I wrote this song 12 years ago. Found it this morning as I got the manic motivation to clean out old email, because that's my biggest problem today…Thank God. I was about to delete the highlighted messages when something caught my eye. You can do this: An audio file from my friend and Slam Circus singer Andy Patalan. The song was originally called “Always” and I wrote it for my second wife. When I played it for her She said, “whatever,” and went back to bed. Some time later, I got home from a month long business deployment and she met me in the kitchen. “Have you had enough coffee?” “I'm gettin' there.” “Well, I need to tell you I'm not happy.” So many emotions hit me that I didn't know how to respond. Or maybe I did. I had seen pictures of her partying in without her wedding ring and I was background processing how to handle it. You know, benefit of the doubt, and all the other bullshit we tell ourselves to avoid a hard truth. A million thoughts churned and quickly coalesced. “Ok, then go someplace you'll be happy.” “Where am I supposed to go?” “That's your problem now.” We had two Doberman Pinschers at the time, siblings. "Whatever you do, don't split them up. Take both or neither.” She split them up, took her favorite and left. Cruelty to animals is worse than cruelty to humans. It's unforgivable. During my month long business trip I had become friends with a waitress. Applebees was the only restaurant open at 21:00 after I closed the record store, and she was there every night when I came in, double shot of Jim Beam waiting for me on my customary table. I knew something was wrong at home and was already self-medicating, general anesthesia for a painful procedure I knew was coming. I called my waitress friend after the wife left… That's where this song came from. I changed the lyrics and decided I needed to sing it myself. My Slam Circus brothers fixed it up and Andy nailed the chorus like he always does. Mike Purcell, Mark McCoy, Andy Patalan. Brothers. So brother, if you're going through hell right now I need you to know it gets better. I'll see you on the other side. If you're still alive, You're halfway there.

This 1200HP RB26 powered R34 GT-R Skyline is always one of our favourites at the World Time Attack Challenge.Want to learn how to EFI tune? Start with some free lessons right here: hpcdmy.co/tunebIt's easy to talk about the likes of this 1200HP RB26 power plant and just assume it's going to be quick, but in reality, there is so much more to putting in a fast lap time than a few high power dyno runs and Mark McCoy of MoTeC is here to help explain where some drivability and pace is recovered using the R34's 4WD system. With the factory Nissan Attesa controller removed a MoTeC dash takes over control of the setup allowing to start dialling in the basics via throttle position and speed through to enabling the team to dial in the system for every corner on the track according to lap distance. The advantages of lap distance vs GPS/GeoFence technology is discussed along with what data is used to help tune the setup along with how it all operates in the first place.
In episode three of our Strengthening the Forensic Workforce season, Just Science sat down with Dr. Mark McCoy, Professor and Administrator of the Digital Evidence and Cyber Security Program at the University of Central Oklahoma Forensic Science Institute, and Josh Brunty, an Associate Professor of Digital Forensics in the School of Forensic & Criminal Justice Sciences at Marshall University, to discuss the field of digital forensics, the importance of research and collaboration, and the development of dynamic academic programs. Digital forensics is still considered one of the newer forensic science disciplines; however, it is a field that is rapidly growing. With devices from smart refrigerators to video game consoles constantly collecting user data, the science behind digital forensics must be ready to pivot with every software update and additional device available on the market. Tune in as Dr. McCoy and Professor Brunty discuss digital forensics versus cyber security, careers and research opportunities for those with strong computer science backgrounds, and an outlook for the field of digital forensics. This episode is funded by the National Institute of Justice's Forensic Technology Center of Excellence.

Hello and welcome to REPLY ALT, the best/only newsletter about music. I’ve been doing a lot of supplementary interviews around here lately about my book SELLOUT since it has consumed my damn life over the last two months. As such, I’ve run interviews about the major-label experiences of The Bronx, Less Than Jake, Anti-Flag, Texas Is the Reason, Thrice, and Murder by Death. But today I figured I’d get back to some good old fashioned non-SELLOUT content by interviewing my elusive friend Chris Norris who, now that I’m thinking about it, designed one of the SELLOUT shirts I have for sale. Dammit. OK so I guess it’s not completely unrelated to SELLOUT. (You may also recognize Chris’ work from the book I released with Laura Jane Grace in 2016. He designed that book and some of you have its artwork tattooed on you forever.)Chris has a book of his own out now called HUNCHBACK ‘88. Actually, the book came out a few years ago (and I interviewed him about it then), but he’s just released a brand spankin’ new expanded edition. It’s a horror story which doesn’t really have a resolution. Bodies come apart and teens get disemboweled in poetic fashion. Call it a mystery, or a puzzle that doesn’t need to be solved. The expanded HUNCHBACK has a ton of original grotesque artwork from Chris as well as guest contributions from artists like Mark McCoy, Chris Farren, John Jr., and others. It’s like a tiny brick of compressed macabre art that I cannot recommend enough. The original HUNCHBACK was sort of a daunting undertaking that read like one unbroken train of deranged thought, but this new version is a bit more manageable. I personally keep my copy next to my nightstand and flip it open to a random page before bed. Then I have nightmares about being sliced in half on the beach all night.Anyway, please enjoy this interview with Chris where we discuss among other things: Being introduced to art through Marvel comics, doing the bare minimum, being notoriously and deliberately difficult to work with, and growing up in America’s two most undesirable locations: Florida and Salem, Massachusetts. Enjoy! Listen above or anywhere you listen to podcasts: Spotify, Apple, blah blah blah. And pick up the new HUNCHBACK ‘88! Give it to your goth crush this holiday season. (Note: If your goth crush is me, I already have a copy, sorryyyyy!) And to see who’s really paying attention, I am gonna mark down the Steak Mtn. SELLOUT shirt in black by 20% in my store in honor of this interview. There's going to be a "Youth Attack" when a couple of dudes in their mid 30's get together very far from Tony Victory's house to kibitz with the awesome Mark McCoy about some of the lowlights from his time in seminal bands like Charles Bronson and Das Oath. Scary European squats, coping with onstage injuries, playing with bandmates you've never met, being influenced by MAD Magazine, and performing in shorts are just a few of the pathways we'll go down. Bundles of buttflaps on this week's WORST GIG EVER!
