When it rains it pours, and I'm not even in California anymore. After yesterday's long-awaited decision on the former guy's non-immunity, there was another opportunity to almost feel sorry for Republicans. The new, inexperienced and in-over-his-head Speaker of the House learned nothing from his Democratic predecessor who NEVER brought a vote to the floor without knowing she had the votes to win, lost... spectacularly. Of course, the assist goes to Rep Al Green of Texas, who left his hospital bed to vote, causing a tie, and another GQP loss. When I get through the new news, we'll dip into the old news as I reconnect with an old friend. Actually, an old boss! I came across Charlie Seraphin's new book on Facebook with some curiosity. I think the last time I saw Charlie was the day I left the CBS radio building in Los Angeles for my new job at KLOS in June of 1990! Majewski, the George Santos of Ohio, is a larger and hairier man who projects an image of rugged masculinity and might be running for office again. Representative Ilhan Omar will be at the SOTU, and there's nothing Republicans can do about that. Omar isn't in the same league as Marjorie Traitor Greene. KITM correspondent Rosalyn MacGregor reports from Ottawa County, Michigan, where the county board threw a county coup, featuring surprise resolutions, replacing officials with no-nothings, installing cronies, and changing that woke motto “Where You Belong” to the warmly reactionary “Where Freedom Rings.” The question of whether any of this reflected the will of the public apparently never entered their minds… but it has now. President Joe Biden isn't so positive that COVID-19 is such a big deal anymore, at least when it comes to handing out benefits. Republican's actuarial arbitrage comes to a close on Covid, although trading remains brisk on how former the Former Guy could get soon. Not just the GQP, but the FBI and the NYT might also be checking their calendars and their watches wondering when the pressure will finally come down.  Alas, Donald isn't going anywhere soon. Once again, we need to reexamine the web of Trump's Russian collusion, from Oleg Deripaska to Paul Manafort, with a long, sad stop at dirtbag Charles McGonigal. George Santos isn't going away as long as his lies keep catching up with him, and they are legion. Kevin McCarthy is being punished and humiliated each moment by Santos, which is sort of his lot in life. So, is George recusing himself from committees a bow to McCarthy's steadfast moral compass, or is he just keeping Kev around a while longer to prolong his agony? Joan McCarter is here to help tear at Republican ruptures, although they are doing just fine on their own. Dems can sit back and enjoy the show.

David Waldman and Greg Dworkin are the leaders, and speakers we need on Day 3 of Kevin Can Wait.  The title of House speaker is Kevin McCarthy's to lose, and he's just the guy to do it too. Kevin spent last night making the speaker job even more worthless in the hope that just enough people will eventually find the job as worthless as him. Almost no one wakes up, looks in their own mirror and plots the ways they are going to achieve mediocrity or worse, to make your life, as their leader, miserable, except Kevin McCarthy, who has spent his entire career solely striving for better titles on his business cards. (Yep, kind of like Elise Stefanik.) It's not all Kevin's fault though. Believe it or not, some in the Freedom Caucus may not be taking their responsibility so seriously. The people who put them in office sure didn't. So now the GQP wants a solution today, no matter what cost, to make their embarrassment stop. No members, no power, nor the prospect of President Patty Murray is as important. All it would take is 3-4 Republicans yelling “Hakeeeeeeeem Jeffries!” and they all would straighten out right quick.

The Trump Supreme Court is using the Founding Fathers as human shields in Moore v. Harper, but are having a tougher time justifying anti-LGBTQ “messages” in 303 Creative v. Elenis. Meanwhile, the Respect for Marriage Act was actually legislated by legislators.  A restaurant in Richmond, Virginia, decided to protect its staff from gangs of anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ Christian hooligans. A search team found a couple more top-secret documents in a Trump storage bin with his old swords. Donald Trump probably has a classified document stuck to the heel of his shoe at this very moment. Donald should check to see if Vlad has a guest room down at his new place in Argentina. Also, the Georgia Senate runoff runs out today, and that might mean we won't have Herschel Walker to kick around anymore. Of course, Republicans do have a soft place in their heart for candidates with soft heads, so there's always a Walker or Madison Cawthorn comeback possible. If Raphael Warnock is successful, 51 votes will be nice. Members of the future 118th Congress are putting their wish lists together. A priority of Republicans will be to get as much Hunter Biden time on the books so that their base loves them again. Kevin McCarthy's Joe Biden impeachment plans miss the point. Who wants to prove anything when insinuation gets enough attention? Meanwhile, McCarthy needs to kiss up to Democrats to avoid crashing the economy on the debt ceiling. In fact, Kevin is in a no-win situation attempting to lead a GQP who enjoy losing. The House would like to replace McCarthy but can't find anyone worse. Nancy Pelosi plans to give them all one more kick in the butt on her way out the door. Nancy's sidekick Steny Hoyer, a House Democrat for 41 years, decided to step aside and make way for new generation. Marjorie Traitor Greene's no idiot, but… No wait, she is an idiot. But Marge is an idiot with a big future in Republican politics. No… that's probably not correct either. Anyhow, she hates Nick Fuentes, and Nick hates her, so that's something. Greene is a super genius compared to Milo Yiannopoulos, who might have moved to Georgia to impress Marjorie into hiring him for no money, then ended up a little too wacky to be employed by Kanye West, so...Ye? Milo even out-trolled Donald Trump. Trump hated Kim Jong-un, then Trump loved Kim Jong-un. Kim must have found the key to Donald's heart. Chris Christie's niece was kicked off an airliner following racist insults, then assaulted six police officers, and asked if they knew who she was. Chris wishes that he didn't. Maybe it was the printers, except for how it can't possibly be the printers. Trump orders Navy gunships into Phoenix. Think these dopes didn't get anywhere in the midterms? Think again. Republicans will have it rough with a slim majority, although it'd be even nicer if they had a fat minority. Bill Kristol is always wrong, but if anyone is still listening, he'd prefer House Speaker Barbara Comstock. Up in Alaska, they're trying out a bipartisan Democratic majority, thanks to fish supporters. Meanwhile, Donald Trump had dinner with an antisemite (Did Donald mention he was black?) who brought his plus one, a Holocaust denier. Who could have known?

Pelosi decided to step down as leader, but to stay in Congress. Republicans who hate functioning government, were happy to see a person who made it function so well leave. Marjorie Taylor Greene is now the face of Congressional governing standards. During the lame duck session Democrats hope to check off an item on their 1835 agenda, the seating of a Cherokee nation delegate. Today, no eyes were on Donald Trump, at least not enough to keep him from becoming a three-time loser and torpedoing the GQP's chances of winning future elections. Trump makes Mike Pence look like a hot prospect. Hopefully the media has smartened up on how to cover him. Meanwhile, Donald ran into a bit of bad luck on his lawsuit against Letitia James, when his case landed before a judge who knows law and understands Donald Trump. Michael Flynn, spy, must testify in Georgia's election interference investigation. Ted Cruz, swine, met with gun control activists, probably because he hadn't disgusted anyone that morning. Republicans in many states are voting to restrict their ability to vote on things. Who knows why people do things like that to themselves.

David Waldman brings us the Tuesday after the Tuesday that brought us the Pink Piddle, and the good news hasn't yet stopped. Joan McCarter is in to describe Democrats' plotting their lame-duck priorities, starting with taking sharp objects away from House GOP. Too bad, they had been sharpening many of them to stick into Kevin McCarthy. It's really the Freedom Caucus that Kevin, and the rest of us, need to worry about.  To reassure MTG et al. on his leadership abilities, Kevin tried yelling at the help. That probably won't get him to 218 votes however. The question is, who can get 230 out of the middle to follow them, even for a moment?  David Nir spreads out his spreadsheet. Whether it helps or hinders the GQP, the Senate should vote now to save DACA. Ah, emoluments! New documents detailing foreign spending at the Trump Hotel emerge. Today, the Trumps signed a $1.6 billion dollar deal with the Saudis. Donald Trump's Jan. 6 lawsuit lands before one of his judges. Who'da thunk? Donald tells the Mar-a-Lago special master his legal philosophy “if he takes a thing, then it is his”. For years now Republicans have told us about dead people voting in elections, but it turned out to not work as well as they thought.

I voted! How about you? How about all of your friends, relatives, neighbors? We have to protect the votes that do make it in. An Ohio man fatally shot his neighbor because he thought he was a Democrat. A South Dakota Senate candidate is accused of repeatedly molesting a family member over five years. Republicans do that, a lot, when they aren't being distracted by their other criminal activities. Ron DeSantis was the teacher that you remember as the smug right-wing jock who partied with students. But of course, Ron did teach at an exclusive private school to students named “Gates” and “Trip”, therefore he also name-dropped “Yale” while hazing the nerds.  Homeland Security admits that it tried to manufacture fake terrorists for Trump. Elon Musk has discussed putting all of Twitter behind a paywall, where it will never be seen again. Twitter will be such a failure that Donald Trump might want to put his name on it, but for now he'll stick with Truth Social. Don't put your lips on the breathalyzer. You never know where it's been.

Soon they all could be punch lines to Twitter memes. In Israel if they aren't right-wing enough, they hold another election.
