Prayer offers us a sacred space in which God can work. Sacred means a place and time we set aside to be alone with God. In other words, it's a ‘Godspace' – where we deliberately step aside from the normal distractions of life. Prayer, self-evidently, is continuous when we choose to practise it as Paul encourages (1 Thess. 5:17), but there can be set times of more focused prayer.

Episode Summary: Do you ever start reading a book and feel like the author just ripped your thoughts and feelings from your mind and wrote them down much more poetically and eloquently than you could? Then as you read along feel a sense of validation for some crazy, out-of-the-box beliefs you have because someone else was published for sharing them? Ok, so maybe that is just me, but that is how I felt reading The Gift of Wonder. When I reached out to tell Christine Sine how connected I felt to her book and she responded with an offer to join me on my podcast, I was thrilled. I pray you are as encouraged by her creative and playful take on spiritual practices as I am, and that you will be inspired to step out-of-the-box with the ways you connect to God throughout your day. Christine's Bio: “Christine Aroney-Sine is the founder and facilitator for the popular contemplative blog Godspace, (godspacelight.com) which grew out of her passion for creative spirituality, gardening and sustainability. Christine describes herself as a contemplative activist, passionate gardener, author, and liturgist. She loves messing with church traditions and inspiring followers of Jesus to develop creative approaches to spirituality that intertwine the sacred through all of life. She facilitates workshops on contemplative and creative spiritual practices, spirituality and gardening, simplicity and sustainability as well as how to develop a more spiritual rhythm for our lives. She often encourages participants to paint rocks or leaves, plant contemplative gardens, walk labyrinths and create spiritual pathways that draw us into deeper intimacy with God. Christine is inspired by Celtic Christian spirituality, which has opened her eyes to the God who is present in every moment, every experience and every place. She is open to learning from everyone and everything around.” Verses from the episode: Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Luke 18:16 Links from the episode: (This may contain some affiliate links, which means I receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you, if you make a purchase using these links. I have been mulling over the idea that we can competently create convenience. I think my next Master Class will be on deliberately creating serendipities.Last night my husband and I were Christmas shopping. When we couldn’t find what I was looking for I mentioned what I actually wanted to get and it was magically three inches away! Necessity is the mother of invention. Problems are a blessing so we can create solutions as we synergistically come together. Even complaining about something can be a round about way of eventually getting what we want! Just making a problem known is all that is needed to start the creative process of finding a solution.Fear and limiting beliefs are the breaks to our competent creation while gratitude and faith is the glue that brings things inseparably together into something whole. We reach the level of confident, unconscious, competent creation when it becomes automatic and habitual to create with pure intent.Today I give myself permission to live in the Godspace of competent creation I am trusted with higher knowledge and understandingI am confidently, competently creatingSerendipities are consistently part of my lifeI am in faith and gratitude as I unconsciously competently createI speed up my creation with confidence in myself and GodI am in gratitude for my life! When working with PTSD clients, I often use a visualization to help them separate the spirit from the body in their imagination. When I create the initial spiritual blueprint of a physical manifestation, I have to go to a spiritual creation space to visualize. At those times, my body is still living and breathing, but it’s just sitting there waiting for my spirit to consciously return. How powerful it is to separate our body and spirit consciously and then bring them back together to create something even better. There is a natural glow – sort of like Light shining through their eyes, when people live in their purpose and passion in support of their spiritual journey. In this life we journey here as a spirit to learn about physical experiences. There is such ease and peace when we are living in our alignment and purpose. We get to take the knowledge, wisdom, and who we have become when we leave this life. Counterfeits and illusions only exist in the physical world. We see truth when we go to purely spiritual and tap into the roots and gifts we came with.Today I give myself permission to see dormant spiritual gifts I am vibrantly alive and excited about my lifeI am turning outward to shine Christ’s lightI am bringing my gifts into the spotlightI live in my spiritual truthI am caring for my physical body as the gift it isI return to Godspace anytime I need to visit my visionClick Here for more info on living a life of gratitude.Click Here to find out how to join the Gratitude Call live every weekday morning at 7 am Mountain Time.Click Here to join the “Breakthrough with Gratitude!” Facebook Group. Amos 9:14 NLT  'I will bring my exiled people of Israel back from distant lands, and they will rebuild their ruined cities and live in them again. They will plant vineyards and gardens; they will eat their crops and drink their wine.' Taken from everything familiar and placed in an alien culture, today there are more than 30 million refugees and a further 41 million displaced people in our world. More than half of the refugees are under 18 years old. Every one of these people is an image-bearer of God. Each with a home and a history now behind them and out of reach or immediate recovery. Having visited refugee camps, these are not any place I’d want my family, friends or foes to be forced to live. We can expect personal discomfort when we are disturbed and forced to abandon those things that are familiar to us, yet not within God’s purpose for us. Certainly, when I first became a Christian it was like entering an alien territory. I had no understanding of the liturgy in the Anglican church I joined. I’d never owned or read a Bible or said a formal prayer. Here a new world opened before me. Here I might flourish and rebuild credentials lost in my transfer from the kingdom of darkness. Then reality dawned. I had to return and live a different life in what had been my old stamping ground. I was returned from exile to establish a new life in my original homeland. The camaraderie forged through exile was lost as I struggled to create a new garden in a hostile landscape. My connections, lifestyle choices and perceptions had all been challenged. How was I to create a Godspace within a familiar yet strange landscape? This is the way of God. Returning us from an exile into our original landscape and inviting us to rebuild a life that reflects the character and call of God. QUESTION: Returning to your old world, bringing God’s love to your old haunts, how easy or hard is that for you? PRAYER: Help me be a light-bearer into dark places today.

Mary DeJong, ecotheologian, shares a different paradigm in how we can transform our relationship with the "more than human world". With climate change on the rise, and shifts in our bioregion, ecogrief is real. This interview covers an important conversation in how we can converse and align with our natural world, other than to use it as simply a resource to serve us. Instead, we have so much to learn and gain if we related differently with the "more than human world", and how we can return home to ourselves in a way that is inclusive, whole, and holy.Mary DeJongMary DeJong is the person behind the work of Waymarkers. As a long-time urban naturalist, and practitioner and guide of place-based pilgrimage, DeJong received her Masters in Theology & Culture from The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology with a focus in EcoTheology; earned her Religion and Ecology certification from Yale’s Divinity School and School of Forestry, overseen by Mary Evelyn Tucker, John Grim, and Brian Swimme; and received her post-graduate certificate in EcoPsychology through Pacifica Graduate Institute. Mary's book, Waymarkers (2011), is heralded by pilgrims globally who long to journey to Iona with intention and purpose. Psalm 16:7-8 NLT I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. Albert Camus, the French philosopher, recognised that “life is the sum of all [our] choices”. Our choices, often made with little thought as to consequence and ultimate purpose, will define our imprint in the earth. While it is easy to justify our actions to ourselves and others through rationalisation, history is littered with dictators who, judged harshly now, made a rational argument that persuaded others to work with them. The gospel is clear. God is no enforcer. God leaves us to draw our own conclusion from all that is revealed within scripture and through Church tradition. From those conclusions our decisions are made. Once we have accepted the need for change, many choices confront us. What will our attitude be? How will we transition through the change, chosen or enforced? Will we display God’s grace? It is the opportunity to find and to live the Christian message, or a time when we react from emotions and thoughts that have not been subject to God’s scrutiny. Viktor Frankl, the brilliant neurologist, psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor wrote: “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom.” That space is for me the Godspace. I enter it and must remember to pause. I can make a choice, or be subject to the emotional forces stimulated by hurt and hatred. Yet, if I am to press deeper towards God’s heart, I must choose to take a decision inspired by God’s values. Such choices, though hard, will change my life, and often other lives too. I may need to experience a number of wrong choices en route to the best choice. But the choice is always mine to make. QUESTION: What past hurts threaten to cloud your mind or poison your judgement? PRAYER: Help me to pause and be guided by your Spirit, so my past does not determine my future choices.

This podcast episode relates beautifully to the 'Life-Giving Rhythms' map from 'Listen to My Life: Maps for Recognizing and Responding to God in My Story' life-mapping materials by http://www.onelifemaps.com. Even if you have yet to engage in this life-enhancing process, you'll enjoy the possibilities Christine Sine opens to you as she looks at many activities as spiritual practices to help you connect with God, who is always present.I choose to breathe in the wonder of God's eternal love, And dance to the rhythm of eternal breath, Listening to the whispers calling me to slow down and take notice. I choose to absorb the beauty of the divine presence, to delight in the Creator of all things and relish the delight God takes in me. Can you imagine a God who dances with shouts of joy, laughs when you laugh, loves to play, enjoys life, and invites us to join the fun? Like many of us, Christine Sine had spent many years with an image of God who was "a very serious, workaholic type of God." And even when her theology told her this was not true, she struggled to live into this new way of thinking. What she needed was a childlike spirituality. In this book, Christine Sine, online host of the Godspace community, invites us to pay attention to childlike characteristics that have the power to reshape us. Each chapter addresses a childlike characteristic to embrace, including delight, playfulness, imagination, awe and wonder, love of nature, the ability to live in the present, and much more. Fresh spiritual practices that engage all our senses help us live a new spiritual life that embraces the wonder and joy that God intends for us.Christine Aroney-Sine is the founder and facilitator for God Space, an online community that grew out of her passion for creative spirituality, gardening, and sustainability. She and her husband, Tom, are cofounders of Mustard Seed Associates. Christine trained as a physician in Australia, practiced in New Zealand, and developed and directed the healthcare ministry for Mercy Ships.
