Gaius and Jackson look back at one of cinema's greatest grudge matches between two horror movie icons in Freddy vs. Jason for the film's 20th anniversary. It was an absolute honor and pleasure speaking to the talented Ken Kirzinger. Portraying as Jason Voorhees in Freddy vs Jason (2003) has put this gentleman at the top of my list. Not only did he portray as one of our favorite, lovable, and iconic horror characters, he is associated with some of horror's most notable movies: The Cabin in the Woods, Dreamcatcher, 13 Ghosts, Bad Moon, and Watchers. With such an impressive resume' as a stunt actor, it's no wonder he is widely known and popular at conventions. And again, another individual who is now a legend in my opinion for acting as Jason Voorhees. The idea for a movie pitting Freddy Krueger against Jason Voorhees actually dates all the back to 1987 when New Line Cinema and Paramount Pictures started talking about a crossover film following the success of “Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3: Dream Warriors” and “Friday the 13 the Part VI: Jason Lives.” Sadly, neither studio wanted to give up rights to the other character to make the film so the ambitious plans fell to the wayside. Talks about putting the two slasher icons into a single movie continued to bubble up over the years but it wasn't until 1999 when the project really started to get support from the studios again. Over $6 million was reportedly spent on various scripts but eventually writers Mark Swift and Damian Shannon came up with an idea that everybody liked, which eventually led to Ronny Yu being hired as a director. Robert Englund returned for the eighth time to play Freddy while Ken Kirzinger was hired to portray Jason Voorhees despite early talks that Kane Hodder would come back to play the hockey mask killer again. When the film finally opened in 2003, the long awaited showdown landed at No. 1 at the box office for two weeks in a row as fans flocked to the theater to see two titans of horror square off…In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to load up on hypnocil and jump in a van bound for Camp Crystal Lake as we review “Freddy vs. Jason”… Music courtesy of Andrew Scott Bell

This week we are talking about "Exorcist II" which is known to be one of the worst sequels of all time by movie lovers and they are right! This movie marks the 2nd sequel we covered of Oscar-winner, the late-great Louise Fletcher which didn't end up too well, the other being Grizzly II. Episode 182: The Crew's discussing Freddy vs. Jason and the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy vs. Jason was the highest grossing installment of both the Nightmare and Friday franchises. Robert Englund returns to the Freddy role, but New Line Cinema hired a new actor for Jason, leaving Kane Hodder fans disappointed. Fans were happy with the results regardless, and Hollywood started making the vs. films (Alien vs Predator came out the next year). The 2010 Nightmare remake again was a box office hit (highest grossing Nightmare film Worldwide), but the critical and audience reaction was horrible, and a sequel never happened. The film looks great, and Jackie Earle Haley makes the Freddy role his own. He's so good, but the story never feels fresh and questioning whether Freddy is a villain or not is a waste of screen time.
