What questions are most relevant to us in 2023, given its astrology? How do we come into right relationship with astrological insights about the future? What do we need to consider when crafting intentions and resolutions for the coming year?I'm giddy with excitement to share this conversation with my mentor Diana Rose Harper. Diana's approach to astrology is poetic and expansive, while also visceral and thought-provoking. It feels like a true gift to share our conversation about the major astrological transits of 2023 (spoiler alert: there are quite a few!).We discussed the topics of how to approach astrological transits as well as New Year resolutions and intentions, what health entails, and honoring our humanity, while also understanding our place in the greater web of life.We also explored the astrology of 2023 by way of its seismic signatures: Mars and Mercury retrogrades at the start of the year, Saturn in Pisces and Pluto in Aquarius, the nodes shifting into Aries-Libra axis, Mercury retrogrades in earth signs, and Venus retrograde in Leo. Trigger warning: We discussed food, diet culture, and school trauma as pertains to feelings of not-enoughness. We also used tons of strong language here. Here's Diana's bio:Diana is an astrologer, tarot reader, energy worker, writer, and educator, with a history of being a bodyworker & rare books research assistant. Diana Rose has written quite a bit for HausWitch's community page, served as one half of the Rosebud Tarot, contributed an article on the ethics of astrological prediction to WIRED, and has been featured in many podcasts from The Astrology Podcast to Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness. Three times, she's been a lecturer at NORWAC.You can connect with Diana through her website, Patreon, IG, Twitter. Enrollment is currently open until March 8th for Diana's offering on Saturn, Our Lady of Time.We also mentioned some resources & people you may want to check out:Gary Caton Hermetica TriptychaBarbarella movieThe Astrology Podcast's 2023 Year Ahead Forecast, of which Diana is a contributorAri FelixChris BrennanAustin CoppockThis podcast is hosted, produced, and edited by Jonathan Koe. Today I am so excited to have Erica Feldmann join me on the Belonging Podcast. Erica is the owner of HausWitch, a modern metaphysical shop in Salem, MA that blends magic, activism, and deep community. Erica and I talk about how capitalism wants to keep us out of close community (and so how circling closely with other folx is a form of resistance), how using the word "witch" serves historical anger (but also how we need to check our privilege in our ability to use this word without fear), the true importance of housework, and how we can bring magic and ritual into our everyday mundane. Join me in HEARTHFIRE, a virtual healing and support space to devote yourself to your longing, reclaim a life that truly nourishes you, and expand into the person you already know you are meant to be, so you can break the cycles of loneliness, overwhelm, and disconnection from your inner knowing: https://beccapiastrelli.com/hearthfire/ Find show notes for this episode here: https://beccapiastrelli.com/erica-feldmann/ Follow Erica on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hauswitch/ Follow Becca on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beccapiastrelli/ Credit for the phrase "be a good ancestor" goes to Arianna of https://www.quwutsunmade.com/

It's my lucky number 13 episode! Today I'm speaking with Shanel Anderson of Soul City Yoga in Lynn, Massachusetts. I got Shanel's name from Erica Feldmann of Hauswitch (check out Episode 5) and immediately reached out for an interview. Shanel graciously accepted and soon we found ourselves in a 90 minute Skype interview. There's a whole lot of advice and empathy and laughter in these 90 mins and since I didn't want to cut anything out, I'm making this interview a two-parter. Shanel and I get started by chatting about her long path to the yoga life and what led to starting her business. We hit some of really important stuff right off, opening in a neighborhood with a "reputation," being a person of color in the yoga world and the gender bias that we both experienced when opening our spaces. I so appreciated Shanel's willingness to, I guess...go there with me on certain issues. On the more spiritual side, we dive into the beautiful practice of opening yourself up to the Universe and it's plans for you. As business owners, this isn't always easy when we're dealing with our egos and fears, but as evidenced in Shanel's story, it can pay off big-time. It led her to the perfect studio space, a like minded staff of teachers and just a general sense that she is going in the right direction with her business. We chat about the reality of business burnout, hiring the best people (again, follow the Universe!), and the power that your mind has on your luck or your destiny. Shanel also talks about why she believes in mentorship and gives thoughts on how we can better support the women in our lives. I loved speaking with Shanel; she's warm, funny and so easy to talk to as evidenced by our wonderfully long conversation. Enjoy the show! Today's episode is with Erica Feldmann, owner of HausWitch in Salem, MA. You'll hear this in the intro, but when I reached out to Erica, I was a little nervous, mostly because her store is just so gooooood and I think I was a little starstruck. Turns out, Erica IRL is so nice, so humble and so talented. She's created a soulful, mindful, magical business and in this episode she gives us a peek into her processes. Erica gives insight into finding the right space, sourcing vendors that align with her mission and her steps to building a vibrant Instagram community. And while she says she doesn't know much about business, it's pretty clear to me that she's got this shit down. We talk about being a Witch (it's not about dancing naked in the woods) and Erica examines how the traditional dark and mysterious archetype of the Witch is now being reclaimed as a powerful feminist figure. Erica takes her position of feminist witch very seriously. She explains why there is real responsibility in that role and how her space reflects this commitment. We also address the inevitable chatter in our minds and the need to find ways to quiet ourselves to get clear on our intentions and our paths as business owners. This part of our conversation resonated with me big time and encouraged me to recommit to a more daily mediation practice not only for my health but for the health of my business. Enjoy the show!
