This week, Evan and Skyler discuss how multiple injuries to the Colorado Rockies' outfield is testing their depth with Mickey Moniak, Brenton Doyle, and Jordan Beck all on the injured list. Though the injuries aren't limited to the outfield, as multiple pitchers have gone down as well. Meanwhile, the power seems to have evaporated from the Rockies' bats, Zach Agnos is a starter, and we take a look at potential trade candidates as the season moves forward. Note: This episode was recorded before Jose Quintana left the game due to injury on May 24, 2026. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In hour 2 of The Drive, Zach and Phil finish up their conversation on the Nuggets and if they have been left behind in the Western Conference. We pivot to the Broncos and hear Dr. Chao on Patrick Mahomes' ACL recovery. Will Mahomes be able to extend plays in the early part of the season? Will the Chiefs rely on the run game more than usual after signing Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker to a big contract this offseason? We react to the news of Rashee Rice violating his probation and being ordered to spend 30 days in jail. Today's "Three Count" includes Shedeur Sanders in a quarterback battle with Deshaun Watson in Cleveland, the Canadians taking down the Sabers in Game 7 to move onto the ECF, and previewing tonight's Game 1 between the Knicks and Cavaliers. We debate if the Rockies should be interested in trading Mickey Moniak as he's having one of the best seasons in the NL.
Antonio Senzatela went from the worst pitcher in MLB to dominant reliever. Chase Dollander from bust to boom. Mickey Moniak from forgotten to an All-Star? Let's take a look at the biggest surprises for the Colorado Rockies in 2026. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Jake and I are back after a day off to break down a loaded Wednesday slate from around MLB. Pounded through some livestream gremlins to get this one out — there was too much baseball to skip. The story of the day was the youngsters: Henry Bolte and Michael Stefanic showing out in their MLB debuts for the A's, A.J. Ewing and Carson Benge powering the Mets' walk-off over the Tigers, and Drake Baldwin staying hot in Atlanta. What we cover: • Shohei Ohtani drops his ERA to 0.82 with 7 shutout innings vs. the Giants • Nick Kurtz's 3rd career grand slam — on-base streak now at 36 games • Mickey Moniak's birthday near-cycle (3-5, HR/2B/3B, 5 RBI) • Jacob Misiorowski's 10-K masterpiece and the quad cramp scare • Daulton Varsho walks off the Rays with a 10th-inning grand slam • Daylen Lile's tiebreaking 10th-inning HR buries the Reds • Kyle Bradish one-hits the Yankees; Max Fried exits with elbow soreness • White Sox climb to .500 for the first time since March 31, 2025 • Riley Greene scorching, Casey Mize back Saturday — cavalry incoming for Detroit • Standings deep-dive across all six divisions • Today's slate, rubber matches & weekend preview (Cubs/Braves is the CTV) No show Saturday. Friday weekend preview, Sunday wrap. Move your ass — we're burning daylight. — Matt & Jake Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In hour 2 of The Drive, Zach and Will finish their conversation on the Broncos' schedule in 2026. Are the Broncos in for regression after going 14-3 last year? We pivot back to the Avalanche as they came from behind to close out the Wild in Game 5 last night. After the Avs showed off their depth in last night's win, the guys debate if this is the deepest Avs team we have seen in the Nathan MacKinnon era. The guys give Chris MacFarland his credit for the in-season trades he made, which are showing up huge in the playoffs. We hear from Jared Bednar on what his message was to the locker room to come back after a shaky first period. Today's "Three Count" includes the Rockies also coming back from down 3 to win yesterday behind Mickey Moniak's impressive performance, James Harden and the Cavs coming back from down 9 to win in Detroit, and Zach's parenting conundrum with his son cussing at the age of 7. Who should we be rooting for in the Ducks and Golden Knights series to be the opponent for the Avalanche in the Western Conference Final?
Fernando Tatis Jr. is sliding in the rankings and Cal Raleigh is being watched closely after exiting Wednesday's game with a right side injury that could land him on the IL. Joe Bond has the full picture on today's First Cup Fantasy Baseball, including the FanDuel Bet of the Day: Buxton 3+ R+H+RBI vs. MIA at +150. On the studs side, Mickey Moniak, Byron Buxton, Nick Kurtz, Daylen Lile, Jacob Misiorowski, Dylan Cease, and Shohei Ohtani all had standout days. On the duds side, Matt Wallner, Spencer Torkelson, Bryce Eldridge, Gunnar Henderson all struggled. Today's rotating segment is Rankings Risers and Fallers. Rising: Michael Harris II, Matt Olson, Byron Buxton, Cameron Schlittler, Chase Burns, Devin Williams, and Kyle Bradish. Falling: Fernando Tatis Jr., Ketel Marte, George Springer, Geraldo Perdomo, Gunnar Henderson, Eury Perez, Trevor Rogers, and Sandy Alcantara. On the injury and news front: Cal Raleigh was removed from Wednesday's game with a right side injury and an IL stint is possible, the Mets placed Francisco Alvarez on the IL with a meniscus tear, the Twins are recalling Zebby Matthews, the Orioles placed Dylan Beavers on the IL, Jacob Misiorowski left his game with quad cramps, Juan Soto exited early Wednesday, the Marlins placed Robby Snelling on the IL with a UCL sprain, Ronald Acuna is not returning this week, Pete Fairbanks returned from the IL, and Garrett Crochet has a bullpen session on tap. The Pittsburgh Pirates looked like they were in complete control against the Colorado Rockies, with Mitch Keller perfect through four innings and the offense jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. Then everything unraveled. Jim and Neil break down the Pirates' frustrating 10-4 loss, Keller's six-run fifth inning, the missed offensive opportunities, and why going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position came back to bite them. They also dive into the continued concerns with the bullpen, including Brandan Bidois' MLB debut, Justin Lawrence's ongoing struggles, and whether the Pirates need to make changes soon. Plus, the guys discuss Ryan O'Hearn getting back on track, Konnor Griffin batting second, Mickey Moniak crushing Pittsburgh, and why this is the type of game the Pirates cannot afford to give away in May. Tyler Glasnow is pitching like an absolute ace, but his history of back issues and a current workload of 140 projected innings make him the ultimate sell-high candidate. Joe and Corey debate whether to flip him now for a slow-starting superstar before the inevitable injury risk catches up to his elite surface stats. The waiver wire is filled with multi-positional assets this week, including Casey Schmidt, Brooks Lee, and Andrew Vaughn. The guys also look at Brice Matthews, Bryson Stott, and pitchers Payton Tolle and Max Meyer, though they question if these arms are being overlooked in too many leagues. Agustin Ramirez is officially this week's rage drop after being sent down to Triple-A to work on his defense. Other drops discussed include Jung Hoo Lee, Tanner Bibee, and Emmet Sheehan, with the hosts noting that Sheehan's increased home run rate and hard contact make him someone else's problem. Rankings risers are led by Brandon Marsh, Jordan Walker, and Mickey Moniak, while Jack Perkins is surging as the potential new lockdown closer for the Athletics. Fallers include Rafael Devers, Luis Robert Jr., Joe Ryan, Spencer Strider, and Bubba Chandler, who is struggling significantly with his command. In the trade market, Corey Seager and Logan Webb stand out as premier buy-low targets despite their slow starts. Eury Perez remains an upside play, while Oneil Cruz and Justin Wrobleski join Glasnow as players to move now while their value is peaking. Tyler Glasnow left his start after just one inning with back tightness, and Cole Ragens was pulled after 3 IP with a 3 mph velo drop and left tricep/elbow soreness. Both situations are worth monitoring closely heading into the weekend, and Joe Bond has the fantasy fallout on today's episode. Joe runs through the Rankings Risers and Fallers, with Brandon Marsh, Jordan Walker, Mickey Moniak, and Jack Perkins trending up, while Zach Neto, Luis Robert Jr., Joe Ryan, Spencer Strider, and Bubba Chandler are trending down. Rafael Devers shows up on both sides of the ledger. On Studs and Duds, Andy Pages, Marcus Semien, Rafael Devers, Andrew Vaughn, Jack Flaherty, Bryan Woo, Paul Skenes, and Shane McClanahan stood out, while Munetaka Murakami, Bryce Eldridge, Teoscar Hernandez, and Gunnar Henderson had rough outings. Today's FanDuel Bet of the Day features Nico Hoerner at 2+ Hits, Runs, and RBI at -160, or the longer shot at 3+ for +140. The Colorado Rockies only had one victory this week, forcing the Cincinnati Reds to pitch a position player, and dropping some heartbreakers to the Atlanta Braves. Munetaka Murakami is the biggest sell high of the fantasy baseball season so far, and Joe Bond and Corey Pieper both agree you should be moving him right now for legitimate top-tier talent before the league figures out how to pitch to him. On the waiver wire add side, AJ Applegarth and Joe run through Nolan Arenado, Cole Young, Moises Ballesteros, JR Ritchie, Chase Dollander, Foster Griffin, and Spencer Arrighetti. AJ was skeptical on Arenado while Joe and Corey are riding the hot bat, and Dollander gets the strongest endorsement of the group despite sitting at just 46% rostership. Jarren Duran is the rage drop of the week, with Joe keeping him for now but benching him in every league — Corey and Joe went deep on why he simply cannot be started right now despite the massive upside. Also on the drop list: Luis Castillo, Giancarlo Stanton, and Eugenio Suarez. Rankings risers this week include Mike Trout, Randy Arozarena, Josh Jung, Jose Soriano, Nolan McLean, Bryan Baker, and Louie Varland. Falling down the board: Jarren Duran, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Rafael Devers, Devin Williams, Aaron Nola, Salvador Perez, and Logan Gilbert. Corey leads the buy low and sell high segment. Buy low targets are Ketel Marte, Freddie Freeman, and Matthew Boyd — all three have strong underlying numbers that do not match their surface stats. The sell highs are JJ Wetherholt, Mickey Moniak, and Murakami, with Joe and Corey both making the case that Murakami hype is at its peak and you can flip him for serious value right now. I'm a little late getting this one out, but we're talking baseball for Thursday, April 30. The A's wake up alone on top of the AL West, the Tigers get their guts ripped out in Atlanta, and the Rockies hang a big crooked 13 on the Reds. I go game‑by‑game through Wednesday's MLB scoreboard straight off mlb.com — Guardians over the Rays behind Gavin Williams and a two‑run knock from Chase DeLauter, Angels getting walked off by Colson Montgomery and the White Sox in the 10th, Mariners beating the Twins even though Minnesota piles up 12 hits, Rangers blanking the Yankees behind Nathan Eovaldi, and the Blue Jays smacking the Red Sox 8–1 with bombs from Ernie Clement and Brandon Valenzuela. Then we get into the homer stuff. My A's take care of the Royals 5–2 behind seven innings and eight punchouts from Luis Severino, a three‑run shot from Lawrence Butler, and clean work late from Joel Kuhnel and Mark Leiter Jr. I run through the A's injury and roster notes: Max Muncy's busted hand, Brett Harris coming up, Brent Rooker back off the IL, and Denzel Clarke and Colby Thomas in the mix. For the Tigers, I talk about Tarek Skubal going out and doing Tarek Skubal things before Matt Olson — the Atlanta kid — walks it off, and what that does to a club that's sitting just behind Cleveland in an AL Central that might be “balanced” or might just be bad. On the Rockies side, I break down Hunter Goodman's three‑for‑four, two‑homer night (he's up to eight and leading NL catchers in homers), Tomoyuki Sugano's work on the mound, and where the Rockies sit in a stacked NL West. I also hit the Rockies' injury/roster moves: Kyle Freeland's IL trip, McCade Brown to the 60‑day, Zac Veen and Mickey Moniak coming back. I wrap it up with a lap around the standings — NL Central with everybody over .500, Braves already seven games clear in the NL East, Yankees and Rays at the top of the AL East, and the West Sacramento A's leading the AL West — plus a look at today's lighter travel‑day slate and some live score updates while the Tigers, Rockies, Giants, Astros and Orioles are all going. Francisco Lindor heading to the IL is the biggest fantasy story of the day, shaking up one of the most rostered shortstop slots in the game on today's episode of First Cup Baseball. Host Corey Pieper breaks down the full Studs & Duds, including Mickey Moniak's two-homer game, Seiya Suzuki homering in three straight, and a rough outing from Cristopher Sanchez who surrendered twelve hits. T oday's rotating segment has Corey evaluating emerging arms Trey Yesavage, Walbert Urena, and Joey Cantillo as streaming options worth targeting. Don't miss the FanDuel Bet of the Day — Nationals vs. White Sox over 9.5 at +100 with Miles Mikolas and his 9.15 ERA taking the ball. Take 10 with Tim – June 21, 20241. The injuries have been brutal of late. What is your advice for managers who have been kicked in the teeth multiple times this season with the loss of, just not fifth outfielder, put first, second, and third-round picks?2. Mookie Betts will be out for 6 to 8 weeks with a fractured hand. This opens up an opportunity for a player to step up. Who do you think will seize this chance and make a significant impact?3. Kyle Bradish will have Tommy John Surgery. This should secure Cade Povich for the rest of the season. How good can he be this year and in the future?4. Bo Bichette hits the IL with a calf strain. While it doesn't sound too bad, that doesn't seem to be the case this season. Orelvis Martinez gets his chance. Does he hit? Does he stick?5. Christian Encarnacion Strand might need season-ending surgery. Noelvi Marte should be finishing his 80-game suspension soon, as the Reds have played 75 games this year. Is he the answer for playing time there. Should fantasy managers be excited by the potential?6. Anthony Rizzo is out for two months with a fractured arm. Ben Rice has been promoted and will get the strong side of the platoon. Should fantasy managers be excited about this?7. Justin Verlander hits the IL with neck soreness. It might not be too long, but the Astros are out of pitchers. What will they do? Is there anything of interest for fantasy managers?8. Yimi Garcia hits the IL with a nerve issue in his elbow. I've heard of no time frame for his return. Who is the pickup for saves now in Toronto?9. As expected, Mike Trout is healing slower than anticipated. It's really interesting that some people heal faster than others. I remember when Albert Puljos broke his arm and spent the minimum time on the IL (15 days). Trout appears to be on the opposite side of that equation. Not a criticism, just an observation and a disappointment to his fantasy managers. Thoughts?10. Tyler Black has been promoted back to the Brewers. Does he get enough playing time to be relevant for fantasy managers?11. Johan Rojas was demoted earlier this week when the Phillies activated Trea Turner from the IL. Were you surprised that Rojas got demoted? They kept Mickey Moniak, Christian Pache, and David Dahl. Sure, they were all of out options, but really?12. The Mets are playing much better, and arguably, Christian Scott, their best pitcher, was sent back to the minors and continues to pitch well. What am I missing?13. What hitter are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB?14. What pitcher are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB?
The Los Angeles Angels ran out a lineup against the Pittsburgh Pirates worthy of a Spring Training game on Tuesday, and if you were disappointed, you weren't alone! However, it's this kind of lineup that always seems to find a way to pick up a win, and that's what happened! The Halos take game 2, 9-0, thanks to Patrick Sandoval throwing 7 scoreless innings, and Kevin Pillar deciding to have a career game at the plate with 6 RBI and 2 home runs! So, what did Patrick Sandoval do differently that led to this success? We'll tell you all about it in segment 1!Then, Ron Washington says he knows the key to Mickey Moniak's success, and Mickey agrees. Not only does it include Mickey's reduced chase rate, but it's a fundamental idea that the entire team could benefit from, and we'll discuss in segment 2!Plus, it's time for an Angel fan vibe check! Where you at, Halo fans? Down in the dumps? Hopeful? Just here to watch the young guys play and hope for brighter days? The Los Angeles Angels got an excellent second start out of Jose Soriano, which should've been the headline in this one, but, unfortunately, Carlos Estevez blew the save in the 9th inning, which led to an additional 4 innings of back-and-forth baseball that saw the Rays eventually walk it off in the bottom of the 13th. Although the Halos had plenty of chances to come through with runners on and also finish the game ahead in the score and with two outs, Angels pitching wasn't able to finish the job. We've got a full recap of everything that happened in this one, including Mickey Moniak and Logan O'Hoppe going back-to-back with home runs, and impressive Soriano start, and Carson Fulmer stepping up in segment 1!Then, in segments 2 and 3, Mike and Jon share which Halos in the organization will be the ones to "help get Mike Trout to the playoffs." The Athletic's Sam Blum and former Sports Illustrated baseball editor Connor Grossman take a look at the Angels after two weeks of play. They are, at least, competitive. But how set up are they for success this season? And is it helping or hurting them long term to be relying so heavily on Nolan Schanuel and Zach Neto? And is it helping or hurting them to give Mickey Moniak and Jo Adell inconsistent playing time? Sam and Connor also discuss the latest updates in the Ippei Mizuhara gambling scandal.
The Los Angeles Angels put it all together behind another fantastic start from Tyler Anderson, who made Halo history against the Tampa Bay Rays. What did he do, and how did the Angels come away with the 7-1 win? We'll break down Monday night's game against the Rays and share how Mike Trout, Taylor Ward, Anthony Rendon, Mickey Moniak, and Luis Rengifo all had great nights in segment 1!Then, Angels play-by-play announcer Wayne Randazzo absolutely TORCHED Major League Baseball on Saturday night in light of the decision to end Nolan Schanuel's on-base streak to start his career, and what Wayne had to say points to MLB's biggest issue: it can't get out of its own way. Jon breaks down what Wayne said and why it was spot on in segment 2!Plus, what should the Angels do with Nolan Schanuel in light of his slow start to the 2024 season? The Los Angeles Angels took 1 game out of 3 from the Boston Red Sox this weekend, as the Halos celebrated their home opener Friday night by mounting a nice comeback, only to lose the lead and fall 8-6. while the Angels had enough offense to win Friday night if not for Jose Soriano's struggles, Saturday and Sunday were different stories. The Angels were able to take advantage of the Red Sox defensive issues and win 2-1 behind a terrific Reid Detmers start, but on Sunday, a lack of offense and situational hitting cost them badly after Chase Silseth surrendered 3 solo home runs and the "garbage time" bullpen arms couldn't keep it close. The Super Halo Bros. break down the weekend that was on today's show, and will share their thoughts on the lineup's struggles, why they've been so inconsistent, and why Ron Washington should feel the need to give more playing time to the young players like Jo Adell and Mickey Moniak. Los Angeles Angels fans may not feel as though they have a lot of trade capital, but, according to reports from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, five Angels major leaguers are caught after by rival baseball clubs, and they could make for interesting trade candidates as the Halos remain active on the trade market. Today, we'll take a look at Luis Rengifo, Jose Suarez, Taylor Ward, Mickey Moniak, and Matt Thaiss, share what Rosenthal had to say about them, and what the Super Halo Bros. say about each of them! Would we be willing to part with some of these players, and, if so, what could the return be? Are there some we're willing to keep and continue to have them be part of the team in 2024? We'll get into it all on today's Locked On Angels!
