Guest Bio: The Swiss Artist Corinne Sutter stands for versatility. Since 20 years she's been painting, drawing on international stages, doing caricatures, speedpainting shows, sometimes integrating comedical elements. She's painted in front of Queen Margrethe II, Ronan Keating and was invited to paint Jackie Chan in China. Her first show went viral and has been seen over a billion times since. The art car is down! Oh man, is that why reckless driving is continuing? So what happened? Well, mums the word, but there are reports that it broke because there was so many decorations on the car – the suspension couldn't handle the weight. Cue the Curb music!
Get to know the hands, head, and heart behind Chris Dunlop, an automotive design and render artist. Chris attributes his artistic style using sharpie markers, airbrushing techniques, and pinstriping to his beginning career as an automotive painter where he was officially dubbed "Pinstripe Chris". After several years of creating artwork and painting cars full time, Chris and his wife Caitlin helped opened up a paint & body shop where they specialized in classic and exotic cars. During that time, Chris created the infamous Sharpie Mustang and Sharpie Camaro, where he used only Sharpie Markers to create an entire paint scheme on each car. He also started to offer custom hand-drawn renderings for their clients at the body shop to display potential paint schemes & build ideas. Eventually, Chris saw the demand for his artwork and made the leap to become a full-time artist using Instagram as his number one marketing tool. He has since garnered over 800 thousand followers on the social media platform with short and highly entertaining/impressive videos that highlight his unique art making process. Although he is not classically trained in the arts, Chris believes that repairing cars and painting them in the body shop early on in his journey provided him a unique education and strong understanding of lighting and shapes. From his studio is Southern California, he now offers highly collectable fine art paintings featuring a variety of luxury automotive brands. In this Curated Craftsmen Conversation, we talk about: "In-Person" Shows verses social media marketing Growing an organic social media presence through a weekly posting schedule A deep dive into using social media as a powerful marketing tool Making the shift from one type or style of artwork to another Transitioning from an established career to a full time artist The pursuit of perseverance over perfection An insider look at what it takes to make and sell art prints What an "Art Car" is Chris's perspective on AI generated art (Artificial Intellegence) Constructive criticism as defined by Chris + how to handle it Achieving massive goals and stewarding material rewards well Chris's Links: Website Instagram Will you get the next round? Well we now know how much the ‘Art Car' has cost us. A tune to $80,000 dollars going to the reckless driving awareness vehicle. Dr. Ken Harris feels vindicated in that this was yet another waste of resources. Milwaukee Alderman Westmoreland was not happy with finding out how much this was and publicly called out the waste of funds too. Dr. Ken doesn't hold back in how this was executed and although the show doesn't take exception with the artist, Dr. Ken might – depending on how she was paid to make this.
Headed to the wine aisle? What's Up? That story, as well as some more *business* covered on Wisconsin's Morning News this hour including the Art Car cost is out! How do we feel about the $88,000 price tag on the art car? Great that we learned today because Dr. Ken also appears this hour to give his uninterrupted thoughts on the 'Art Car Cost' plus a look back at the Beatles' 60th anniversary from first appearing in Milwaukee
In this episode, artist and frequent contributor Erika Nelson shares her deep appreciation of Art Cars. An art car is a vehicle that has had its appearance modified as an act of personal artistic expression. Among the highlights of our interview: Houston's Art Car Parade, Seattle's art car inclusion in the Fremont Fair/Solstice event, Art Car World in Douglas, Arizona and Minnesota's passionate group of art car creators.
That clearly doesn't work - yet politicians do it anyway. This hour we get in to the election numbers of Tuesdya's primaries and how we were right and also wrong about the turnout. New Talk Art special episode!!!! We meet ICONIC artist Julie Mehretu, presented by BMW. #AD What does Julie Mehretu think about when creating BMW Art Car 20? Find out on this week's @TalkArt episode!@RussellTovey and @RobertDiament interview @JulieMehretu during the process for planning and creating #BMWArtCar20. To design #artcar20, Mehretu translates her signature multi-layered motifs onto the contours of the #BMWMHybridV8. Obscured photographs, dotted grids, neon-coloured spray paint and her iconic gestural markings create abstract visual forms across the body of the car. Mehretu's collaboration with BMW goes beyond the Art Car. Julie Mehretu and Mehret Mandefro (@drmehret), Emmy-nominated producer, writer and co-founder of the Realness Institute which aims to strengthen the media ecosystem across Africa, will host a series of gatherings across Africa in 2025 to create space for artists to meet, exchange, and collaborate in translocal ways. Follow @JulieMehretu and @BMWGroupCulture to stay in the loop for more sneak peeks of the next addition to this legendary car collection.Ideas of time, space and place are enmeshed in the work of Julie Mehretu. Drawing is fundamental to her practice, whether in works on paper, painting or printmaking. The artist's dextrous mark-making comes together in a characteristic swirl, an act of assertion in response to social and political change. ‘As I continue drawing,' she says, ‘I find myself more and more interested in the idea that drawing can be an activist gesture. That drawing – as an informed, intuitive process, a process that is representative of individual agency and culture, a very personal process – offers something radical.'The countdown for the unveiling of the 20th BMW Art Car is underway. On 21st May, the BMW M Hybrid V8, designed by artist Julie Mehretu and set to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 15th/16th June, will be presented at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France. The artist is already providing glimpses into her work. Additionally, it is now confirmed that the Art Car will carry the starting number 20 and will be driven by Sheldon van der Linde (RSA), Robin Frijns (NED), and René Rast (GER). The #20 BMW M Hybrid V8 will be the first Art Car since the 2017 season, where the BMW M6 GTLM designed by John Baldessari raced at the 24 Hours of Daytona (USA), followed by the virtual BMW M6 GT3 Art Car by Cao Fei at the FIA GT World Cup in Macau (CHN). In the past, the most famous BMW Art Cars have participated in Le Mans: in 1975, Alexander Calder's BMW 3.0 CSL, in 1976, Frank Stella's BMW 3.0 CSL, in 1977, Roy Lichtenstein's BMW 320i Turbo, in 1979, Andy Warhol's BMW M1, in 1999, Jenny Holzer's BMW V12 LMR, and in 2010, Jeff Koons' BMW M3 GT2. This illustrious collection is now enriched by Julie Mehretu's BMW M Hybrid V8.For the design of the 20th BMW Art Car, Mehretu uses the colour and form vocabulary of an existing large-format painting from a more recent series of works: obscured photographs, dotted grids, neon-coloured spray paint and Mehretu's iconic gestural markings give her design an abstract visual form. She transfers the resulting image motif as a high-resolution photograph onto the vehicle's contours using a 3D mapping technique. This creates the unique artistic foiling with which the BMW M Hybrid V8 will compete in the Le Mans race. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

To learn more about Art Car Experience: https://www.artcarexperience.com/From this year’s Art Car Experience application, submitted by Professor Hope, “The Art Car Cooperative at Houston Community College is a STEAM project that brings together students from across many disciplines in order to design, engineer, and construct art cars exemplary of HCC's innovative and collaborative spirit. For the 2021 Art Car Event, HCC has transformed an ambulance into a narrative of "rebirth after destruction". The idea was conceived by the students after their realization that they were all at HCC after some sort of struggle. Perhaps it is the character of a community college: The students are grabbing at chances their parents never had, or at second chances they weren’t sure would ever come to them. But always, the idea was about grabbing the opportunity to be more. I think the students at Houston Community College don’t just feel this way about their college, but also their city. After Harvey, and now Covid, they are communicating their will to overcome, to be reborn after hardship. So they made a design that was meant to offer all Houstonians an opportunity to get to higher ground—hence the title of the project: Terra Firma. We have a mighty resilient city, and our Art Car entry tells that story: the story of rising from the ashes to bloom. It is a very timely work of art, and hope it gets the chance to be seen this year.”
They’re colorful, extravagant, and unique. No BMW Art Car is like any other. Not because they differ in age and model shape, but because they’re painted from the hood to the rear. But why did artists like Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol stage BMW models as works of art in the first place? Art on a Postcard will be presenting the work of Haus of Lucy and Charlotte MacMillan for Art Car Boot Fair's Viral edition this September. In this episode of Art on a Podcast, Rosa Torr discovers how both artists have subverted classical painting to create their work for the fair and discusses their individual approaches to creating them. Charlotte MacMillan has produced a set of extreme close ups taken from the Renaissance Painter Artemisia Gentileschi and Haus of Lucy appropriates classical paintings, adding anachronistic motifs to create a jarring and unexpected result and a new meaning. In addition to the prints we have 4 unique Haus of Lucy ceramic figures; Lucy takes old, unloved kitsch ornaments and breathes new life into them, giving them a contemporary and humorous spin using polymer clay, found objects and ceramic paint.

While I was at Burning Man a few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to camp alongside the team responsible for launching a monstrously impressive white, light-up, fire-breathing dragon art car, named Elektra. Peter Platzgummer was the project manager for the creation of this desert beast which took 2 years to make and involved over 40 artists, designers and fabricators. Peter has a PhD in Political Economy and now manages large scale art creation for a company called Engineered Artworks out of the Bay Area. | Featured song in this episode is "Storms" by Vancouver based Louise Burns.

We like to think we're starting a tradition with our #ipaday podcasts. This one is all over the place. They say it is good to make lists if you are writing something, so here is a list about what you can expect: Dogfish 120, Pamprin, Rodeo Clown, dead frogs, Art Car, yoga mats, Yellow Rose, dogs and kids at bars, amaretto, 7-Iron, Back Pew, cheatin on your favorite brewery and Snapchat. Oh, and "Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret," Republican haircuts and corn ravioli. That enough?
Dave O'Brien is an upcoming Pittsburgh artist who just completed the 2017 Art Car for Ron Lewis Alfa Romeo downtown live at Market Square. He has also done live paintings for RedFish Bowl, Fame LLC, and Pittsburgh Beautiful. His work has been featured at Carnegie Library of Downtown Pittsburgh, War Streets Brewery, Delanie's Coffee shop and on the official Pittsburgh Saint Patrick’s Parade t-shirt. This episode is unique because Dave and I were friends and graduated in the same high school class- Seton La Salle 2011. Six years after graduating we meet again and discuss how/why Dave started creating and selling art, how he meshes the art and business worlds together, why he's so critical of his own work, tips for aspiring artists and entrepreneurs, high school/college football memories and much more. Also, I lose another bet on the podcast. Burning Man 2015, What a week. What a challenge. What a breeze. What a great time. What an awful time. At times, I wished it wouldn't end. At times, I wanted to go home...REAL home. This was my 6th burn, and what I walked away with was largely a reinforcement of what I learned the year before: Burning Man is complicated. There are lots of ups and downs. It's unpredictable. Is this conclusion I've reached the same conclusion all experienced burners eventually come to? Or did I happen to have 2 challenging years in a row? Will I ever have an Innocent Burn just like my first one where everything was amazing all the time? I would like to. This is my set from the Kalliope art car, recorded Wednesday night at 2am. The Kalliope crew was nice enough to let me host my own night and invite my dear friends to play on their amazing bus, which was a new and exciting thing for me to do that I'm super grateful for. One thing that was consistently awesome in my experience was the crew's unwavering positivity, enthusiasm, and humility - it was inspiring to work with them. The night was blisteringly cold: my fingers, ears, feet, and nipples nearly froze off, so you'll hear some rawness (sloppiness) in this recording...but it does have its moments too. I suppose the ups and downs you'll hear in the recording are a metaphor for the ups and downs I experienced at the burn. So from that perspective, this is the perfect way for me to communicate my personal experience to you. I hope you enjoy it, and hope to see you in 2016. Thanks to Emma Trim for the photo. Hi Everyone, I m posting a very special live mix that I played during the man's burn on Burning Man 2014, on the Airpusher Art Car. A wonderful DJ crew, a kick ass party group, non stop techno, all while there were giant feets of fire flames, fire spinners, music, and cheers. After the lenghty burn, the art car strolled out into the empty desert and the party continiued on a whole new level. Why so late you might wonder? Because it costs money to buy storage data and this file is crazy big! ... so had to save up for it ;) But its finally here! yay Enjoy the next 3 hrs. The track list is the following: 1. Intro 2.
