This week we talk our favorite splits, which are single records shared by two or more bands. It's sort of like when you can't afford to live like a human being in this country anymore and you have to share one space between many people because the powers that be just want to swallow everything for themselves and watch everyone else rot in the fucking streets. On this week's Right Profile:Secret WorldThe Sissy BoysSome of our favorite splits:Pg. 99 and Majority RuleCoalesce and The Get Up KidsPelican and Playing EnemyHot Water Music and LeatherfaceGo It Alone and Blue MondayThe Nerve Agents and Kill Your IdolsShai Hulud and Another VictimRancid and NOFXGoldfinger and Reel Big FishThe Ataris and Useless I.D.88 Fingers Louie and Kid Dynamite Check Us Out:PatreonSixth and Center PublishingMusical Attribution:Licensed through NEOSounds.“5 O'Clock Shadow,” “America On the Move,” “Baby You Miss Me,” “Big Fat Gypsy,” “Bubble Up,” “C'est Chaud,” “East River Blues,” “The Gold Rush,” “Gypsy Fiddle Jazz,” “Here Comes That Jazz,” “I Wish I Could Charleston,” “I Told You,” “It Feels Like Love To Me,” “Little Tramp,” “Mornington Crescent,” “No Takeaways.”
Welcome to the third and final part of the Episode 1000 anniversary episode, recorded at live events held at four locations throughout the greater Chicagoland area. My original idea was to combine all the interviews and performances into one single release. As fate would have it… it's just too much content for one single episode, so I decided to break it up and make it more digestible. For this episode, recorded at Skeleton Key Brewery in Woodridge, Siren Records in McHenry, and Liar's Club in Chicago, and the Q101 Lounge, you'll hear (and see): An interview with DEHD on the sweet Q101 radio mics. One of my favorite bands, AM TAXI, performing and chatting from Skeleton Key. Siren Records owner Bill Lindquist. Long time pop-punk favorites Showoff. And a fantastic peformance and chat with the synthy goth pop duo clubdrugs. In between segments, you'll also get to enjoy messages from former podcast guests, sharing their Episode 1000 greetings. This time around, that includes Patrick Brower of Challengers Comics + Conversation, Stubhy from Lucky Boys Confusion, Bullet to the Heart, Denis Buckley of 88 Fingers Louie, and You Died. ## CCC is sponsored by Easy Automation. Welcome to episode 49 of the Pod Punk Podcast where this time I am joined by the founding member of 88 Fingers Louie and Rise Against, it's Joe Principe! Joe joins me to chat about both Rise Against and 88 Fingers Louie, Rise Against's new Album Nowhere Generation, being back out on tour, his gateway into punk rock, experiences on tour, his early bands and loads more. This episode is another huge one for me personally as Rise Against are one of the biggest influences on me as a person and musically so this was a massive honour! Be sure to get tickets to see them on tour all over the UK this November!
On today's episode, I talk to musician Tim McIlrath of Rise Against. Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Tim grew up about an hour outside Chicago in the suburbs where he started playing in punk bands. In 1999, Joe Principe and Dan Wieklinski formed Rise Against out of the break-up of their former band 88 Fingers Louie, and invited Tim to join. Though the early days were tumultuous, they persevered and released the Transistor Revolt EP a year later. And since those early days, the band has risen to international acclaim releasing albums on Fat Wreck Chords, Geffen, DGC/Interscope and their most current album, the Nowhere Generation II EP was just released on Loma Vista in June! This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, follow me on Twitter.
For this car-based episode, I'm joined by music curator Denis Buckley (of 88 Fingers Louie fame) and Dante's owner Tim Murphy.. Denis is going to be “DJ-ing” at Dante's (1938 W. Chicago Ave) this Thursday night (3/24/22). We talk about a lot of music, as well as some exciting changes coming to Dante's Chicago Avenue location.

I got to interview Dan Precision of 88 Fingers Louie. This ruled. Dan is one of the nicest dudes in Punk Rock. He formed 88 Fingers and Rise Against and I always thought he stayed at my house in Reno in 98 but it was his bandmates. DAMNIT! What an awesome conversation. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/andy-harrison/support

Once again we're over the Atlantic this week visiting southern Illinois to chat with one of pop-punk's perennial peeps, Mr Dan Vapid. Dan Vapid and The Cheats have a new record out which we hear about the writing process of as well as two key tracks. We look back on Dan's time in The Riverdales and Screeching Weasel as well as discussing the best love songs ever written, Chicago musical greats and the time Dan let off a Tommy trumper in the Amersham Arms. There's too much Metallica chat too (Tom's fault) Tom's got covid, Niallism turns green, we see what's popping off North of the border and a whole heap of other shiz. Extra songs for you this week are by Descendents, Wood, Paper Rifles, Wonk Unit, 88 Fingers Louie and Norsk Rakk.

Joe Principe, founding member of Rise Against, Dead Ending and 88 Fingers Louie sits down with host Dan O'Mahony to discuss the Chicago musical underground and his long and storied path through it.
Shades Apart has been missed. The east coast band (“Valentine,” “Tainted Love,” etc.) went dormant for close to two decades, before reemerging last week with a superior new album (“Eternal Echo”). So… where have they been? Why a new album? What’s next? Let’s get those answers tonight. Bonus: I'm joined tonight by guest interviewer Denis Buckley (88 Fingers Louie)! The Bollweevils are Daryl, Ken, Pete Mumford and Pete Mittler. They are also the kings of Chicago punk. Those are fighting words, I know. Grab an Old Style and we’ll talk about it for a minute. What other Chicago area punk band are part of a secret organization called “The Legion Of Shame”? Huh? I didn’t think so. Dr. Frosty, Captain Fitna, The Amazing Mumford and The Red Hulk have a mission, and that mission is to bring discomfort to the entire world! What? 88 Fingers Louie? Pssshhhh. They’re not Superheros or even Supervillains. So you see, best punk band in the Chicago area, that’s The Bollweevils. Still not sure? Listen to them talk about stuff in this episode, stuff like ruining toilets, UFO’s, getting kicked out of various venues, drinking tequila and more. Listen to the four Bollweevils songs in this episode. Listen to Daryl and his unhealthy knowledge of comic book trivia. Above all, beware The Legion Of Shame, er, The Bollweevils. They’re coming for you next. Also! A few words about the finest buttonmakers in all of punkdom, Mouse And Monkey Button Co. and an organization in the Chicago area that does some great work with the youth of the area - Project Syncere.
The doctor is in! This episode The Bollweevil's Dr. Daryl Wilson stops by to chat with massive fan Damian. Though Denis Buckley didn't join a band until he was 21 years old, he quickly made up for lost time when that first band went on to become a legendary Chicago punk outfit that would still be around more than a quarter century later. After trying out for a lead singer spot, Buckley became the final piece in 88 Fingers Louie. Well, he technically became the final piece in "Platypus Rex" before the band wisely changed its name to 88 Fingers Louie a few weeks later. Recently, Buckley told My First Band host Tyler Maas about his school-age choir prowess, the chance circumstances that led to him joining 88 Fingers Louie, the rapid rise from brand-new group to getting signed to Fat Wreck Chords, unforgettable early shows with NOFX and Rancid, and his modern day musical outlook during the uncertain era of COVID-19. Over the course of the hour-long discussion, Buckley also talked about his stints in other bands like The Story So Far — well before the other band by the same name existed — and Explode And Make Up. Buckley also opened up about the time he got into a fight with an audience member at a show in Milwaukee, which Maas attended/witnessed, and the cartoon-inspired origin 88 Fingers Louie's band name. My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering and Live From the Rock Room. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify and wherever else you get podcasts. Music used in this show comes courtesy of Devils Teeth ("The Junction Street Eight Tigers") and 88 Fingers Louie ("Our Tired Vices").

Forming in the suburbs of Atlanta while they were still in high school, Whippersnapper was originally called Corpus Spin. The band's five members, guitarists Mike and Jason, drummer Pat, vocalist Andy, and bassist Andy B., decided to adopt the current name fairly soon after the band's founding. Their first recording was a split 7" with Ronin -- soon they were hitting the ground running and touring with punk giants like Green Day, 88 Fingers Louie, and blink-182. Lobster Records issued their first two albums, America's Favorite Pastime (which was released in 1998 when the bandmembers were all 19) and 1999's The Long Walk. The first album featured pretty standard East Bay-influenced hardcore played with youthful energy -- but by the time The Long Walk was issued, the band had moved to L.A. and soaked up enough new influences to produce a more adventurous album that played with rhythm and lyrics, resulting in a more creative product. Appearances Wear Thin, Whippersnapper's first for Fueled by Ramen, appeared three years later. It's the return of Denis and Dan, as they prepared to play at this year's T1 Fest. 88 Fingers Louie is a favorite band of Car Con Carne and these two guys are some of Car Con Carne's favorite humans. This episode is sponsored by C&H Financial Services.

It's spooky season on Car Con Carne, and this episode finds the podcast at 13th Floor Haunted House in Melrose Park. Joining me for the experience is the Mizzerables (Joe and Korey), whose most recent album, "whatever... this sucks," is a hooky, guitar-driven collection of melodic punk. Discussed this week: The Mizzerables don't know techno. They're a pop punk band. The disorienting aspects of some of 13th Floor's rooms. This was the first haunted house Joe went to in literal decades. "(Haunted house actors) can't touch you anymore." "Anymore??" Star Trek: The Next Generation lost its footing when Worf's kid joined the show. The men of the Mizzerables are looking sharp in sweater vests with nothing underneath. What's up with the Mizzerables wanting to change their name a while back? Dan Precision (88 Fingers Louie) has a too-hard-to-pronounce surname. The political nature of some of the Mizzerables' music. Suburbs: Pro or con? Did the Mizzerables honestly want to do the podcast? Car Con Carne is in the running for "Best Music Podcast" in the Chicago Reader's "Best of Chicago 2019" poll!

Oh, man... what a fun episode! I met up with Dan and Nat from 88 Fingers Louie in Lockport, Illinois to join me in walking through Hellsgate Haunted House. You can listen to hear what we thought about it, and hear what Hellsgate creator John Laflamboy has to say about its history and vision. Discussed this week: 88 Fingers Louie Denis Buckley, a frequent CCC guest, may not have had the intestinal fortitude to take on Hellsgate. The mystery ghoul who followed us through our entire journey through Hellsgate. How John conceptualized the haunted house: Legos! Some of the highlights of walking through Hellsgate. Dan kept his cool throughout the haunt. Dan's a grower, not a shower. There are a lot of people employed by Hellsgate. Seriously big bands have used the Hellsgate property for videos. Hellsgate is ever-changing. The "swamp water" effect... so cool. I have the crap scared out of me around the 15:20 mark. It was amazing. What's next for 88 Fingers Louie (T1 Fest!).

It's the anniversary episode! For #250, I'm joined by three returning all-time favorites, who all happen to be Chicago punk rock legends: Josh Caterer (Smoking Popes), Daryl Wilson (Bollweevils) and Denis Buckley (88 Fingers Louie). We met up at a taco place in Naperville (the swingers' capital of the Midwest). I basically just sat back and listened as they discussed: Ronnie James Dio. They open up the show improvising "Rainbow in the Dark." I CRY OUT FOR MAGIC! Daryl is the new Josh. It's a theme song theme. Years (YEARS) of acrimony between the Bollweevils and Smoking Popes. The tour the Popes and Bollweevils did that led to the acrimony. There were Nazis and drive-bys. Josh has a great laugh. The devil's lettuce has got the best of Denis. 88 and Bollweevils just played 350 Fest. Next up: The Popes and 88 will be at T1 Fest together in November. Denis is known as a "bear" in the picnic basket community. "88 will get you home every time, baby." People kept texting Josh during the recording. We learned after the fact it was because there was no audio on the live video feed (it's been fixed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5ynQqCnSpg Daryl and Josh coordinated outfits for the recording. We made plans for Denis's death, going as far as to plot out who'll deliver the eulogy. See the Bollweevils at Liarpalooza. Car Con Carne needs to do another haunted house episode. Josh was erroneously crowned most-frequent guest of Car Con Carne. A post-show review of the logs shows Tyler Wildey (Epic Deli) to be in the lead. Car Con Carne is presented by The Autobarn Mazda of Evanston.

Before she plays Riot Fest 2019 in Chicago, Sincere Engineer (Deanna Belos) joins me for tacos outside Tacos Garcia on W. Armitage. Discussed this week: Playing Riot Fest this year. Any nerves involved? NEVER. READ. THE. COMMENTS. The curse of the corn dogs. Are they to Sincere Engineer what mac & cheese is to Barenaked Ladies? Sincere Engineer's best cheerleader? Josh Caterer of Smoking Popes. If you're gonna get a Skee-Ball machine, you have to also get a prize redemption center. Deanna's a very "normal" person. Car Con Carne will never go to Chuck E. Cheese. Where does Deanna stand on profanity? Denis Buckley of 88 Fingers Louie likes to watch. I may have had cilantro on my lip. I'm broadcasting from Riot Fest from 9/13-9/15. Deanna needs to visit me in the media area. Deanna first heard me when I interviewed the Lawrence Arms on the Zone. No one listened to the Zone! Car Con Carne is presented by the Autobarn Mazda of Evanston

In this episode I had the pleasure of talking to Dan. This guy is easily the nicest guy in punk rock. Enjoy stories about 88 Fingers, Rise Against and Reno.

88 Fingers Louie is an American band from Chicago which was formed in 1993. They played a style of hardcore punk, melodic hardcore, and punk rock. After disbanding in 1999, guitarist Dan Wleklinski and bassist Joe Principe formed the well-known punk rock band Rise Against. The band reunited in 2009 and has continued playing shows in Chicago, Canada, Belgium, Las Vegas, and Asbury Park. The band held a 20th-anniversary show in 2013. The name comes from a Flintstones gangster who sells dodgy pianos. Fun fact, Denis is a fan of the podcast. Well, I mean he said he liked a few episodes so I’m going to take that as he has the logo tattooed on his chest now. I asked him if he’d like to talk about the days of 88 and how cool Chicago is and he said The Ballet Where did the video for "I’ve Won" go? How he found this podcast The Rod Stewart curse The Josh Humble Fireside Story Michael Gaughan The "I’ve Won" video story Later 88 songs making their way onto the first Rise Against Album And a ton more This week's episode is sponsored by Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company, bringing the punk rock ruckus to liquid form! Denis Buckley and Dan "Mr. Precision" Wleklinski of long-running Chicago punk legends 88 Fingers Louie join me for a trip to "Krampus: A Haunted Christmas," a Christmas-themed haunted house on the site of the 13th Floor haunted house in Melrose Park. It was incredibly well done, and we wish it was year-round. Discussed in this week's show: Mr. Precision rigged up the CX-9 like a recording studio. The tactical decision to go with Chipotle instead of Bakers Square. The awesomeness of the Krampus haunted house. We think the haunted house could be year-round, and we imagine what a St. Patrick's theme could look like. Why did all the ladies of the haunted house fall in love with Mr. Precision? Was it his hair? His hammer? Laugh tracks are added in post. With this episode, Denis makes his fourth appearance on Car Con Carne... but he's not in first place. Sandwich idea: "Thank you for being a vegetarian special." The band's getting ready to head to Costa Rica, something that never happened in the band's first run. Mr. Precision's remixes of 88's old albums: Was he hearing stuff the fans weren't hearing? "Knowing as much as I know.... I've always wanted to get my hands on it." If you like Schlong, you're gonna love 88 Fingers Louie. THE FIRST CAR CON CARNE "REMOTE" IS COMING! Lots of guests planned for 12/22! 88's upcoming gig in the lilac village of Lombard on 12/21, opening for the mighty Pegboy. Denis's audition process to join 88 Fingers Louie: Mr. Precision doesn't remember much. Park Ridge landmarks: The Sandlot wasn't always the Sandlot. Remembering the Fireside Bowl. The mature 88 Fingers is the best 88 Fingers. Mentioned in this week's show: Traci from Hot Lips Messiah Josh Caterer from Smoking Popes Tyler Wildey of Epic Deli Schlong, the band Turnspit Daryl Wilson from the Bollweevils Take the Reins Julia Shell Car Con Carne is presented by the Autobarn Mazda of Evanston

In this episode I interview Denis Buckley. The lead singer of a Punk Rock band called 88 Fingers Louie and an old grade school classmate and friend of mine. We talk about the roots of his interest in music and how he became the lead singer of a punk rock band even though there were expectations and plans for him to become a fireman. We also talk about how he’s changed and grown over the years. And what’s allowed him to manage his anger and become a better communicator. This week, Car Con Carne (sponsored by Boost Mobile) makes a trip out to Tinley Park to visit the exceptional 350 Brewing Company (7144 183rd St, Tinley Park, IL 60477). Owner Todd Randall and Director of Marketing Justin Maynard jump in the car (with room to spare to talk about: The superior Wi-fi we're using in the car. It's a Chicago punk rock summit as I'm joined by returning guests Daryl Wilson (The Bollweevils) and Denis Buckley (88 Fingers Louie) at Dante's Pizza. Here's what we talk about this week: Is Denis now tied for most-frequently appearing guest on the show? "I have no agenda." Why in the hell did I say Blaze Pizza? It's DANTE'S. And Dante's is sooo much better. I got the lion's share of grease. That's what you get for grabbing from the bottom of the bag. Daryl thinks the grease will be absorbed subcutaneously. He's a doctor. Purell hand sanitizer is the only thing I had on hand to solve the grease problem. Dante's slice of the day scared us. A car almost hit us right at the onset of recording. Jesus Jones gets more "airtime" than they have in 27 years. Full confession: Daryl and I went back for "seconds" the last time we recorded together. The 90s punk scene that birthed The Bollweevils and 88 Fingers Louie (Okay, technically Bollweevils started in '89). The return of Apocalypse Hoboken. I need to work on the liner notes for their album release. "Punk rock is kind of self-destructive in a way... we're all damaged." Denis could have been a fireman, if not for punk rock. "To be clear, I'm going to be hosing off my hands." Not only does the podcast promise to get sexier as it progresses, but Daryl and Denis arrived on **** *** night! "Let the dirt wash over you." Denis and Daryl's board games of choice. We've all been playing Monopoly wrong. Denis and Daryl's first concerts: "Can I include an opera?" "No." Kids going to concerts now vs. kids going in the 80s. Cheap Trick's setlist problem. Daryl to Denis: "You don't pick fights with people you can beat." Fugazi broke up a fight between Daryl and Denis. There's nothing more punk rock than a "Frasier" reference. Favorite movies are discussed: Blues Brothers, Blazing Saddles, Big Trouble in Little China, Truth or Dare. Wait... Truth or Dare? Why I am "dead" to Daryl, and what made Denis call me a "Car Con Asshole." A weird circus bike rode past the Boost Mobile Mazda 3. Damn hipsters. "She Caught the Katy" is one of the best songs in Blues Brothers. Favorite horror movies are discussed. "Alien" makes it to the top of the list. RIP the Golf Mill Theater

Denis Buckley, frontman of 88 Fingers Louie, joins me for tacos at El Cid II (2645 Kedzie). This week's episode is sponsored by the good people at BOOST MOBILE. Discussed this week: My first experience with El Cid, during a particularly reckless period. Denis's celebrated return to El Cid The long-awaited new 88 Fingers Louie album, "Thank You for Being a Friend." The band's recent European tour ("in some ways it felt like a week had passed since the last time"). My experience at Harley-Davidson's Riding Academy (my left/clutch hand is still numb... should I be concerned?). The amazing (well-deserved) round of reviews the band's received for the new album. Why I'm not a "malaka."

Damian travels to Chicago to hang out with Denis Buckley and Dan Precision from 88 Fingers Louie. The three of them drink several beers and chat about how they discovered the punk rock world of Chicago, growing up and calming down, the ending and return of 88 Fingers Louie, and oh so much more in this first of two episodes with Denis and Dan!
For this episode, James is joined by 88 Fingers Louie's lead singer Denis Buckley. They meet up at Taqueria El Tapatio on the west side of Chicago, which leads to discussions like: "There is grease just rolling down my hand," and "I feel kinda disgusting now." (For the record, the food was tasty.) They talk about 88FL's history (breaking up, drinking, touring) how it felt to watch former member Joe Principe hit massive heights with Rise Against, and the simple pleasures of Mexican food. And James may have uttered the all-time greatest "cranky old man" lines in CCC history: "One of my great problems with concerts is other people are there."
88 Fingers Louie formed in spring 1993, with the intention of playing sloppy, fun punk music for themselves. And they succeeded..... eexcept for their version of Help !, which is quite good. Lots of pace and power, straight through the middle. somehow, I feel John would have appreciated their style for this song.
