It all seemed pretty normal. Then, a Denver morning radio DJ named David Mueller approached her with his then-girlfriend, Shannon Melcher. Taylor chatted with Shannon. But when it was time to take the photo, Taylor says that something shocking happened. David reached up the back of her dress and grabbed her bare ass. Then Brandi tells us about the senseless, horrifying murder of Ali Kemp. Ali was a 19-year-old college student working at an upscale neighborhood pool one summer when she was brutally murdered. Her body was discovered in the pool house, hours after she’d been attacked. But who could have done such a thing? Ali didn’t have any known enemies. For a while, it seemed like the case might go cold. But Ali’s dad, Roger Kemp, fought tirelessly to bring his daughter’s killer to justice. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Ex-DJ says $1 payment to Taylor Swift sent by mail last week,” Associated Press “DJ who lost Taylor Swift groping case has a new job,” by Lisa Respers France, CNN “Taylor Swift was groped by radio host, jury finds,” by Donna Bryson, New York Times “Judge drops complaint aimed at Taylor Swift in groping case brought by DJ,” by Donna Bryson, New York Times “Taylor Swift won her day in court. As part of my continuing podcasts regarding the changing climate, Jimmy Adagoke, a professor of Geosciences from UMKC and an award winning climate scientist, stopped by to chat. My conversation with him is dedicated to the difference between climate and weather, what climate change is, how greenhouse gases are factoring into the changes and some of the science behind the changes taking place. Our discussion is split into two parts, and this is the first.
New Royals Manager Mike Matheny visited FOX4 recently for an exclusive inside look into his personality, his managing style and his expectations for the team. Some have questioned the hire after Matheny was let go from a 6-and-a-half-year stint with the Cardinals. However, some fans are hopeful that he's the guy to breath new life into the team, which only won a third of their games in 2019. FOX4 Sports Reporter Harold Kuntz has the interview, only here on Signal Hill.
The band Yes You Are is creating something unique, with a lot of thought and craftsmanship behind its lyrics. The husband-wife duo of Kianna Aladrid and Jared White have been writing the bands lyrics for years, finishing each other’s lyrics in new and interesting ways. What is their connection to poet T.S. Eliot? Find out in this episode Crazeology.
As the weather and the climate changes, an organization in Kansas City is looking at ways of adapting to the changes and work with others to try and affect ways of adapting. The group is called Climate Action KC, and this podcast is about their efforts and what they hope to achieve in our communities. I spoke with Lindsay Constance and Mike Kelly about the organization.
Kevin Harvick now joins Martin Truex Jr. after his win at Texas Sunday to be locked in for a run at the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Championship at Homestead. Bad luck continued to follow Chase Elliott who was already in a must win situation after having mechanical trouble at Martinsville. Hamlin came into the race second in points but after leaves Texas fifth and 20 points behind Logano in fourth. Sam Atwell and Brian Dulle discuss what drivers besides Truex and Harvick are most likely to move on with a shot at the championship at this point. Only three drivers in the last 20 years have won more than one NASCAR cup championship. They are Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson.
Sherae Honeycutt is a videojournalist who has helped bring back the segment, Thursday's Child. Each month, Sherae will introduce to you to kids and teens in our community who are hoping to meet people they may one day call their parents. In part 1 of my podcast with veteran Kansas City TV personality, Joel Nichols, we visited about some of his favorite parts of doing television. In this podcast we revisit his weather casting career. Find out what happens when you cover severe weather at the same time that the 10 Commandments is airing on your station. He also brings us up to date about what he's doing these days.
Country music has been popular for the better part of the past century, and a new documentary by Ken Burns has a lot of people reminiscing about the “good old days” of the genre. In this episode of Crazeology, Kendall Swank sits down and talks with the Kansas City Cowboy Dusty Rust about the artists of the past, and how they’ve inspired Rust in his style of country music.
Denny Hamlin was the car to beat October 20, 2019 in a chaotic elimination race at Kansas Speedway. Four more drivers, including Kansas native Clint Bowyer, are now out. Chase Elliott had a fast car and was in a must win situation to move on. Or so everyone thought. Luck seemed to go his way as Brad Keslowski had trouble and ended up below the cut line. Sam Atwell and Brian Dulle discuss Sunday's race and what we can expect with just four races left in the 2019 season.
After Talladega, Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney remain the only drivers locked into the NASCAR round of 8. The three Hendrick drivers in the playoffs are all in a must win situation along with Kansas native Clint Bowyer.
