Um homem foi chamado à praia para pintar um barco. Trouxe com ele tinta e pincéis, e começou a pintar o barco de um vermelho brilhante, como fora contratado para fazer. Enquanto pintava, viu que a tinta estava passando pelo fundo do barco. Percebeu que havia um vazamento e decidiu consertá-lo. Quando terminou a pintura, recebeu seu dinheiro e se foi. No dia seguinte, o proprietário do barco procurou o pintor e presenteou-o com um belo cheque. O pintor ficou surpreso: O senhor já me pagou pela pintura do barco! - disse ele. - Mas isto não é pelo trabalho de pintura. É por ter consertado o vazamento do barco. - Ah!, mas foi um serviço tão pequeno... Certamente, não está me pagando uma quantia tão alta por algo tão insignificante! - Meu caro amigo, você não compreende. Deixe-me contar-lhe o que aconteceu. Quando pedi a você que pintasse o barco, esqueci de mencionar o vazamento. Quando o barco secou, meus filhos o pegaram e saíram para uma pescaria. Eu não estava em casa naquele momento. Quando voltei e notei que haviam saído com o barco, fiquei desesperado, pois lembrei-me que o barco tinha um furo. Imagine meu alívio e alegria quando os vi retornando sãos e salvos. Então, examinei o barco e constatei que você o havia consertado! Percebe, agora, o que fez? Salvou a vida de meus filhos! Não tenho dinheiro suficiente para pagar a sua "pequena" boa ação. Não importa para quem, quando ou de que maneira: mas, ajude, ampare, enxugue as lágrimas, escute com atenção e carinho, e conserte todos os "vazamentos" que perceber, pois nunca sabemos quando estão precisando de nós ou quando Deus nos reserva a agradável surpresa de ser útil e importante para alguém.
