This week, we're bringing you something special: an episode from Add to Cart, a show we love hosted by Kulap Vilaysack and SuChin Pak. You might remember Kulap when she was a guest on our show back in 2018, where she bravely unpacked her childhood trauma and shared how it led to her documentary film. Add to Cart is a witty, subversive take on consumerism. Each week, Kulap and SuChin have candid (and often TMI) conversations about what they're adding to or removing from their carts—whether it's products, people, trends, or philosophies. Together, they explore what we're buying into and what it reveals about who we are. In this episode, they're joined by author and journalist Vicky Nguyen for the very first Auntie Book Club of the year, diving into her powerful memoir Boat Baby. Vicky talks about going from boat refugee to national TV and why the R is for refuse in her household. This week we bring you an episode from one of our favorite podcasts, The Longest Shortest Time, which features bold, poignant, funny stories about parenthood and reproductive health. Kulap was a guest in 2018! You can find her episode here. CJ Rivers had always dreamed of being a dad. But as a single person with a uterus who also dates people with uteruses, the path to parenthood was logistically tricky. In this episode, we follow CJ's road to dadhood — including sperm mishaps, blatant discrimination, and an underground group of queer midwives in Athens. Buckle up, because this ride is a wild one!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Carters, we are so excited to share with you an episode from Model Minority Moms, co-hosted by a beloved previous guest Susan Lieu (The Manicurist's Daughter), Jeanette Park and Kate Wang, three millenial Asian American moms. In this episode, Kulap talks about making of her documentary Origin Story. Talking about your life story with three other women who just understand you so well because they are fellow parents, fellow women, fellow immigrants... it just lets you get to another level of your story, real quick. Model Minority Moms started as a lengthy text-chain between a couple of working moms who were having babies during the pandemic and it morphed into a podcast that gets into the honest and deep conversations about parenthood, careers, relationships, growing up as an immigrant and everything in between. After you listen to Kulap's interview, check out more episodes of Model Minority Moms on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Kulap Vilaysack is a bit of a unicorn. She's a Laotian-American actress, comedian and show creator who has directed and produced hit shows like Bajillion Dollar Propertie$. She even has a real DC Comics superhero inspired by her, Katharsis! She also created a documentary about her family called Origin Story, where she tells the story of her father who she learned wasn't her biological dad when she was 14, her complicated mother who fled Laos as a refugee, and her biological dad whom she does not remember. She's also a mom who went through a long and arduous fertility journey. If you can't tell yet, she's a bad-ass 2nd generation Asian-American woman who tells it like it is. We are so honored to have her on the show to talk about what it was like to face her family's secrets and how that has connected to her journey of becoming a mother herself. To learn more about Kulap and follow her work, check out the following: - Watch Origin Story on Amazon Prime - Check out the Add to Cart podcast, where Kulap and her co-host give their "subversive take on consumerism."

As a bonus, we wanted to highlight a Lemonada Media podcast we love called Add to Cart. Join comedian-writer-director Kulap Vilaysack and veteran journalist SuChin Pak, in a subversive take on consumerism. Every Tuesday, they have honest, revealing (sometimes TMI) conversations about all the big and little things they're adding to, or removing from their carts. They decide what's worth the monetary/emotional investment, and what's not. From beauty products and health trends to celebrities and philosophies they're passionate about, our hosts dig into anything we buy into and what it says about who we are. It's summertime baby! And here on Add to Cart, it's the season of endorphin dressing. Kulap finds a brand that embodies auntie style and comfort, with oversized silhouettes and bold prints. Speaking of auntie style, SuChin is redefining summer staples with cashmere and adult bibs. Plus, Ku and Su review the New York Mag etiquette guide which tackles essential questions such as: When do you write thank-you letters? How should you respond to a compliment? And how much do you tip for a water bottle (if anything?) Please note, Add To Cart contains mature themes and may not be appropriate for all listeners. Yes. we're still on break for another week, but we've got a New Years treat for you! As you may know, our dear, dear friends Kulap Vilaysack and SuChin Pak host their own podcast ADD TO CART, and if you're not listening to this show, we don't know what to tell you. It's fabulous, and we wanted to do a "feed drop," as the podcast industry calls it, pardon me, to share one particular episode with you. If you loved Kulap and SuChin when they were on Ask Ronna, then you'll love Ronna as a special guest on Add To Cart. Enjoy! Join comedian-writer-director Kulap Vilaysack and veteran journalist SuChin Pak, in a subversive take on consumerism. Each week, they have honest, revealing (sometimes TMI) conversations about all the big and little things they're adding to, or removing from, their carts. They decide what's worth the monetary/emotional investment, and what's not. From beauty products and health trends, to celebrities and philosophies they're passionate about, our hosts dig into anything we buy into and what it says about who we are. In this episode, Ronna dishes on the most gorgeous and ballsy L.A. art Ku and Su have yet to see. Plus, she's getting rejuvenated at a retreat that's as incredible as its price tag. Prepare for the classiest cart.
