This section is the one where we get a conclusion to the murder mystery that is neither satisfying nor happy, but feels very well thought-out and is therefore devatstating. It's not a fun section, but it's very very good. Thanks so much to you all for listening, and I will see you soon to start Bujold's next short story, Labyrinth. Wanna talk spoilers? What's a George Kennedy-themed podcast without a DISASTER? On this episode of George Kennedy is My Co-Pilot California is hit by the BIG ONE in 1974's EARTHQUAKE where an all-star cast (including Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, Richard Roundtree, Lorne Greene, Geneviève Bujold and - of course - George Kennedy) have to deal with the after-effects of a massive tremor that destroys most of California. Of course, before the quake hits there's plenty of melodrama and complex relationships (script by Mario Puzo!), but once the earth starts to move things get properly apocalyptic. Our EARTHQUAKE talk is preceded by a short chat about a late-era episode of the television sitcom WINGS featuring George playing a put-upon version of himself! ENJOY! The post Episode 242 – George Kennedy is My Copilot – Earthquake (1974) first appeared on Cinema Smorgasbord.

On this episode of the podcast, with the recent passing of Donald Sutherland, now seemed like the right time to revisit the Bob Clark thriller, Murder by Decree. This is a late 70s feature, imagining Sherlock Holmes and Watson on the hunt for the infamous Whitechapel butcher. And the cast is absolutely top-drawer, with Christopher Plummer, James Mason, John Gielgud, and Dead Ringers' Geneviève Bujold. Sutherland makes an appearance as a psychic, and he's pretty great, though nothing like the real-life character on which his character is based. The last time we tackled similar subject matter, was a podcast recorded in London the night after we did the Jack the Ripper tour. For those who are interested, here is a link to Hands of the Ripper, which Jeff and I recorded after a few beers from our South Kensington hotel accommodations.
In this episode Collin sits down with the 3 the boys behind the We're Not Marketers podcast: Eric Holland, Gab Bujold, and Zach Roberts. This episode is all about hot takes, including the hot take that started it all: Product Marketers are not marketers.
Dr. Brenna Brown has been working with and running laboratories for a decade. While working as a business development rep for an environmental lab, she would often get asked the same question repeatedly. "They'd ask, can you test my animal samples? And I couldn't because I was environmental. So, that was me learning about this animal health diagnostic laboratory shortage." Seeing how farmers were grappling with the scarcity of rapid animal testing diagnostics and local veterinarians, Dr. Brown and friends Dr. Adina Bujold and Bridget Brown created Cohlab, focusing on improving animal health testing for farmers, producers, and ranchers. Cohlab's goal is to bridge the gap between traditional lab testing and real-time, on-site diagnostics for animal health. Bujold, a pathobiologist and animal microbiology expert, developed Potentio, a device that makes it easy for farmers to test the health of their herds or flocks in real time.

Mandy Bujold, an 11-time national champion and two-time Canadian Olympic boxer, shares her journey in both the construction industry and the world of boxing with host Lisa Laronde. Reflecting on her experiences, she candidly discusses the hurdles encountered as a female boxer and the strides made in advancing women's boxing, recounting her road to the Olympics, which included a legal battle against the world's largest sports organization, the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was single-handedly the most important fight of her career, in which she waged to compete post-motherhood, underscoring the imperative for gender equality in sports and beyond. Not content with personal achievements alone, Mandy initiated the 'Champions for Charity' program, dedicated to raising funds for McMaster Children's Hospital. Mandy exemplifies resilience and advocacy in both her professional and athletic pursuits, leading to a change in the landscape of women's sports for years to come. Mandy Bujold is one of the most decorated Canadian Olympic boxers in history. Included amongst her many achievements are 11 Canadian National Championships, 3 Continental Championships, a Gold medal at the first Pan American Games and a Bronze medal at the first Commonwealth Games that included women's boxing. Mandy is also the first Canadian female boxer to represent Canada at two Olympic Games. In the lead-up to Tokyo Mandy's won a precedent-setting case against the IOC, in a fight for gender equity, that will help change the landscape of women's sports for years to come. She recently joined the Grand Valley Construction Association as their Industry and Community Partnerships Manager. She will spend her time fostering community, championing health and safety, and advancing women in construction and trades. Topics Gender equality remains paramount across all sectors, from construction to sports. Challenges should be reframed as chances for personal growth and learning, rather than as impediments. Building a solid support network is essential for overcoming obstacles effectively. On this episode, Dr. Emmanuel Bujold addresses the gross underutilization of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) in Canada during pregnancy, a treatment highly effective in preventing preterm preeclampsia among those at risk.Dr. Bujold is an OB-GYN in Quebec City and a professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Laval University's School of Medicine. He is a co-author of the commentary in CMAJ entitled, “Screening for preeclampsia risk and prophylaxis with acetylsalicylic acid”.Dr. Bujold presents evidence showing ASA's effectiveness in preventing more than 80% of severe preeclampsia cases. He advises that high-risk pregnant women take ASA up to 36 weeks of gestation, with ongoing research potentially adjusting this recommendation.Dr. Bujold describes a simple, relatively inexpensive, and widely available testing protocol that can effectively predict preeclampsia in the first trimester and that starting aspirin before 16 weeks of pregnancy can prevent severe cases.Next, Dr. Modupe Tunde-Byass, an OB-GYN based in Toronto and the inaugural president of the Black Physicians of Canada, emphasizes the disparities in pregnancy outcomes among racialized communities, particularly the higher rates of morbidity and mortality among Black women. She advocates for the implementation of race-based data collection in healthcare to better understand and address these disparities, highlighting the importance of tailored medical approaches to improve outcomes for these communities. This podcast has been sponsored by PrescribeIT.

Max Bujold stops for a coffee break with East Coast DNA at Music New Brunswick's Music Week #smnb chat about milestones that led to where he is today and his new single Heart Thief. “The song encapsulates that type of person who unapologetically goes after what they want and gets it nearly every time. Sometimes this character is seen as the bad guy, or we experience resentment and jealousy towards them, but we can also be a Heart Thief in our own ways and be damn proud of it, too,” says Bujold. Max Bujold is a East Coast Canadian singer/songwriter from Fall River, Nova Scotia, returned to his family roots in Restigouche County, New Brunswick. Max offers captivating lyrics and melodies, rich raspy vocals, and a fierce passion to perform original music. Often compared to singers like Tom Petty, Matt Mays, and Chris Stapleton, Max draws upon his rock, country and blues roots to write powerful songs from a place of honesty, integrity, and hope. He tells revealing yet motivating stories about the trials and tribulations one faces in the pursuit of their dream. Murder by Decree is a 1979 mystery thriller directed by Bob Clark (Director of ‘Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things' and 'Dead of Night' (not the brilliant black and white British film from 1945 - featured in episode 13, but the 1974 American film ), he also directed ‘Black Christmas', ‘Porkys' and ‘Porkys 2' Murder by Decree was written by playwright John Hopkins, who scripted the Bond film Thunderball, and the Alec Guinness TV version of Smileys People. Hopkins referenced Conan Doyle's work, particularly Holmes' deduction and science skills but downplayed other aspects of the characters, such as Holmes' drug use, in favour of making them more likeable and human.Peter O'Toole was originally cast as Sherlock Holmes, and Sir Laurence Olivier was cast as Dr. Watson. But the two actors had not worked well together in the past, and were unable to overcome their differences for this movie. Rather, Holmes is played by Christopher (Captain Georg von Trapp) Plummer and Dr. Watson is played by James Mason.Plummer, described by IMDB as“ perhaps Canada's greatest thespian”, turned down the role of Gandalf in Sir Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, and admits to regretting that decision. Question for James and Jon? Christopher Plummer had two roles in common with Peter Cushing, can you name them?James Mason reportedly, he once saved the life of Max Bygraves' son at a party at Judy Garland's house. The boy fell into the pool and Max did not notice. James Mason did and, fully clothed, he jumped into the water and pulled him out. He was scheduled to play James Bond in a 1958 television adaptation of "From Russia with Love", which was ultimately never produced. Later, despite being in his 50s, Mason was a contender to play Bond in Dr. No before Sean Connery was cast. He later turned down the role of Hugo Drax in the James Bond film Moonraker, which went to Michael Lonsdale. In his autobiography, "In Spite of Myself", Plummer noted that Mason was the best Watson he had seen, and that his death halted a proposed furthering of their on-screen partnership. The film also features:David Hemmings (Blow Up, Deep Red, Brabarella, Gladiator, Magnum Pi and Airwolf) as Inspector Foxborough, Anthony Quayle (Lawrence of Arbia, The Guns of Navarone) as Sir Charles Warren, Frank Finlay (Lifeforce, The Three Musketeers) as Inspector Lestrade, Geneviève Bujold as Annie Crook, Susan Clark as Mary Kelly, John Gielgud as Prime Minister Lord Salisbury, Donald Sutherland as Robert Lees and the Mighty June Brown as Anne ChapmanThe film's premise of the plot behind the murders is influenced by the book Jack the Ripper: The Final Solution, by Stephen Knight, who presumed that the killings were part of a Masonic plot. The original script contained the names of the historical suspects, Sir William Gull and John Netley. In the actual film, they are represented by fictional analogues: Thomas Spivy (Gull) and William Slade (Netley). This theory on the perpetrators of the killings is featured in a number of other Jack the Ripper-themed fictions, including the graphic novel ‘From Hell'.The replica nineteenth century dockland set took two months and fifty men to construct at Shepperton Studio's largest soundstage. The set also included a replica muddy Thames River, Alien was shooting concurrently in the same studios.Support the show by buying from our affiliate links…https://tinyurl.com/Murder-Decree-Blu-rayhttps://tinyurl.com/Murder-Decree-DVDhttps://tinyurl.com/From-Hell-Bookhttps://tinyurl.com/From-Hell-Companion-bookhttps://tinyurl.com/The-Five-Book Get bonus content on PatreonSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/general-witchfinders. We complained about not having Charleton Heston in The Poseidon Adventure. Mayhap we'll complain about not having Gene Hackman in this gem. One of the classics of the disaster genre, starring Moses himself, along with more stars than you can shake the ground at, including Ava Gardner, George Kennedy, Genévieve Bujold, Lorne Greene, Richard Roundtree, Victoria Principal, and Walter Matthau.

Excited to bring you a new sport to cover on the show today as we punch our way into Boxing by speaking with legendary Canadian boxer Mandy Bujold about her extraordinary career! We learn from Mandy how she got into the sport and just what the boxing scene was like in Canada for females as she progressed her through the sport. We also learn about her incredible experience at the Rio Olympics and just how she was able to overcome a sudden illness to still compete. Added to this we find out more about the extreme circumstances she had to overcome to make it to Tokyo and how that helped spur her on as she entered the ring during the Olympics. For me, it is hard to believe that Kate Mulgrew wasn't the first choice to play that role. Could an argument be made that the longevity of Trek could be credited to TNG and not TOS? I know TNG wouldn't have been made without TOS but if TNG failed, I doubt any other series would have been developed. The Fly (1986) d. David Cronenberg Starring: Jeff Goldblum Geena Davis John Getz This week on Total Movie Recall, Steve and Ryan enter the telepod together and come out as a new, single entity — the Brundlehost. They get sentimental revisiting the powerful tragedy of David Cronenberg's The Fly, and Ryan acts like he's the first person to ever notice that Geena Davis is one of the great beauties of our time, and Steve tries to break down particle physics and quantum mechanics so even a dumb Philistine like Ryan can understand it. Join us as we transform and leave our frail, useless flesh behind, but watch your step — that's my ear you're standing on. When scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) completes his teleportation device, he decides to test its abilities on himself. Unbeknownst to him, a housefly slips in during the process, leading to a merger of man and insect. Initially, Brundle appears to have undergone a successful teleportation, but the fly's cells begin to take over his body. As he becomes increasingly fly-like, Brundle's girlfriend (Geena Davis) is horrified as the person she once loved deteriorates into a monster.
