Special Guest: Former Texas Governor Rick Perry Join Marcus and Melanie on this week's Team Never Quit Podcast for an incredible conversation with former Texas Governor Rick Perry, as we dive into everything from rodeos to revolutionary treatments for veterans. Topics Covered: ✅ Best Bar-B-Que Spots – During a lively discussion about the best Bar-B-Que spots, the consensus was clear—Texas is home to some of the best Bar-B-Que in the world. Many memorable places were mentioned: Truth Bar-B-Que in the Heights and in Brenham. As well as Merric Meat Company in Roundtop, TX. Franklin Barbecue in Austin tops the list with its legendary brisket, while Snow's BBQ in Lexington, helmed by the iconic pitmaster Tootsie Tomanetz, remains a Saturday morning pilgrimage for smoked meat lovers. One of Marcus' favorite spots is Tejas Bar-B-Que and Chocolate Factory, in Tomball, TX, as well as The County Line Bar-B-Que in Waller, TX. Governor Perry states: “Brisket and sausage – nothing else even gets close. Our Bar-B-Que is the best in the world.” But one thing is certain—Texans take their Bar-B-Que as seriously as their state pride. ✅ How Marcus & Governor Perry Met – A story of friendship, leadership, and shared purpose. ✅ Morgan Luttrell's Helicopter Crash – The harrowing experience of Marcus' twin brother, Navy SEAL Morgan Luttrell. ✅ Ibogaine Treatment – A step-by-step breakdown of this groundbreaking therapy for PTSD and TBI. ✅ Stanford Study on Ibogaine – The latest research and findings on this alternative treatment. ✅ Texas Ibogaine Initiative – Governor Perry's goals to bring this life-changing treatment to Texas. ✅ Marcus & Amber Capone's Mission – How they're saving lives by providing funding to help over 1,000 veterans seeking Ibogaine therapy. ✅ Unbelievable Survival Story – A former vet from the third Ranger Battalion had a jump accident where his parachute didn't open, leading to a TBI for 17 years — until he found hope with Ambio and Ibogaine treatment. Don't miss this powerful conversation about healing, resilience, and the future of treatment for our veterans. In This Episode You Will Hear: • I made that fateful statement: “Hey if you're ever through Austin, come by and see us.” Fat chance you're gonna get into the Governor's mansion, right? (10:48) • As we make progress on getting Ibogaine off of schedule 1 and through clinical trials, that facilities will have Ibogaine available to treat traumatic brain injuries. (21:14) • There is a way to regenerate the brain. (23:22) • If you don't want to quit, generally speaking, you're not gonna. (31:42) • Ibogaine. 1 treatment. Within 48 hours the desire is gone. The withdrawals – gone. (33:32) • Ibogaine is on schedule 1. Schedule 1 is addictive, and that is has no medical purpose. (35:56) • The best part about this is that you can't lie t it. (36:25) • I tell people, “Be curious, lean into this.” (40:42) • I think there are a lot of people who are starting clinics. Go somewhere reputable. Do your homework. Make sure there's coaching before. (59:26) • We spend billions of dollars in this state to treat people who have mental health issues. (61:39) • There's no reason why the state legislature wouldn't go, you know what? We need to make this available. (64:57) • I think that use of Ibogaine is another one that could have a massively powerful, positive effect on this country – I think even in the world. (69:51) • For the naysayers and those who still are not believers, we're gonna prove it to you. Today, we bring an unconventional podcast to the Team Never Quit table. We are in San Diego and joining Marcus, Melanie, and Hunter is our favorite Texan, former Governor Rick Perry. Governor Perry brings an incredible knowledge of Texas history, which ties right in to Marcus' idea of adding a few minutes in each week's podcast to Texas Tidbits, where we talk about historical info, fun facts, Texas recommendations, food suggestions, Texas etiquette, etc. And who better to kick off Texas Tidbits than the longest serving governor in Texas history. We talk Texas Tidbits, and take a deep dive of the first time Marcus and the Governor met, exactly 17 years ago in San Diego. In this episode you will hear: • [Marcus] Longest serving governor in Texas history, then Secretary of Energy. (4:30) • Agriculture has an inordinate impact on me, as it does on the state of Texas. (12:08) • The greatest governor in Texas history. Nobody even comes in a close second, in my opinion – Sam Houston. (14:02) • [Sam Houston] could probably have been elected President of the United States, had he stayed in the race in 1860. And had he won, I don't think we would've had a civil war. (14:24) • [Sam Houston] brought Texas into the nation. (15:33) • When he left his house, [Sam Houston's mother said to him: “And remember, my son, the door of the cottage will be forever open to a courageous man of honor, but it will be closed forever to a coward.” (16:22) • The second greatest governor, in my opinion – Dolph Briscoe. (18:41) • He [Dolph Briscoe] helped put into play the Farm to Market Road system, and helped put into place the Screwworm Eradication Program. (19:19) • Eisenhower put into place the Interstate Highway System. For every 5 miles, you have to have a straight 1mile piece of road. (22:42) • Governing's not hard: Don't overtax, don't over regulate, don't over litigate, and have a skilled workforce. (24:52)
As former President Donald Trump continues to fend off attacks from former cabinet members, former Governor of Texas and Secretary of Energy under President Donald Trump Rick Perry weighs in on the work he has been doing on energy and sports gambling since leaving his post as Secretary. Plus, Governor Perry tells stories from his time in the Trump Administration, as well as lessons learned from a Bible study group organized by cabinet members. Later, Ben reflects on the interview and shares his analysis. Follow Ben on Twitter: @BDomenech Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
He's a former Secretary of the Environment, and Texas' longest-serving Governor, and now Rick Perry is joining Brandt Iden and Brendan Bussmann on the World Series of Politics. Governor Perry believes legislation from Senator Lois Kolkhorst and Representative Jeff Leach, that paves the way for a public vote on sports betting regulation, is the best way to bring legal wagering to the Lone Star State.
Actress Wendy Moniz joined me in The Locher Room. Wendy made her television debut playing "Dinah Marler" on the CBS daytime drama Guiding Light. This week's TNQP guest needs no introduction. Former Texas Governor Rick Perry joins Marcus and Morgan, bringing to the table surprising stories of events and experiences with “The Luttrell Boys” – some previously known, and some unknown. Character and heroism are on full display in this episode, and Governor Perry makes no bones about how he feels about both of these patriots. In this episode you will hear: A call comes in from the command post. “Governor, there's a young man down who said that you told him if he was ever through Austin to come by. Just to let you know, he's here.” And I said, “Okay, what's his name?” “Marcus Luttrell.” And I was like, “Hmmm…. Send him in.” [Morgan] We've always started at the bottom and worked our way up. It was a fluid transition from the enlisted ranks. If you want to effect change, then it's time for you to man up and fill the seat. Quit yelling at the TV. I get frustrated with the government from time to time. Dr. Stanley Jones, I will always hold him in a special place because of his agreeing to do that initial work for Marcus. When you [Morgan] crashed and ended up at the same place as Marcus, that was God's way of tapping Marcus on the shoulder and saying “Hey dude, you gotta take care of your brother.” The thing that amazes me about you guys is your fortitude after catastrophic injuries. You guys have the most amazing discipline and character. You reflect everything as a Texan. Texans and all Americans appreciate what you guys are all about. They need people like you in the United States Congress, to show them what the military should be about. You are fiercely loyal to your family, to your God, and to your state. Team Never Quit is a really interesting concept, and no two people give a better reflection of that than Marcus and Morgan Luttrell. I think America will be better off with another one of the Luttrell boys staying in the fight.

One of the original Thirteen Colonies, South Carolina had signed the Declaration of Independence and was the 8th State to ratify the Constitution on May 23rd, 1788. Mississippi had been a state for now over 40 years. It was reaching the point where only the older generation remembered when it was an open territory against the vast western frontier. Though not as young as Oregon or Minnesota or California, Florida, on the other hand, had only been a state for 15 years, only just over half a year older than Texas. It was entirely possible that there had been many in the state who remembered what it was like before the Florida Purchase Treaty ceded the Spanish territory to the US in 1822, combining East and West Florida into the Florida Territory. Yet on January 10th, 1861, Florida would become the third state to secede from the Union. Once declared a “Free and Independent State” in its Constitution, it was now ready to declare itself an “Sovereign and Independent Nation” in an open convention that agreed by a vote of sixty-two to seven to leave the “the Confederacy of States existing under the name of the United States of America”. Even before Florida seceded, Governor Madison Perry foresaw the possibility of withdrawal as a potential option, and even perhaps an inevitable necessity. A small state in terms of population, the economy was reliant on slavery as a cheap source of labor to ensure its prosperity. Though the issue of slavery, or, as the Mississippi Ordinance of Secession passed the day prior referred to it, property never arose in the third state’s own declaration, it had to be a prevalent thought in the minds of all voting Floridians. Of the just over 140,000 people who lived in the state, almost 62,000 of them were slaves. If the system were to be challenged, or changed then the economy would collapse. Three wars with the Seminoles Indians had already been fought, at least in part, because they provided sanctuary and safety to runaway slaves. Perry encouraged the state to reinstate the militia even as it was being dissolved in 1858. Yet, prone to drunkenness, claiming to be on patrol when they were at home working their fields, the militia had lost the trust of the people. Still, Perry was right, and following the vote for secession, he demanded the complete evacuation of all Federal Government Troops from Florida soil. When the Confederacy would be formed Florida would be one of the Original 6 founding states. Texas would be admitted before fighting would break out in the South, while the remaining 4 states would join after. Far to the South, it would not see much fighting nor many battles before the end of the War, and Tallahassee would be the only Southern Capital that had not been captured by the Union Army before the end of the War. Yet, even as the dreams of the Confederacy died, Governor John Milton, the successor to Governor Perry, would declare he would rather die than live under the flag of the Union and what he would call the odious character of the Yankee. With the end of the war just over a month away, and the weight of everything bearing down on him he would shoot himself in the head. Regardless, the nation was lining up and the lines were being drawn as the nation prepared to answer, with force, the question they struggled and failed to answer with their pens over the course of the past 84 years. War was coming and it would be the bloodiest ever faced by America as brother quickly turned against brother in the great conflict.
Benji Backer and Dan Roth join the show to discuss Colin Kaepernick's refusal to stand for the flag, remaking Mary Poppins and whether Governor Perry can succeed on Dancing with the Stars... but first, Christmas music, Norway's wall, and more!

We all hate the destruction that feral hogs create in Texas. That's why we shoot them and trap them to no end. Our buddy Don Gresham of Montague County, Texas has been in the hog trap building business for some time. I have seen firsthand how he has incorporated technology into his trapping and I [...]

Now Gov. Perry is off to Dubai! Outrageous UPDATE by: Branded Brazoria link Did I miss something? When exactly did Dubai and Texas become such buddies we seem to be on a corporation and politicians exchange program? While I like Dubai, especially their indoor snow skiing center, in the desert, what exactly is Governor Perry doing going while in the midst of a very important legislative session? Seriously, it's not like the Texas Legislator is in session for long drawn out periods of time, but ol' Perfect Hair has taken his wife and a couple of aides for a week long trip around the Persian Gulf. Breaking News!! TYC Juvenile Sex Scandal ousts TYC Board's Resignation by: refinish69 link I guess they had to wait till Perry was out of town so he didn't have to answer any questions. TYC Board Resigns After Approving Rehabilitation Plan Board members of the state's troubled youth prison system resigned en masse Friday. The members of the Texas Youth Commission board acted after recommending a system-wide rehabilitation plan. That calls for stricter inmate supervision and new procedures for reporting and investigating sex abuse allegations. Media Matters Sunday Campaign Deserves Your Attention by: krazypuppy link On our left bar, you'll find an advertisement for what I call Media Matters Take Back Sunday campaign. Instead of linking here, I ask you to click the advertisement since it helps TexaKaos.com out. The campaign is based off their report which found that news programs on Sunday still favor Republicans and rightwing viewpoints despite the 2006 election results. Sunday news shows, despite the relatively small audience, set up the news cycle for the week and greatly influence the frame for Americans who watch and drive the news. Introducing the Man Who Will Beat John Cornyn by: boadicea link From the diaries. Richard Morrison ran one of the strongest netroots campaigns in the 2004 cycle against Tom DeLay. He's having some password troubles, so I'm posting this on his behalf. Boadicea In 2004, when I challenged Tom Delay at the height of his power, it was seen as a fool's errand. The Majority Leader of the House was considered unassailable. I and my campaign team assailed him nonetheless, because it was a job that needed doing. When we held him to 55%, it was clear that Fortress Delay had more than a few cracks. In 2008, we have another job that needs doing. Time to replace John Cornyn in the Senate. And Cornyn's numbers show him to be vulnerable to a strong, people-powered candidate from the Democratic side. Is there such a candidate? I believe there is. I'm asking you to help me draft him into the service of his state and his country once again. My Podcast Alley feed! {pca-fdd832855fb3325e53d9375c8f3cd57f}
