We criticize Texas Governor Gregg Abbott for using the flood devastation as an opportunity to preach his personal religious views. We point out that in spite of the IRS decision not to punish two churches for politicking from the pulpit, the Johnson Amendment prohibiting such action is still the law of the land. After honoring the life of our friend, the Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonist Steve Benson, who died this week at age 71, we talk with attorney Kat Grant about their Freethought Now “Pride Month” blog: ”Don't make sacrifices on the altar of authoritarianism.”

Indian legislator offers money to assassinate pastors, Texas Governor called for a Day of Prayer for flood victims, Iranian Christians losing hope about regime change

It's Tuesday, July 8th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Indian legislator offers money to assassinate evangelists and pastors A member of a district legislative council in India has announced a bounty on Christian evangelists.   In a public speech, BJP Legislative Assembly Member Gopichand Padalkar allegedly issued a rate card for the assassination of various Christians, the highest amount offered for the killing of pastors. Members of the Christian community in the area are asking that police open a case against the legislator for inciting violence and spreading hatred. Under such treacherous conditions, would you pray for the safety of Christians in India? Iranian Christians losing hope about regime change World News Group reports that Christians in Iran are losing hope now for any possible regime change. During the week following the U.S. strikes, 1,000 people were arrested and falsely accused of spying for Israel, many of whom were Christians.  Some were executed.  The report quotes a 40-year-old Christian woman. She said, “Nobody welcomes wars, but at this point, war seems to be the most viable solution [for a regime change]. The oppressed people of Iran have used every opportunity to free themselves of this terrorist group in control. Every peaceful protest is cracked down upon in the most brutal way. We hoped these conflicts would give us a chance to fight for freedom by having military forces eradicated by Israel, just like the Israeli prime minister promised us.” An opinion survey conducted in 2022 by a Netherlands institute, found that, on a sample size of 158,000 people, over 80% of Iranians rejected the Islamic Republic and would prefer a democratically-elected government. Texas Governor called for a Day of Prayer for flood victims The latest count of the deceased in the Texas flooding tragedy has now reached 100, 27 of whom include children and counselors from a Christian girls camp known as Camp Mystic, reports ABC News. Davin Williams, the camp nurse, was heartbroken. WILLIAMS: “We had no idea people were missing. We had no idea that they had to wade through water, barely able to stand to get to the pavilion. I didn't even realize the gravity of the situation until we saw helicopters flying over us.” Over the weekend, Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott called for a day of prayer. The governor said, “This is a time when we, as a state, need God more than ever.”   ABBOTT: “All we know is that prayer does work. Your prayers have made a difference. We ask for continued prayers as we continue our efforts to locate everybody who has been affected by this. “Pray so much for the families who have lost a loved one, who are going through challenging times that they never imagined on the third of July that something like this would happen. Prayer matters!” In less than one hour, the Guadalupe River had surged 26 feet up the banks, causing the majority of the wreckage.  This looks like the worst disaster since the 1953 Waco tornado which killed 114 people and injured another 597.  Habakkuk 3:2 is a cry for mercy:  “O LORD, I have heard the report of You, and Your work, O LORD, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.” King Charles III and royal family support homosexual pride King Charles III and the royal family in London showed support for the annual homosexual pride march via  social media over the weekend. The Royal Family X account featured the Royal Band playing the iconic homosexual/transgender anthem entitled, Pink Pony Club, which was originally released by Chappell Roan. The royals drew attention to the sinful celebrations by adding in the caption: "#Pride2025," alongside emojis of a rainbow, disco ball, and sparkles. In reaction, one person wrote, “What a terrible post. No wonder at the coronation the King chose not to say 'defender of the Faith.' The monarchy ended with our beloved late Queen Elizabeth II.” And another asked, “Isn't the King the head of the church of England? He shouldn't be promoting sins.” 35,000 Brits participated in the march, supported also by the King's Royal Guard, reports Parade.  Spanish bill would imprison pastors who help “gays” or transgenders Spain is considering a bill that would imprison pastors who employ any “methods, programs, techniques or procedures of aversion or conversion, whether psychological, physical, pharmacological or of any other nature, intended to modify, repress, eliminate or deny their sexual orientation, sexual identity or gender expression,” reports The Christian Post. The lower house approved the bill by an overwhelming vote of 311 to 33.   Interestingly, Spain's Gross Domestic Product has been in a slump for 16 years. 25% tariff on Japan and South Korea; 30% on South Africa Yesterday, President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff to be imposed on Japan and South Korea, and a 30% tariff on South African imports, effective August 1st, reports NBC News. The tariffs will be subject to negotiation, as the announcement suggested “perhaps” a reconsideration, “depending on our relationship with your Country,” in Trump's words. South Africa has seen no measurable growth in its GDP this year. The nation's economy is stagnating. Also, both the South Korean and Japanese economies contracted slightly in the first quarter of this year. India now fourth largest economy worldwide India is replacing Japan this year as the fourth largest economy in the world, according to initial estimates. Japan was the second largest economy in the world between 1988 and 2010, but its Gross Domestic Product has not improved since 1995 -- 30 years ago. The International Monetary Fund projects that the BRICS eastern nations of China and India will take the #2 and #3 positions as the strongest economies in the world by 2030. Thanks to Javier Milei, Argentina's economy is rebounding Argentina's economy is doing better. Since President Javier Milei's election in 2023, the country's annual inflation rate has reduced from 211.4 percent in 2023 to 43.5 percent by mid-2025. Remarkably, Milei cut 27% of the state budget and laid off thousands of government employees in his first year in office (last year), after which the economy took a small hit.   But recovery appears to be on its way for Argentina. The nation's GDP got a 5.8% boost in the first quarter of 2025. Congressional Budget Office predicts $1.9 trillion deficit this year The U.S. President's budget proposed for 2026, includes the identical base discretionary spending projection as Biden's previous budget - $1.6 trillion. The proposed budget includes an increase in spending of $155 billion for Homeland Security and Defense, and significant decreases in Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and international welfare programs. The Congressional Budget Office is projecting a $1.9 trillion deficit this year, the third-highest deficit in American history. Keep in mind the biblical principle from Deuteronomy 15:5-6. It says, “…Carefully obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe with care all these commandments which I command you today. For the Lord your God will bless you just as He promised you; you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; you shall reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over you.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, July 8th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  Plus, you can get the Generations app through Google Play or The App Store. One of the biggest crying needs of the day is a faith continuity from one generation to the next. There's nothing more important than seeing the hearts of fathers turning to the children, and the hearts of children turning to the fathers. This is prayer burden—asking for the Spirit to work through our families and churches, and to bring repentance. One way this happens is when men embrace their God-given responsibilities and callings on their lives as husbands and fathers, conscientiously and intentionally shepherding their wives and children. On this edition of the program, Kevin Swanson and Joel Beeke discuss Joel's new book, How to Lead Your Family: A Guide to Men Wanting to Be More, on practical ways men can be prophets, priests, and kings within their homes. Texas can force users of porn websites to verify their age The law was challenged right up to the Supreme Court as they claimed it violated the free-speech rules of the First Amendment. Their argument was that adult viewers might be worried their private information or viewing history could be exposed, which is a deterrent from accessing the material. The Supreme Court ruled in favour of the law, saying it's working to protect children, and the government has the authority to do that. The Texas Governor, Ken Paxton, calls the widespread access among children to hardcore pornography a public health crisis. Texas is one of 24 states that have passed age verification laws for online porn, forcing Pornhub to close down in the state. Salesforce's CEO claims 30-50% of the internal work is now done by AI That's a staggering statistic from CEO Mark Benioff. Unsure how that's measured, but he says AI is being widely used at the company for software engineering and customer service. He says the tech has allowed the company to hire fewer humans. Microsoft and Alphabet have claimed similar stats saying AI is creating about 30% of the new code on some projects. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's Monday, May 5th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus 18-wheeler truck plowed in Easter parade, killing 6, injuring 18 A government-appointed committee determined that the Muslim driver of an 18-wheeler truck that plowed into an Easter parade on Sunday, April 21, in the town of Billiri in Gombe State, Nigeria, intentionally struck the Christians as they celebrated Christ's resurrection.  The committee also found that of the 36 people struck in the attack, six died, and 18 remain in critical condition, reports International Christian Concern. Pray Psalm 147:6. It says, “The Lord sustains the humble, but casts the wicked to the ground.” China official hints he wants to end tariff war with U.S. China is hinting that it could be willing to talk to Trump administration officials as a way to end the trade and tariff war, reports The Western Journal. A Chinese Commerce Ministry representative said, “China is currently evaluating” messages from administration officials that “expressed their willingness to negotiate with China on tariffs,” according to the Wall Street Journal. He added, “China's position is consistent. If you want to fight, we will fight to the end; if you want to talk, our door is wide open.” President Donald Trump's 145 percent tariff on Chinese imports led China to impose a 125 percent tariff on American imports. Trump has said he will not blink without concessions that could include greater access to Chinese markets. Chinese-American expert: Get tougher on China Appearing on ‘Fox Report' with Jon Scott, Gatestone Institute senior fellow Gordon Chang explained that China has no tariffs on certain categories of products that only America can provide. SCOTT: “China is making allowances for some US products to be imported without tariffs. Does that suggest that they are finding that it's not so easy to block U.S. products?” CHANG: “Oh, absolutely. And you know, it's not just that they're reducing tariffs. You know, for instance, President Trump reduced tariffs on electronic goods coming in from China. “What China has done, which we learned from both the Reuters and the Financial Times reporting yesterday, is that there are no tariffs on certain categories of U.S goods. So, for instance, aviation parts, semiconductors, medical devices, medicines, industrial chemicals -- things that China can't get elsewhere -- and they're just coming into China tariff-free.” Chang urged Trump to get even tougher on China. CHANG: “Instead of talking about reducing tariffs, I think that we need to start actually imposing some more costs. “So, for instance, China is not taking Boeing aircraft deliveries. We flew back three 737 Maxes from China that were about to be delivered. Well, if I were President Trump, I would say to Boeing, ‘You can no longer provide services or parts to Chinese Airlines because that will ground the Chinese fleet. And I think that will bring the Chinese to heel fairly quickly. “But we need to do some things that would be considered unthinkable. This is not the type of normal trade war that people are used to. This is looking like an all-encompassing struggle. When President Trump last week signaled conciliatory moves, the Chinese even got worse, and they were saying, ‘Well, no talks until the U.S. removes all tariffs.'” Angry parent blasts school board over daughter's gender transition A furious Lakewood, Colorado father, Dustin Gonzalez, lost his temper with woke educators during a county school board meeting, saying his daughter's new gender identity and transition was kept secret from him and affirmed by school staff. GONZALEZ: “I'm not a politician. I'm not a loud voice on social media. I'm a father, a quiet one, one who goes to work, tries to do right by his family, and stays out of the spotlight. But now, now you're gonna remember my name. “My daughter changed her identity, not after years of discussion or family dialogue, not from joint input from both of her parents. No, this happened quickly, secretly, encouraged by a school-appointed therapist in a system that never thought to include me. And the school didn't inform me. They didn't include me. They didn't even ask me. They replaced me! “By the time I found out, I was already labeled ‘the problem.' My objections weren't treated as concerns. They were treated as opposition. My voice was dismissed as hateful. My presence undermined. The therapist, the school, and eventually the court-appointed investigator all decided that because I wouldn't affirm something, I didn't deserve to parent my daughter equally anymore. “They didn't accuse me of abuse. They didn't claim I'd caused harm. The only evidence against me was that I said, ‘I'm not ready to affirm this yet.' That's it! “And now I'm at risk of losing parenting time, of being erased from my daughter's life, not because I failed as a father, but because I dared to ask questions. And it started in your schools. Your systems made it possible, and your silence made it permanent! “You gave my ex all the tools she needed to take our daughter from me, tools that she couldn't have forged on her own. You gave her the therapist, you gave her the ideological support, and you never once thought, ‘Shouldn't the father be involved too?' “You gave her a system that cut me out of the picture. You handed her the tools to eliminate me from my daughter's life. And with your help, she's trying to race me all together. You replaced my voice. You stole my seat at the table. And you made decisions about my daughter without me! “I don't care if you personally signed the policies, stayed silent while he passed, or simply chose not to know, you are all responsible. Don't think you can take a man's child from him and not reap a whirlwind!” Just like Psalm 103:13 articulates, a father has compassion on his child. But sadly, in this case, the government school's woke policies became a wedge between father and child. Texas Governor signs $1 billion school choice program And finally, on Saturday, Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed a $1 billion school voucher program into law, cementing the biggest legislative victory of his decade in office, reports the San Antonio Express-News. ABBOTT: “It is time that we put our children on a pathway to having the number one ranked education system in the United States of America. (applause) “Gone are the days that families are limited to only the school assigned by government. The day has arrived that empowers parents to choose the school that's best for their child.” Abbott referenced parents in the crowd who had already pulled their students from “low-performing” public schools to put them into private ones.  Under the $1 billion school choice law, Texas students who are enrolled into the program will receive $10,000 per year to go to an accredited private school. Disabled students will get up to $30,000 per year and home schooled students will receive $2,000 per year per child. The first year of operation will begin in 2027. The state will choose nonprofits to run the program, develop the application process, and pick which 100,000 students will have access to it. Here are 3 big things you need to know—   One — Ukraine says Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile at the country Thursday, a claim at least one Western official denies.  The official told ABC News the missile, aimed at the southeastern city of Dnipro, was a regular ballistic missile.  But The Ukrainian Air Force says it tracked the launch of an ICBM.  Two ---- Ford will cut four-thousand jobs in Europe by the end of 2027 due to weaker-than-expected sales of electric vehicles, pressure from competition, and economic worries.  Most of the jobs slashed will be in Germany with 29-hundred, while Ford will also cut 800 in Britain.  The automaker employs 28-thousand people in Europe.       And number three —  Texas Governor Greg Abbott says more giant buoys are going in the Rio Grande.  The state installed the floating border barrier last year in order to deter illegal river crossings.  The Justice Department sued Abbott to try to force the removal of the barrier.  In an X post on Wednesday, Abbott said Texas won't back down from its efforts to secure the border.

The Daniel Perry pardon. Last Thursday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) pardoned Daniel Perry, a former U.S. Army sergeant who was convicted of murdering Black Lives Matter protester Garrett Foster in Austin, Texas, in 2020. Abbott's decision came shortly after the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles recommended a full pardon for Perry. Perry's firearm rights will be fully restored as part of the pardon, though he still faces a misdemeanor deadly conduct charge for the shooting.  You can read today's podcast here, our “Under the Radar” story here and today's “Have a nice day” story here. In our latest YouTube video, Isaac went to the University of Pennsylvania to witness and report on the protests. 12 hours later, the police tore down the encampment. Hear from Pro-Palestinian and Pro-Israel protesters, and see the footage of the campus here. Check the next episode of our new podcast series, The Undecideds. In episode 3, our focus shifts from Donald Trump toward President Joe Biden. Much has been made in the media about his age and memory and whether he's cognitively capable of handling another term. But an unanticipated performance at the State of the Union reignited his base and left many questioning that narrative. And while Donald Trump faces a jury of his peers in court, the court of public opinion continues to weigh in on the effectiveness of Biden's foreign policies, with an eye to the conflicts between Israel and Palestine, Ukraine and Russia, and our own protracted clash at our southern border.  Our undecided voters share their observations on the current commander in chief and how his decisions on the world stage affect their decision in the voting booth. Texas Governor Abbott has issued a full pardon for an Army sergeant who shot a Black Lives Matter protester. Let's take a closer look at the details and reactions. For those unfamiliar with the incident, Army Sergeant Daniel Perry shot Garrett Foster during a Black Lives Matter protest in Austin in 2020. Perry claimed he acted in self-defense after Foster, who was carrying an AK-47 rifle, approached his vehicle. Perry had stated that he felt threatened and reacted to protect himself. Bodycam footage showed Perry visibly distraught after the incident. He claimed his vehicle was attacked by protesters, who left handprints and kick marks all over it. There were also allegations of shots being fired at his car. Officer Joshua VC, one of the first responders, testified that Perry appeared genuinely traumatized. #gregabbott #pardon #army --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/darien-dunstan3/message
