The Journey Beyond Divorce podcast has been a life-changer for me. When I started my divorce, I had hopes of improving my life, but I didn't realize how difficult the journey would be. However, this podcast has provided me with unbiased, wise, and compassionate guidance that has helped me navigate through the emotions, logistics, and parenting challenges that come with divorce. Karen McMahon and the entire JBD team have created a valuable resource for anyone going through a divorce.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is Karen's warm and compassionate hosting style. She is honest and encouraging, and her goal is to help listeners move forward in their divorce process while also addressing the difficult issues of anger, grief, and loss. The interviews on this podcast provide valuable insights and new ways to think about moving on from divorce. Additionally, the topics covered are comprehensive, including finances, parenting, emotions, and what to do before, during, and after a divorce. It feels like getting a Divorce 101 course for free.

While there are many positive aspects of this podcast, one potential downside is that it may not resonate with everyone's specific situation. Are you stuck in a cycle of never-ending arguments over schedules, school decisions, or medical choices? Do your attempts at communication seem to fuel more conflict rather than resolve it? If you're navigating a high-conflict co-parenting dynamic, you may be wondering if there's a way to break free from the chaos. In this episode, we explore an underutilized yet powerful resource: Parenting Coordinators—who they are, what they do, and how they can help you move from constant tension to a more peaceful co-parenting arrangement. Are you exhausted from putting everyone else's needs above your own, especially in a relationship that feels like an emotional battleground? If you're a people-pleaser navigating a high-conflict marriage or heading into divorce, you're likely feeling stretched thin, frustrated, and maybe even a little lost. It's a familiar story for those of us who, often without realizing it, start to sacrifice our own happiness for the sake of “keeping the peace” or avoiding conflict. But here's the truth: the peace you're trying to preserve comes at a cost – the cost of your own inner stability, self-worth, and sometimes, your identity. As you face divorce, these tendencies to prioritize others can become a heavy burden. High-conflict divorces often mean intense emotions, drawn-out negotiations, and high-stakes decisions. And if you've been used to compromising your needs for the sake of someone else's comfort, standing up for yourself now can feel overwhelming. In this process, the same patterns that held you back in marriage – fear of confrontation, the need for validation, and a habit of shrinking yourself – can make it challenging to truly advocate for your needs. The path out of this cycle isn't easy, but it's absolutely possible. This is where Nancy Levin comes in. Nancy is a Master Coach, bestselling author, and the founder of Levin Life Coach Academy. She's here to help you take center stage in your own life. Through her own experiences and the insights she's gained as a former Event Director at Hay House, Nancy understands what it means to move from people-pleasing to authenticity, especially during life-changing events like divorce. In this episode, she's sharing her wisdom and powerful strategies to help you break free from the need to please and reclaim your power, so you can begin living life on your own terms. Part 3 of our series focuses on how to appreciate and benefit from the different voices in your head and their unique perspectives by using “The Brain Huddle”, a practice author Jill Bolte Taylor, PhD refers to as a “Power Tool for Peace”. The four voices or characters generated by four different types of neural tissue in our brains are somewhat stereotypical in their behavioral patterns which means that the more that you are willing to observe their responses/reactions to circumstances the more freedom you (and they) will have to work together to support you in a “whole brain life” Listen to Lisa and Karen review our four characters and introduce you to the five steps of the “The Brain Huddle”, a practice that starts with using your breath to calm the stress center of your brain. Once you've passed the 90 seconds it takes to step back and out of the stress response you'll be able to hear and access the unique skills, knowledge, and perspectives of the other parts of your brain that are equally you. Lisa and Karen share real life examples of using the Brain Huddle to navigate challenging situations that arise during divorce and in life in general. If you want to move beyond the experience of fear, isolation, and despair that arises during divorce and be more effective and happier in your life, this show is for you. The neurons in our brains are not all alike. Our brains think and feel in four different ways, every one of us. We may be more aware of certain ways than others, and define ourselves by the ways of thinking that are habitual...which does not always serve us well, especially when navigating divorce and post divorce life. In today's show, Part 2 of You're Not Crazy: Exploring the Voices in Your Head, Lisa and Karen familiarize you with the four distinct thinking and feeling modes in your brain introduced in Part 1. With this knowledge you can begin to understand how you can expand your responses to the many challenging situations that arise during the divorce journey as well as life in general. Imagine, you have undiscovered resources within yourself that can help you to be more resourceful and your life easier to navigate! It is an all too human tendency to react to stressful situations in counterproductive ways, to attack out of intense emotion without a clear purpose, to accommodate long after it's healthy to do so, or to avoid addressing situations that are destructive. While these are rarely wise strategies, they are disastrous strategies prior to, in the midst of, and post divorce. During this episode and the following two Team Talks, Karen McMahon and Lisa Brick discuss an alternative approach to attacking, accommodating, and avoiding, help you to understand what part of your brain gets hijacked when you do, and how to be proactive, forward looking, and purposeful. When you use all of your brain, not just the hijacked parts, to handle the challenges that arise around divorce you begin to master your situation. These three Team Talks are based on the research and findings of neuroanatomist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor in her 2021 book, Whole Brain Living: the Anatomy of Choice and the Four Characters That Drive Our Lives.   Journey Beyond Divorce Resources: Book a Free Rapid Relief Call: http://rapidreliefcall.com  Follow JBD on Instagram: @journey_beyond_divorce   A word from our sponsors: Soberlink is a revolutionary tool designed to support individuals in their journey to sobriety. In this episode, we dive into effective strategies for communicating with young children (ages 3-7) during a divorce. We discuss how crucial it is to help children develop their emotional language, allowing them to articulate their feelings. By guiding them to use their words, parents can be a soothing presence, helping their children process emotions rather than suppressing them.   We also explore the challenging behaviors that can emerge when young children lack a safe space to express their feelings. These behaviors may include regression, sibling conflicts, or even taking on a caretaking role towards a parent. Understanding these signs can help parents respond with empathy and create a nurturing environment for their children.   Lastly, we emphasize the importance of self-care for parents. By taking care of themselves, parents can ensure they are emotionally available and better equipped to support their young children through this difficult time.   Dr. David S. Marcus, Ph.D., is a leading expert in child psychology with a focus on how children cope with divorce.
