Send us a textThe iconic survival tale Cast Away takes center stage as TJ, Alex, and Eric dissect Tom Hanks' four-year island adventure with unflinching honesty and plenty of laughs. What would you do if stranded alone with nothing but FedEx packages and a volleyball for company? Our hosts immediately tackle the film's most controversial moment - Chuck's reluctance to open the washed-up packages. "There's no laws here," Alex declares, explaining why he'd rip them open immediately rather than preserving them for future delivery. This spirals into a fascinating analysis of survival priorities, with everyone agreeing Chuck waited far too long to make fire - a critical mistake when an early signal could have meant rescue. The psychological aspects of isolation become the conversation's emotional core. Wilson, the blood-stained volleyball companion, represents what Eric calls "psychological anchors" - the lifelines that kept Chuck's sanity intact through four years of solitude. The hosts candidly wonder if they could withstand such extreme isolation without breaking down completely. From Chuck's gruesome self-dentistry with an ice skate (which sends Eric fleeing from the discussion) to his resourceful tool-making and water collection systems, the hosts evaluate each survival decision with a blend of practical knowledge and humor. They share their own wilderness experience while planning a hypothetical camping trip to test their survival skills against nature's challenges - though perhaps with fewer coconuts falling dangerously close to their heads.Whether you're a longtime fan of the film or discovering it for the first time, this episode offers fresh perspectives on what it truly takes to survive when stripped of everything except your will to live. Follow us on all social platforms at Will You Survive The Podcast and join the conversation about what you'd do to survive being Cast Away.

Jimmy says it's a movie within a movie but Chris Wuergler (aided and abetted by engineer Phil), says Cast Away is a full on love story. But no matter what the opinion everyone agrees it's another Tom Hanks landmark performance - although there are some concerns.

If Canada had a Hunger Games style tournament, which province would win? If we had to pick one item in the studio to survive a Zombie Apocalypse what would we pick? This week on The KOKO Show we celebrated the Easter Break with a rip snorter of an episode that really rolled the stone away and allowed the lads to sink their teeth into a wonderful weekend filled with choccy eggs and fantastic friggin footy. The boys get down and dirty hunting for all the little bits and bobs from the Women's Super Rugby Champions Final that saw the Blues defeat the Waratahs, they got stuck into week 10 of the Superb Rugby as we head into the final couple of months and finally they fastened down the last three ‘Locked in Lions' on our very special whiteboard.Plus, it wouldn't be an Easter special without a guest that somewhat resembles a delicious little Lindt Ball, so we brought in Canberra's really bad bunny and one of our favourite bucking Brumbies, Mr Billy ‘found love in a hopeless place' Pollard. With Billy in tow we dissect how the Brumbies are bulldozing their way into finals contention, his desire to play a big part in the upcoming Lions Series and why James Slipper has become a bit of a bully in his twilight years. So pop on your bunny ears, fluff up that cotton tail and put yourself in a compromising yet sexy position on the kitchen table. It is time to be a raunchy little rabbit this Easter, whilst enjoying the latest episode of Kick Offs and Kick Ons. This week on The KOKO Show our first instalment is jam packed wall to wall with the game they play in heaven as we break down all the action from across the Six Nations and Super Rugby. With so much ‘ra ra' to rummage through we thought it would be sensible to enlist a very special guest to make sense of it all.Our guest this week is such a big deal in the world of rugby the fact he is on our dinky little show either means there was an administrative error or he is just straight up crazy. This fella is without a doubt one of the best number 10's in the world, he hates an untidy house, his favourite film is anchorman and boy he can whip up a mean carbonara, so please put your hands together for Mr Finn Russell. With Finn in toe, we discuss and dissect all the Six Nations action from over the weekend which saw England win back the Calcutta Cup, the Irish down the resilient Welsh and the French flog the abysmal Azzurri. Furthermore, Mr Russell talks about his excitement surrounding the upcoming Lions Tour and he has promised the KOKO Crew a couple of big nights out on him.Plus, the lads also get silky with a sublime second round of Super Rugby, illuminating all the reasons as to why it is the best domestic competition in the world. So slip on your kilts, pour yourself a Scotch and let the breeze blow between your cheeks, because this show will be a super sensual yet very Scottish sensory overload. Do you like to travel using Google Maps? It's free, fast, and absolutely amazing as you can see some cool places you'd probably never visit otherwise. A couple of months ago, there was a viral TikTok video about a weird saucer-shaped object found on Google maps on Starbuck Island. It looks as if someone had to brake all their might but failed, and it resulted in a crash of that saucer-looking vehicle. There are many other unbelievable locations like this you can visit right now! Hometown Radio 09/17/24 5p: Greg Astle wants to know the one record album you want if you're stranded on a deserted island
We finally escape the cinematic island we've been stranded on this month with our final review of August. We're heading to the theaters to discuss Zoe Kravitz's directorial debut, Blink Twice. The new release follows Frida, a woman who is invited to a getaway on a billionaire's private island. After a while, she realizes she is struggling to remember the events of the trip. Fearing something sinister, she sets out to figure out what happened to her memories and what is happening on the island. After we review Blink Twice, we have our Island Movie Grab Bag. We share a few other island movies that are streaming, most of which we recommend…a few of which we definitely don't. Stay until the end of the episode to hear Christian's plan for September! Did you see Blink Twice? What did you think? Send us your thoughts at cinemaontappodcast@gmail.com
On today's podcast I chatted with Sally Smart of Smart Productions in Schull in West Cork. I can honestly say that Sally is one of the most fascinating people that I have met who has lived the most unusual life. In part one Sally talks about her early life in Cornwall, running away to Australia, living alone on a deserted island for 9 months, falling in love with Gus, an Aboriginal man and then living and travelling together across the desert in a station wagon with their two children! Sally is headstrong and determined, she lives and stands by her principles. Enjoy part one of Sally's story! Stranded on an island month finally leaves the year 2000, jumping 10 years ahead to one of the biggest films of Martin Scorsese's career: Shutter Island. The 4th DiCaprio-Scorsese team up follows Teddy Daniels, a federal marshal dispatched to search for a missing patient at Ashcliffe, a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane off the coast of Massachusetts on the titular island. Strange things start happening, and Daniels has to figure out what's real, what's not, and whether he will be able to leave the island alive. For the first time this month, our hosts are both re-watching a film instead of seeing something for the first time. One of them liked it more the second time around, one of them less—stay tuned to see who's who. Plus, our thoughts on Alien: Romulus! What's your favorite Scorsese-DiCaprio collaboration? Let us know at cinemaontappodcast@gmail.com
Stranded on an Island month continues. This week, we're taking a look at the influential cult classic Battle Royale. A predecessor to The Hunger Games, Battle Royale is set in a dystopian Japan and follows a group of teenagers trapped on an island and forced to fight to the death until only one remains. Controversial upon release, Battle Royale wasn't even widely available to watch in the US until a direct to video release 10 years after its Japanese debut. Nevertheless, the film has remained popular, especially as it continues to reach a wider audience. Stay tuned to find out our takes! Do you agree or disagree with our takes? Let us know at cinemaontappodcast@gmail.com
SOS! This month, Cinema on Tap is talking about movies with characters trapped, stranded, or worse on deserted islands. we're kicking things off with a big blindspot for both Christian and Scott: Cast Away. It's our second Robert Zemeckis movie of the year, and our first Tom Hanks movie in a while. Cast Away follows Chuck Noland, a FedEx systems analyst involved in a plane crash which leaves him stranded on an island in the Pacific. With only Wilson the volleyball to keep him company, Chuck must fight to survive and figure out a way off the island. Hanks was nominated for an Oscar for the role, but our hosts will see if he can carry the movie with no co-stars. Do you have thoughts on Cast Away? Let us know at cinemaontappodcast@gmail.com
