Just a few days after USC Trojans 5-star commit Honor Fa'alave Johnson announced that his recruitment was shut down and he was locked in with the Trojans, another commit has come forward with a similar announcement. 4-star DB Danny Lang told our friend Kendell Holowell of SI at today's Mater Dei showcase that he was shutting down his recruitment and is fully locked in with the Trojans. Johnny Rodriguez is our guest on this episode. He played many types of sports throughout his life and eventually gravitated to lacrosse (a sport that does not get much attention in the USA). He played the sport from before high school through college and played professionally for 7.5 years. Today, Johnny is a lacrosse coach at Mater Dei, a Catholic high school in Santa Ana, CA. He is married and is the proud father of three children. Johnny enjoys coaching and imparting skills to his players. Then one day in November 2023, his world changed as he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease. Join us as we walk with Johnny on his ongoing battle with this disease and how faith and family continue to push him through the sport that both defines his life and continues to drive him. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham Shotgun Spratling and intern Makena Arteaga are back in studio talking about the Trojans finishing up spring practice week three and the wave of commitments from some of the top high school football players in Southern California, including a recent Oregon flip for an elite offensive tackle. USC finished up spring practice No. 11 on Saturday in the Coliseum, completing the third of four weeks of spring football workouts. The crew gives their thoughts on what they have seen and heard out on Howard Jones Field with head coach Lincoln Riley and new defensive coordinator Gary Patterson getting the troops ready for the highly anticipated 2026 football season. Practices were more concentrated this spring, running for five weeks instead of six (with one week off for spring break), and four workouts per week instead of three. March is a critical month for the future of Trojan football with Patterson's new defensive scheme being implemented and 31 true freshmen getting in the mix. On the recruiting front general manager Chad Bowden and the squad are catching fire, trying to follow up on the No. 1 ranked high school class for 2026 with another impressive haul in 2027. Since spring football started dozens of prospects have continually visited campus to check out practice and so far three new commitments have been announced. It started with San Diego Cathedral Catholic four-star athlete Honor Fa'alave-Johnson followed by Mater Dei four-star defensive back Danny Lang and Saturday's big flip from the Ducks in Servite four-star offensive tackle Drew Fielder. After gaining the commitment of DB Aaryn Washington, the USC Trojans are trending for several other prospects. One of those is elite 4-star wide receiver Eric McFarland. Os sintomas do infarto nas mulheres são diferentes dos apresentados pelos homens e podem ser minimizados pelas pacientes, que colocam a própria saúde em risco, alerta a cardiologista Patrícia Tavares, membro da Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia e coordenadora do setor da rede hospitalar Mater Dei, em Belo Horizonte (MG). Taíssa Stivanin, da RFI em Paris "Uma mulher nem sempre infarta com uma dor torácica clássica. Muitas vezes, apresentará uma dor na mandíbula, um desconforto no braço ou uma náusea intensa", explica a cardiologista brasileira. Outros sinais devem alertar as pacientes, como fadiga, palpitações, falta de ar, tonturas ou dores abdominais. Em várias fases da vida, o coração da mulher enfrenta “desafios” que exigem cuidados específicos. Na menopausa, por exemplo, a diminuição dos hormônios sexuais femininos, como a progesterona e o estrogênio, é considerada um fator de risco que deve ser antecipado nas estratégias de prevenção. “O estrogênio tem uma associação importante com a proteção do sistema cardiovascular. Sem a produção adequada desse hormônio, há mais chance de acúmulo de gordura no sangue, o que aumenta o risco cardiovascular", aponta Patrícia Tavares. "Há também sintomas vasomotores que pioram nossa condição geral de qualidade de vida. Sentimos desânimo, fraqueza, cansaço muscular, e a qualidade do sono, que é imprescindível para a recuperação do sistema cardiovascular, piora”, detalha. Manter a proteção do sistema cardiovascular após o fim da vida reprodutiva da mulher é essencial. Quando a menopausa é precoce, ou seja, abaixo dos 40 anos, o risco é ainda maior. “Todas as mulheres devem ter um cardiologista ‘para chamar de seu', e, nesse período da vida, não deve ser diferente”, acrescenta Patrícia Tavares. A terapia de reposição hormonal deve ser avaliada individualmente, lembra, em função dos riscos que eventualmente estarão associados ao uso da medicação. “Quando bem indicada, ela não só melhora os sintomas, mas protege o sistema cardiovascular nos primeiros dez anos após o diagnóstico da menopausa. Então, ter profissionais capacitados para a estratificação do risco é fundamental.” A menopausa não é o único período “crítico” para a saúde da mulher. “A mulher que passa por uma gestação colocou seu coração sob estresse. A gestação é um momento que também precisa de um ‘olhar cardiológico' apurado", explica a médica. "O momento da pós-menopausa também é peculiar. A jornada completa da mulher tem que ser vista por inteiro: desde a primeira menstruação até o término da vida fértil e o início do climatério, quando começam as mudanças hormonais.” As eventuais complicações na gravidez, como as síndromes hipertensivas (que geram aumento de pressão), também tornam as mulheres mais propensas ao desenvolvimento de uma doença cardiovascular no futuro. As especificidades associadas ao sistema cardiovascular feminino exigem adaptação no atendimento. A cardiologia da mulher, explica Patrícia Tavares, já se tornou uma subespecialidade da medicina, e o DCM (Departamento de Cardiologia da Mulher), da Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia, vem implementando ações de treinamento especializado para as equipes de saúde. Há ainda outros fatores que não são necessariamente peculiares à saúde feminina, mas que devem ser levados em conta na avaliação cardíaca. Entre eles estão os antecedentes médicos de AVC (Acidente Vascular Cerebral), cirurgias cardíacas anteriores ou certos tipos de câncer, que exigem um acompanhamento mais frequente. “Na medicina, temos que entender a individualidade de cada um. A situação deve ser pesada, ponto por ponto. Não existe uma receita de bolo geral”, acrescenta a cardiologista. A higiene de vida é outro elemento comum associado à saúde cardiovascular em ambos os sexos e inclui alimentação saudável, a prática de uma atividade física regular e técnicas de relaxamento para diminuir o estresse cotidiano e a sobrecarga mental. Conselhos que, por mais repetitivos e óbvios que sejam, continuam sendo indispensáveis. Machismo no atendimento O machismo é outro elemento que pode prejudicar o atendimento à mulher vítima de um infarto, ressalta a cardiologista brasileira. “Temos estatísticas que mostram que, muitas vezes, a mulher é vista como se estivesse fazendo ‘drama', e a náusea ou outro sintoma atípico é tratada como se não fosse um sintoma cardiovascular, mas um pico de estresse. Isso é muito grave. Temos que ampliar nosso olhar e investigar mais as mulheres, que têm mais chances de terem eventos cardiovasculares, principalmente após a menopausa.”

He was a McDonald's All-American and went on to play his college hoops at Duke, Villanova and Concordia before continuing his career overseas and in the G-League. Tim Cates sits down with longtime high school basketball coach and current Mater Dei HS Athletic Director Kevin Kiernan. Over his coaching career he has won 900 games, 12 CIF-SS titles, 6 CIF-State championshps and 2 National Championships in girls basketball. Kevin helped build the girls basketball program at Troy HS and has spent the last 17 years at Mater Dei where in 2024 he was named the WBCA National GBB HS Coach of the Year. Kevin has had many players go on to play college basketball and has seen several former players make it to the WNBA. Since 2021, Kevin has been serving as Athletic Director at Mater Dei, overseeing one of the biggest brands in high school sports.

That has been fixed in the files at littleoffice.brandt.id.au/#booklets Refreshing the files at Gumroad and Udemy will take a little longer.Looking back at last month's update, I did manage to accomplish one of the three goals, that of running through the explanation of rubrics in the Benziger Brothers 1914 Little Office book. It took two videos. Unfortunately they are recorded in fairly low resolution as my usual video device was being used elsewhere, so I used an old iPad which I had previously set to low resolution video, as sometimes a small person fills up the hard drive… anyway here they are:And the second installment looking more into the ceremonial aspects:The other two goals were a bit more ambitious - to explain how to sing psalms and make a course on singing Roman Compline.The real answer to the question “how does one psing psalms?” is that one can psing them in any way one desires. Of course, coming from a background in singing psalms in the western chant tradition in Latin, that's going to be the way I will gravitate towards, but there are many different ways to sing. I've been singing with many different people with many different styles and realising that singing in itself is a valuable skill to cultivate. Our culture seems to push people away from singing into being passive consumers of mass produced noise. Any sort of singing is better than nothing.The photo above captures my current list of ideas for Youtube videos. I'm always open to suggestions. Someone asked me how I would recite the Chaplet of the Holy Face in English and I started drawing diagrams describing my interpretation of the description in the 1789 Holy Face Manual, but co-ordinating all the elements of making videos seems to be more difficult than I remember.Also, this particular substack is devoted to the Little Office of Our Lady and sometimes I go outside that area. I have another podcast called the Latin Mass Homeschool Family, which is hosted with Spotify. Unfortunately Spotify has a policy of only hosting podcast episodes which are predominantly spoken. They recently deleted 32 episodes from my Latin Mass Family podcast without warning. I tried contacting them about getting back up copies, but turned out their system was not set up to cater for that service. The episodes were all from the 100 days of Chant challenge which I set myself a few years ago. Fortunately they are all still on Youtube. The recordings I was most concerned about were the family recordings of singing Compline, which would have been very difficult to recreate, and are all linked into a little blog at compline.brandt.id.au. Fortunately all those recordings passed Spotify's test for being mostly spoken.That gives me yet another goal, to migrate the Latin Mass Homeschool Podcast to a more music-friendly host. I'll put that job alongside updating the wowchemy themes on my webpages to hugo blocks.But all this pales in comparison with what seem to be our Holy Father the Pope's last days on earth.
