Current EventsSeahawks: The NFL draft is looming and mock drafts are carrying more and more weight. Huskies corner! Sav'ell Smalls announced he's entering the transfer portal. He was a standout two-way player at Garfield HS and a highly sought after 5-star recruit. His freshman year was truncated by COVID 19 and then ZTF and Jeremiah Martin emerged. He didn't see a lot of playing time. Sav'ell is a beast of an athlete and chose UW over his pick of blue chip programs. Montlake owes him a lot of gratitude and we hope he fluorishes in his next destination. He ends his Dawgs career with 32 tackles, 1 TFL, 0 sacks and 1 fumble recovery. What's Kraken!?  Main Event | -The Seattle Mariners can't hit and sometimes they can't pitch.- No extra innings games in the past week, thank goodness. - M's came home and swept the sorry ass Rockies, outscorign them 15-5 in a 3 game set. - JK continues to be hot, he's 8th in the AL in WAR ahead of Trout and Rafael Devers. - In his last 7 games, Kelenic is batting 391/462/1000 with 4 HR and 6 RBI. He's a machine. - On the flipside, Julio is slumping. In that same time frame he's hitting 172/250/379 with a 2b a 3b and a HR. Funny how that's a slump. - His BABIP is abysmal over this time probably due to a slight uptick in flyballs. He's hitting the ball hard, they're just dying before the warning track. - NOW FOR THE PITCHING: First things first. Luis Castillo should be the AL CY favorite right now. He spun another gem last sunday going 18 up, 18 down through 6. He wound up going 7, 2H 9K no walks. We won 1-0. - Kirby and Tommy Milone (who was filling in for new father Marco Gonzales, both pitched well agianst the rockies too. Chris flexen's turn came up against the Brewers last night and aside from an early inning meltdown, he pitched well enough for us to win. Unfortunately it was Penn Murfee's turn to let the team down when he relieved Flex in the 7th - The Brewers are one of the hottest teams in baseball and have the best run differential for any team that didn't start the season on a 13 game win streak. It's okay to falter a little against a former CY winner, but we can't get swept. - Adam let's keep track of the performance of this offseason's "big acquisitions" i.e. Wong, La Stella, Hernandez and Pollock. I've done some excel wizardry and created a table I can update and it'll spit out their combine slash line. Robby's Hot Take (5 second intro music... 30 seconds w/ 2 mins of discussion and banter) | They have 45 road points but only 33 home points. 21 road wins is 2nd only to the New Jersey Devils, who have 23. It might be in the team's best on-ice interest to wind up a 6 seed than 3 or 4 in the west, but is it in the franchise's? | Lightning Round  2 Listener Questions!

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - went to the Dempsey Indoor to watch Washington's Pro Day. We've been to a lot of Pro Days over the years, and this one definitely felt low-key compared to some others. Jaxson Kirkland, Henry Bainivalu, Corey Luciano, Wayne Taulapapa, Jeremiah Martin, Cam Bright, Kristopher Moll, Alex Cook, Jordan Perryman, and Peyton Henry worked out in front of roughly 20 different scouts from NFL teams in the hopes of impressing them enough to earn interest either through the upcoming draft, or through free agency. After the workout, Kim, Chris, and Scott gave their thoughts on what they saw, as well as who else was there and their opinions on the draft potential of some of the players, specifically Jaxson Kirkland. After a quick break, we've included post-workout interviews with seven of the players who participated in everything from running the 40-yard dash to the vertical jump, to lifting to individual position drills to give the scouts an idea of how well the players can move. So you'll hear first from Jaxson Kirkland, then Henry Bainivalu, Corey Luciano, Wayne Taulapapa, Jeremiah Martin, Cam Bright, Kristopher Moll, Alex Cook, Jordan Perryman, and last - but certainly not least - Peyton Henry. DawgmanRadio: Breaking Down Washington's 40-22 win over Stanford

Dawgman Radio

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 25, 2022 45:41

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - went into overtime Saturday night and into Sunday morning to break down their thoughts after the No. 18 Washington Huskies defeated the Stanford Cardinal 40-22 at Husky Stadium. It was a game where the Huskies did so many things right in terms of the mechanics of the game - no turnovers, forced three Stanford miscues, ran the ball, kept Stanford's run game in check, played strong field position, and always came back in a positive way after the Cardinal scored - yet there was still so much more meat left on the bone. Starting with the offense, Michael Penix, Jr. had another 300-yard passing game, but he was not the same quarterback that sliced and diced Michigan State the week before. Did the new Heisman talk start to seep in a little bit? Wayne Taulapapa ran for a career-high 120 yards, the first time he's ever run for more than 100 yards in a game in his career, and the running backs did enough to help Penix to keep the Cardinal defense off-balance. It was also the first game back for left tackle Jaxson Kirkland, and he looked pretty sharp in his 2022 debut. Obviously it's also the first time he's worked side-by-side with Troy Fautanu this season, so they will continue to improve as the season goes on. Rome Odunze caught up with the other three UW receivers that have 100-yard games - Jalen McMillan, Ja'Lynn Polk, and Giles Jackson - with 161 yards on 8 catches. After a quick break, talk turned to the defensive side of the ball, and the Huskies did a really good job of taking away Stanford's version of the 'slow mesh' RPO offense. The Cardinal weren't able to complete a successful shot play until there was 5 minutes left in the second quarter, and this was against a UW secondary that was without Jordan Perryman or Mishael Powell, their starting cornerbacks. The key was getting to Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee, and the Huskies did that to the tune of 8 sacks and 10 total tackles for loss. Bralen Trice and Alphonzo Tuputala each had two sacks, and Jeremiah Martin and Zion Tupuola-Fetui had 1.5 sacks apiece. The guys also gave mention to the special teams stars, namely Peyton Henry (who had 4 field goals on the night) and Carson Bruener, who has turned himself into a cover team demon. We wrap up the podcast with our final thoughts as the Huskies get back to work in anticipation of a short week. They become Road Dawgs for the first time this year, traveling to UCLA for a Friday night game at the Rose Bowl. The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got together to hash out some of the main storylines and thoughts that were brought to the fore after talking to the Washington players and coaches earlier this week as preparations continued for UW's Saturday matchup with top-10 Michigan State. Game time is 4:30 pm Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium, and the game will be shown on ABC. On Monday we spoke with Chuck Morrell, Ryan Grubb, and Kalen DeBoer, and the talk went more to do with general thoughts about the Huskies through the first two games, what they've done well, what they need to work on, and any surprises - like running more wildcat? And are they just showing that to put more on tape for their opponents to prepare for? On Tuesday we spoke with Michael Penix, Jr., Richard Newton, Jack Westover, Jeremiah Martin, Sav'ell Smalls, Carson Bruener, Makell Esteen, and Jaden Green. We focused on those conversations during the next segment. After a quick break, we talk about the conversations we had Wednesday with Lee Marks, JaMarcus Shephard, Inoke Breckterfield, Eric Schmidt, William Inge, and Julius Brown. A lot of good stuff to chew on here. We finish with our final thoughts on what we learned from the players and coaches this week, and the conversation also included a quick recruiting update as the Huskies are expecting to host a few official visitors and a number of committed players. The nearly two-week break for the Adelaide 36ers is almost over and we are back on Sixers Fix with Scott Ninnis to talk about everything to do with the 36ers, #NBL22 and we've got a special #AsktheLegend segment thanks to Sports Card World. It's been nearly two weeks but we open up Sixers Fix by looking back on the last two games for the 36ers, a loss in Tasmania to the JackJumpers and a win over Melbourne United in overtime to end their eight-game winning streak. We break down all the good and bad from those two games including the stunning game-winning performance of Dusty Hannahs, the stepping up of Cam Bairstow, the turnover count and Scott gives his votes in the Premium Wine Tours Player of the Year award. We then continue on by casting our eyes across the rest of the NBL and Scott gives his thoughts on the marching Tasmania JackJumpers, struggling Illawarra Hawks, if Melbourne United need to add another piece, Jeremiah Martin leaving the New Zealand Breakers, Adam Gibson back as a COVID replacement player and the Perth Wildcats 40th Anniversary Team. It's then time for Ask The Legend thanks to Sports Card World and everything is covered from Scott's Kai Sotto thoughts, what he's learnt since coaching the club, who had the biggest influence on him, his best teammate, championship memories, next big son of a gun, who he would recruit and who he might have recruited to South Adelaide. We then preview the Friday night Round 11 clash for the 36ers against the Brisbane Bullets. Be ready because we might ask you to be a guest on the show. Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway, a two-time All-American and a four-time NBA All-Star during his playing days, returned to his alma mater in the spring of 2018.Hardaway was introduced as the University of Memphis men's basketball coach during a March 20, 2018 press conference at the Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center on the Park Avenue Campus. Hardaway became the school's 19th coach and the third former Tiger player in the modern era (since WWII) to lead the program, following Wayne Yates (1974-79) and Larry Finch (1986-97).In his first season, Hardaway led the Tigers to a 22-14 record and the program's first postseason appearance in five years. The UofM reached the second round of the 2019 National Invitation Tournament, defeating San Diego in the opening round before falling to Creighton. Before the NIT, the Tigers reached the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship at FedExForum, beating Tulane and NCAA Tournament-participant UCF before losing, 61-58, to 11th-ranked Houston. The loss to Houston was one of only three the Tigers suffered at FedExForum, where they went 18-3, including the three games in the conference tournament. The other two losses came to nationally ranked opponents: No. 3 Tennessee and No. 25 Cincinnati. The excitement generated by Hardaway's hiring led to a huge increase in attendance. The Tigers led the conference by averaging 15,106 per game, more than double the previous season's average of 6,225.During the season, Hardaway directed the Tigers to top-3 finishes in multiple league categories. The UofM finished first in scoring (80.1 points per game) and assists (15.4); second in field goal percentage (45.3); and third in steals (8.0 per game) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (32.2).Hardaway's initial team also produced one of three unanimous all-conference first-team selections in guard Jeremiah Martin. Martin tied for the league lead with a 19.7 points-per-game scoring average and ranked second in steals per game (2.2). Martin finished his career as the program's No. 10 scorer (1,625 points) and became the first Tiger to score 40 or more points in a game twice in a career.Hardaway's success during his first season wasn't limited to on-the-court progress. His 2019 recruiting class -- including the nation's top prospect, 7-foot center James Wiseman -- was ranked the nation's best. Wiseman and forward Precious Achiuwa were five-star prospects. The other five signees -- Boogie Ellis, D.J. Jeffries, Lester Quinones, Malcolm Dandridge and Damion Baugh -- were rated four stars. Hardaway began his first job as a college head coach after a successful run at East High School. East High won state titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018. With Hardaway serving as head coach, the Mustangs defeated Whitehaven High for the 2018 Class AAA championship.Hardaway assumed the reins of a program that went 40-26 in two seasons under Tubby Smith, but did not make the postseason. At his introductory press conference, Hardaway called the job a blessing and said he was "ready to get the team back to the glory days." Athletic director Tom Bowen called it "an exciting day for the city." In the Tigers' rich basketball history, there are few players as well known or decorated as Hardaway. A former prep standout at Treadwell High, he averaged 36.6 points and 10.1 rebounds as a senior in 1990 and was named Parade Magazine National High School Player of the Year. UW comes in with nearly an A+ class that rates #12 in star average. It would have been an A+ if they had landed Jeremiah Martin or another blue chip pass rusher. UW really needs Joe Tryon to breakout this year as a redshirt freshman. Why can't UW land blue chip pass rushers? The answer is a bit sensitive. Mike Hopkins is a great guy and a great basketball coach too. Dawg hoops could finish 11-7 in conference play. Huge turnaround from 2-16. Warren Buffet is a fucking hypocrite and Mike Salk thinks random NFL games are more important than UW Athletics. Terrific Q&A session- mostly due to the fantastic questions from listeners.

Tonight AVfM Radio will present a very special program. JtO and I will follow up last week's show, “What Makes a Man a Man,” with a query into the female psyche, in an episode titled “What Women Want.” Suffice it to say it will not be your typical, manginosity filled diatribe on pleasing the “fair” sex, but a serious examination of the question that you can only get MRA style.  If you liked the last show, you are going to love this one. But we are not stopping there.  Also joining us on the show will be Tom Martin, the former London School of Economics student who is now litigating against that university, claiming that the institution practices sexual discrimination in its gender studies program. (Tip of the hat to Jeremiah) Martin's suit was “covered,” by The Guardian with an ambush article, full of hollow critique, feminist dogma and condescension, by Jonathan Dean of The Guardian. Martin was, however, allowed to present a response to that article himself, in which I might add he used a THM video as a source for citing the gender bias in the approach to domestic violence (Thanks to his use of the video, it has just topped 100,000 views). Mr. Martin will be interviewed on the show and will be available to field your questions when you call in to the show at 310-388-9709. Be sure to join is for what will clearly be one of our most interesting shows.
