Tune in here to this Monday edition of the Brett Winterble Show with Jason Lewis filling in! Jason kicks off the program by discussing the liberal-leaning media (especially outlets like CNN, MSNBC, and CBS) for what he perceives as intentional dishonesty, including examples from the Trump era. He discusses how the media lied about major stories such as the Steele Dossier, Russian collusion, and the Covington Catholic students' incident, among others.Later in the show, Jason critiques recent media reports suggesting that birthright citizenship is guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution. Lewis argues that the idea of birthright citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants is not supported by the Constitution, citing historical cases like Wong Kim Ark to illustrate his point. Also, we're joined by Dr. John Lott, an American economist, political commentator, and gun rights advocate, to discuss globalists and the "West's Decline." They discuss how certain elites, like George Soros, want to fundamentally transform the West by replacing native populations through mass immigration and undermining traditional values. He suggests that these globalists want to turn America into a society like Venezuela, where a wealthy elite is protected behind walls, while the rest of the population suffers. Friday night will be one of the earliest times in a season that Covington Catholic and Highlands will renew their football rivalry. But, it also happens on a night when the kickoff will happen an hour later than normal (8 p.m.) due to the expected heat index. Even as the teams adjust practice schedules this week to the heat, there is plenty of anticipation building for Friday night at David Cecil Memorial Stadium. "It's going to be a really exciting game and we're all really getting ready," Highlands senior quarterback Brody Benke said. "It's just different. Everyone feels more locked in and practice is way more intense. Everyone is ready for Friday to come." Benke, senior tight end/defensive end Luke Schneider along with Highlands coach Bob Sphire joined the WCPO High School Insider Podcast to discuss Friday's game against CovCath. "Great football team; it ought to be a killer game," Sphire said. "It ought to be a classic follow-up. They just won against a really, really good football team in Ryle. They do such a great job. (CovCath coach) Eddie (Eviston) is a really good ball coach. He'll have them obviously ready." Highlands (1-0) defeated host Lexington Catholic 34-27 Aug. 18. Benke was 12 of 17 passing for 194 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed 19 times for 111 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown. Schneider had two sacks on defense. CovCath (1-0) defeated visiting Ryle 37-22 Aug. 18. The Colonels held a 20-0 first-quarter lead against Ryle. Senior quarterback Evan Pitzer was 17 of 24 passing for 271 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a touchdown. Senior running back Owen Leen had 16 carries for 96 yards and three touchdowns. CovCath coach Eddie Eviston said the Bluebirds will be a significant test on Friday night. "It's going to be a battle," Eviston said. "They are a very talented team. We got to be ready." CovCath (9-3 record in 2022) returns plenty of talent this season as it moves to Class 4A. The Colonels were in Class 5A last season. "The biggest thing right now is our guys are showing up to work," CovCath coach Eddie Eviston said. "We have a little different outlook on the year because of the different scenery with the different class, different district. It's one of those things you can't worry about that. We work every day and those guys have handled it real well." Senior quarterback Evan Pitzer and senior tight end Willie Rodriguez joined the podcast and discussed how close the team has been all year. "I'd say we're like all family," Pitzer said. "We'll hang out together. And I think that helps us on the field with the chemistry. We know what each other is going to do. But, not only that but I think we're hungry. We lost to Frederick Douglass last year in the second round. Our goal is a state championship every year, year in and year out. And I think a lot of guys want that and we're going to work it this year." Eviston said Pitzer and Rodriguez are among the leaders of an experienced group this year for the Colonels who open the season against visiting Ryle Aug. 18. "They've been a vital part of our program for the last two years," Eviston said. "As they enter their senior year we look to them for leadership. These guys continue to step up."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On today's show, we react to all 8 picks from the Cincinnati Bengals haul in the 2023 NFL Draft. We start with our reaction to Myles Murphy being the selection at 28, which surprised many who'd expected to see Covington Catholic-turned-Notre Dame Tight End Michael Mayer come off the board. We shared what we expect from Murphy 2023 and what he might add to the Bengals defense in the long run. Then, we dive into the decision to go with Jordan Battle at #95 after a trade back with the Chiefs allowed them to add a late 6th round pick. Later, we examine the selection Chase Brown, who has a good chance to get a lot of carries immediately, but does present some risk despite good upside. We then touch on the decision to skip tight end in this draft and why that might not be as painful as some Bengals fans may expect. To wrap up the show, each of the guys shares their favorite pick of the draft class, all of which are a little different.

CrossPolitic News 1-9-20 This is Toby Sumpter with your CrossPolitic News Brief for Thursday, January 9, 2020. https://www.fox19.com/2020/01/07/cnn-settles-lawsuit-with-nick-sandmann/ COVINGTON, Ky. (FOX19) - CNN agreed Tuesday to settle a lawsuit with Covington Catholic student Nick Sandmann. The amount of the settlement was not made public during a hearing at the federal courthouse in Covington, Kentucky. Sandmann's lawsuit sought $800 million from CNN, the Washington Post and NBC Universal. Trial dates are still not set for Sandmann's lawsuit against NBC Universal and the Washington Post. The Washington Post suit sought $250 million. A federal judge let a portion of the suit go forward after The Post filed a motion to dismiss it. Last January, social media exploded after numerous national media outlets painted Sandmann and his classmates as menacing — and in some cases racist — after an edited video emerged of Sandmann smiling, inches away from the face of Nathan Phillips, an elderly Native American man, while attending the March for Life on the National Mall.  A more complete video of the encounter, which emerged later, showed that Phillips had approached the Covington students and begun drumming in their faces, prompting them to respond with school chants. The lawsuit filed by Sandmann's attorneys in the Eastern District of Kentucky claimed that 53 statements included in CNN's coverage of the incident were defamatory. One such statement, included in a CNN opinion piece, accused the students of acting with “racist disrespect” towards Phillips. Attorneys say the money they're seeking is not designed to compensate Nick, but to “deter the defendants” from doing the same thing (that they're accused of) in the future. There are at least two biblical principles at stake here. The first is the general moral principle found in the 9th commandment, requiring honesty, specifically as it has to do with how we talk about other people. “The first one to plead his cause seems right, until his neighbor comes and examines him” (Prov. 18:17). Likewise, James says, “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God” (Jas. 1:19-20). For all the concern many Christians have for Trumpian style politics doing damage to our cultural civility or Christian witness, the number of Christians who jumped on this report hastily was large. I trust many of them took their posts down and apologized, but it's simply a fact that the liberal media is feeding the narrative that Christians are the uncivil ones, while in fact they are stoking the fires of the so-called anti-fascists and liberal screechers.   This basic moral principle is related to the biblical requirement for there to be two or three witnesses to convict anyone of a crime. In other words, the concept of due process is a thoroughly biblical concept, including the right to cross examination. Of course, reporting the news is not in the exact same category as convicting someone of a crime, but this leads to the second principle which is that of reputation. Defamation is the catch all phrase in American civil law covering libel and slander, lying about someone publicly. Bearing false witness against someone is a species of theft, damaging reputation, stealing potential business, trust and so forth. “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold” (Prov. 22:1). This means that a good reputation is very valuable and should be prized above money. Obviously, loyalty to Jesus and the truth should be valued even about a good name. Paul and Jesus and the other prophets and disciples gave not only material possessions but also their good names for the sake of the gospel. But the point is that reputation and a good name is extremely valuable, and just as it is right a proper to protect and provide for your own life and the lives of those entrusted to you, so too it is right and proper to protect and provide for your reputation and the reputation of those entrusted to you. Obviously, this can be done in a selfish or self-seeking way, but speaking out to defend yourself when you have been false accused can also simply be the love of truth. And there are times of course when we may remain silent in the face of slander.  One last biblical text that ties into this discussion. In Dt. 22, there is a law providing guidance in a situation where a man accuses his own wife of lying, of presenting herself as a virgin before marriage when in fact she was not. This law can seem strange and foreign to modern ears who do not place nearly the same value on virginity and marital faithfulness as God requires. Sort of like trying to do a modernized version of Pride and Prejudice and trying to convince audiences that what Whickham and Lyida have done is as awful as it is presented. Nevertheless, if the woman is found to have lied, she is liable to the death penalty, whereas if the husband has brought false charges against his bride, he faces a heavy fine and the fine is paid to the father of the bride, who presented his daughter to be married as a virgin bride. This demonstrates that false accusations can do tangible damage to people. And it definitely seems reasonable to think Nick Sandmann from Covington Kentucky was a true victim of slander and libel. What a just penalty should be in this case is hard to calculate, but certainly a factor in the judge's mind should deterrence. The power of large media arms like CNN to destroy life and twist the truth is enormous, and this seems like a significant victory for the truth in our land. Austrailia Killing 10,000 Camels And with that, we should check in on Australia again since they not only have a fire problem but they also have a camel problem. The Independent reports that Aboriginal leaders in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) lands have ordered the shooting of 10,000 camels this week. A spokesperson for the South Australia Department of Environment and Water said the increasing number of camels had caused several problems in the region. “This has resulted in significant damage to infrastructure, danger to families and communities, increased grazing pressure across the APY lands and critical animal welfare issues as some camels die of thirst or trample each other to access water,” the spokesperson told news.com.au. We have been stuck in stinking hot and uncomfortable conditions, feeling unwell, because the camels are coming in and knocking down fences, getting in around the houses and trying to get to water through air-conditioners,'' Marita Baker, a board member of the APY executive, told The Australian. The animals are also being culled over concerns about greenhouse gas emissions, as they emit methane equivalent to one ton of carbon dioxide per year, the paper reported. The operation to control the camel population, estimated to total 1.2 million across the country, is expected to take five days. Once again, we merely note that God created a world that needs tending. It is not good for man to be alone, and it is not good for the world to be left alone and this includes the animal kingdom. God intended Adam to be a gardener and caretaker of the animals. This requires great wisdom, study, and care, given the varying environments needed. And while it may very well be the needed thing to do, 10,000 camels still seems like a lot, like somebody wasn't paying attention somewhere. And I highly suspect that there's government regulation and liberal ideology at the center of this mess.  Harvey Weinstein Trial Underway And speaking of animals and messes, the Harvey Weinstein trial began in New York on Monday after being delay for over a year. Authorities in New York have charged him with five counts of felony sex-crimes following his arrest in May 2018. While more than 80 women have publicly accused Weinstein of sexual harassment and abuse, he will stand trial for two alleged incidents. Weinstein faces felony charges on two counts of predatory sexual assault, two counts of rape, and one count of a criminal sexual act. He could be sentenced to life in prison if found guilty. The disgraced movie mogul was seen on a walker going into the trial, and he was apparently promptly rebuked by the judge for texting in the courtroom after being warned not to. This prompted Weinstein's defense, led by Donna Rotunno to request the judge to recuse himself on Wednesday for seeming to demonstrate a particular animus against the defendant.  Vanity Fair ran a story last week on Ms. Rotunno stirring up hostility against her for defending such a creep. And let's be clear, Mr. Weinstein is a creep. But what we should also be clear about is that Mr. Weinstein is the Hollywood scapegoat. When you have the Golden Globes applauding and tearing up at Michelle Williams announcement that she killed her baby to pursue her acting career, don't miss the fact that she was also saying that she required sex without strings or consequences (at least once) in order to win her award. Ms. Williams killed her baby to avoid consequences for her sex, and Mr. Weinstein was just living consistently with a similar logic. Hollywood churns out movies and television shows by the boatload full of sexual promiscuity and pornography and even rape. It's complete insanity to act like you can produce that kind of filth and not assume that's what the real world is like.  Ms. Rotunno goes further and insists that her client has not committed the crimes he is accused of. On December 21st, Rotunno wrote an opinion piece for Newsweek arguing not for sympathy for her client but for justice, and argued that this will be extremely difficult since the media have attacked and smeared Weinstein for months. She wrote: “The media has made their mark. They have tainted the jury pool by spreading their pre-trial judgment across America and the world. When Mr. Weinstein walks into court to begin his trial, will there be a single person in that building who doesn't know who he is, who hasn't pre-judged him based on what they've heard, read or seen? Highly unlikely. I say all of this not seeking sympathy for Mr. Weinstein. Nor do I expect it. I do expect, however, that he receives due process and a fair trial. The fact that this needs to be argued should raise concern for us all. There is nothing preventing you from being next. Long before you stand before a judge, the claims of a few can upend your life and destroy your reputation.” And there we are back at the theme of reputation. Mr. Weinstein has lost his name, although I'm not sure it was ever really a good name. But there is a difference between sins and crimes. I don't know whether Weinstein has committed crimes are not. He has clearly committed sexual sins. But the Bible says that Weinstein is entitled to due process, with witnesses and cross-examination, and our country applies that principle in the jury system. 12 fellow citizens must be thoroughly convinced to convict someone of a crime. But regardless of the crimes, I simply want to point out that Weinstein is a great candidate for the gospel. His name has been ruined because of his sins, and yes, he got caught and thrown under the bus while thousands of others remain in their places womanizing and prostituting and pimping. But, Harvey Weinstein, you were caught by the grace of God so that you would have to stop that way of living. Now you are under constant scrutiny. But I hope you actually find the grace of Jesus, the grace of the cross, that can take away your sins and give you a completely clean slate. There will consequences for your actions, but Jesus can give you a new name. Jesus didn't come for the healthy. He came for the sick, for the prostitutes and tax collectors and sexual sinners like you.  This is Toby Sumpter with your CrossPolitic News Brief for Thurday, January 9th, 2020.

Is the US corporate news media really the enemy of the people as many now believe? Are the legacy media institutions tearing apart America's social fabric? It is getting difficult not to answer in the affirmative to both of those questions , especially after watching the media coverage of the Kyle Rittenhouse case and its lack of interest in covering the Waukesha murders.Rittenhouse was found not guilty of all the charges against him which is - objectively and legally - the correct verdict and a vindication of the thousands' year old doctrine of self-defense. But that is not the only reason why the Rittenhouse case was important. What makes the Rittenhouse episode so significant is that it exposed with unique clarity just how corrupt , deceitful, malicious, and racially inflammatory the us legacy media has become.Of course, just in the last couple years, we have witnessed the so called “mainstream media” traffic in some of the most egregious lies. Take for example the false narratives advanced by the New York Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, and CNN on stories like the Covington Catholic high school kids, Jussie Smollett ,the Steele Dossier , the Russia-collusion hoax, the Russian bounty on us soldiers hoax, the gang rape allegations against Bret Kavanaugh the Hunter Biden story, Joe Biden's mental acuity, inflation, and the 1619 Project (to name just a few). Thus, we have been accustomed to the media lying with reckless abandon. The more recent phenomena, however, is the combining of the media lie machine with the mainstream promotion of some of the most toxic, CRT-inspired, racially obsessed rhetoric. This is why we see the corporate news organizations more and more disseminate articles declaring that math is racist, as CNN & The Atlantic asserted; Science is racist, according to BBC; Freeways are racist and hiking is racist according to the LA Times; Jogging is racist according to the NY Times; Salt is racist according to Buzzfeed; Breweries are racist according to The Boston Globe; Wine is racist according to The Guardian; Dieting is racist according to Huffington Post, etc.In addition, we can see the effects of the Critical Race Theory and Intersectionality pedagogy in the media's coverage (or lack thereof) in relation to the Waukesha, Wisconsin massacre.Ashton explains the state of the US corporate media and what we can do about it.Subscribe to Ashton Cohen: ELECTile Dysfunction Podcast on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ashton-cohen-the-electile-dysfunction-podcast/id1565208599Subscribe to Ashton Cohen: ELECTile Dysfunction Podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6siXVSwM2OWz3itH90YRNA?si=v5MUMEpwTSG_sVGPOKHP8wSubscribe to Ashton's channel on Youtube: youtube.com/c/ashtoncohenFollow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/theashtoncohenFollow on TikTok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM8nQjHta/Follow on Instagram: instagram.com/theashtoncohenFollow on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theAshtonCohen

Why won't Chuck Schumer & Nancy Pelosi allow the same for America? Plus, our coda on the MSM's inexcusable treatment of the Covington Catholic high school kids. We add context on "facecrime" from George Orwell's 1984. CNN's Brian Stelter looks for an escape hatch, while CNN's self-absorbed Kirsten Powers claims the 'real victims' of the episode are the journalists. The MSM got the whole "smirk" thing all wrong, and Covington Kids' attorney Robert Barnes has lawsuits in the offing. Also, Bruce Springsteen says Trump will win again in 2020. Anniversary Song. “The crowd is untruth.” — Søren KierkegaardLibertarians are and ought to be naturally skeptical of crowds. Passionate groups may be necessary for some kinds of progress, but it is a recipe for trouble whenever one faction holds too much power. The brouhaha around the Covington Catholic kids seems to stem from the crowd dynamics and powerful visuals displayed at the Lincoln Memorial last weekend. On one side was a group of rowdy prep school boys—some wearing MAGA hats—fired up by professional antagonists on the other. It's really no wonder many recoiled at the image of a lone native American elder surrounded by jeering faces of “white privilege,” even though later video revealed a much more nuanced picture.Soon the response to the incident turned into a mob of its own and one individual from the crowd of rambunctious boys became the target of an unprecedented drive-by media shooting. This was a separate event from the boys' tribalistic display, which itself was an off-shoot of another group's aggressive tribalism (a group known as the Black Hebrew Israelites hurled vile insults for nearly an hour before the boys began their school chants). But by the time the full video footage came to light, vindicating the boys and implicating those who rushed to judgment, the damage to the Republic had already been done.A Twitter mob descended on the boys. Threats poured into their Kentucky high school and false accusations were directed at innocent bystanders. Confirmation bias and selection of preferred facts was the genre du jour on social media, and rumors and innuendo ruled the day. It was a textbook case of the “Truth Decay” I recently explored with RAND corporation's Jennifer Kavanagh.Eventually, Robby Soave (an editor of Reason Magazine) decided to actually watch the footage in its entirety to see what really happened. Soave has a keen eye for media hoaxes on politically charged issues—he was one of the first to express skepticism when Rolling Stone released the now-debunked UVA rape story. However, his critical eye toward sloppy journalism does not make him a knee-jerk contrarian. He has also pointed out that while we should not automatically believe everyone who claims victimhood, neither should we dismiss such claims lightly.Soave's careful article was widely read and provoked apologies from many on the left and the right. Calmer heads may not have prevailed, but the article slowed down the spiral of madness. The point of this is emphatically not to take sides with one tribe or another, nor is it to neglect to assign guilt to those who acted foolishly or perpetuated false narratives, but simply to recognize that our politics have devolved into an ugly form tribal warfare. In rushing to find, tar, and feather the ideal political scapegoat, every tribe in the culture war ends up obscuring the real victims and creating new ones in the process.I have pointed out that this is inevitable when so much power is vested in the Federal Government. “We the People” feel powerless, and so we lash out in fear and anger. There are two remedies as I see it:1) Fact-based journalism — we need to value media that takes time to digest the facts before reaching a conclusion. Soave has done an exemplary job on this front, and I look forward to hosting him on my show to discuss the topic with the care that it deserves.2) Decentralization of power — Whether or not people realize it, much of the rancor and polarization of our politics stems from its increasing centralization. When power solidifies in Washington D.C., there is a demonstrative erosion of freedom. When people feel freedom disappearing, they feel powerless. This brings out the worst in them. One more thing we can do to combat the dangers of rapid-response social media is foster in-depth conversations where the truth can be analyzed from all angles. Tune in to the show this Sunday(8–9am Pacific Time) to my conversation with Robby about what happened, and what it means for our democracy.I encourage you to listen. Maybe we can all give Twitter a break.

Absolutely disghusting… and we're still waiting for the apology from the Diocese of Covington Kentucky. In current events, Dan tells us about the new Elvis traffic lights in Germany, and forgets about the time he had his car buried in the snow.
