You finish a wedding film. You're genuinely proud of it. You send it to the couple, get back a message saying it's the best money they spent on the day. Then you open Instagram and within ten minutes you're convinced you're not good enough to be doing this job.Danny and Jason are back after their first ever skipped week, and they're getting into something every wedding filmmaker feels but rarely says out loud. The industry is improving fast, almost too fast, and it's becoming harder than ever to scroll without comparing your work to someone else's highlight reel from a better lit day with a bigger budget and a smoother run of show. They talk honestly about the mental spiral that happens when you post a teaser you're proud of and immediately get served fifteen other videographers' best work, why nobody's wedding day is actually as flawless as the final film makes it look, and the now infamous story from a CODA event where a videographer broke down everything that went wrong behind one of his most celebrated films, gimbal failure and all.Danny also shares the reality of trying new gear on a live wedding day, including a camcorder handed to the wrong bridesmaid entirely, and why experimenting in public always feels worse before it gets better. The conclusion is simple but worth hearing again: you're not making films for your peers, you're making them for the people who were actually there, and that's the only comparison that matters.A more personal one this week, but a genuinely important reminder if Instagram has been getting to you lately.

Enquiries are down across the industry. There are more photographers and videographers competing for the same couples than ever before. And most people's answer is to just post more and hope for the best. This week Danny and Jason get into why Meta ads might be the thing you've been putting off that could actually change your enquiry rate, and how to do them properly.Jason has been running ads consistently for seven months and breaks down exactly what's worked, what flopped, and the one thing most videographers get wrong when they start. Spoiler: it's stopping too early. He explains how Meta's algorithm actually learns over time, why cutting an ad before it has enough data basically resets everything, and why the content that performs best as an ad probably isn't what you think it is.His two best performing ads have nothing to do with showcasing wedding films. One hit 890,000 views. A wedding planner saw it and booked him for a wedding in August. The other generated a booking too. Both were shot on his phone.Jason talks through the mistakes he made when he first started, including accidentally targeting the wrong audience entirely, and why ads work brilliantly as a background tool that keeps your business visible even during the months when life takes over and you're barely posting. They also cover why boosting content that's already performed well organically is one of the most efficient things you can do with a small ad budget, and why doing it on your computer rather than your phone saves you 30% straight away.If you've been curious about ads but don't know where to start, this is the episode.
Most wedding videographers think sales is something that happens when a couple gets on a call with you and you try to convince them to book. Danny and Jason think that's already too late.In this episode they break down what a real sales journey looks like from start to finish, and why the videographers who convert the most enquiries aren't the ones with the best pitch, they're the ones who've been selling long before anyone ever hits the contact form. They get into why your Instagram profile, your website, and your response to an enquiry are all part of the same sales process, and how most people are leaving money on the table at every single stage without realising it. Danny shares how he uses WhatsApp voice notes to respond to enquiries within the hour, why getting back to someone quickly matters more than what you actually say, and the dog cam story that perfectly sums up what it means to make a couple feel like you actually read what they sent you.Jason talks through why the sales call is rarely about your work, the work already did its job to get them to enquire. What the call is really about is whether they want you at their wedding. He explains how to use the information people give you on inquiry forms to build a genuine connection, and why turning a rational decision into an emotional one is the most powerful thing you can do when couples are weighing up their budget. If you've ever felt uncomfortable about the sales side of running your business, this one will change how you think about it entirely.
In questa puntata analizziamo la Lumix L10, una camera che ha cercato di innovare il sistema micro 4/3 terzi. Ma è stata davvero un'occasione persa o un esperimento sottovalutato?
You've seen the posts. The doom scrolling. The videographers convinced that content creators are going to make us redundant and that the industry is on a one-way trip downhill. This week Danny and Jason tackle the question head on: are we cooked? The honest answer is no. But the longer answer is more interesting than that. They dig into why the rise of content creators has felt so destabilising so quickly, and why that speed of change is actually the real issue rather than the change itself. Jason lays out why content creators hit our biggest weakness directly, the delivery time problem that the wedding industry has quietly ignored for years, and what videographers can actually do about it right now. Danny talks through the generational shift happening in the couples getting married, why Gen Z wants something different from what millennials did, and what that means for the style of work you're putting out. They also get into how platforms come and go, why Facebook leads have already dried up for most people, and why Instagram will eventually go the same way, so building your business on one platform is always going to be a risk. Plus, what AI might do to all of this over the next five to ten years. The conclusion isn't panic. It's a prompt to look honestly at whether your work has actually evolved with the times, because the videographers who are struggling right now are largely the ones who haven't changed what they're putting out. Embrace the shift or resist it, but only one of those options has a future in it.
Most videographers never think twice about what they wear on a wedding day. Danny and Jason used to be the same. This week they're making the case that your attire, your client call setup, and the way you present yourself at every touchpoint is quietly shaping what planners, photographers, and future couples think of you, and whether they recommend you.Danny opens up about years of turning up in Hawaiian shirts and denim shorts and why a comment from a mother of the bride never fully left him. Jason talks through how he landed on a smart casual formula that lets him move freely on the day while actually looking like someone the couple is proud to have there. They also get into the moment Danny spilled water down his chinos right before a ceremony and had to spend the next three hours pretending it didn't happen.Beyond the wedding day itself, they cover why your client consultation setup matters more than you think, how your background, lighting, and what you're wearing on a Zoom call creates an impression before you've said a single word, and how being the videographer that looks the part can be the difference between a planner recommending you or quietly not bothering. It's a lighter one this week but there's something genuinely useful in here if presentation is something you've been putting off thinking about.
Wedding season is coming. The question is, what have you done with the time before it gets here?In this week's episode, Danny and Jason dig into one of the most overlooked opportunities in your business calendar: the quiet period. Not to rest and coast, but to do the work that actually moves the needle before the season swallows you whole. They cover the things you should genuinely be doing with your spare time as a wedding videographer, including reviewing your packages and figuring out which ones your clients are actually booking, restructuring your contract to protect yourself from situations that could seriously hurt your cash flow, building a social content bank from footage you've already shot, improving your editing workflow so you're not starting from scratch every time, and investing in learning that gets you excited and inspired before the season begins.Jason also shares how he used this window to work on his health, Danny opens up about his own plans to get on top of things, and they get into an honest conversation about the traps that keep most videographers stuck, doing what worked last year without ever checking if it still applies. If you've got a quiet few weeks ahead of you, this one will help you make sure you don't waste them.

In this episode, Danny and Jason sit down with Stevie Weir of Journal Wedding Films for an honest and inspiring conversation about one of the most interesting creative journeys in the UK wedding industry right now.Stevie spent 18 years as a wedding photographer, including a stint in the police before going full time behind a camera. After the post-COVID boom left him burnt out and with just 11 weddings in the book, he made a bold decision to pivot into wedding filmmaking, starting with a hybrid model before building Journal as a standalone film business. In this episode you'll learn how Stevie approached the transition from photography to film, why he stepped away from the hybrid model and what that decision changed for his creativity, his philosophy on finding the real story inside every wedding day, how mentoring transformed his filmmaking and what specific feedback shifted his approach, and the behind-the-scenes story of Yellows, his award-nominated film shot on the Isle of Tiree that had judges talking. Watch the film here: https://vimeo.com/1141870401?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ciWhether you're a photographer thinking about adding video, a videographer who feels like their work has become too polished, or someone just looking for a reminder of why storytelling is at the heart of what we do, this one is well worth your time.Find Stevie on Instagram at @journalweddingfilms and @stevenwilliamweir
I don't know what else to say, but I keep going back to LUMIX. In this podcast, we are talking mostly about how good in-camera SETTINGS are in LUMIX cameras (even cameras that were released before realtime LUTs) but we also talk a lot about using the LUMIX Lab app...and we may be talking about this subject more.
In this episode, Jason and Danny dive into the rapid rise of AI in wedding filmmaking and what it actually means for videographers right now. From tools like Imagen, Plotline, and Higgsfield AI, they explore how artificial intelligence is already changing workflows, from colour correction and story development to removing distractions like fire exit signs, cars, and even people from your footage. They discuss the real benefits of AI, saving time, reducing decision fatigue, and speeding up edits, but also the growing concerns around creativity, originality, and whether relying too heavily on AI could lead to a sea of identical films. The conversation also tackles the ethical side of AI in weddings, including altering environments, changing weather, and where the line sits between enhancing a film and misrepresenting the day.Looking ahead, they explore what the future might hold, from automated ceremony edits to fully AI-assisted workflows, and why the human element, storytelling, personality, and individuality, will still be the thing that sets filmmakers apart. If you've been curious, excited, or slightly worried about how AI is going to impact your business, this episode will help you understand where we are now and where things could be heading next.
A closer look at the Lumix S1 II as a primary hybrid camera. What it gets right, including stabilization, open gate, resolution, and overall usability, plus how it fits into a modern workflow with features like ARRI Log C and 32-bit float audio. Also breaking down where it still falls short, how it compares to Sony and Canon, and whether it actually delivers on being a “complete” camera. Watch the video
In this episode, Jason and Danny reflect on That Wedding Videographer Summit 2026, breaking down everything from the atmosphere on the day to the impact it's had since. They talk about the energy in the room, the power of bringing like-minded creatives together, and why face-to-face events still matter in an industry that spends so much time online. From conversations between talks to connections made over coffee, this episode highlights the moments that made the summit more than just a day of presentations. They also share their thoughts on the speakers, the workshops, and the ideas that stuck with them most, covering topics like storytelling, sound design, social media, business mindset, and building a brand with intention. The conversation turns into a wider reflection on growth, motivation, and why surrounding yourself with the right people can completely change your perspective going into a new wedding season. If you were at the summit, this is a chance to relive it. If you weren't, this episode will give you a feel for what you missed and why it might be something to experience next time.
In this episode, Jason and Danny are joined by the team behind The Wild Strawberry to talk about what it really takes to stand out in the wedding filmmaking industry. They dive into the challenge of developing a recognisable style in a world where trends move fast and many filmmakers end up creating work that looks and feels the same. From creative risk-taking to trusting your instincts, the conversation explores how The Wild Strawberry have built a brand that feels distinctive, intentional, and true to who they are. They discuss the importance of experimentation, why not every film needs to follow the same formula, and how leaning into your personality and influences can help attract the right couples. The episode also touches on balancing creativity with client expectations, evolving your style over time, and the mindset required to keep pushing your work forward without burning out or losing your identity in the process. If you've ever felt stuck blending in, or questioned how to make your work feel more like you, this episode will give you the confidence to create differently.

In this Summit Special, Jason and Danny are joined by the co-founders of Vidflow to talk about one of the most overlooked parts of wedding filmmaking, how you actually deliver your films. They dive into the story behind Vidflow, from the early days of DVDs and USBs to building a platform designed specifically for wedding filmmakers who want to give their couples a premium viewing experience. What started as a simple frustration quickly turned into a tool now used by thousands of videographers around the world. The conversation explores why delivery is such a crucial part of your brand, how a poor viewing experience can undo all your hard work, and why sending YouTube or Vimeo links often kills the emotional impact of a wedding film. They also break down features like white labelling, custom branding, TV apps, and hybrid photo and video galleries, along with the thinking behind their pricing model and how it supports both beginners and high-volume filmmakers. The discussion also covers future plans for Vidflow, including deeper integrations with CRMs and workflows, as well as how the platform is evolving beyond delivery into a core part of a videographer's business system. They also address last year's data issue head-on, sharing what happened, how they handled it, and the steps they've taken to ensure it never happens again. If you want to elevate your client experience, strengthen your brand, and deliver your films in a way that actually matches the quality of your work, this episode is a must-listen.
This is The Digital Story Podcast 1,044, March 24, 2026. Today's theme is, "Just When You Think You Have It Dialed In." I'm Derrick Story. There I stood on a mountain ridge that I had climbed. I had the Lumix around my neck and the OM System in my hand with a beautiful, detailed scene before me. This was the perfect setting to determine, once and for all, which camera rendered the best wide angle detail. And then, disappointment. Find out what happened on this week's TDS Photography Podcast. I hope you enjoy the show.
In this Summit Special, Jason and Danny are joined by Russell Kent Nicholls, filmmaker and the creator of Wedola, the community-built CRM designed specifically for wedding professionals.Russell shares the story behind building Wedola, starting from his own frustration with messy spreadsheets, manual contracts, and a workflow that felt like a ticking time bomb during busy wedding seasons. What began as a tool to simplify his own process has quickly grown into a platform now used by hundreds of wedding suppliers around the world. They discuss what a CRM actually does for wedding businesses, why many creatives avoid them at first, and how systems like automated emails, client portals, contracts, invoices, and enquiry management can dramatically reduce stress during wedding season.Russell also talks about building software as a solo developer, growing a platform purely through word of mouth, listening to feedback from the community, and why the goal of Wedola has always been to create something that feels simple, human, and designed specifically for the way wedding suppliers work. The conversation also touches on future features, the possibility of referral networks within the platform, industry insights gathered from booking data, and how better systems can help wedding professionals focus less on admin and more on creativity. If you've ever felt overwhelmed managing enquiries, contracts, payments, and client communication, this episode shows how the right systems can completely transform the way you run your wedding filmmaking business.
In this Summit Special, Jason and Danny are joined by filmmaker Ben Journee to talk about one of the most powerful tools available to modern filmmakers, social media.Ben shares how he's used platforms like Instagram to build a recognisable personal brand, attract opportunities, and showcase his creativity far beyond the wedding industry. Rather than treating social media as a place to simply post finished work, Ben explains how he approaches it as a creative outlet and a way to experiment, connect with audiences, and develop his voice as a filmmaker. They discuss the difference between posting for other filmmakers versus posting for real audiences, why personality and storytelling matter more than perfectly polished clips, and how consistency and curiosity can help you grow a loyal following over time. The conversation also touches on creative burnout, staying inspired, and why social media can be one of the best places for filmmakers to test ideas, explore new styles, and push their craft forward. If you've ever struggled with what to post, felt stuck trying to “beat the algorithm,” or wondered how social media can actually benefit your filmmaking career, this episode offers a refreshing and practical perspective.
In this Summit Special, Jason and Danny are joined by Becky Kinross of Films About Love to talk about one of the most talked-about formats in wedding filmmaking right now, Super 8.Becky shares how she went from curiosity to confidence using analogue film, why the process feels magical compared to digital, and how Super 8 has helped her attract the right couples and stand out in a crowded market. They break down the realities of shooting film at weddings, from managing limited reels and unpredictable results to choosing the right moments to capture and handling low light. Becky explains how the format forces intentional filmmaking, why it's less complicated than people think, and how it can be both a creative tool and a powerful marketing differentiator. The conversation also explores pricing, profitability, burnout, and how Becky's new Super 8-only package is helping her rebalance her workload while doing more of what she loves. If you've ever been curious about analogue filmmaking but felt intimidated by the process, this episode will give you the confidence to finally give it a go.
In this Summit Special, Jason and Danny are joined by McLean and Erin from Hello Tomorrow Films, storytellers with nearly 20 years of experience crafting deeply emotional wedding films. They dive into one of the biggest mindset shifts a filmmaker can have, realising the wedding day itself isn't the story, it's just the setting. The real story is everything that brought the couple there. From uncovering emotional arcs and personal journeys to designing intentional shots that reinforce themes, this episode explores how powerful storytelling actually works inside wedding films. They discuss how to identify meaningful moments before the wedding day, how questionnaires can reveal hidden storylines, why conflict doesn't mean drama, and how intention, not gear, is the real ingredient behind emotional films. They also talk about designing shots that visually reinforce story themes, capturing meaningful audio, and how being present and prepared on a wedding day can transform your edits. The conversation also explores burnout, creative overwhelm, and how their tool Plotline was built to help filmmakers find story structure faster, reduce editing paralysis, and get straight into the creative part of the process. If you've ever struggled to find the story in your footage, or felt stuck staring at a timeline wondering where to begin, this episode might completely change how you approach editing forever.

It seem that every 4-5 years a ground breaking camera sensor comes out. In 2020 Sony released the A7S III which completely changed the game for filmmakers across the board with the technology and features it offered. 5 years later we haven't really seen anything ground breaking from Sony and I know there are certain people who may be looking at jumping ship to Canon, Nikon, Blackmagic or Lumix. I don't blame them as every other manufacture has pound for pound way more tech and features than Sony's current line up. So why am I sticking with Sony? Give this episode a listen and find out.

I had the pleasure of sitting down, virtually, with Anson & Co for this episode. Some of you may know him from this YouTube channel where Anson offers gear reviews for Sigma and Lumix oriented content, but like with anyone I have on the podcast I want to know their story first and foremost. What inspired them at an early age and how that inspiration for stories led them on the journey they currently are. You can check out Anson's YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@Ansonandco as well as his Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/ansonandco If you enjoyed this episode please rate it and let me know how i'm doing!
