Laura Young, host of the Backseat Bible Nuggets Podcast, (this show is in the top 200 of Kids and Family podcasts on Apple Podcasts!!) joins me for this casual episode about helping kids read and understand Bible stories. We'll share some tips for parents on how to make Bible reading fun and engaging for their kids, and we'll also discuss some of the many benefits of reading the Bible. Bible trivia was one of my favorite games to play when I was a kid and I am so excited to play our first-ever Bible Trivia game here on AFTR! But this isn't your typical game of Bible Trivia - this is a naming-style game that encourages everyone to come up with the answers together, opening up discussions about God and what we read in the Bible. And an important note - You do not have to be an expert about the Bible to play this game! You and your kids should have a fun time even if you don't know the answers. You will definitely hear me stump myself on one of the questions about Jesus' disciples

At first glance it can be a bit of a challenge to understand the breadth of what founder Joe Berenbaum is building with AFTR.market - Is it a multi-sig? Is it a governance tool? Is it made for managing bounties? These questions (and more!) are explored in this deep dive into AFTR.market and the builder behind it all. In short, AFTR does a lot, and as a platform it has the possibility of un-locking high volume and collaborative building on Arweave well beyond what we see today. AFTR Market allows you to create and group Arweave assets together inside of a “vehicle.” By grouping these assets together on-chain, one can then put governance around them to manage their profit streams. There are layers when going through these concepts, we unpack them to deliver a conversation that is both informative and imaginative.Give AFTR.market a follow @AftrMarketVisit onlyarweave.com and follow @onlyarweave on Twitter and Metaweave for all things Arweave!

We recap it all, from the family dinners to the proposal to the AFTR controversy discussion. (Side note, our audio was acting weird and we couldn't really talk at the same time. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Aftr clearing the road and facing hard resistance from a group of motorized raiders known as the Dead Riders, the Rum Runners continue to make their way towards the job site and blaze a trail for Schumacher’s crew to roll in and get their precious Nitrous. As can be expected, however, a warehouse full of volatile gases is considerably less stable than it was 5 years ago, and the roving drones in the area do not bode well. This week we look at a recent decision (Brooks v. Commissioner, TC Memo 2005-204) involving the impact of repaying S corporation debt during the year when, at the beginning of the year, the shareholder’s basis was less than the face amount of the note. In the case in question, the shareholders repaid such a debt in its entirety at the beginning of the year, the corporation sustained a loss during the year, and then the taxpayer loan back enough money to both return the entire repayment and then advance enough additional to give basis to take the loss. The court analyzed this case and how it differed from the case of Corneilus v. Commissioner, 58 TC 417, affd CA-5, 74-1 USTC ¶9446, 494 F2d 465, 33 AFTR 2d ¶74-1331). The Phoenix Tax Workshop will start its new year’s programs this month. I won’t be able to attend the first meeting (I’m going to be speaking at the Virginia Accounting & Auditing Conference in Roanoke, Virginia sponsored by the Virginia Society of CPAs and Virginia Tech University at that time), but I would suggest those in Phoenix consider signing up for the program. Of course, if you're close to Roanoke go ahead and sign up for that conference. My topic is on technology in the local accounting practice, but there are lots of other issues covered in those two days. The conference will be repeated in November in Virginia Beach, and I'll be there as well, so that's another option for anyone in Virginia or nearby. As well, continuing from the midweek podcast earlier this week, remember to consider the needs of the agencies serving those affected by Hurricane Katrina. The Red Cross, along with Yahoo, have established a website that makes it very easy to donate a standard amount to hurricane relief using your credit card. Please take the time to make a donation to help the relief effort, either via that site or through another relief agency. Remember that, unfortunately, these types of tragedies spawn their own scams—so be sure to check out any charity you aren’t familiar with before parting with your check. The crooks are going to be calling, sending out emails and and setting up their own websites. On the latter issue—the safest way to be sure you are at the website for the real charity is to be sure and type the address into your browser’s address bar or click only on links where you trust that those responsible for the website are both trying to send you to the proper site and have done their homework to assure that they have linked to the real charity. I expect “phishing” emails to start to hit mailboxes soon taking advantage of this situation.
